LESS Alcohol ~ JUNE 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

Hi all, I'd love to join in! I'm recently back to MPF and am trying to focus on not only losing some weight, but also health goals. Alcohol is a huge pain point for me, and I simply don't moderate well, especially with wine.
My goal for now is to be AF until next week when my husband returns from his Army duty. We've already planned on having some beers when he returns. He doesn't moderate either, and we enable each other terribly with it. (Thankfully, we also enable healthy habits.)
It's nice to "talk" with others who have similar struggles...9 -
3 AF days in a row! Woot!5

Checking in - no A until the weekend. I am not really thinking about it and find that it helps to have early morning commitments every day.
@Womona no wine in the house means no wine days here too. Hope your back issue heals quickly, that’s no fun.
Currently, I usually buy two small (half) bottles a week. Based on this alone, I am doing way LA each week and feel amazing. I’m reaping wonderful benefits with this new habit. Thanks for listening!

Went out to dinner with DS1, tried a delicious new restaurant, and got to spend good time with him before he goes to to Officer Candidate school for 8 weeks. Then he moves into his own apartment right afterwards! I had a very small Prosecco drink (4 oz) and a few sips of Sambuca when I got home. Hey at least there is still no wine in the house, so I’m good for tonight!4

After my one night of binge drinking at the conference a couple weeks ago, life seems properly back to its "new normal" now.
After ten weeks of counting every calorie, I'm now not doing it. I'm going to try using what I've learned and seeing if I can combine that with the necessary discipline to achieve close enough to the desired calorie deficit. I've lost a total of twenty-three pounds over the last ten weeks, so averaging almost two-and-a-half pounds a week. I'm OK dropping down to a target of losing one pound a week looking ahead.
I've got about three weeks left until vacation and I'd like to get another two pounds off, for a total of twenty-five pounds eliminated since starting this journey.
On the body fat goal, I'm really wanting to get down below 20%. Last night, the scale said 20.2%. I'm almost there.
My weights for lifting are going up a bit. The other day, my wife took a video of me leg pressing on the machine. Genetically, my legs are the easiest for me to progress on. Anyhow, I pushed up "the stack"--400 lbs.--ten times. I'm surprised I can still do something like this at the age of fifty five. Anyhow, I was grinning ear-to-ear on the video. I suspect the last time I did this was almost ten years ago.
On cardio intervals, my speed is increasing some. Last night on the high speed of the final interval, I hit nine MPH (6:40 pace) on the treadmill and a heart rate of 162 BPM which is a few beats from the my max.
Needless to say, I ache often and much from the workouts I'm doing.
My long-term plan continues to be to have lost twenty-five pounds from March to July and then the pursue the final ten pounds to lose from July to October to be ready for next year's ski season.
My wife is the best partner in doing all this. Over the last two years, she's lost 120 pounds after a gastric sleeve surgery. She's working out with me every day and getting quite toned herself. I think she'd like to get off a final five to ten pounds over the next number of months too. Her huge concern, even fear, is that she relapse and regain what she's worked so hard to lose. My doing all this, especially now, is a way that I can support her in her even bigger journey than my own.
She's my high school sweetheart. We had spent almost thirty years apart before reconnecting now about seven years ago. This vacation trip in a few weeks will be our fourth wedding anniversary. I'm so glad she was heavier when we reconnected and when we married too. I love her so much and for who she is. She is incredible.7 -
💞 @GaryM_25 thanks for the sweet love story. Best wishes to both of you!3

Quick post before a full day ahead. I have lost almost 10 lbs and many inches since Halloween ‘22 while building muscle strength. I now weigh what I did about about 35 years ago. I’ll keep on plugging away to get to ultimate maintenance with another 5 lbs. loss - might take me a year but that’s okay!
And drinks played a big part in being overweight too. Today I found I can enjoy cooking everything under the sun, mostly clean and within my calorie range (another reason LA is critical to my long term success).
Have a great day all who follow!
AF until weekend…..

Came home, immediately poured my ICE/juice! I noticed that this signals my husband to not offer me a drink, cuz for some reason, I can't say no to an offer....
It was actually a good day all around. I get on the treadmill every morning (M-F) for 30 to 45 minutes. Monday and yesterday, I went out side for lunch for an extra 30 minute walk. I was under my calorie budget and stopped eating by 8pm. Consumed 80+ ounces of water but downside, was up a lot for bathroom breaks.

