Hi Gals,
When I got Levi, he would sneak up on the bed every night - I had never had a dog sleep on the bed and it wasn’t in my plan… but it was in his! Over time I got used to it. And on the cold winter nights I really appreciated it. But lately he has fallen out of bed in the night (I think vision related – as at this point he really needs contrast) and also needs help getting in. I have not lifted him up for about 3 nights we just cuddle on his bed at bed time then I get into my bed and leave him on his. I have missed him, but know that falling out of bed in the night is scary for both of us and he could get hurt. Last night I guess he had had enough, we were walking into the bedroom and he was suddenly airborne in the direction of the bed, luckily I was able to catch his back end and get him on the bed. He slept leaning against me all night. It was good to have him back. I think I’ll look into the side things you put on a toddler’s bed. Then he won’t fall out.

Did a bit more sorting today. Found a few very expired things in the kitchen cupboards. Cinnamon powder from 2011 anyone? Threw out some giant couscous that I have never used, (DH doesn't like it), after I discovered expiry was 2014. I'm sure it's fine, but I'm never going to use it. Now have a few things in the plastic trays I bought, but they are smaller than I thought. My next job will be to tackle the pull out spice rack. Mostly just little empty storage jars, which are far too small for the big packs I buy from Amazon.
I am nearing the end of my book, and I'm starting to write about a side of my life I rarely admit to. I haven't got a name for it, as I dislike the word 'spiritual', but it's to do with the transcendent side of life. I am not religious and I am an atheist and humanist, but that side of my life is becoming a bigger and bigger part of me. Maybe by writing about it, I will discover what to call it. Scientific numinosity? I'm reading a lot about brain science and the oneness of nature and matter. I love exploring ideas. I have a Philosophy MA, so I've always been an explorer.
Zoom with my girlfriends in 10 minutes. Hoping not to shout at P this week!!

Kim - One cheap and effective option might be a pool noodle, under the sheet, at the edge of the bed. It should give him something to alert him it's the edge of the bed. I don't know that it would work, but it seems to make sense.
Rebecca - I think that considering it as a coma for these last few years is a very forgiving way to deal with his lack of communication, and that if it satisfies your heart, then it's good for both of you.
Heather - I think we've all gone through some part of our lives where we've been seekers. It's a very human process, trying to find something outside ourselves. I just think there are different outcomes for each of us. Enjoy your zoom... No yelling!
Margaret - You look lovely in that picture.
Lanette - Glad your visit with Dr. Matt went well, and well done for our chickie babies!
Using y'all to procrastinate getting down and getting the ditch mowed with the walk-behind mower... I've been lazy for four days straight and need to get off my behind and get moving... this is the hummingbird suncatcher John & Soraya brought, in this morning's sunrise:

Joy, thank you for sharing about Lucy's potty training. There are so many things going on with Bodhi and we are more and more convinced that he has lived most of his life as a stray and doesn't clearly know what's indoors and what's out. He is getting better at going outside but I have lots of rags and pet stain and odor cleaner at the ready. Jake is very smell sensitive and notices odors more than I do. There are so many good things happening that I am ecstatic about.
Barbara It's quite possible that with Bodhi's history he is more afraid of men and Jake is more forceful than I am so Jake has had to be careful to be more gentle and quiet and encouraging. This morning Jake walked both dogs on leashes out into the big field while I stayed in the house and fixed their breakfast.
We concluded that while Bessie cannot sleep the whole night without a potty break, Bodhi doesn't need one and is frightened at being awakened and taken out into the dark so last night at midnight I got up by the light of only my phone and took Bessie out leaving Bodhi in his kennel. When I came in, I gave Bessie her treats under the table as usual and slipped Bodhi's treats into the kennel. He found them immediately and then we all went back to sleep.
Another thing I love about this thread is how many of you are interested in sharing about pets so it's a safe place for me to prattle on about my pets. Since Sasha, the poodle, and Bernie, the cat, died last summer, it has been very quiet here. Bessie lies in her bed a lot and wants to go only short walks. It's a lot busier here now. Bessie is more active with Bodhi encouraging her.
Allie, I love hearing how much you are enjoying your cruise in spite of your ankles and your mobility challenges. It is quite likely that even though you are being careful about salt, that everything they cook has way more sodium than you would use at home. Keep have fun and keep sending pictures.

