Melody in Illinois ( @healingmysticmelody ) Welcome, we're glad you're here! I had a full knee replacement on my right knee at age 59. The physical therapy was key for a quick recovery for the knee, and I would say the three months mark was much closer for pain relief and recovery than a year or two. I'd been in such pain before the surgery that I was actually surprised how little it hurt after. As one of our favorite people here says, "You can do this!" Welcome to the group...

Ginny and Kim ….Medicare…. I had to quickly learn about Medicare when moving my mom from Ohio to NY. I used a Medicare broker to choose the best plan. Knowing nothing, I contacted our car:home insurance broker (who didn’t offer healthcare insurance) and they referred me to a broker who was excellent! Helped me make the state to state transitions and found the most cost effective plan for my mom. All free. Yes, they’re paid commissions but in this case, the broker actually suggested plans that paid him nothing. We did it all through phone:zoom calls. Couldn’t have been simpler. My husband is 65 in October and his situation is different as he has retiree group insurance that is stellar.

Ginny- prayers for great results from your scans and peace for you until you get them back.
Carol-hope your knee continues to improve. I have a brace I use for mine when it acts up. It does help.

Ice cream Mochi is a special treat for me. It's a way to have some creamy mango ice cream, and not down a pint in one sitting, (such a talent eh?). The Mochi is rice flour, tapioca flour and sugar made into a pillowy, spongy covering, (I think those are the ingredients). Its best to set the balls (I eat them in sets of two) out a couple minutes before you carefully bite into them, so the Mochi softens just a tad, but not too long so the ice cream melts!

mochi ice cream is so good and mango is one of my favorites. Two is a perfect amount. I enjoy them once in a while with a cup of tea.1 -
@LisaInArkansas Thank you for the greeting, and Yes! It seems like 3 months is the turning point for many and I hope I am among that group! Very nice to know you were way better at 3 months too! I have an excellent PT and a great bend and I have been at about 3 steps forward and one step back for most of my journey. We have a camping trip/vacation planned for late September and I hope to be in great shape at that time!4

I enjoyed the Death Café. Got on well with a very young woman who is training as a mental health nurse. She is currently working with the old and frail. Other people were interesting. One doing early training as a hospice doula, but probably not going to do it professionally.
I had to get Ubers both ways because the buses are messed up by a demolition going on by the seafront from a major hotel fire. Causing chaos. I got one bus and had to give up .The taxis are going by the back way.
DH enjoyed his cricket and will go again tomorrow. Thursday looks like rain, so might have Max for a bit. He is delighted with my bookings, but we still have to look at the price of the Lyon hotel I fancy. It is a bit posh.
Good evening. 👍

I found these gems at Walmart and got them in all the flavors they had, lemon, orange and mixed berries ,they are the size of like a hoodsie cup and only 70 calories and quite refreshing, especially on my sore throat..7 -

Stats for the day-
Shorter walk w/family- 1 hr 44min 42sec, 26elev, 2.83ap, 5.08mi= 550c
Strava app= 623c
Other- 1hr 30min 43sec, bathe/dry/trim Lucy’s nails, wash all 3kids, 77ahr, 92mhr= 443c
Shorter walk had more to do. Washed all the kids. I made 2 batches of dog treats. I timed myself to see how long one batch would take, 1 hr 54min, so basically 4 hours in the kitchen. Ughhhh. Didn’t count the treat making calories lolol3 -
Flea and KJ-this will be like watching a mystery unravel!
Lisa in Ar ETC-Love your spirit of being willing to try!
Allie-you may need to take it easy even after symptoms subside. My fatigue was real-I don't think it was all thyroid stuff-don't know if it is still part of my issue or not. Be kind to yourself.
Melody in Illinois-welcome. We have another member from there-not sure how close Katla may be to your part of the state. Joints take time to heal-just keep doing pt and following up at home. Walking helped my hip replacements tremendously.
Thanks for well wishes on Thursday's scans. I will know the results that day. They scheduled them at one of the OSU locations for 10. My doctor appointment is at location about 10 minutes away at 11. He will have results by then. I may see the report on line before I see him if I have time to log in. Pretty efficient system for such a large one (at least my stuff through the James).
I have really been hitting the hydration since my experience last week. While I drink water, I think I am not always mindful about hydrating up prior to getting into situations-I drink my normal amounts but am going out somewhere where I will be in the heat and don't stay ahead of the game (if that makes any sense). Anyway, I feel better doing this. Could be a fluke, but doesn't hurt. Getting 120 ounces now.
Closing my evening eating window earlier-between 6:30-7:00. Then I eat breakfast around 7:30-8. Did that years ago and think just that helped with weight. Can't do the long fasts that Rebecca does but a 12 hour break doesn't hurt.
Off to clean up kitchen. Get to go to a meeting tomorrow at the County Fair-luckily it will be in the morning before too hot. However, we will stay until 11 so we can get fair pork chops. I am debating getting my yearly funnel cake . . .
Take care all,

