First day yesterday at new job went so fast. Real lunch break, omg an actual break room, coworkers all seem nice, management is helpful and kind.
But the view....it might take some getting used to. LOL
Yes this is tough to deal with at work.

@forestdweller1
You are such a great writer. Seeing a post from you really starts my day off so well, thank you!
Oh gosh y'all about the Cardinals, I had no idea!
@MissMay I am so happy for you with your new job.4 -
I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 18AF days in May.
I do this diary style:
Wednesday July 19 - Drinks. Made myself a Mojito out of my Ginger Mint, very delicious and different. Planned AF for the next 5 days.
Thursday July 20 - AF - Quite smoky here on Thursday, pretty much stayed inside.
Friday July 21 - AF - I probably could have had drinks last night after my 2 jobs because I only have 1 on Saturday that doesn't start until 3. I have plans to walk over to the Farmer's Market, do some weeding and some watering. Very hot here, so I am grateful that I wake up so early in the mornings before it gets too hot.

@ahoy_m8 such an adorable photo of you and your husband. Glad it was a nice get a way. Was that a golf course?
It was a mountain trail that kinda kicked my *kitten*, TBH https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7093550/nambe-lake-out-and-back4 -
Those cardinal stories are hysterical, and happy we don’t have these birds out in the West! But, Woodpeckers here can be very menacing on a house and I’m thinking they must be after something behind that wood siding or stucco.
Had little grandkids here for about 6 hours yesterday. Once they went home, I finally sat down and gave in to 2 1/2 glasses of white wine and a movie. It was the last bottle in my nice wine refrigerator. Back in the day my husband and I used to never allow it to get below 9-10 bottles. Another new revelation.
July goal: 21-22 AF days

@Michieb125 We've let our inventory get low, too. Still lots of Cabernet, but no white wine except for sparkling and champagne. DH actually pinged me to pick up something I would want for happy hour but I was lazy and didn't. Rather than opening a nice French champagne, we opened a handmedown bottle gifted to one of our daughters who dumped it on gave it to us. Gruet from NM, and I do like it, so half a bottle down for me last night. Tonight we go to a party and I plan to start with a hard drink like a limey tequila soda then just refill with soda. Tomorrow we usually shake up a margarita before dinner. We will not be following that with white wine because we don't have any.5

Nice late afternoon sail yesterday, and will be on the boat all day with my sister in laws’s family. Should be fun! I had one drink in the boat and a glass of wine when I got home. I’ll stick to two drinks today in some combination. I need a vacation from all the fun.
@MissMay so glad the new job is awesome! And what a view!3 -

@MissMay that new view from your new job, though!
Temps still hovering pretty high yesterday - kind of feel like a slug when it’s 100 degrees outside. Planned to have a Stella NA 00 while cooking dinner but had the white wine from the opened bottle instead. Then, half of a Smirnoff ICE zero sugar on ice in the same glass (dumped the other half can for calories sake). Still LA compared to June’s 2+1 shenanigans. Closing in on the last week of July! Time for me to rack up AF days this week.

Fun product discovery last night in the LA (vs AF) wine department!
Ok, I confess I did not stick to my plan to drink tequila at the party. I saw people with glasses of wine and that just looked good. They were serving 2 reds and 1 white -- a Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. DH downed 2 glasses like it was water, and after dinner we sauntered to the bar for refills and noticed the bottle was clear vs dark green we're accustomed to seeing. DH inquired, and it is Kim Crawford "Illuminati" (="Light", clever, no?). I could tell after 1 glass it was lower alcohol, but we agreed it tasted the same as full tilt Kim Crawford. Searched it when I got home. It's made 60% with regular SV with alcohol removed blended with 40% regular resulting in a product that's roughly half the alcohol (<7% ABV) and calories of normal Kim Crawford with the same taste. I really enjoyed it. Probably enjoyed it MORE because it was LA, to be honest.
This group laments how terrible AF wine is, but this, my friends, was a perfectly serviceable LA wine. I will buy this for home. I like Kim Crawford. It's not the best SV out there, but is is a good basic that we do have at home from time to time. KC evidently makes a rose "Illuminati" and I'd like to try that, too.
Apologies if this "product discovery" has already been discussed. New to me.

@forestdweller1 and @Womona. It must be a season but I have the same issue, but not a cardinal though. A little internet search and I think it's a goldfinch. First it was cute as the little thing kept coming to our TV room window. now it's been at our upstairs bedroom windows and our family room window...all different areas of the house. It's been going on for about a couple of weeks now. Very annoying...

I can't wait to look for this wine! It sounds perfect!!!5 -
I miss you all! Been busy taking business classes for work on the weekends. First, I envy the pictures of all those deep blue skies because here it's been all haze, ozone and super-hot heat.
I so feel for those of you going through a challenging time. I am in the same boat. I am telling myself, I need to start living a self-actualized life, meaning be in charge of my destiny, otherwise who will do this but me?6 -
@itladyee I am deeply sorry about your loss and big hugs for you! I went thru a similar experience 3 yrs. ago with my 14 yr. old retriever.
I do in fact like the bird pictures you posted. I think your finch friend is quite cute. I have many in my yard since they drink out of the salt water pool. Like a lot, maybe 30 visit on any given day. Some are brown, some green-ish, and some watermelon-pink. All birds are welcome except I draw the line with the doves who poop everywhere and the mockingbirds that wake us up at 4am!

Yes!!!! I was going to say the exact same thing!!3 -
I drank a little more than planned yesterday- two High Noons instead of one, with a small glass of wine with dinner. But still not bad.
My 12 year old nephew was on the boat with us, and he was a little seasick. Poor kid! But he perked up once we anchored the boat and went swimming. It was such a beautiful day out yesterday!
Back to work today hope everyone has a good week!7 -

Sunday July 23 - AF - I will have to find some time to cut my grass! Not this morning since I am watering, and plan to do the same tomorrow since it is so hot and stuff dries out quickly. I might have drinks tonight after the completion of my second job of the day. We'll see.

@globalhiker you say wise words….I believe there is so much more to life when we take charge of our own destiny (happiness, joy, truth, achievements, contentment). May you and each of us seek and find. You are worth it.
@forestdweller1 Hope you are all squared away with your important medications.
@ahoy_m8 I so appreciate the new KC SV find you mention here. While at my grocery store yesterday, my little eye spied it and the name alone is very alluring. Immediately, a bottle found its way into my cart. I plan to save it for the weekend and will report back! A big bonus is also 70 calories per serving
The heat wave has finally broken, and we’re looking at 70’s and 80’s for this week and part of next, oh the possibilities to get outside. Heading to the gym this morning and will see where the day takes me.

10 A and 15 AF - a few drops of ashwagandha in my water did the job - good for when I am craving the chill-factor of A but don't want to drink.7
