Raining again here which means more project delays on the house. Sigh.
My weight is fluctuating upwards again ... arghh ... I know what needs done and just need to do it!

We are in the heat wave too. Yesterday I spent it at a friends pool who lives on a lake. It was the way to spend the day. Another hot one today. I will spend it inside as much as possible. I will have watering done here by 10.1

Kim I was stung by 12 wasps two summers ago. I took some Benadryl too. When I got stung I put bentonite clay on the stings, elevated what I could. Stung on legs and arms. I also put ice on the stings and tried to stay calm. I did go into emergency care but there was a young woman coughing who did not wear her mask over her mouth and we were in the middle of COVID so I left. Now I carry a homopathic remedy. I have not had to use it. I did think to take it to my friend's house. Because of the time of year there were wasps in her pool. I was careful and she and I keep filtering them out and I had no problems. She was going to let them drown in her pool. I said not a good idea they can still sting after they are dead if you are not careful. I did swell when it happened two years ago and for some reason after the swelling went down I swelled up again a week later. I carry a kit with benadryl or quercerin, the bentonite clay, and the remedy. It is a good reminder if we go to the State Fair to take my kit because the sweet drinks are ubiquitous wasps are very common there.3

Heather if they look like wasps but don't sting they could be mud dabbers. There is no reason to exterminate those. Unfortunately wasp are very aggressive and territorial so if they are in a spot where you might disturb them they have to go. On our son's deck if I see them starting a hive I spray it with peppermint oil and water to deter them. So far it has worked well. If they are established I wait until dark and spray it with wasp spray. When it happened two years ago the nest was in the neighbors yard. I was trying to give one of our trees some water and when I watered over their fence the wasps attacked me. I avoided that area the rest of the summer.4 -
Lots of concentration this afternoon. First we drew the ballgowns in Little Women. Then various efforts went on. I did a bookmark for my friend L. DH and Edie enjoyed being experimental.
Max went off to sailing. His mother was cross with him because he hadn't brought his phone, log book, or the proper shoes.
It's amazing how messing about with paints can calm you.

Margaret - Thank you for the push, it got me outside to get the watering done for my flowers before the scorching begins. As soon as I'm done with this post, I have to go turn it off. We'll be skimming 100 degrees again. I have to admit, I get tickled about the whole "heat dome," drama. It is August in Arkansas, and it is always hot. I understand this is unusual for those of you in the more northern climates, but for us, it's just... hot. It's August, and August is hot.
Kim - My dear friend, August has not been good to you for so many reasons.
Hope Levi's doing better, bless his heart. That's a lot of budget-wrecking vet bills in an awfully short space of time. Sorry you had such a horrible reaction to the ground wasps, too! Can't address the situation with your brother and your mother because I have no solutions, only much 
and hugs for all of it. September has got to be better.

Your hamstring issues don't sound like any picnic either, dear heart. Glad you're here with us again, stop in and keep us posted on how you're doing...
Tracey - Hope you get your quality time with your hubby while you're camping. I'm kind of over the camping thing myself, even if it's in a camper and not a tent. It still just feels like pretending you're homeless to me.
That attitude did not go over well when I was working with the Girl Scouts...

Your bout with covid sounds completely awful, and the lack of regard for your sister's health issues on family's part is so frustrating. I hope the consequences of her bout with it are being brought under control.
Heather and Evie - Grandchildren are so amazing and so exhausting at the same time... Your ability to take care of yourselves and your own physical health is probably what makes it so you have the stamina to enjoy your time with them so much!
Annie - So pleased your dad tested negative - enjoy your lunch out!
Vicki - Thinking about you, hope there are answers from the docs. Keep us posted when you can...
Wasps and such: I have family members who have terrible reactions to stings, but have so far been fortunate that I don't. I'm also, apparently, not allergic to poison oak or poison ivy, thank goodness. My mother used to break out from poison ivy just from washing my brothers' clothes where they had brushed up against the plants in the pine woods where we lived in East Texas.
Slept for nearly ten hours last night, the new meds are really leaving me quite staggery in the mornings, unfortunately, but I appreciate the sleep. Time to go turn the water off and find me some breakfast.

