@trooworld You said "I am a food addict and eat what I want most of the time. This has to stop. I don't know how but it has to." So the first thing is to change your thoughts. You can start saying I USED TO BE a food addict but now I am..............(fill in the blank) Research has shown the brain can't distinguish between what is reality and what is imagined. So you keep telling your brain that and it says, if you say you are. So instead of either/or with processed food, how about slight reduction. Start there. How about substitute one processed snack that you would normally eat and substitute something healthy. I've done the whole buy fruit and throw fruit away thing. I know how that is. So I started buying 7 oranges and would have an orange at night while I watched TV. Otherwise I was snacking on crackers, chips, or popcorn. It became a habit until I came up here to my dd's house. I've switched to having one fruit with my breakfast and then one fruit with my salad. So let us know what day you are ready to do this. One day this week. So you have time to buy the piece of fruit. Hide it in case your hubby eats it. That's what happened to me. So the next time I bought double the fruit and then he didn't eat any and had to throw away. Sigh. So I buy him a little and now have him trained to stay out of mine. You want more go to the store.
You know every little tweak we offer is said with love and support. Because we want you to succeed in your journey. That's great that you got started on figuring out your points with your main meals. Another thing you can add to your journal is coming up with options to reduce ordering out. I have the same problem when I'm at home with dh/ds. I have no good reason other than some days I just don't want to cook. They say let's order X I say okay and I stay fat. So I had decided that when I return I will cook more. I'll still allow myself to order out a couple days a week if I want to but that doesn't mean I have to order from same place that they do. I'm learning which restaurants have healthy options that I think taste good. I don't need to go with the flow anymore. Otherwise they will take me right over the waterfall to my death.

@cbabie Yaaay on walking 6 min on the treadmill. Is that the breakfast burrito recipe I sent you? I keep saying I'm going to make that. I should do that while I'm here with dd so I can fill her freezer a bit. So when you make it again reduce the spices or take out 1/4 of the mixture for you before adding the spices.

@Michieb125 You sound like you have a great attitude. Keep working towards your goal and you will have a great birthday present. I'm learning to just focus on today. Then next day I analyze my meal and see how I could have made little tweaks for next time. Always learning.

@gemwolf110 I noticed your weight loss on the newsfeed. Great job.

So my little exercise free weekend didn't really turn out that way but oh well. Yesterday went to Mall of America and I walked 11000 steps. My watch even registered a 20 min walk in all that. Today we went to one of the state parks and saw some bison and then went on a 30 minute hike. Very nice and peaceful.

Food: Yesterday we always go to the same place and I usually order same thing. Cowboy burger/fries. But I ordered the Black and Bleu salmon salad.

Today was a pizza buffet place and I threw in some green beans for health and still managed to stay under calories by 42 but I'm over my carbs by 1. I call it a win for the day.

Water was not good with all the traveling last two days. Needs work.

@theslightedgeforever you are very encouraging to each of us here and I like what you said, how you want success for ourselves and others. I have a good attitude most days and it is probably because I am seeing my weight and inches change by using MFP. Some days are more challenging if I don’t have good choices always ready to go at home. I agree you don’t have to order food from the same restaurant as others….I just realized this myself! Getting what we want is much better for us. Your state park with bison sound wonderful! I saw so many when we visited Wyoming and Montana two summers ago.

@trooworld great job on your dinner! You did add an excellent source of green vegetable to your plate. I think practicing by doing just that one thing consistently as possible will be a great way to improve where you can. Do you like trying new recipes each week? Tracking does takes time I understand but it is the only way I can see what nutrients I am eating and where I can tweak.

I made a delicious sheet pan dinner on Saturday and had that over the last two nights…..cubed seasoned chicken, peppers, carrots, brussel sprouts, and red onion. I made two large portions with 5 oz chicken each. I am going to try this each week which will guarantee I get my tasty vegetables and eat low calorie at night. The root vegetables made it very filling but I would have couscous or brown rice if my husband joined me. I wish I had done the complex carb with the meal because I reached for popcorn, wine, and Annie’s bunny grahams afterwards with a movie, yikes!

