NOVEMBER 2023 Monthly Running Challenge

Another 7 miler today but I had a lot more strength for some reason. I like the New Balance but the Nike really do give me more spring to my stride. It was warmer at about 60 but it was also cloudy and humid. Nice to run in shorts and t after a week of colder weather. I wasn't really planning a longer run today but when I decided about mile 4 to do a 10K I thought well why not just round up to 7. Stupid brain is going to be the running death of me.
Anyway - goal of 100 miles. 24 to date.7 -
1 Nov - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
2 Nov - Walked 1.30 miles - Ran 3.00 miles - treadmill - Short intervals
3 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 3.50 miles - out the road - just ran
4 Nov - Walked 1.20 miles - Ran 2.80 miles - out the road
14.8/80 miles
I had planned on a long run, once I got myself out the door. I did try to keep my HR under 140 bpm, and was pretty close. But that meant slowing down and walking more. I was doing okay until about 1.5 miles into the run. My tummy started feeling like I was going to have to make a potty break soon! I stopped a couple of minutes and it settled some. So, I went on a little further out the road, but decided to turn around and run closer to home, just in case. Good thing I did, because it hit again at a little over 2 miles. Again, I stopped and then decided it would be prudent to head home. I ran some of that, but the jarring was too much, so called it quits on the run at 2.8 miles. I walked the rest of the way home - up a hill and my driveway. I did make it without a lot of time to spare. I went back out and finished a walk on the driveway to get to a total of 4 miles for the day. The running portion was 36:54 min and 2.8 miles. Avg pace was 13:11 min/mile. Not horrible. Avg HR was 136 with a max of 145 bpm.6 -
Nice 10 mile run @Scott6255 !
Looking good @martaindale ! Sounds like you and DH did great and had a good time. How long is tomorrow's race?
@Mari33a You are doing great. Some months are just hard and we have to do what we can manage.
Beautiful sunrise @AlphaHowls ! Great running, as always.
That was a lot of work @polskagirl01 ! I hope the green ones will ripen. You'll have to keep us updated.
You are doing great @SummerSkier !

November is the last Streaker Challenge for Run the Year, so I got out today and ran 2 miles. It was nice. It was about 9:00 am when I ran, and 57Β°F. It was nice to wear shorts and a t-shirt. I hope it will be nice again in the morning for my long run.

Morning everyone.
No rain today! Yay!!
Got in 5.10M (09"37).
Happy Sunday all
PS: @chris_in_cal all hail ASICS π9 -
I'll join! I used to be pretty active in this group and then sort of fell off social media, lol.
I'm just beginning training for my first marathon! It's in February, and I'll be 22/23 weeks pregnant, so wish me luck, and send me all the positive vibes and advice!
My goal for this month is going to be 30 miles.
Side note, does anyone have any suggestions on legging brands that are comfortable, not too hot, stay in place, and are bump friendly??9 -
November miles thus far:
11/1 2
11/2 2.55
11/4 rest day
11/5 3
7.55/45 miles

Welcome back @brittanystebbins95 and congrats on the bump!3

Nov total: 30/117 miles
11/1: 7.1 miles
11/3: 3.1 miles - W&D 5k
11/4: 6.4 miles - W&D 10k
11/5: 13.4 miles - W&D HM
Last race morning of this event. I felt a lot better this morning after kind of dragging all day yesterday. I treated this like a supported training run and enjoyed looking at the scenery and all the cool costumes. When I got within the last few miles, I was feeling strong so I slowly increased the pace for a fast finish.
My costume today was Sorcerer Mickey. I was really happy with how it turned out. My husband isn't the best photographer and I didn't want to hold up a line, so this was the best shot I have of this costume. As course photos come in, I'll see if I can find one that shows it better.
We grabbed breakfast at the resort afterwards and will hang out in the room for a bit until our lunch reservation then chill a bit more before the party tonight. The after party is always fun and it's so neat to have all the runners together and celebrating at the end of the weekend.