The Month recap to stay accountable
6/1 A ~ Husband was excited as he had been off pain meds long enough to have a cocktails. He made pomegranate sours. Tasted really strong and really sweet to me since I had not had one in quite a while.
I've got to get it through my thick head....alcohol ruins weight loss....maybe I need to get out my paper and write it 500 times...
6/2 A ~ I got nothing!
6/3 A ~
6/4 A ~ Moody today. Wine all weekend while watching Netflix shows. Bored too... can't wait for vacation! I've really got to focus on getting that "substitute" drink in my hand as soon as I get in the door.
6/5 A ~ He made pomegranate sours again .

I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 18AF days in May.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Sunday June 04 - AF - Job interview in the morning. I really felt like having drinks though, I went so hard in the yard and began the area outside of my fence which technically doesn't belong to me, but I have been planting it for many years. I have Hollyhocks and sunflowers along there, but it was (still mostly is) completely full of giant weeds. Very very hot here.
Monday June 05 - AF - Scheduled to work 12 days straight starting Monday at the Indian restaurant to cover some vacay days. Tonight, Tuesday, is my pedicure so I may have drinks/prosecco. I definitely won't be having my usual drinks on the weekend this coming one because I am working split shifts Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday are my window if I feel like having drinks this week.
Tuesday June 06 - Drinks. I am doing very early mornings on the yard these days, since it is way too hot when I get off of work. Possible drinks tonight.

DH poured us both a shot, usually he asks first, but guessing he could tell from my mood that I wouldn't refuse... I will be on my own tonight, planning to be AF.4 -

Yes! this!!!!! @GaryM_25 younare kicking butt and taking names! You’re an inspiration to us all!5 -
AF tonight because again, no wine in the house. I look forward to when I can choose to turn down even if it’s here. I’ve done it before, but let’s just say I’m way out of practice! Haha! Tomorrow planned drinks for Wine Night at work.
Anyone else getting blanketed by haze and smoke from the wildfires in Canada? Holy cow!3 -
Accountability post, 5/7 AF
The two days that I did have drinks I had too many and then ate too much ice cream. I need to practice moderation. For me it seems like abstaining is easier than limiting but I am going to keep trying.6 -
@Womona ...yeah, it's been several weeks that Pittsburgh has been hazed over. Now that the wildfires have moved east, Thursday night and Friday will put us in a danger zone. Like, "don't breathe the air". Okay, talking heads on TV...can you suggest an alternative ?? My COPD is not happy.
Oddly, there has been no mention here in the news of how the Canadians are faring. They are the ones living in a forest fire, no??
"Tis an ill wind....etc" ...Not wanting to add alcohol to an already stressful situation , am doubly committed to being AF right now. Tonight's Italian sausage stuffed criminis over polenta whispered "Chianti " , and I whispered back "AF beer".6 -
Sausage stuffed mushrooms over polenta!
So, over at this side of Canada the skies are clear at the moment.
I have never heard of fires in Nova Scotia and Quebec before, normally the wildfires are in Alberta and BC. Indeed there are wildfires burning in both, but it hasn't drifted this way (Cranbrook BC).
It sounds like fire fighting teams are coming from elsewhere in the globe to help with those eastern fires.
Sorry for everyone that is experiencing it at the moment, I certainly know what it is like.7 -

Another good day. Treadmill + my outside walk. Low calorie day and was still in range, even though I had some Ruffles potato chips (another weakness). Consumed 64oz of water which resulted in less bathroom trips. Scale was favorable!
It's so weird. There are days when I think I just can't be AF, then when I accomplish the task, it's really not so bad🙂
Kinda like exercise! :wow:

@dawnbgethealthy ~ Did I miss the results of your interview? How did it go?
@womona ~ I hear you. If wine is not in my house, I'm miserable, feel like I've lost control (and have actually gotten in my car to go get some!) So my goal (note: I said goal, not there yet) is to have wine and Ruffles🙂 and learn to live in moderation. Easier said than done but this is life and for the long haul.
@forestdweller1 ~ The whisperer! I love this!!!
I feel for everyone of you experiencing the challenge of the wildfires - both directly and indirectly. We just got out of the "mask" phase but now it's highly recommended again for obvious reasons. Stay safe!

@itladyee Way to go on your AF streak! I think we can all relate to the uncertainty if we can actually achieve some AF days….then all of a sudden we can, and then do it again!
@forestdweller1 oh the whispering, how true that can be!
CA has been affected by wildfires for years and years and there have been times when we couldn’t see the sky for a month or longer…..and not to mention the poor air quality that affects our lungs! It is difficult and I’m sorry to hear what’s happening in the East right now.
Busy week continues…..you know that tired feeling like I just can’t exercise today? I forced myself to take a 4 mile walk yesterday afternoon and then felt so much better for it!
AF until Friday night.
