I did twenty reps, so half what I was doing a month ago. Plus thirty minutes on my bike. So still making my way back. Thanks for the encouragement, my friends!
My mom lost a tooth. I researched and found it was probably either gum disease or malnutrition. She puts the food I cook on her plate but doesn't eat it, and says her mouth is sore. She refuses to see a dentist, and she won't take any input on her diet either. This morning she put spoonfuls of sugar on her toast, then barely touched it. She said she has lost fifteen pounds. So I am feeling powerless to stop her decline. She is cheerful and free of pain(except her teeth) so that's as much as we can hope for. She is ninety, and I hope I am
doing that well at ninety. My goal is not for her to live forever, although I forget that sometimes.
My dad is still struggling with his computer and his online bill payment. His foot seems to be okay, he was out doing yardwork today.
So things are pretty good.

She could have thrush which is easily treated with liquid oral nystatin. Liquid Benadryl before a meal over the counter (otc) 10ml swish and spit would help with meal time. It's worth a try.3 -
Just work today. Since the mgr is on vacation, the asst. mgr asked me to work since it seems she does my job on wednesday. It has something to do with this “labor” thing. I swear, if I live to be 100 I’ll never be able to wrap my mind around that concept. I still can’t for the life of me understand how it’s more profitable to have someone who makes, say, $40 an hour do the job of someone who makes, say, $10 an hour. At the end of the day, your salary expense is $30 higher. But it’s not for me to figure out.
There is a fair that will go on this weekend. Vince is doing something with his train group. I’ll probably go on Fri after the soup kitchen since that’s senior day and I get in for ½ price...cheapskate that I am….lol
I tell ya, Jerry is starting to smell. I spoke to A who seems to oversee him and helps him, she said that he hasn’t taken a shower since he moved into his tent (which was July 1). It seems that he does wash up at BK in the bathroom, but he said that he (don’t ask me to explain this) “wants to save money” and not pay the $15 to take a shower at the truck stop. A said that she’d even take him there. The other day all I could think of was “thank goodness my work is done and I’ll be leaving so I don’t have to smell him when he’s in the backroom (there aren’t any windows that I can open)
Keeping things people give you: I prefer to get things that I need and want if someone wants to buy me something. Vince, Jess, and others will get me what they think I want. Like Jess got this matchbox thing for letting her stay at the condo. Honestly, I don’t know what we’re going to do with it. I appreciate her thought but when she first mentioned getting us something, I told her that I needed the pool noodles (I can’t find them anywhere up here, she could get them and leave them at the condo). I also mentioned that I would like flannel backed tablecloths with a “beach” theme (fish, mermaids, shells) on it. Oh well. Ken & Lynette gave us this dolphin windcatcher thing when they were down many years ago. I think when we go down in Feb. that I’m just going to donate it.

Barbie the Bodhi and Bessie pic and update. So glad Bessie is being more active. That’s what happened to Tumble when we got Shadow. Think she missed her best bud-Scooter. We all did. ;’{ Now she has a puppy to boss around.
Ginny “No need to collapse until you know what each thing is.” Thanks for the sound counsel. Laptop is surviving so far and alas, no, I am not a MacFan and am severly touch screen challenges. Truth be told, just give me a keyboard, DOS prompt and Lotus 1,2,3
Cindy brava for the Schnauzer rescue. It still hurts my heart that we had to return Gino to the shelter, but his resource guarding intensified so much that within the first week he wouldn’t let Shadow or Tumble near Joe. We heard from the shelter that he’s been months in a home with no other dogs and doing better all the time.
Lanette it’s a little odd to be thankful to smell cigarette smoke but when it’s a hint of comfort from beyond . . . ((hugs))
Michele when Vince says “we should cut the grass” does that mean you?
Heather  thanks for the perspective. The answer is Me! As long as I can afford ‘em. the final framed product. Well done!
Lisa thanks. Walking the dogs, line dancing for 90 minutes all helped me sleep soundly and wake up with a better attitude. Oh and hit 10K steps for the first time in awhile
Whoops out of time. Need to do PT like I didn’t yesterday :P