Hi @brittanystebbins95 π0
-
You really love those Disney challenges @martaindale! Costume looks great. Congrats on completing all 3 races!
Welcome back @brittanystebbins95 and that's great you will be bringing a new member into our group π Sorry I have no suggestions for baby bump leggings π6 -

Okay here's what you want to do with leggings when having a bump...nah. I'm a newish member of the thread who is on constant vigil for stray Mansplaining.
I'm glad you are familiar with all this, and are back giving a go. Good luck with the training plan and I look forward to seeing you around.

@SummerSkier - my favorite sleeves were from Asics. The were lightly lined in a fleece and had a silicone strip around the top edge. They weren't extremely tight and never slipped down. Sadly I lost one on a run when I took them off like @kgirlhart and I have never found any similar.
@AlphaHowls - I see you are back to getting in your distance runs again! So happy you are pain free and able to get right back at it! Happy 6 weeks to Baby Dash too! Does mom run with the baby?
@quilteryoyo - hope you feel better today!
@martainsdale - what a great weekend of racing and fun! Love all the costumes!
@polskagirl01 - I am kind of sad to see the Squash Army leave! I hope the last ones ripen up on their own so you can enjoy them.
Welcome back @brittanystebbins95! I don't know specifically about their bump leggings but I love Senita (www.senita.com) leggings. They aren't too expensive, are women owned business and have a baby bump line. I think the entire site is 20% off right now too.
I have gotten in 2 good walks the last couple days and will do some strength work today. Also I went ahead and signed up for Run the Year. Haven't set up my profile and goal yet but there is plenty of time for that and hopefully others will want to form a team.
With all the shoe porn here I am really wanting a new pair. Do I need a new pair, no... well the shoes I am using for my walks now have over 500 miles on them, so maybe and Topo Athletics has a new model of them out (yes I had to go look). Instead I have promised myself a new pair in January when my treatments are done and I can consider running again.
Anyone following the NYC Marathon? I was excited to see that Hellin Obiri (Boston women's winner) has won the women's race today! I have a few friends running and I am tracking them as well!7 -

Thank you!
E has done some little distances with him and Suzy (almost 3). A and I bought a jogging stroller so she can get back to us. Hopefully, spring he will be out with us at times.
B3 Band workout this morning, run and walk. Really trying to identify this muscle fatigue I am supposed to feel while using them. I feel where it works the muscle, but as soon as they come off I am back to bouncing off walls.
11/1 14.43 miles
11/2 13.6 miles, Running Partner A, 22Β°F COLD!
11/2 1.05 miles, after B3 bands with A
11/3 13.49 miles
11/4 14.5 miles, Running Partner E! Baby Dash is 6 weeks tomorrow!
11/5 14.25 miles, County Line and back
11/5 1.5 miles, B3 bands
I really do not have words for how I feel, just joyful!
6 -
02/11 3.20 miles
04/11 3.82 miles
05/11 3.25 miles
10.27/50 miles
@martaindale Well done on all ur races. It looks like a lot of fun.
@brittanystebbins95 Welcome back to our group. And congratulations on ur bump.4 -
DO yall realize there are only 56 days left in 2023?!!!! OMG π³π³
Woke up this morning and the pain which was minor in my calf yesterday was pretty bad. I stumbled around the house and it worked out. If you have ever had a cramp it felt like what was left AFTER you finally get the cramp to stop. Maybe I need more electrolytes but I don't remember how I did it.
Anyway because yall can understand of course I put on my PUmas and decided to do a run to see how it felt. Oddly it did not hurt to run at all. (must be the shoes right?) So I did what anyone does and ran further than planned.
I DO NOT like changing the time. Either way. It really upsets my whole karma thing. I did not feel like climbing up on the kitchen counter so that clock is going to have to wait along with a few others until my motivation increases.
@martaindale all the disney races look like HUGE fun and your costumes are way too cute! π
@brittanystebbins95 Welcome. I am totally impressed that you plan to train for a marathon while carrying a bump. I wonder if there is a special plan for that?
@AlphaHowls so happy to see you feeling back to pain free again! Wonder bands for the win I guess! ππππͺ
@quilteryoyo I think all of us would be lying if we said we had never had that same situation you had. I am glad you got home. I have a few key parks with restrooms on my routes that I typically stop in for a break on my runs. You can see when my heart rate drops. LOL.
@chris_in_cal still LOL at your mansplaining comment. I thought for a minute you might be using leggings suitable for a bump before I read more closely. π³ππ€£
I was thinking about those of us with shoe issues recently. I wonder if the cold weather snap might have made the cushioning less pliant?
32 miles so far out of 100 goal.