You might need to check with your doctor about that vaccination.
There's often a recommendation to wait a while between the virus and the vaccine.

Barbie – I think that’s what I’m going to do from now on – just announce when we’ll be there, give Denise a few days to respond if that’s not a good time, and then make the reservations. I hate going thru this. We went thru it last year. No more
Just worked, made another loaf of sourdough and let it rise while I went in the pool. Now it’s in the oven baking
Lanette – those eggs are amazing, they really do look so much better than the one from the store.
Barb – ask and ye shall receive
Ginny – whooshing good thoughts your way
Heather – good job booking those flights. Proud of you, girl
When Covid hit, I was soooooo bored that I pulled all the pictures out. If I knew who was in the picture, I wrote the name on the back. If I didn’t but I thought someone else might, I sent the picture to them. If no one knew, I had to throw the picture out.
Vicki - so glad that new person seems to be working out. Let’s hope it continues.
Joy – the local paper now only publishes a paper on Tues. Thurs and Sat. So….Vince got these larger tablets so you can read almost the whole page at once.
Melody – welcome! I see Rebecca is back to posting pictures of her food. Watch out!!!...lol I look at it and gain 3 lbs
Took my walk around the block. No work tomorrow so the plan is to do a body pump DVD, then probably go to Aldi, get dinner ready, will probably get my next loaf of sourdough ready (this is the last one for now) then in the pool

Ginny - also wishing you good luck on your scan, nice that the results are available so quickly. I try to go 12 hours between meals, sometimes if I'm not hungry I'll go longer. I find I can no longer take much heat, even in the shade. Anything over 80, no way. And I'm also sensitive to the cold. It was around 51 when I went on my sunrise walk, I wore a warm cap and gloves and my hands were still cold. Cold hands, warm heart!
Rita - thanks for posting your accountability information.
Flea - look at the delightful Pandora's box that was opened with your question about Fern's pictures. What fun for all of us. And love the ideas.
Allie - love the photos of Miles and the kids with the chickens. Look at those brown eggs! Speaking of, Gladys popped out another one this afternoon. I recall you felt sick for several days before you even took the test so are you considered past the 5 day infectious status? Those pearls you found a Walmart look yummy.
Barbara - when I get a chance, I'll see if I can somehow post my spreadsheet or at least list information I'm tracking. Like Terri, it's data collection only. I don't worry about goal "dates" anymore. I used to when I went to WeightWatchers because I wanted to get to the "Lifetime" weight ASAP, lol. I wonder if they still honor that?
Heather - I'm tending toward eating like you - cutting way back on the "white" carbs.
Kylia - missing you!
Melody - welcome. Sounds like your knee replacement is doing well. This is the place to be. The thought of your hot weather makes me hot, lol. Do you have smoke too? My sis in Northern Indiana and brother in North Central Indiana have really poor air quality today. Brother had a bad hailstorm come through a few weeks ago, baseball/softball sized hale. He's getting a new roof on his house, plus gutters and downspouts. Similar hailstorm hit him 3 years ago and he had the roof replaced then. Thank goodness for insurance!
Rebecca- that soup looks scrumptious!
Medicare Stuff: That reminds me - for anyone getting on Medicare in the near future, or thinking about switching this fall, I ran into "Medicare School" - YouTube channel last year. This guy is a broker, or represents brokers, and really goes into detail about the pluses and minuses of the different plans. I had Medigap F and switched to G after listening to his presentation last fall. Here's the link if anyone is interested:
Subaru Stuff: Took my little Subaru in this morning for the timing belt replacement and head gasket oil investigation. They said they are a mechanic short this week, he's on vacation, so they might not get to it until later in the week or even Monday - I told them no biggie since I had other wheels. The service tech took about 15 minutes to explain the different kinds of leaks head gaskets can have and which ones are trouble and which ones are a nuisance but nothing serious as long as the engine isn't using a lot of oil. I told him I was so curious about this and wanted to shadow his mechanics for a day and see what all they did since I used to watch my dad and my DH work on cars a lot. So I got the tutorial instead, lol. It was perfect.
Better get busy. Have a great evening ladies