Cindy thanks for the idea! I was so preoccupied by her general decline that I didn't think about OTC treatment. I will see what she is willing to try. Thanks again!
Annie in Delaware4 -
Rebecca - very smart going off antidepressants slowly. Hope your critters are gone for good!
Lisa-thanks for the foot tips. I wear custom orthotics. I just ordered a house slipper with some support to stop walking barefoot (I like enclosed heels, no flopping when I walk due to hips). Stretches last couple of days had me sore. Took steroids this morning, inflammation may be settling, too soon to tell. Am going to go for short walk here in a bit since I didn't make it this am.
Machka-not certain I have that sort of toe dexterity any more! I do have a foot roller I use and have order a half foam for some foot/ankle exercises.
Allie-great ocean pics. Keep an eye on that swelling-if it gets worse check with doctor on ship.
Kylia-have they had you on antibiotics for sores before this? Maybe this will knock it out. And I think your husband wishing you Happy Anniversary when he woke up is sweet (even if annoying).
Kim-I hope you are able to keep Levi calm. He sounds like such a sweet dog. A toddler bed rail guard should do the trick.
Heather-sounds like you may be writing about your essence.
Rita-I also thought they only did one eye at a time-maybe because of the distance they do one one day and one the next. Cataract surgery has come a very long way. I have heard some people's vision really improves.
Lanette-I don't question such things. They don't happen often-sometimes they just let us know they check in (that's what I think).
Made it through my two meetings today. One, which was a teams meeting, I started listening to on my phone because I had trouble logging in. Logged out of Teams on computer and got into meeting so I could watch slide show. I said nothing during the meeting, just enjoyed listening and learning from others. Afternoon meeting I needed to talk more due to topic, but other's comments were also very interesting. Good meeting day.
My lazy cats are on the rug in living room laying in the patch of late afternoon sunlight. They are actually fairly close to each other, less than two feet.
Outside temp is 77 with very tolerable humidity. Last night when I went to store there was that edge of fall in the air. Going for short walk to see how foot is.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
I hope to be off them in a couple weeks as well as my sleeping aids. Just taking my blood pressure pill, calcium, vitamin, and chewable melatonin pills if necessary.

Lanette--The concert was very good. It was funny the guy sitting next to me asked where all the old folks came from, them said I guess we all are. I am not sure how many band members are original. The 2 main ones sounded like they might be. One is 76 and the other one 80. I was surprised at the ages as they did a good show and had lots of energy.
KJ--Interesting about Fern and her family. Thanks for sharing.
Was home late last evening so am dragging today. Tonight DS is bringing over their puppy to spend the weekend with us. Rocky does well with our fur babies and gets spoiled.

Barbara ... sorry about your "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day" ... hope today is better.
Kelly ... what an interesting write up for Flea and how nice of your brother to do it for her!
Lanette ... the smell of cigarette smoke ... funny what brings us comfort
Not much new to report here. I've been tasked with giving a Children's Sermon on the 10th ... have a couple of ideas floating around in my head but not really keen on any of them. Hate that. Not being able to get a solid direction for a message. Food choices have been atrocious again and I've been lax with my fasting. That needs to stop!

haha- that sounds like what happens here so often, like,
we need to put the flea treatment on the cats"- He has not even helped in I don't even know how long. Once in a while my son helps me, when I ask, otherwise, I am the one that does all the ones I can. One is iffy if he will come near me, his sister won't right now.One isn't getting treatments because of his seizures(heard some of the meds may cause them so don't want to chance it)
Ordered peppermint oil to spray around and mix up a solution to put on him and the ones that got treatment but still have some fleas.
So many things he says "we" but he is no where to be found when it is time to do them3 -
Took a tour on Tortola today did some walking but not much and am laying down with my feet up until dinner time.
tu
My foot is turning black and blue where I ran it over..and can't find my compression socks anywhere.
So just trying to rest them..but having a fun time with my friends.

Heather: I think the painting would look great in your son's kitchen!
Grandmallie: My husband used a scooter for a year. He enjoyed the scooter. I hope the swelling in your ankles gets some better.
Lisa: Glad you had a good visit with your son and his girlfriend.
MargaretTurk: I love your purple t-shirt
Joy: Great you have plums again
Kymarai: I hope you have a good vacation
Kim: I feel so sorry for Levi. I hope he will be able to sleep on your bed again.
Daria: Welcome. I have been part of this group a year now. Many in the group have been together for years and years.
Lanette: Wonderful that you and Collette experienced the cigarette smoke. A great connection to your husband!
I stayed inside today because of the storm and potential winds. But the storm never really reached my area. We had a lite rain throughout the day. I am enjoying the US Open Tennis in New York in the evenings. I have added a streaming company to my Amazon Cube so I can watch the tennis, GA Football and the Braves this Fall. I'll probably cancel it again after Christmas. I have started to watch the last Raiders of the Lost Arc movie. It is good, but it is 3 hours long. I will watch it in segments!