I have told him that at some time we will talk about it. I think he needs to know the magnitude of his actions, and his importance in our family unit. How his actions affected us all, but that's a discussion face to face with calm, yet loving tones.

Well my interview yesterday was a no call/no show. I have another one today at 10am. Just don't understand why you would make the appointment and not show. A call would of been nice.
Lanette--Your doctor sounds like a great fit for you. Happy for you. Sounds like your girls were good even is you left the gate open. They know they have it good with you.
Kylia--Sorry DH did not realize you were ill. I pray your time away will help you regroup.
Tracey--Great news on your grades. You ROCK! Sounds like your trip is just want you needed. Sorry about getting over heated, but glad you are okay.
We are going to the State Fair this evening to see 3 Dog Night. Granddaughter is taking and picking us up so we do not have to deal with parking. Looking forward to a nice relaxing evening.

My biggest take away from all that I've heard and read about minimalism is about intentional living. I shopped and acquired stuff for years with no real plan. That led to the need to sort, organize, and discard. I acquired hobbies and activities because other people said they were good things to do until I my days were overrun with stuff to do. Today it is important to me to know what I have and where it is, to use my time with people and activities that are important to me and say no to the ones that aren't. I have things that are important to me and do things that are important.

Thanks @barbiecat for this post and for your discussion group. I’m new to this MFP community stuff. I like the idea of your group and the posts I see here. Does this just continue each month? I just found this a few days ago and would like to continue with this group into September. Thanks

Tracey I am with you in that we should get paid when they’re aren’t any paid employees working. We certainly are responsible for a lot more than they think!
More bad health news for me. I went for an eye check up, haven’t been since before Covid, and found out I need a cataract surgery. I’m not worried about that, but the surgical clinic that does it is 3 hrs (175 miles) away and I will need to go 3 times and possible stay overnight to get both eyes done. I knew my eyes were getting worse but didn’t realize it was cataracts! My right eye is half covered, the left about 1/4 so I will get both done as they say they don’t come back. DH is not happy about the driving. My new neighbor, an assistant host, will go with me for the first one as that is only the pre-op, then IDK, if DH still doesn’t want to do the drive, I may ask her to go with me for all 3 visits.
Oh, well, I asked my DH what will fall off of me next! LOL. He answered when there is nothing left they can remove it will stop! LMAO.

