Trying to get back into healthy eating habits this week. I’ve been making bad choices lately and been paying the price for it.

@emgracewrites - I hope things settle soon. I know too we’ll how that type of stress makes you ill.

@pridesabtch - are you looking forward to an empty nest?

Empty nest hasn't really kicked in yet. We've been really busy. Tonight will be the first night we will be home since we dropped V off. I have a feeling it will be sad...

I will walk around the block, walk at least 5000 steps, track my food to the best of my ability and eat small portions of meals that are prepared by other people so I don't have to ask about what they fed me. If I am hungry, I will fill up on fruit. I will drink lots of water.

Michele's death followed by taking my little one to college has blown a hole in my world. My drinking and eating have both been out of control. I made a change yesterday, I signed up with a coach from a program called Adult Onset Athletes, hoping he can get me back to consistent exercise and into running form by April. Michele and I ran together at the Cooper River Bridge Run a few years ago and then did the 1/2 century the following day on the bikes. It was hard, but a good time. I want to revisit those memories. Though I hope it will be a tad warmer next year than it was the year we ran.

Tomorrow I have a root canal scheduled. Not looking forward to that, but I do get to sleep in a bit.

    Goals for today:
    - Be kind to myself
    - Do some work things
    - Dinner with friends (limit drinks)
    - Bed by 10:00

I had a notification from MFP today. It said "7 years of My Fitness Pal. Your commitment has lasted longer than most marriages."

    😂Awkwaaaard.

Anyway, took the kids to the museum today. It was good but i got really annoyed when I found out that you had to pay for the exhibition I wanted to take the kids to. (The digestive system one).
I wouldn't have minded if I had known before hand, I wouldn't have got the kids all excited about it but dropping a £45 price tag on us is not something I was prepared for. So no poo-hat pics unfortunately! But we all still had a really really good time.

I did want to ask a parenting question for the more wiser lot.
Marleys 7. And she just makes racist comments but not intentionally, like she doesn't know it's racist for starters. And she's merely commenting on her surroundings but I don't know how to approach the situation.
For context, we got the bus today. About a 40 minute journey. It's a busy bus route so naturally there were lots of people on the bus, and it was very multicultural. At one point Marley starts saying something and I can't make it out so I asked her to repeat herself twice. To which she raised her voice so I could hear and said, "This bus is like an Indian bus".. then she turns around and said "Look at everyone!".
I didn't handle it the best.. I didn't shout but I just told her to "shut her mouth. And don't say things like that." I then went beet red. Ash asked.me what she had said because he was sat separately and I just said "I can't repeat it out loud. It was just something very silly.".

Everyone seemed okay about it. And I got the "it's okay" look from everyone but Jesus Christ. They don't put this sorta stuff in the parenting books.

After the bus ride. I took Marley to one side and explained properly..but how do you even explain racism to a kid?

Well Bex, racism is a hard one. We live in a very "white" state, where there were only a few people of color in the schools or in the community. I just tried to tell the kids that it's ok & normal to notice differences in people, but people aren't always happy when you point those differences out. If you need to describe someone who is of a different race, its ok to say they are a person of color, but it is just as effective to tell me they are wearing a yellow shirt.

@pridesabtch - I think you need to give yourself some grace. You’ve had a tough few weeks m, with a new job on top of it all.

@Bex953172 - I think every parent finds themselves in your situation at one time or other. She probably wasn’t being racist, just pointing out how many there were on the bus.
My MIL is fond of telling us about my DH saying a man was dirty when he was little. She said she wished the ground would have opened up and swallowed her.

Our daughter kept pointing out a man’s huge nose. It was the brother of the man that raised my MIL. The more I tried to tell her to be quiet the louder she got.

I think a quiet conversation at home about what is appropriate and what isn’t would be helpful.

I am going to be away for a week starting tomorrow so I’ll start back on here next week again.

    Have a great week!

Yes it's not the first time. Where we lived previously it was a predominantly white area. There was maybe one or two black/again kids in her class. But when we moved to where we are now the classroom was very multicultural. I think she was only five? But she said "I don't want to play with the brown girls".. to the teacher. So they asked me about that and I had to explain that she hasn't even seen black people before.

But thank you for your advice. And yeah I get the t-shirt thing lol that makes alot of sense. I might try use that to explain to Marley.

Also thank you @Snowflake1968 for the advice. Yep I wanted to die on the bus. If I didn't get the "its okay" look I probably would of cried lol. Public embarrassment is the worst lol not like I could get off the bus 😂

Coping with a bereavement, empty nest, and a new job at the same time isn’t easy. It’s not surprising that some things slip, but you can do this. Just focus on one day at a time. And lean on us.