It confess it was too much, too late at night! Paid the price with indigestion which hasn’t happened in years. Gotta move on to today! I need to start my day and plan my meals out. I do like Fage yogurt and blueberries too. Or, eggs, or oatmeal. These are pretty much my breakfast staples. Occasionally I will have avocado toast. The protein keeps me full until mid-morning snack -Apple slices, lite Swiss cheese, hummus or cubed melon. Speaking of fruit, I have a hold of cantaloupe I need to cube today.

May you find good solutions to help you stay on track today!

Afternoon all, I didn't do great yesterday, Sundays are hard for me. LOL. With trying to get kids ready for church, church, a book club and then have to fix dinner...UGH..I don't ever feel as if I get a rest and Sundays have always. been my rest day.

@theslightedgeforever great attitude and plans. Good job on the walking..all I can see in my brain in Sonic and his shoes on fire from his speed walks..LOL

@trooworld you know what to do, you want to do what you know, but something is stopping you. One thing I have realized is I really did't want to give up my "comfort zone". I wanted to lose the weight and if I want an Oreo, I ate it and didn't track it...you see we all know tracking tells us everything..in our spending habits, sleep cycles, movement all of it. If we don't track...trust me our bodies will tell us what we didn't or did do when we get older. So I think you did great getting the greens in..So one tweak at a time and just do it until it is a mindless task...then you can do a different tweak. I have added a banana to my diet no matter what..it's hard sometimes but my mindset tells me I have to or my legs will ache..LOL. I am proud of you!

@Michieb125 You are one positive person...I like your mindset. Yes I hate indigestion..but I can't tell if it's my life, meds, or food. So I just keep trying. Meal planning helps, but it's not always a fix for me LOL

@trooworld Ok how about something like I am becoming someone who is not addicted to food? How else could you phrase it? Sometimes we all feel that why bother thing. So WHY are you wanting to lose weight? There has to be a good reason that you are persistent in making this work. Keep those reasons visible to you when food demons make their appearance. Yes I was just as satisfied and I ate half of it and I'm eating the other half when I get back from the gym. I just need to heat up the chicken to go on top since I already ate all the salmon from it. Great choice on adding the asparagus. Yaaay on pretracking breakfast.

@Michieb125 Your sheet pan recipe sounds delicious. I do one with marinated sliced chicken strips, green, red, yellow peppers and onions. So easy and so good. Depending on my carbs for the day I either make a wrap out of it or just throw it over a salad. Seeing weight and inches change is so motivating.

@cbabie In a perfect world what would be a fix for you? So you would be at an ideal weight for you. You would have muscle tone and your bones strong. Your blood test results would be at normal levels. What would you have to do?

I'm currently eating the rest of my salad from Saturday. I added some chicken on it for some protein. Just got home from the gym and I'm tired. I added a second set to my weight routine today. I walked 37 minutes this morning. Walked to a coffee shop and sat and read my Kindle for 45 min then walked back home.

Food: I am under by 3 carbs Over by 75 calories. Another win for me.
    Water: 68 oz

Morning all, I love the comments today. We all have our own struggles and wins. Let's not forget those. If you're breathing it's a win. I started to track yesterday, but then life happened here. LOL. I just had my protein shake with a "banana" and blueberries in it. I heard something on TV about break fast. In the "old days" LOL you ate what you had left over from dinner the next day for breakfast. I think what I heard and it stuck with me is what I start my day with I end with...meaning carbs/sugar? I love cereal..but what happened to the protein. So tweaking what I can.

@trooworld I think you did great yesterday..you tracked..period. today you will "track" a little more. I truly believe that our minds believes what we tell it...Let's say someone kept telling people they were a vet, but they were not...by the end of their life, I believe they believe they were a vet..your brain doesn't know what is truth or lies...it just knows if you keep repeating it..it is.. Maybe you could eat left overs for breakfast?