Lynette called and I told her that we’re going to the night concert for TSO in Greensboro. Seems that Ken is going to go for cataract surgery two days before. We usually go every year. Greensboro is closer for Jess too. It’s about an hour for each of us. They aren’t going to go.
I mentioned to Vince that the Sat. before the concert after I get off work, maybe we should go to Jess’, spend the night with her, and then go to the concert Sun. night. I know he wants to go to their Meet & Greet after the concert and Lynette and Ken wouldn’t want to so maybe them not going is a blessing in disguise
Sent an email to the City of Hickory asking when ceramics will be opened. I understand they hired someone a few weeks ago, but to my knowledge it still isn’t open. Honestly, I (and others) feel they couldn’t have made a worse choice. I bet they hired this one gal because she pours and fires the bisque. But she also is a real talker, takes lots of trips, seems to have so many health issues. Well, we shall see.
Barbara – when we cut the grass, Vince usually uses the riding mower and I use the walk behind and the weedwacker (except for one part that Vince does). I also sweep the sidewalks. I honestly don’t mind it, I get my steps in, that’s for sure….lol
Deb – I’m lucky, when Vince says “we” he always means the two of us. Admitted, many times his OCD kicks in, so he might wind up doing more than I do. But that’s his choice. Sometimes, tho, I do feel that I have to push him to do things. Once he starts, he’s OK. Like he wanted to put this border on top of our slope (to keep the rainwater from not washing the mulch away). It was me who said “let’s go buy the border so that we have it when we need it”. If I left it to him, he would wait until the last minute to do things.
Allie – wish you could find those stockings. Hope your legs get better. Enjoy the cruise, I’m enjoying it vicariously with you
Vince went to the fair to work with the train group and I worked on the jigsaw puzzle. Oh, this afternoon walked around the neighborhood then went and got a prescription for Loki and to the Salvation Army. Got a pair of shorts, a DVD (yes, Barbara, they do exist….lol), and a few more jigsaw puzzles (not like I needed them, but they weren't opened so how could I resist? Vince did say that the fair was very interesting and that I would like it. Maybe we’ll go Fri. night (assuming it isn’t raining) and see the fireworks at night, too.

Morning, afternoon and/or evening, as the case may be,
Life in the country or... this morning's excitement:Trying to get my adrenaline down... got up an hour or two earlier than usual, and of course, it's full dark outside at 3:30am. I was putting together an iced coffee in the kitchen, when Egg came running through from wherever she had been asleep and was peering through her little plexiglass kitty door. It was locked, but she didn't seem to want to get out, she was just agitated. So I walked over and flipped on the light, and there were too big old raccoons wandering around our little backyard patio area. Probably three times Egg's size and Egg is not small.
They completely ignored the light coming on, and continued exploring the plants and the area, so I smacked my hand on the metal door a couple times to try to surprise 'em. They didn't even flinch. Then the one started climbing the old phone pole, ten feet from the house, where I have a suet feeder hung up on one side and started yanking on the suet cage.
I grabbed the BB gun and got it cocked, yanked open the door and popped the one on the post in the butt. Not trying to kill or even injure it, just get it to believe this place is not a good place to be... the entire time, the slightly smaller one that was about six feet from me is just kind of staring at me, interested in what I'm doing until that percussion startled it.
The bigger one bailed off the pole, and joined it, and one of them was growly/grunting, so I cocked the gun again and sent a bb in their direction, and they started moving faster. A third pop finally got them to head out.
Had Egg not alerted me to their presence, I'm not sure I would have heard them - the katydids are sounding off like someone's buzzy alarm forever going off in the distance, and we've got windows open all over the house to get the cooler night air in. Good kitty!
Pretty sure, too, that it was the big male that was up on that pole. It could have figured out that suet cage in seconds, and was pretty Arnold Schwarzeneggery, so strong enough to easily yank it down. Wonder if that's what the growly/grunt was? "I'll be back..." in raccoon?
So, thus endeth (one hopes) the excitement for today... whew!
Started off yesterday morning with a short yoga session to get things stretched out a bit, then relaxed after getting all the chores done. Added a short nap in the afternoon, and I think I finally caught up on my exhaustion levels. I woke up this morning with my brain in full design mode, with the decision made (not sure who made it ) to try making a couple of couch pillow-cover-sized miniature versions of the bookcase quilt I'll be building.
I need new pillow covers anyway, and it will give me the chance to try out a number of design elements in a small space that are new to me, such as appliqué and paper piecing. Also want to try some fabric paints and possibly some inkjet printing of old photographs, and figure out how to include them in a 3D spatial design. Easier in a small area than learning on the fly in the larger materials when I'm making the quilt. Maybe. If it gets too fiddly, I'll just go to the bigger version.
As we hit this last day of August, I'm one pound higher than I want to be on my maintenance range, at 150.8 pounds, as my range is to 145-150, but I do know that I was craving salt yesterday, so may well be up a pound or two from water. I'll keep an eye on it. Really pleased that I've stabilized in this range, and do not want to gain again.
For those who are new, keep your eye out here for the link Barbie will post later today to our new September thread, so we can start the month with a clean slate, and support each other as the year goes on. Don't forget to bookmark it!
Later y'all,
Love,