1. Set an intention to be kind to others (and yourself) this month. I plan to be kind to people I meet and to myself. Not just this month but all the time. It may not be every time, but I will try.
2. Send an uplifting message to someone you can’t be with. I will text my best friend who lives in Michigan, and my friend that lives in NY. Did this
3. Be kind and supportive to everyone you interact with. I did this!
4. Ask someone how they feel and really listen to their reply. I plan to try to remember to do this. Done!
5. Spend time wishing for other people to be happy and well. Will meditate and do this through a loving-kindness meditation.
6. Smile and be friendly to the people you see today. Will do!
7. Give time to help a project or cause you care about. I volunteer at Bottomless Lakes State park and also belong to the ‘Friends of’ group and am on the board as secretary. Does this count?
8. Make some tasty food for someone who will appreciate it. My DH does all the cooking. Perhaps i will look for something KETO to cook. Otherwise, we give food to our co-host often.
9. Thank someone you’re grateful to and tell them why. I will!
10. Check in with someone who may be lonely or feeling anxious. Checked in with my son.
11. Share an encouraging news story to inspire others. Did this at ER when the diagnosis was given.
12. Contact a friend to let them know you’re thinking of them. Did this yesterday and will do again today.
13. No plans day! Be kind to yourself so you can be kind to others too. I need the rest!
14. Take an actions to be kind to nature and care for our planet. Will do! Need to de-stress!
15. If someone annoys you, be kind. Imagine how they may be feeling. I will try to put myself in the other person’s shoes. Did this again last night with a camper.
16. Make a thoughtful gift as a surprise for someone. Will have to think about this! Did not do this.
17. Be kind online. Share positive and supportive comments. Will do!
18. Today, do something to make life easier for someone else. I did try to accommodate a camper.
19. Be thankful for your food and the people who make it possible. I am.
20. Look for the good in everyone you meet today. Sometimes that is hard but I am getting better at it. Maybe not right away but after I thought about the person’s reactions and what could cause it.
21. Donate unused items, clothes, or food to help a local charity. I will have to think on this. Not planning on going to town today. Did not do this.
22. Give people the gift of your full attention. I will try.
23. Share an article, book, or podcast you find helpful. I do when I find something useful.
24. Forgive someone who hurt you in the past. This one is hard. I will try to forgive my father.
25. Give your time, energy, or attention to someone in need. Easy! I did that yesterday giving someone a campsite who didn’t know how to use the electronic means to reserve a site.
26. Find a way to ‘pay it forward’ or support a good cause. I subscribed to a foundation newsletter.
28. Have a friendly chat with someone you don’t know very well. I do this all the time with campers!
29. Do something kind to help in your local community.30. Give away something to those who don’t have as much as you.
31. Share Action for Happiness with other people today.

Sunk cost fallacy can be tricky to wrap your head around, and it’s not without nuance. For more clarity in these complex decision-making moments, completely disregard how much you’ve already invested so that it doesn’t hold influence. Then, look at the facts.
Are you satisfied? Have you repeatedly been met with dead ends? Is there still potential for a positive outcome if you continue investing your resources and energy? What are the benefits of walking away and opening a new door? These are the factors that should influence your decision rather than any previously sunk costs.

Lisa I thought about pool noodles, but am thinking they are not enough - he'd step over them and not even notice.... But my bed is a platform style- but the mattress drops into the box that is the platform... and in looking at how the bed "rails" attach I am not sure they would fit into the box with the mattress.
I am now wondering if pool noodles are the answer and just duct tape 3 together to make a triangle shaped bumper..... they are at our Dollar store 2 for $1.25 A cheap try!

Got through the Zoom without shouting! P was a bit tearful because the BIL and the crazy wife are selling up and leaving their little expat community in France. She thinks it is their last summer.
I had put on my serenity bracelet beforehand, and fingered it most of the time. It was a great help.
We have agreed with DDIL to do our normal pick up of Bea next Tuesday. It was a cricket day, but DH doesn't want to go every day. It's a long journey. Starts on Sunday for four days. We have agreed to have Max on Thursday next week . His school always starts later.
I am still waiting for an invitation to see the house, but I guess we will see it on Tuesday when we pick up Bea. Unless she wants us to bring her back here as we have done since the move.
Must ask. I still have the key, but I don't know if they've changed the locks!
I still haven't done the framing for my son's painting. Tomorrow!

Worked then went to the church to count the donations. Cloudy so I’ll go for a walk in a few and then maybe pull some weeds in the backyard. We’re going to put these blocks around the outside fence for the pool and I need to get rid of some of the weeds first.
Sue – jigsaw puzzles CAN be addicting. I get addicted to them, then have to give myself a break, and then I go back to them. Good luck at the MD
Anne DE – wonderful! Love how you get back in the saddle
Kylia – Happy Anniversary
Kim – you might also want to check into stairs for Levi so he can get up on the bed.
Vicki – maybe it was a blessing in disguise that that person didn’t show. If they won’t even call to say they won’t be at the appt. they made, what kind of employee will they be??
Daria – at the end of the month, Barbie will post a link to a new thread for the next month. We’re so glad to have you
Rita – I’m not sure they’ll do both eyes at the same time. I know when Vince had his done, they did one and then 2 weeks later the other one.
Kim – wouldn’t you have to somehow anchor the “rail” to under the mattress so that they don’t fall off the bed? Something like this (only longer)
pg 71https://www.amazon.com/Vive-Compact-Bed-Rail-Silver/dp/B07NWWWKNJ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=SWGIPQZ6OSLS&keywords=bed+rails+for+elderly+adults&qid=1693333
See how it has the thing under the mattress to hold it in place?