@theslightedgeforever good for you on the exercise...how fun walking to the coffee shop..remember when we just wanted dad to try and "ride" up to the donut shop? LOL. I think you are tweaking your habits little shifts that make big waves...

@trooworld I was thinking about you collecting recipes. Then I thought of the quote that Dr Phil always used to say. "You will not maintain any behavior that is not providing you with some kind of payoff." So I was wondering what is the payoff that you are getting by adding additional recipes to this collection. I was thinking of the extra time it would take looking for new recipes each week. Then I always find it takes longer for me to cook a new recipe than one I've done many times. Then add in the time it would take to figure out the proper number of "bites". Those minutes could add up and be some exercise minutes for you. I know you struggle with finding time to exercise during the work week. "I am overcoming my food addiction" sounds good.

@cbabie With cereal, I count the milk as my protein. I think if we all keep tweaking we will find out what works for us and something we can do consistently.

    Today's report:
    Exercise: 63 min cardio/weights
Food: over 7 carbs Under 24 calories
    Water: 34 oz.

    Keep up the good work!

Morning all, I am not sure what I did yesterday, but watch a 10 month old..LOL. Today plans are to clean floors again, bed sheets, etc. You know the fun stuff. It's hotter than blue blazes here and humid..Monsoons are coming. So activity will have to be inside.. LOL

@melissajean9677 Welcome to this little corner on MFP. Glad you stopped by. Yes please stop and be a part of this group, would love to have you. I too was in WW when they had the boards. I have several friends I found there when the boards were not the connection thing. We used to send Christmas cards, birthday cards and some I still do. We had fun and that's what we want our health journey to be, not torture. LOL

@trooworld So glad you got your exercise in...you didn't want to but you did. Sorry your knee is bothering you...that's no fun. You just carried your job routine into your recipe routine. LOL organize and file. Maybe you should check out a "book" on a rotation basis..LOL. I love your thought process. My family always wants "different recipes". I grew up you ate the same thing all the time and I guess I still do that, but I am trying to change!! :) That way as you said it's not boring. Food should be exciting if we are going to eat it right?

@theslightedgeforever looks like you had a good day yesterday!! Congrats. I made goulash last night and my DH got a bowl that was as big as a mixing bowl and ate (2 x). LOL. yet he is as thin as a rail. but healthy? that's yet to be seen. So glad you are doing weights...I need to get back to that...no excuse since I can do it inside where it's cool. LOL

Hello all - I missed posting yesterday as I did get to an early barre class at my local gym. I was able to keep up and complete the 40-minute workout while having fun. I really like the fact this small class is full of “everyday” gals like me between the ages of 35-70. Meaning, it’s not a barre “studio” with expert participants per se where I probably would feel intimidated. I am a secret lover of all the ballet positions along with hand weights, balls and stretching exercises. It’s low impact, and I’m thinking great for toning. We shall find out. Going back tomorrow:).

Food choices going fairly well. When my DH is out of town, I eat much leaner and the kitchen stays clean! This weeks goal is to stay under my new Macro goals I set and increase lean protein (which has been a challenge) to see how the scale responds. I have read it’s good to adjust now and then. Had grandkids over yesterday to swim in their little above ground pool and then we had popsicles. I adore summer days like this.

I remember the old WW boards, so fun. I think they started to dwindle when social media really took off. I did find some of my WW friends on facebook eventually.

@trooworld excellent on the exercise at lunch, never easy but you pushed through! When I worked full days, I recall I used to gain so much confidence when I put those tennis shoes on for a mile at a time. WTG!

@melissajean9677 I’m newer here too, welcome!

@theslightedgeforever you are doing great with your calorie and exercise plans! I think you follow/manage macros too if I’m not mistaken.

@cbabie I did the bathroom floors yesterday and our large glass shower door/enclosure. Can’t imagine working in humidity lol. I think you get extra calorie burn points 😊

    @melissajean9677 Welcome to the group!

@trooworld Yaaay on tracking more. You would get variety just by cooking 365 of those recipes. lol Yaaay on doing some exercise even when you didn't feel like it.