Off my balcony at 5:45 this morning.9 -
Lisa - love the racoon story . We have similar problems with foxes. They are now very urban critters. And unafraid of people.
Edie has asked if she can come over soon. Suggested today! Hooray! She's coming at 1.30.
They start back at school next Tuesday and we have Bea pick up and Max that week. I expect she was feeling a bit short changed!
Very, very happy to see her.
This morning I was listening to more decluttering podcasts, and managed to get a duvet into a box for storage, clean and completely reframe a poster, and throw out some old washing bags, and kids' CD's. Also found a nice makeup bag for conditioner tubes. Lovely!
I still managed to put my face on for Edie and then wrenched 250 new words out of my brain for my book. Proud of myself. Still watching podcasts.
Ginny - I've found a new word I like.
'Interbeing'.
Going to make my funny soup for lunch for myself. DH will have a sandwich.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Lisa: An eventful early morning with the raccoons! The BB gun sure came in handy!
Allie: Interesting picture of the ocean. I am glad you are enjoying the cruise.
Good Morning: I was up before the alarm at 6 am and went to Dunkin for avocado toast and an ice coffee. I plan to order some avocados in a few minutes with the groceries and pick them up this afternoon. I have lunch plans and there is a concert at the University tonight. Maybe I will go.
My first knitting project is a small dish towel with a reindeer on it. There were suppose to be 35 stitches on the needle and I now have over 50. My plan is to finish the pattern the best I can. I have already ordered more yarn and will do the pattern again and really try to determine how I am adding stitches.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia7 -

Rosemary, count your stitches at the end of every row and pay special attention to the last stitch and notice how it looks because it seems to have an extra loop which no doubt you knit thus adding a stitch. A YouTube beginning knitting video might show you this phenomenon. I wish I were closer so I could help you Once you see the weird extra loop, it is easy to make sure you don't get fooled.
Lisa, My parents fed dry dog food to raccoons on their deck. They enjoyed it. After my mother died and we moved into her house we didn't get rid of them until we had the deck torn down and replaced (it was needed for safety) and then the neighbors at the bottom of the hill called and said the raccoons were coming to their house.
Barbara, That was truly a bad day. It's hard to remember that "This too shall pass".
It is crazy town here with all energy devoted to dog civilizing. It is two steps forward, one step back. There are moments of joy and delight and moments of extreme frustration. We are creating new routines with Jake taking the lead in the early morning dog walk and all four of us spending time in the back yard several times a day. It has been an opportunity for spiritual growth for all four of us.
Yesterday morning on our walk we met a woman who moved to the neighborhood three days ago with a Standard Poodle that she got through Pet Finder five days ago. That sounded like a recipe for stress but she seemed quite calm about it.

Barbie you bring back memories of potty training Teddy thirteen years ago. I took him out before and after every meal and nap for maybe three months, and then less often as he grew. I spent so much time observing my yard! I got used to taking work breaks. He got a cookie for every time he squatted outside. It's an investment of time, but so worthwhile in the end.
Rosemarie good luck with your knitting. Like anything else, it takes some time to learn. Some yarns are tricky and easy to split one loop into two. You will figure it out, and you have lots of enjoyment ahead! So glad the bulk of the storm missed you.
Cindy in Pensacola, you must have gotten a huge rain, at least. How did you do during Idalia?
Lisa I had a friend who wanted to discourage Canada geese from her yard. She used a slingshot and peanut M&Ms, because they are biodegradable.
I threw a rock at a deer once because it was driving the dogs crazy. I missed by a mile, of course. It gave me a dirty look and moved along. Mostly I just look at the wildlife through thick windows.
One of the stupidest things I ever did was on a remote place in Canada. For entertainment, we were told to go to the dump, slam the car doors three times and the bears would come. A mama and her cubs came and we threw them cookies. When they got a little closer, we were able to get in the car and leave. Good thing that was before selfies.
Anyway, have a lovely day, y'all!

Just found this thread and so glad. I turned 55 in August. Trying to drop weight I have picked up through the years. This app is helping me so much. Down 10 lbs in 6 weeks. I’m from North Carolina in Rowan County ❤️10

I am enjoying my hummingbirds & am happy every time I see them. They frequently chase another hummingbird away from the feeder, and once in awhile two or three will land on the perches and drink the sugar-water. 💖

Yesterday I got busy and actually turned on the vacuum, upturned furniture and cleaned like a mother! Its was 2 hrs of hard cleaning, including spraying an area (in front of the couch where husband likes to have 80% of his meals). It was his birthday, so that was my gift to him, a clean livingroom, ha! He had bought himself a handful of games, then printing them etc, so I did not feel bad not wrapping anything up. I had made roast, with all the trimmings the day before, so he had that but in French dip form for his birthday meal. He did not want cake or tapioca or anything sweet though. He is so disciplined that way. I am proud of him though.
I even made a gnome area on my phone table.😁
Can't wait until mid September, because daughter in law will have baby by then.💖
