WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR NOVEMBER 2023

Regarding the use of partner-it has become more and more common. Michele-I think it is really good that Jess feels comfortable enough to express her preference to you. That's hard for a lot of children and speaks well of your relationship and her character. With many couples living together today instead of marriage it signifies a commitment. After a certain point/age, boyfriend and girlfriend just sound awkward.
Tracey-my mother did craft shows a lot. She would make quilted Christmas skirts, hand towels, and other things. Also sold different glasses, etc. It was a lot of work. I am not certain how much money she actually made but after she retired, she and her only brother reconnected and went to them together (he sold baseball/sports cards) and it gave her socialization so it was good for her.
Barbie-glad Jake is ok. Also good to hear he will let you know when he is concerned. My husband always said nitro gave him wicked headaches.
Barbara AHMOD-well Joe just continues to be full of surprises. That is a really cool gift the two of you will enjoy. Sweet way for him to express wanting to spend more time with you.
Regarding the singer in the globe, easiest way was probably a trap door below stage. Very common. Like Machka said there are a variety of techniques.
Sue in WA-enjoy your visit with DGS and and partner.
Heather-happy anniversary.
Annie-do you have any sort of medical power of attorney (or other type) over your parents? The medical staff may not share everything with you without it. Being a home care giver is exhausting work and there will no doubt be "more jobs" for you. Unfortunately, our home health care system in this country still leaves the majority of the work for the family. Does she have a nephrologist for the kidney disease?
Last full day of work this week is today. I will be on call tomorrow afternoon but have a hair appointment and podiatrist visit. I am going to try to get podiatrist to X-ray foot (haven't had one for nearly two years). Want to confirm there is is nothing but arthritis. I am also bothered in that the followup we discussed has not occurred. They were supposed to check with me getting injections for the foot arthritis but it has to be coordinated through insurance and physical therapy-I have heard nothing. I am going to start looking for new foot doctor close to where I will be moving later next year.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

The charity shop was delighted with my dress and immediately hung it up behind the desk! I had walked a bit further to get to the more upmarket shop, so I was pleased with the reaction.
Also bought things John misses when he shops. The artisan bakery does incredible focaccia.
Forgot ice cream though. I'm addicted to affogato as a dessert in restaurants, but it's proving difficult in the small stores round here to buy posh vanilla ice cream, like Hagen Das, to make it at home. Every other flavour but ...... (I do love salted caramel though )
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
Good morning ladies,
Ginny - Luna is adorable, thanks for posting that photo. Good luck at the podiatrist today. Sounds like you've firmed up where your retirement residence will be.
Michele - you are the energizer bunny doing all of that cooking in one day. It's been hard for me to get used to calling anyone a "partner" unless it's in the business sense such as investors in legal partnership. That's what I think of first when someone uses the term. And yes, "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" when the couple is older seems awkward. "Significant other" sums it up in a way I can understand. That's what I'd probably say if I had a special guy in my life at this stage. Or maybe just "good buddy." Fascinating how language has evolved in the past 50 years, but then it probably has always been that way. I'm sure our parents and grandparents noticed the same thing.
Heather - gosh that was a beautiful dress, you looked stunning. But I understand, why keep it around. I went through the stage of giving way all my dresses and skirts several years ago. They were cute but no longer fit and just weren't comfortable because I'd have to wear panty hose. Good riddance. And gals were wearing pants everywhere, even church and weddings. I have some nice dressy tops and call it good.
Now I'm curious about reverse lunges. I looked them up. I'd have to hang on to something because of my dicey feet but I can see how they'd be helpful.
Barbara - a bench overlooking the ocean sounds wonderful. Good for Joe! Like many of our husbands, my DH also begged off going to places with me as he got older. He was perfectly fine staying home and watching TV with the dogs while I went to parties or dinners out with couple friends. The other husbands there probably were jealous and wondered how he pulled it off. Glad to hear you'll be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with your friend.
Rebecca - your sister's place is beautiful. It's good she can handle the equipment to keep it up. I'd probably just blow the leaves off the driveway once they have all fallen and call it good, lol. I still have leaves strewn all over the front yard where I blew them last week. My neighbor 2 doors down was mowing over his leaves for about half an hour yesterday, really mulching them down. It was 45F here with a stiff breeze coming out of the north so with the wind chill, it was probably around 40F. I thought - have at it, buddy. If it gets into the mid-50's again I might take the big mower out and mulch them if the soil isn't too soft, but then maybe not.
Barbie - glad Jake is OK. Yesterday after throwing Rosie's toys down the hallway for the 50th time, I thought I bet there'd be interest if I set up a small greyhound type track with a mechanical rabbit that dogs could chase to wear them out. Maybe $2 a minute, $10 minimum. Plus a little illegal betting on the side to help boost my retirement income, lol. I'd let Annie chase it for free.
Cleaner coming this morning at 9, and hour later than normal. I think she has PT for her plantar fasciitis or something. I'm slightly put out because it throws me off schedule. Then I remind myself I don't have to be anywhere so what's the big deal? And I enjoy her company so much, any time she wants to come by really is perfect.
So will close for now. Make it a good day!