@cbabie Tell your family to find the recipes and put the ingredients on a shopping list and you'll take care of the rest. Goulash sounds good. How can you find 5 minutes to do some weights or bands? With a baby, you have to find little minutes here and there.

Exercise: 42 min at gym. cardio/stretching Today it rained so no walk. I'll make it up on Sunday.
Food: Over 2 carbs Over 33 calories
    Water: 51 oz

    Lost 0.8 lbs

Morning all, I did okay until 10:30 last night. 2 mini frosted cookies called my name and YESSSss it gave me heartburn...that was my payback. LOL. So today...I have to put my ear buds in and ignore calls. LOL

@theslightedgeforever good job on the gym and weight loss. I wish we would get rain and cool it down here. Yea good luck on them looking for recipes. LOL DH will be gone for 2 weeks, so we will see how the meals go around here.

@trooworld good luck with the electrician. Yea on tracking..yes it's so hot here too, I WOULD NOT WALK either..one step outside and the sweat starts. LOL (that's when you take a selfie and post as your afterwork out profile. LOL)

@Michieb125 Oh so happy you finished the class and felt good about it. So glad you like it enough to go back. The day with the grandkids sounds fun and relaxing! Enjoy while you can, you know they stinking grow up so fast.

@trooworld Seems to be hot everywhere in the world. Yaaay on tracking everything. Try tomorrow for the walk.

@cbabie With dh gone I'd be saying every man for himself. When it's hot, you can go to a mall and walk. ;)

Food: 9 carbs under; 98 calories under
    Exercise: Rest Day

@trooworld I do believe tracking is a good key to success - otherwise we can’t review what we are putting in our bodies for fuel or pure enjoyment. Really good job, and no I can’t walk in the heat either lol.

@theslightedgeforever I like how you track/post your exercise, water and carbs/calories. I am going to adopt this technique for my own visuals. You are rocking your plan and seeing results, way to go!

@cbabie mini frosted cookies!?! One of my favorites of course. I can have those only now and then or else….hope you will be able to cook much less while DH is away. And definitely the little grandchildren grow too fast, just like my own kiddos did! I have taken care of them a couple of times a weeks since they were born so they are my precious angels.

Food tracking has been good this week and I have stayed within my calorie count on most days. Concentrating on more lean protein and less high glycemic carbs to shake things up. Yesterday, I was very active all day. Up early as usual, then completed another 45-min barre class.

Afterwards, my DH and I went on a 40 minute walk in the neighborhood and then we had the grand littles over again at 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. We/they played in the Intex pool for two hours then I made them snacks for what seemed like two more hours lol……those little people sure can eat! I try to have good lunch choices for them on hand (and me) - strawberries, watermelon, veggie straws, organic lunch meat on whole wheat bread, good quality chicken nuggets. Oh and fruit popsicles!

Going to our friends house for dinner tonight with another couple and unsure of what’s on the menu. They usually cook with a lot of sauces which I don’t. That’s a bit hard for me because I can’t know the calorie expenditure ahead of time but I’ll eat my eggs this am and regular go to’s until then and enjoy their company and make the best of it.

Stay cool and happy Friday, everyone!

Morning all, I ate a bowl of cereal for dinner last night...filled me up and went to bed not long after...didn't sleep much, up and down up and down. Still no exercise.

@theslightedgeforever you are doing great...and thank you no...don't like malls and 10 month and a very social 4 year old..would give me anxiety..LOL

@Michieb125 sounds like you are in your groove with your food. Great job..yeah my 4 year old loves all those things, she likes the straws better than the ones that looks like wavy chips....however, she also likes "cheese balls". UGH..they are nasty. But she does LOVE regular hard cheese sliced and put on a plate..

@Michieb125 Sounds like you are on plan this week, too. How was your dinner with friends? I usually search for a similar food served with homemade added and then choose the entry that's not the highest or lowest of calories but in the middle. I know it's 100% but it gives me a range.
Then next day back on my regular plan.

@cbabie Put the baby in the stroller and let the 4 year push while you walk beside her. So what is your plan to get in some exercise?