Vicki - have fun at the fair. Great that your wonderful granddaughter will be the driver. Three Dog Night - they were the first "rock band" I ever saw! I wonder how many of the original band members are still there. Mama told me not to come... They had a lot of neat songs! Rock on. I'd probably throw something out of whack, lol.
Pity that you had a no-show for the interview. Things come up but I agree, at least call!
Lisa - Are you and Corey worn out from having visitors? Is Egg glad to have her house back? So glad you got to meet Soraya. Hope their plans work out to move closer and train for jobs they'll like. Good job getting mowing done.
Kim - you are the best Mom Levi could ever have. When our dogs were little and we were afraid they'd roll out of bed, we'd put a kitchen chair, facing outward, against the bed as a stopper. They were small enough they didn't have enough weight to push the chair away if they leaned against it. I know you'll find a solution for him. He's been such a great pal and friend. The pool noodles might just work! Crossing fingers!
Kylia - sorry to hear about your bad day, you have so much going on. Happy Anniversary!
Michele - I love reading about your walks and the stores you can walk to. It seems like you are in a subdivision like me but still have decent stores you don't have to drive to. I have a convenience store about 1/4 mile away, but no sidewalks and the main road gets pretty busy at times, county dumptrucks and such. Anyhow, all that walking keeps you in great shape!
Barbie - what a nice photo of Bessie and Bodhi laying together. Sounds like he is making progress. There are days I think if I were ever to replace Rosie, it would be nice to get an older dog v. going thru the puppy stage again. They both have plusses and minuses I think.
My next door neighbor,92, "rescued" an older Shih Tsu from a puppy mill, she had always lived in a crate or kennel and did nothing but have puppies. Knew nothing about being housetrained, or basic commands. She wasn't used to human contact like sitting on a lap to be petted. It took him a few months, but he got her trained just perfectly and she's his best buddy. He has told me repeatedly they rescued each other - his prior dog which he and his now deceased wife raised from a pup - had a heart attack and died in front of him. He was so forlorn. He named this new dog Honey, and she is. I think she keeps him going.
Rebecca - glad the pest control guy made it out and has set traps. Varmints in the walls and under the house are scary. Never mind the droppings, chewing wires and messing with the insulation is potentially hazardous and just a blamed nuisance. So glad Owain has reconnected. Hopefully when he's ready, he'll want to talk about it. Maybe not.
Daria - welcome, we are super active here on most days, as you've noticed, lol.
Joy - what a nice surprise indeed finding those plums. So glad Lucy continues to bring you "joy". She picked the right Mom!
Barbara - glad to hear your Goddaughter's place came through OK other than ash. What a blessing. We have a lot of lightning-caused fires burning in our county right now - had some storms come through yesterday - but they are small and we have cool rainy weather which will keep them contained. The warnings from the DNR & Forest service are telling people to keep away so the lanes are clear for fire fighters and DRONES are forbidden - planes and helicopters are flying buckets of water and fire retardant and getting tangled in a drone would be bad news. DH always said if he saw one hovering in the back yard, he'd use it for target practice. Probably not the first to have that idea.
Debbie - your cashew chicken sounds wonderful. Question. Was your MIL always a pill or has she gotten worse in the recent years? Reason is - has she been diagnosed with any form of dementia? I was thinking about her behavior with saying she'll eat this and that you make then changing her mind. My DH was like that during the last year of his life. Is she losing weight? Any progress on moving her into a residence of some type?
Rita - it will be good to have both eyes done. Around here, seems most folks put a week between the surgeries. But I have heard of them doing both at the same time. The drive does seem daunting, good you have the assistant host willing to be the driver. And good job with the pond rescue. I wouldn't have been brave enough to climb on that thing.
Allie - when do you get back from the cruise? I see there's a hurricane forming on the gulf side of Florida, hope it doesn't mess with your vacation. Sorry your mobility is somewhat limited but still, it's a good getaway and I'll be you are meeting some nice people. Loving the ocean pictures, sorry it's was so wicked hot!
Heather - glad you made it through the Zoom and kept your cool. I'm anxious to hear about progress on the house!
Margaret - great photo, you have such a lovely complexion and gorgeous hair! Scandinavian heritage? I have a hat very similar to yours. Glad you got to see the exhibits that were at the top of your list. And the hat photos you posted a day or two ago were interesting.
Tracey - sorry you got overheated, glad you are OK now. Good job aceing those tests - we knew you would. Those photos are amazing, they look similar, I think, to the Badlands in S. Dakota. Never been there but would love to travel in that part of the world. If it's not too hot or cold, lol. Sounds like a teleporter trip.
Ok ladies, I've been at this for a few hours now (took a lunch and chicken visit break).
Collette my cleaner came this morning. Rosie and I normally go in the office and let her do her thing with the door closed. I decided to write a long letter to a friend I haven't seen in years, fill her in on DH's death last year, what I'm up to now, etc.
When Collette was finished, she tapped on the door and said the strangest thing happened when she was vacuuming in the back room. She said she smelled cigarette smoke, just like DH used to smell. Once in a while, I smell it too. I told her about that time she smelled it, I was writing to my friend about him. I have given away or at least thoroughly washed his jackets and clothing he used to wear, so????
We both got the shivers. It actually kind of gave me a good feeling.