@SummerSkier In my defense, this pregnancy was entirely unplanned (failed birth control) and I had already paid my entrance fee and registered π€£
I already missed one marathon due to slacking on training from the fatigue of my last pregnancy, and I'll be damned if I let it hold me back again lol9 -
November
running goal 60 miles
Step goal 300000 steps
11/1 3.5 miles
11/2 5 miles
11/5 6 miles
Steps: 58300/300000

Morning everyone!
Got in 5.25M (09"36).
Easing back into it...
PS:
Ladies, All the π© talk! Oh my π ! Smiling though π
I'm a morning person... Pint of water; cup of coffee... Then good to go! Run right after.
Need that 1hr in the mornings.
So if for example... That La Jolla Half. Be there at 6am, for a 6.30am start. My alarm would be going off at 4am.
No way am I π©-ing in the middle of a run!8 -
@SummerSkier That's me every time with the car radio! I usually end up waiting about 5 months and then change it .
@brittanystebbins95 Planned or no, running at all while pregnant is a feat in my eyes. I know some women can do it and are still quite fast and successful. I hope that is your case! I was so immediately and utterly fatigued after becoming pregnant (3 times) that I swapped working out for napping. Which means, I unfortunately, have no pant suggestions.
@martaindale It looks like you had a really nice and active running weekend and you had such fun costumes to run in! I hope you enjoyed it! It looked like it would be pretty hard not to!
Today, I wanted to get a long run in, because I skipped my run yesterday. I decided to go for about 2hrs and got 19.1km done. My weather app told me there would be severe wind, but luckily this was not the case. There were several large gusts but nothing that really held me back or made me anxious during the forest parts. There was a light raining of leaves in the forest and the ground was covered with them.
@tarun_yadavA @quilteryoyo All this π© talk and I was about to have lunch .
So far for November 48.7/200km.4 -
@Laurz9191
Hey don't look at me! @quilteryoyo and @SummerSkier went there first with all the π© talk! LOL π
PS: well done on the long run! Saw it on Strava! π
PPS: It's 11.53 in Germany! Lunch before noon?! Tsk tsk... Lol4 -
Maybe it was the π© talk, but I had Bad GI issues this morning. Had to run back home before 1 mile. Then went back out and struggled for 4 more. Hoping it was just an anomaly and not a trend.
6 -
@tarun_yadavA ok- second breakfast then . Lunch is now after 14:15. More acceptable, I hope.
@Scott6255 Sorry to hear you had some βissuesβ too! Hope your run goes better tomorrow!3 -
Amazing as to how quickly viruses spread via technology!!
I guess that includes GI viruses now too!
Hope each of you recovered quickly5 -
Welcome back @brittanystebbins95 and congratulations on your pregnancy. I will be no help for you on the leggings though. I am sending lots of positive vibes your way.
Nice job on the HM and completing the Wine & Dine series @martaindale . You look great. Did hubby do the HM with you? I hope you enjoyed the party last night.
Thanks @shanaber . I am feeling better, but the tummy still isn't exactly right. Not sure what is going on, but it is better, so I won't complain. You are doing great with your walking and looking forward to a new pair of running shoes in Jan!!! Great way to celebrate being done with all of those treatments.
You are doing great @AlphaHowls ! With all of the running you have been doing, you may not feel as much fatigue and the "average" person would. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling "joyful". Love the photo.
@SummerSkier This year has just flown by! You are doing great with your runs. I hope you calf feels better and running isn't making it worse. I'm glad you have restrooms where you can stop when you are running. I do know most of the people who live on my running route, so if I really HAD to, I could knock on the door and use theirs, but would really hate to do that. Love your guide to the clocks.
@tarun_yadavA ! I usually wait until I "go" before heading out too. But there are days when the body just decides it has to go again unexpectedly. Thanks for throwing me and @SummerSkier under the bus!
Nice running @Laurz9191 . Looks like a lovely place for a run. At least we weren't talking about something really disgusting, like π€’
Oh no @Scott6255 ! I'm glad you made it back home, but sorry you struggled for the rest of your "run." I know how you felt. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