    Food: 3 carbs over/ 58 calories under
    Exercise: 35 min walk, 60 min cardio/weights
    Water: 100 oz

Morning all, more cereal....and no sugar cookies. LOL. still not exercising.

@theslightedgeforever I have decided that the 45 min I get away from the baby is when I get to do nothing and for right now I am accepting that as my life and a bonus that I get the 45 min. That's really why I am not getting any exercise. I decided it meant more to me than movement. I know it's not a good thing, but I will start making tweaks when I feel differently. I have faced the truth...and now I can handle the truth. :)

@trooworld LOL about the electrician, sometimes men, you just want to put duct tape on their mouth. LOL. Funny the little things that make us uncomfortable...Great job on the continued tracking. I have been getting my breakfast tracked, but fizzle out after that..

Yesterday was the dinner party at a good friends house. Her husband loves to cook and they are very hospitable. I decided to try a little of everything because he did a French influence with all the unique culinary delights. Ill share the menu just for fun….a bit rich and heavy for a summer day-Duck confit, potato soup, caviar, pate, and asparagus with hollandaise. Not your typical summer menu lol. I did enjoy the duck as it was falling off the bone and came from Europe. Don’t ask me how they obtained something like this but it was seasoned and very good. I also had wine so today is much lighter fare!

I will be back later for personal comments. Today I did take a 40 minute walk before it heated up. Lots of tea and water to hydrate and move the sodium out from yesterday. And, I’ve been with my DIL since this morning so need to get some things done around here.

@trooworld I agree, homemade breakfast sandwiches are so much better! And Birria tacos are incredible, I’ve never tried to make them because of the amount of work involved lol. Tracking is a challenge at times but it’s like creating a daily habit, keep trying :).

@cbabie I hope you can make some hard boiled eggs to supplement your cereal meals. Do you also like yogurt?

Tracking every meal, snack lick, bite and taste these days. Not obsessively, just in MFP for accountability and success. It was so hot last night I made grilled chicken salads with fresh cut vegetables, cheese and croutons. Light on the dressing….. Drank lots of water close to 64 oz. a day. I am down .04 this week. A trend I am trying to keep up!

Heading to the store soon for some cold drinks for the week - low cal lemonade, Pom juice, club soda, and sparkling waters.
We don’t drink diet sodas anymore due to bad ingredients and Carmel coloring. But sure, I would love a Diet Coke 1 x this summer lol.

@trooworld How did you do with food this weekend?

@cbabie Good job on no cookies.

@Michieb125 Sounds like your dinner party went well and you got in some exercise too. Yaaaay on the weight loss.

Well this wasn't a good weekend foodwise. Better days ahead.

Yesterday my dd and I binge watched The Night Agent. Strongly recommend. Just not all 10 episodes in same day.

Food: Over 50 carbs; over 600 calories
    Exercise: Rest Day
    Water: 8 oz water

    Today:

Food: Over 14 carbs; over 427 calories
    Exercise: 30 min cardio/weights

Hi all-tracking is going well along with water intake. Last night was tacos salads with ground beef and cheese and tomatoes etc. but added guacamole - reminds me of camping when I was a girl scout lol.

Not much to report today but I’m heading out to the community pool in our neighborhood with grandkids soon. That will burn some calories!

Dinners are hard when it’s 100 outside —- most likely salads again with protein.

Tomorrow morning is a 45 barre class and will try a beginner 45 min Zumba class before a hair cut and highlight in the afternoon. We shall see how the exercise goes, might be too much.

    Stay hydrated!

Afternoon all, sorry I haven't been here. sick baby and DH in Alaska doesn't help my time management. LOL. He is still fussy, but I am here. I am really working on my habits and my thoughts. I think those seem to be the things that I am working on to improve. If I REALLY want something I am not going to deny it or myself, but not eat a whole bag, etc...but if it's something I can say no not today, I will find...then I will. It's the little times I say no that ingrain that into my brain...so that is what I am going for.