Machka- no idea. Hysterectomy at 28. Hormones since late 40s. Everytime I go off them I get debilitating migraines. Had/have endometriosis and cysts. Assuming at 601/2 yo, that I would be done with that nonsense, but estradiol may be keeping me there. Just can't handle worse migraines. Actually, yes, I feel like I did when I was 11 and had no clue what my body was doing. Migraines, cramps, D, witchy to the max
Cindy Pensacola
Just went off Estradiol. Taking since 39 yo. Having hot flashes but not intolerable. Have h/a but think weather related.
Hope it gets better for you.3 -
Kim, Thinking of you and Levi.Barbara Thank you for what you said about patience. I read it to Jake and he said it helped and asked me to tell you
It is one minute at a time here. There are moments when he is the most delightful puppy and moments that we want to call the shelter and send him back. He can walk on a leash but not for long. He doesn't seem to be clear about "doing business" outdoors instead of in the house. He seems to be afraid of the dark, so we're considering different approaches.
This is a great place to vent and a great place to feel supported. Sometimes I just read and feel your love and support.

He is the cutest. My son and daughter in love foster for Schnauzer rescue in Ft. Walton Beach Florida. I get attached even though I'm not there 24/7. Sometimes it's for 2wks or even as long as a year. Very special to foster animals. I know it's hard. Keep up the good work.

Pleased for you, Annie - not sure why it's so hard to re-start a program, but it seems like it is. Perhaps because we know there's a lot of work involved? It's always been harder, to me, to get started after a break than to begin the program in the first place. One day is the beginning of a streak...Well done!
Love,
Lisa in AR
Very proud of you starting back. I agree that it's harder to restart.0 -
Lanette asked: Lisa - Are you and Corey worn out from having visitors? Is Egg glad to have her house back? So glad you got to meet Soraya. Hope their plans work out to move closer and train for jobs they'll like. Good job getting mowing done.
Lanette - I've taken a nap for the last three days in a row, two of the days they were here and now they've gone, so I suspect the answer is "Yes, people wear me out," whether I want to admit or not!
Regarding the cat, night before last, Egg must have been looking in the window, because the second John & Soraya headed for bed, she showed up in the bathroom, where Corey was in the tub and I was changing into my PJs, and insisted it was time for a snack at the top of her little kitty lungs.
We were totally shocked then, last night, when she came inside before they went to bed (did she know it was their last night here? I wouldn't put it past her). She not only allowed Johnny to pet her, she insisted that he do so. Utterly uninterested in Soraya, just ignored her like she wasn't even there. Weird little cranky cat.
Later,
Love,