1 Nov - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
2 Nov - Walked 1.30 miles - Ran 3.00 miles - treadmill - Short intervals
3 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 3.50 miles - out the road - just ran
4 Nov - Walked 1.20 miles - Ran 2.80 miles - out the road
5 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill - played doubles tennis for 1.5 hours
6 Nov - Walked 1.68 miles - Ran 2.32 miles - driveway laps
19.8/80 miles
I didn't post yesterday. I didn't have much time at home. Did church, helped my Aunt with a fundraiser at her church, took a power nap, played doubles tennis and then did my rest day, keep the streak going, 1 mile walk on the treadmill.
Today, I was working on my list of what I wanted to do when daycare texted and needed me to come in to work. So, most of those things are still on my to-do list. It's no wonder I can't get things done.
After work - I got off at 3:15 - I did a run on the driveway. I decided on my "intervals" where I walk 0.3 miles for warm up, then run/walk 0.3 miles/0.15 miles until I decide to stop and walk another 0.3 miles for cool down. I used the segment button on Garmin and figured out the distances and times after the run. I think Garmin had a hard time keeping track of me. It sure wasn't because I was going to fast. I have run my driveway enough to know where the 0.3 mile point is, and today I was having to run much further up the hill before it said I had reached that point. I'm going with Garmin, but know in my heart that I actually was faster than that and probably ran further too.
My running avg pace was 12:35 min/mile. Not horrible, but really felt I was running faster. I did the last 0.2 mile intentionally faster and that little bit was at 10:35 min/mile.6 -
November Goal: 130 Miles
11/1: 6.26 miles
11/2: 6.26 miles
11/3: 3.25 miles
11/4: 2.04 miles
11/5: 10.02 miles
11/6: 3.25 miles
31.08/130 miles completed for November
I started to type up my run report yesterday, but never finished.
Yesterday, I didn't get out until 8:40, which felt like 9:40 because of the time change. It was 65Β°F, but the dew point was 55Β° and it felt pretty pleasant. I ran 10 miles. Then I came home and we worked on painting the house. I'm hoping to be done by Thanksgiving.
Today I ran 3.25 miles. It was a nice morning. It was 62Β°F with a dew point of 53Β°. It felt a little cooler than yesterday. I guess because it was dark and a little more windy. It was nice though and the sky was getting light as I finished up which I really liked.
Congratulations on your races @martaindale. I love all of your costumes.
Welcome back @brittanystebbins95 and congrats on the bump!

Morning everybody!
I got in another 5Miler this morning... well, 5.01 (at 09"42).
@quilteryoyo @SummerSkier I'm sorry - didnt mean to throw you under the bus or anything. To be honest... I'm cool with that talk. It impacts running... its a thing... especially as we get older.
though @Laurz9191 as the youngest here, and sole Millenial amongst us 'regulars' ... clearly 'triggered' by all this talk! haha.
sorry! i kid!
have a nice day everyone!5 -
November Goal: 80 miles
11/1: 3 miles
11/2: 3 miles
11/3: 4 miles
11/6: 6.2 miles
Total: 16.2/80 miles completed
I wanted to try a 10k distance, pretty much just to see if I could do it. I'm happy that I can and it was not overly difficult, but I'm a bit sore this morning from it. I'm hoping to shave some time off of it before the race in January.10