@trooworld I hope the Dr makes your knee feel better. I know what it means to have a bum knee, no fun. And just for the record, it's too hot here no matter what time of day to walk..I don't think we hit 120 yet but it's been close.LOL

@theslightedgeforever Glad you had a better day.

@trooworld Yaaay on a bit more water. I hope you get some answers for your knee problem. How about using your Tonal since it's too hot to walk outside?

@cbabie Eventually you will find a plan that works for you.

    Yesterday:
Food over 13 carbs under 24 calories
    Exercise: 22 min walk
    Water 34 oz

    Today:
Food under 7 carbs, under 242 calories
    Exercise 1 hr 26 min cardio/weights/stretching
    Water 68 oz

@trooworld I'm glad you got a diagnosis. The good thing about strengthening your quads is that more muscle mass means higher metabolism which makes it easier to lose weight.

I was doing something similar today and I can't put my shoulders flat against the wall first off. Then I was supposed to keep arms on the wall and reach across and touch one hand to the other.
I couldn't even reach. I think it's shoulder range of motion. So I guess I'll be working on therapy exercises to try and fix that.

    Today:
Food over 22 carbs, under 126 calories
Exercise 30 min hill/sprint program 6 min wall pilates
    Water 34 oz

@trooworld Woohoo on the weight loss. Keep it going. Sorry about the arthritis and enjoy Comic-Con. Who are you most interested in seeing?

    Exercise: 37 min walk
    Water: 51 oz

@trooworld Yaaay on your steps. Good job. I would have hated to have tickets for comic con this year and then nobody to see because of the strike. But good on them for the strike. Although it will delay some of my shows. lol I loved the Maleficent costume. I was telling my dd and mispronounced the name and she started laughing.

Food: not over or under carbs, under 200 calories
    Exercise: none
    Water 17 oz.

Obviously I didn't work on my water today. I had planned to go to the gym at 6 and got up to get dressed and noticed the hard rain outside and thunderstorms. I thought it would blow over after 30 min but it didn't. When it finally finished too lazy to go to the gym. So it's on the schedule for tomorrow.

We went and saw Indiana Jones movie today. My daughter was like so many old people are here. I said not old, they are my age and we all saw the original. I can't believe that's been 42 years ago. That's wild.

Afternoon, I am here.....My days have been full and my nights short..LOL. I am feeling better and learning what foods just are not agreeing with me. I hope to be on here better, but I am learning not to stress over things I can't get to as my routines are changing. I feel as if I live in someone else's life.LOL. This is mine and I am tweaking it for me.

@trooworld So glad you know what you have and what to do to help it. Do you sleep with a pillow between your knees? I tried that when my back hurt and they told me it helps align your hips which takes the pressure off your back... Glad you got to go and enjoy the Comic-Con, hope you didn't get covid..

@theslightedgeforever you are doing so good while you are visiting your daughter. I am so proud of you..

@trooworld Hope you feel better and that it's not covid. Funny now that always seems to be our first thought when we have a symptom. Yesterday a lady was coughing in the gym and I kept thinking that better not be covid, I'm getting ready to go on a trip. That's scary about the lay-off. I'm glad you made the cut.

@cbabie So glad you are finding out what works for you. I'm doing much better this year here than last. I was re-reading my Penzu journal from this time last year and I had already gained 6 lbs. Right now I'm at a 4.5 lb loss. This upcoming trip will throw off my schedule so I need to get right back into my routine when I return.

Today we went to see Barbie It was so good. Especially for those of us that actually played with Barbies. The set design and outfits were perfect. Lots of good messaging in there. Then we went to the county fair. I love cows so I went around a waved at some and mooed back at others. I didn't do too bad on the fair food. I went over calories. 1/2 Hawaiian smoothie, 2 Grandma's cookies, an a philly cheese steak. I could have done worse and did at last year's MN state fair and the year before that at IA state fair. But I decided to get what I really want and then half the junk.

Food: 10 carbs over, 225 calories over
Exercise: 32 min walk but also lots of walking around at the fair. 10571 steps.
    Water: 80 oz.