Cindy we are fostering Bodhi in anticipation of adopting him. I don't think I could foster as a regular practice
Lisa cats are so interesting. I miss having one

Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE
Wow 3 Dog Night. Haven't heard that group in ages. Sounds like fun. KC & the Sunshine Band were here in Pensacola last weekend. Glad you went.3 -
Rebecca - very smart going off antidepressants slowly. Hope your critters are gone for good!
Lisa-thanks for the foot tips. I wear custom orthotics. I just ordered a house slipper with some support to stop walking barefoot (I like enclosed heels, no flopping when I walk due to hips). Stretches last couple of days had me sore. Took steroids this morning, inflammation may be settling, too soon to tell. Am going to go for short walk here in a bit since I didn't make it this am.
Machka-not certain I have that sort of toe dexterity any more! I do have a foot roller I use and have order a half foam for some foot/ankle exercises.
Allie-great ocean pics. Keep an eye on that swelling-if it gets worse check with doctor on ship.
Kylia-have they had you on antibiotics for sores before this? Maybe this will knock it out. And I think your husband wishing you Happy Anniversary when he woke up is sweet (even if annoying).
Kim-I hope you are able to keep Levi calm. He sounds like such a sweet dog. A toddler bed rail guard should do the trick.
Heather-sounds like you may be writing about your essence.
Rita-I also thought they only did one eye at a time-maybe because of the distance they do one one day and one the next. Cataract surgery has come a very long way. I have heard some people's vision really improves.
Lanette-I don't question such things. They don't happen often-sometimes they just let us know they check in (that's what I think).
Made it through my two meetings today. One, which was a teams meeting, I started listening to on my phone because I had trouble logging in. Logged out of Teams on computer and got into meeting so I could watch slide show. I said nothing during the meeting, just enjoyed listening and learning from others. Afternoon meeting I needed to talk more due to topic, but other's comments were also very interesting. Good meeting day.
My lazy cats are on the rug in living room laying in the patch of late afternoon sunlight. They are actually fairly close to each other, less than two feet.
Outside temp is 77 with very tolerable humidity. Last night when I went to store there was that edge of fall in the air. Going for short walk to see how foot is.
Take care all,

I’ve had better days.1-This morning the Roomba wouldn’t connect, seems the battery died. Would have expected it to last more than 9 months. New battery $129.95 ordered, won’t get here for 3-5 biz, guess I’ll have to get out the Dyson stick. Have I told you lately how much I loathe vacuuming?Today’s gratitude: I had one this morning, honest! But it’s gone right out from my head.
2-DDS is going to try to save one of the anchor teeth under the bridge by slicing off a bit of the gum so he can access the decay ($485). If it goes up under the crown, then I have to go to the specialist in Grants Pass ($?) to cut the bridge off at both ends, pull the bad tooth ($?), learn if there is enough bone for implants ($10,000 plus). If not, DDS might try to build another long span bridge ($6K plus) or ???
3-The same Grants pass specialist can evaluate the 5 or so pockets that or 5-6mm deep and recommend next steps ($?).
4- a bright spot, I got the last six pack of Skeleton mix violas. Told the garden guy who helped me find them “Thank you. I am sooo happy!!!”
5-Joe showed me that hot water knob isn’t stripped in the handle but within the shower’s pipe. Need to call a plumber.
6- Went to desk to look for a plumber and spilled my iced tea over the desk, laptop, router etc. Managed to boot and backup, but put a call into my pc guy. Guess a new laptop is in my future.
Later, lighter, lovelies!
