I was planning a me day, as DH was going birdwatching with one of his pals. He just got a phone call from said friend who was up sick all night. The outing is cancelled, so am rethinking my day. Not the end of the world, just a minor distraction 😝

Lisa have a care. I was immune to poison oak until I was 13, then boy oh boy did I get a horrible reaction, internal swelling, the whole shebang. Poison oak, mosquitoes and wasps, whatever was the Creator thinking? Thanks for the Aging Fears article. Good way to evict those peace of mind thieves.

Lisa-very interesting (and reassuring) article you shared! Question regarding the site-does membership have a cost? I am hesitant to sign up for things I haven't researched. And btw-I like the store bought cushions and would not have driven myself crazy trying to make something that wasn't bringing me joy.
I also have fears of memory going but perhaps it is because media makes it seem like it happens to everyone. Most of my family has stayed sharp to the end. My brother who has difficulties they think may have been caused by an old injury (they don't think there is a genetic factor). I am glad we have options for living that help maintain independence. In my own mental struggle over when is the right tie to retire I have found there is no cookie cutter answer. Even with the thyroid cancer, doctors say otherwise my health is very good-and it is such a slow mover it will most likely not be a factor. I think we just need to adjust how we do things and enjoy each stage. Just because I am a certain age does not mean I have to act old. I have a coworker 6-7 years younger than I who walks hunched over with the cares of the world on their shoulders-takes tremendous effort to get a smile on their face. I try not to follow that lead.
Early morning thunderstorms so no early morning walk. Will walk inside work today at lunch to get active minutes in (we have a large conference room good for laps). Will also get nice stretching session in this am. Hope everyone has a good day.

Does anyone have tips on how to teach someone how to breathe from the diaphragm? When I got together with my friend she had put weight on around her middle. I told her that if she could learn to breathe from her diaphragm that would be part of the process to help her. I modeled the breathing for her but she says she is unable to do it. When you breathe from your diaphragm it calms you. Being in that calm state does many good things for your attitude and your body. I think being a singer is part of why I am able to easily breathe from my diaphragm. At the painting group on Monday I got a compliment from the woman next to me she told me I exude calm. I have not always been like this.5

I looked up how to help to learn how to breathe using your diaphragm. There were many good tips. It did say it can help with abdominal bloat, so my instincts were right about my friend. There are some underlying health conditions if you are unable to breathe from your diaphragm... gall bladder is one and a hernia is another. It is a muscle so like any muscle there are ways to do exercises to strengthen it. If you are interested you look up how to breathe from your diaphragm. If you have COPD or severe anxiety it did say you should have your doctor help you with learning how to do it so if you struggle to learn it your anxiety will not increase. Again it is one health habit to add to other habits that can improve your health.3

Today we do our walk through and get to pack the new Bette 4.0 with our camping stuff! We can leave stuff in the new trailer instead of taking it back home.
Kirby is leaning towards selling the smaller trailer that we are in now which will make more room in our garage

Today was my husband's and my 15th anniversary, and 20 years of knowing each other.
After my work, we dressed in formal attire ... my husband in his new suit that we bought last week, and me in my grad dress from December 2020 when I graduated with the master's degree.
Then we went to Government House for a Brain Injury Association of Tasmania reception. It's their 25th anniversary so we (as we're part of BIAT) were celebrating with the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers. The governor of Tasmania is the representative in the Australian state of Tasmania of the Monarch of Australia, currently King Charles III ... so there was a lot of ceremony even during the process of entering Government House.
I really enjoyed the experience, and just as we were leaving we had a lovely chat with Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers.

My choir director taught me how to breathe from my diaphragm. Kind of like sipping air thru a straw, while tightening the muscles in my belly. Singing from my diaphragm feels like my core is helping to support the sound coming out. I know my abdomen is really firm! Does that help? I don't practice breathing as often as I should.

A great recognition of all the hard work you have put in.
I've done my Zoom with Saga. Chatted about the difference the grandchildren have made to our lives. They want a few photos of me with the grandchildren, for a possible article, but nearly all of them are ones I took of DH. Found a few group ones, and one of me and Edie. I'm just getting DDIL to approve them before I send them.
Then the cupboard door came off in the kitchen, again. This made DH very grumpy, as he mended it last time. It's lasted a while, but I think we'll have to move the hinge. He wasn't happy. I got cross because I was standing there holding the door up and he was just sighing. In the end I gave him the door and went off myself to find a prop. Grrr! Managed not to lose my temper.
We have a thunderstorm. DH went out for the fruit and vegetable shopping earlier in the morning, because of the forecast. Good call! Still bucketing down.

1. Set an intention to be kind to others (and yourself) this month. I plan to be kind to people I meet and to myself. Not just this month but all the time. It may not be every time, but I will try.

Went to doctor yesterday for bloodwork review. All was good EXCEPT: 1. A1C up to 5.7 so getting a glucose monitor and watching what I eat better (the highest I got was 7.0), 2. Blood pressure is way too high (186/104 this morning) so upped my meds for that and recheck in 2 weeks if it doesn’t go down (checking at home daily and logging for now), 3. Kidney function has been decreasing steadily so need to see a kidney doctor now, and a cardiologist. So my PC says something in going on because I never had this kind of a check up before. 😳 I need to watch everything for a while! I really hate getting old!!

Rebecca ~ Your experience with noise in your home must have been an omen...LOL. Last evening, my husband had just laid down and I sat in the recliner when I kept hearing a loud scratching noise. I got him up to see about the cause. When he opened the door to the porch, in ran squirrel who dashed down the hall. We looked all over but couldn't find it. This morning, we emptied out the bedroom closets looking for it but found nothing. Then, my husband spied it behind his chest of drawers. We closed all the doors except the bedroom door and opened the door to the basement stairs. DH prodded him and he took off and we hope he is in the basement. Turned on the alarm so if he is moving down there, we can find him again.

Kim ~ The garage is in the basement so we thought if DH opened the garage door he would leave. We couldn't catch him to put him out the front door. Only problem is that DH is reluctant to leave the garage door open for any period of time. Don't ask me why he thinks the way he does. I will never understand and I had no say in the matter.

Hello all I’m Rosa from MI and 57 on the 30th! I’ve dealt with some health issues that seem to trigger each other since they’re autoimmune based and they all have the same basic recommended food plan to improve symptoms which is low sodium low sugar no alcohol no caffeine no red meats or shellfish low cholesterol healthy fats avoided refined carbs and processed foods and increasing vegetables whole grains and legumes and fruit and poultry and finned fish.
One of my Doctors said to follow low sodium DASH and Whole Foods Mediterranean and basically combine them. Which is what I am in the process of doing. I’m also a WeightWatcher because I have friends and a nice community at my weekly meeting.
I’m married 33+ years to my best friend and we have two adult kids in their 20’s and two dogs.
I nosed around this group and see daily postings which is nice I’m looking for that daily activity in a group to help keep me on track and to help encourage each other.

Rosa ~ Welcome! What a cute photo of you! Your autoimmune diet sounds very strict. I personally would have a difficult time following it because I love my coffee and wine in the evening. I could stay away from sweets but like salty crunchy things. Thus I have gained 30 lbs since I was in my 50's. Turned 75 in August.