Ginny, people say that Covid is just like a cold or mild flu. I just got over Covid and I can't agree. I was sick with body aches and headaches and congestion that was worse than any cold I've ever had. It is horrible when people aren't careful about exposing others. I caught Covid from my two nephews who had coughs and fevers and visited their mom when they were sick. When I asked if they tested for Covid, both said no because they didn't have time to isolate and Covid was just like a cold now. My sister and I both got Covid and it may have been what precipitated the adrenal crisis at this time.
Vicki, hope the doctors give you answers. Hugs

I also hate when people say Covid is just a bad cold. IF it was, I would not be sitting here missing my dad. He died from Covid.
I got it from him(didn't know he had it on Christmas). I went up the morning he passed away and the next day I was flat on my back in bed. No energy to do anything but barely get up to use the bathroom. I was thankful I had thought to bring my nebulizer machine with me- Used that every four hours for the two weeks I was stuck there. I would eat maybe a piece of toast and that was it then back to bed the first week. No way I could drive the over an hour back home on the back roads. All I did was sleep.6 -
Heading over with DH to walk his mom's dog while he takes care of her(food and pills)- she is such a pain. She will only eat food IF he buys it. If he fixes a meal or if I cook anything, she refuses to eat it. She has told him many times after asking if I cooked it, to just throw it in the trash.
He asked me to go over with him because he wants a day when she doesn't yell at him.
We had to go out and order her a new stove yesterday because she said her current one wasn't working- It works fine she just was confused by the digital reading part of it- ordered one with just dials, electric with burners because she wouldn't be able to use a flat top one. Got a black one to match her fridge- threw a fit because she didn't want black. This was after he had been there for two hours in the morning, was home 15 min when she called and he had to go back over to check the stove and then, had to go back that afternoon for dinner/pills and more yelling(that is when she said she didn't like the color) Not a lot to pick from that isn't digital or flat top-we went to two stores. We know what is there. Of course, he was in a mood after that. I understand he is beyond frustrated but when he starts in with the cussing and slamming stuff- I am not going to be around it. He gets mad that I don't stand and listen to the rants but not doing that anymore.
So, will walk the dog for 45 min, go up to Fairfield for one merchandising shop that has a deadline of Friday. Wanted to do all three in that town on the same day but don't have the supplies for the other two or the one here in town. They are coming tomorrow evening. I am working tomorrow afternoon and Friday. The other two shops have a deadline of Sunday so I have a few extra days to get them-just didn't want to have to drive 30 min twice in a couple days.
Class tonight. It will only be 45min instead of an hour. Teacher is subbing for another teacher at another place from 5-6, our class is going to be 6:30-7:15 and then she is going to join two other teachers at another place from 7:30-8:30. I don't know how she can do all that - The only rest time she will have is driving from one class to the next.

No sound in the wall today. So it might have left? Hoping that is the case.
Had a night phone chat with middle son. He had started off texting me, " Owain has contacted you"? I texted back for him to phone me, because I didn't want to type, I had a lot to say.😁 We decided to concentrate on the fact that he reached out, and not be concerned about the whys or reasons of his quietness. I said we can chat face to face and bring some of those things up.
He mentioned that the doctors want to induce DDIL the first week of Sept, because the baby is on the small size and DDIL hasn't gained much pregnancy weight. So doctors want him out at 39 weeks so he can get as much nutrients etc, because evidently the baby isn't getting all he should be getting in the womb. The baby is at 6 lbs but healthy, and they did an aminocentesis and the amniotic fluid is good. I know he's concerned but he is trying to be strong about it all. I told him that I was a small baby at 4 lbs and did just fine. My DDIL's mother is there, watching Athena because my son has started his fall business college semester. Taking a fairly full load of classes. He will have a stressful September but hopefully will acclimate to it all. DDIL has maternity leave until January so that will be good.💖
Today up at 5 am, on treadmill for 40 min. My left foot is getting a huge blister on flat part of foot by big toe. So the pad there. Frustrating. I wonder if I should even walk tomorrow or take a day of rest? I will see how it looks tomorrow. Its the same foot I sprained in June, so its bothersome.