I took all the photos I had from my collection and my mother's, some dating back to the early 1900;'s and scanned them before discarding the actual photos. I titled each with as much info as I had. Now I can enjoy a slide show on my computer or email a photo to anyone who might be interested.
Fasting doesn't work for me. I get light headed if I don't eat every few hours. My meals and snacks are small and I am very active all day so I need the energy throughout the day.
If I lived in a different neighbourhood, I might have chickens.
Vicki, congrats on finding a new worker who looks like they might fit in and stay awhile
Heather, congrats on booking your trip.
I don't do well in too much heat so on our rare extra hot days, I stay indoors in the air-conditioning. I get cold easily so I wear extra clothing both indoors and out. I have a choice of hats and jackets for every temperature.
Our big adventures today were dropping off two boxes to return to Amazon, picking up two library books, stopping for ice cream (a rare planned exception to our regular eating plan), and a nap.

Are you sure Gladys is the only one laying? They will only lay one a day so if you are getting more than one in a day, another girl has started laying too.

That's probably a good idea given how long you've been telling us you're sick.
Lie down. Sleep. Read. Relax. Rest.1 -
Allie-laying low the extra few days is probably a good idea. We still don't know everything about how things are passed. And I agree with Machka, I believe there is a period of time between having Covid and getting vaccine. Your body will carry some natural immunity for a while. I plan on my next booster in September. I will get my flu vaccine at one time and a couple of weeks later Covid (I react to vaccine too much to take two together). I am up to date on everything else but need tetanus shot towards the end of the year for the ten year booster.
Barbie in NW WA-I don't fast during the day! I tend to eat a bit of something every 3 hours or so. Planned snacks are part of my food plan. I try to have sensible ones, but a sugar free Klondike bar can find its way in!
Lanette-I can find the cold bothersome (my body really is just messed up with temperature regulation, I almost never run a fever), but with the cold I can layer up for it-with the heat I can only remove so much to help! Also agree with Debbie-you have several girls producing eggs!
Slept pretty well last night. Weather says next four days will be in high 80s/lower 90s. Humidity in high 80s/90s so will not be pleasant. This morning at the fair I will be in AC for meeting. Can tour other buildings in AC-just outside to get lunch, then sit under tent. Other times just out for car to building. Morning walks will be in the 60s even if muggy so I should be ok.
Lucy (one of my cats) just jumped up for morning attention, complete with full out purring session. When she was young she was much more stand offish. She has changed in last year. She is still not as needy as the other cat (Zombu), but a definite shift. They are both 14 so I guess we are aging together. In cat years they will soon transition to the geriatric stage! I know they are hitting the ages where they may pass at any time. I'm just letting them do their thing until then. I seriously doubt, when they pass, that I will get replacements.
Time to get ready for walk and start the work day.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

I've never used a travel agent.
When we've travelled in the past, I've booked flights (directly from the airline) and the first night in the new continent. Going to Europe, we'd fly into Heathrow and stay at a hostel in Earl's Court. Then we'd cycle and take trains all over the place ... and the ferry across to France. We'd just go where the wind blew us.Heather ~ All your travel arrangements sound so complicated. In another life, you should have been a travel agent. This is from someone who has not spent a night away from home in the last 5 yrs. LOL

And I thought it was bad that we hadn't left our island state in 5 years!!!
I'd be climbing walls if I were stuck at home that whole time!!

Good morning, ladies.
Some have posted that they don't read or watch the news. I am an avid news reader/watcher. If I'm not able to watch the late news, I will catch up the next morning online. I think it was just something I was brought up with as my parents always had a daily paper to read and watched the news every evening. Even when I am on holidays, I have to check through the news on the internet to see what is happening in the world. My DS and DD are exactly the same with their interest in local and world events.
Joy
In my husband's early working career, he was a journalist, and his father was a journalist too.
Since my husband's accident, he spends a lot of time reading the news online. It seems to interest him.
I skim headlines, but only occasionally have time to read the articles.