Pip - love the new camper. You will use it a lot - that's my idea of "going camping", lol. As I recall, your camper affair started out with Betty the Airstream. Am I remembering right? Good job making your goal, by the way.
Kate - so happy to hear from you, you have been missed. Sorry to hear about your DH's health. Are you able to make it to Spain any more?
Vicki - sending ((((HUGS)))), I sure hope they get to the bottom of these medical issues.
Kim - Sorry to hear about Levi's spendy Vet visits, and those rotten hornets. I had 2 nests last year that I couldn't eliminate, I tried everything but pouring cement into the holes and I think they would have excavated around them. One was by the back gate I had to go past all the time to stack wood in the woodshed and drive the lawnmower thru, another one out in the middle of the yard that I'd mow over quickly! Luckily, none this year. Picking apples has been a challenge as the yellowjackets swarm around those that fall on the ground - doing my best to keep ahead of them by going out when it's still cool and tossing the falls into the back yard for the deer and bunnies. I still have the cast iron skillet if your brother needs a virtual "love tap". Sounds like he wants one.
Eating on the Wild Side - I'm more than half way through "Eating on the Wild Side". Great book. Everyone's favorite tomato around here is the "sun gold" - orange, super sweet. Basically a sugar pill, few redeeming nutritional qualities, lol. But delicious and nice to have something home grown. I have one plant, not sure if I'll do a repeat next year.
Gardening cutback - I'm following the conversation here about gardening. I'm going to cut back further next year. I'm looking through all of the seed catalogues for patio red cherry types, determinate so they don't get so straggly huge. I have a lot coming on right now - will pop the ones I can't eat into the freezer and cook them down into sauce this winter. I haven't had any luck starting lettuce from seed - oh, I can get it started but can't seem to get it to thrive. Next year I'll get starts at the farm store, plop them into fresh potting mix and see if that works.
I've noticed the Safeway Grocery store here is now carrying organic sprouts. Expensive, but nutritional power houses. I nearly picked up a container of broccoli sprouts yesterday, but fresh basil caught my eye. I'm going to make pesto today and pop it into the freezer. I freeze it in little cubes so it's perfect to add to soups or sautees.
Apple Vinegar - My kitchen smells like a distillery - apple scrap vinegar is "working". My warm kitchen has certainly helped get things perking. First it goes through the alcohol stage, then converts to acid. We'll see.
Every day I use a wooden spoon and poke the apples down into the liquid, kind of stirring them around.
Freezing corn in the husk - Got half a dozen ears from my girlfriend Dana's farm stand in town yesterday, it was just picked that morning. Talk about fresh. I'm going to get a bunch more and freeze it in the husk. Thaw for a day in the fridge, then microwave it like I normally do, in the husk, about 3 1/2 minutes per ear. Dana said that's how she does it these days. Have any of you tried this?
Direct Care - Barbara, you wondered about my comment about my doc and Direct Care. The clinic I go to does not take insurance. For a set monthly fee, I can get unlimited long visits if I need them, "free" minor surgical procedures, vastly reduced discount on labs and other services. The docs make house calls within 10 miles of the clinic, for small additional fee. The Vitamin D test I had done a couple weeks ago was $27. To get a Vit. D test through a regular doc, it's my understanding that it's horrendously expensive and in order for insurance to cover it, there has to be a reason the doc can code it to. A lot of seniors I know are willing to pay out of pocket to go to this clinic for the excellent customer service attitude they have.
OK better close before you gals get eyestrain, lol.

Kim in CA If you open the spoilers, you’ll see my yearly goals, suggested exercise goals (which I haven’t been able to make) and the monthly list. I have this all on one document, and have made it a habit to update all of it every day. Keeps me focused. I do show it to my therapist every month as she asks about it. Sometimes I email it to her because she really likes what I’m doing here. I see a therapist mostly for verification that I am doing thing right to help my sanity, and to be more accountable. I like where I am right now emotionally and don’t want to change anything.
My son was mad at me for expressing my concerns about his life right now. Yesterday, he did text me asking for help to fill out a form. He (39 years old) relies on me too much and others. He wants everything done for him. So, I found the forms he needed to fill out and texted the link to him. He didn’t reply so I assume he wanted me to actually fill it out for him. I don’t know all his details and can’t unless he is will to be more open with me and accept when people are trying to help him. I’m just going to wait and leave it all in his hands. Keeps me sane!
Barbie I am so glad for you! Your estranged son contacting you and actually making contact with others! They always seem to come around when they are ready. You can’t force others to do what you want or what you think is right. They have to make their own decisions. I’ve had to do that with my son every so often, but he always comes back. Much faster than my girls. But then again, my girls aren’t doing anything I wouldn’t do myself (or approved of! Lol).

My husband and I only have 1 grandchild. We get to keep him every other week for an overnight. Our son James and his wife Amy live an hour away not far but not like hey can I stop by. So 1wk we get him & the next wk Amy's parents have him overnight. If truth be known her parents probably have him more often. My husband spoils him too much, which is not a plus.
Jackson is 6 now. He says some of the funniest things. He is like his dad in that respect. He is partly home schooled and belongs to a home school group that meets in a classroom environment 3 days per wk. One of the days they have outside class. It really involves all the senses. On the day we have him we have school work to do with him. It's not easy. The last thing was on the tides and the sea and how it is affected by the moon. 6 yr old home work. Pretty intimidating. M ya know my hubs started acting cranky and I told him he needed to have a check up. He has never been cranky. Testosterone level down and Psa up. I get to give him a shot every 2wks woo hoo. Maybe ur guy needs check up.0 -

Got second load of laundry in the dryer. Two batches of fruit preserves cooked and cooling to use in product test this afternoon(testing food flavorings), Got half a bag of shrimp cooked and cooling so I can clean them. Started out planning for shrimp and fish tacos but remembered we used up the tortillas and didn't pick up more so now it will be pasta with shrimp, using up the last of the pappardelle . White sauce for son and his girlfriend if she comes over, pesto for me. Dh can have either white or red sauce.
Steamed zucchini, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers with melon for dessert.
Ice cream for those who wants it.
NOW, if they don't want to eat when it is ready, they can warm it up when the do want it.Not going to wait for them.
Now to enjoy the quiet and work in the garden a bit before it gets too warm