Heather Happy anniversary! I love that dress! Someone will be happy to own it. When I thought of going to my HS reunion, I decided to not take DH. He agreed. He knows No one there. I might leave him at my brother's house with his wife and take my brother.
Barbie I hope Jake is better today. Good job for Annie!
Michele i called my DH my partner after the first few years of being together. Boyfriend didnt really fit after a few years. We have been together since 1994, but didn't marry until 2009.
Barbara At the Dairy shed the guys are at a table close by. Sunday night they went out to the barn to ralk cars and look at the 1929 truck that R and my DH are working on. We ladies stayed inside in the comfy living room. I too am like you. Part introvert , part extrovert. I think a lot has to do with empathy as well. I can quickly get overwhelmed by others emotions. I love Joe's gift idea and reason.
Ginny Luna is 😍! I can't believe that the Beavercreek Walmart has had another mass shooting! Such a sad state of affairs.
I have recovered from weekend. Got kitchen cleaned up. Still need to strip beds. Yesterday was an off day. Cloudy and rainy and cold. Talked to my DYD. Even if they hadn't already told me they weren't coming....they wouldn't be here this year. Son in law has tested positive for covid. Won't be baking cookies with that set of grands as DGD not interested and DGS works every weekend, I am feeling better this morning. Better get a move on. Didn't hit step goal for past few days.
Congratulations!
Healing thoughts to all!
Encouragement to keep moving in a manner right for you at the moment.

Morning, all, from the pre-dawn chill of a fall morning in the Arkansas River Valley,
Heather - Well done on the dress! - I need to go ahead and give my wedding dress to a shop here, but I haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet. I'll gift it to my granddaughter the next time they visit, but only if she wants it. If not, I'll put it in the donation box.
Barbie - I hope Jake's better today, and well done getting a win out of the situation for you and Annie!
Ginny - Luna is a beauty.
Lanette - I buzzed around on the big mower on Friday to mulch the leaves in, but wasn't as dedicated as your neighbor. Just blew them up in heaps around the trees. Not as easy as it sounds, and had a LOT of leaf litter falling off me when I got in the shower afterward! Which reminds me, I have to get a propane tank swapped over and get the gas cans filled for the small amount we'll need them this winter.
Kylia - Is it worth buying fuel stabilizer for the winter for the mowers and the big walk-behind trimmer and the tiller? Figured you would know if anyone does. I know we need to get some for Corey's 1989 Ford pickup. We don't drive it nearly enough, and I need to remind him to do that this weekend.
Annie - Thinking about you. Hope it's going well.
Caught up, more in a minute.
Love,
Lisa

Annie, Thinking of you as you navigate your new chapter with your parents. Take it one day at a time. When my mother fell ill and needed care late in her life, my well meaning friend said to me, "You know, she could go on like this for twenty years." That was not helpful. It helped more when Jake said "Let's just take this one day at a time and come from a place of love".
Heather, Happy Anniversary. You and Johnny really know how to make a celebration meaningful.
Barbara, Jake and I are the opposite of you and Joe. Jake likes to go places and I don't. There have been times when he has gone on a weekend or week long trip without me and I have been content to stay home with the pets. I am capable of being charming and delightful in groups of people but am happiest alone or with one other person.
Tracey, Your crafts are beautiful. I'm happy to hear that you are finding buyers. For years I went to all the craft fairs in town although I'm not a buyer but from time to time found something I couldn't live without. You are doing a great service to people through your beautiful work and finding a way to finance something you love doing.
I have had less time to knit since Annie came. She requires a lot of attention. Also, I have to be careful to keep my knitting basket out of her reach so it's not always next to me for easy knitting. Fortunately, there is no deadline for finishing anything that I'm doing.

Good morning ladies!
Barbie what a scare with Jake! Glad the chest pains got better. Does he see a cardiologist often?
Heather that's admirable of you to give up your fancy dress. My closet knows I could never, no matter how much sense it makes! I need to go diving soon for a bigger pair of jeans. Sigh!
Ginny I guess I need to find a nephrologist for mom. I looked once before, and most of them were way up north. This week we have the dentist and Thanksgiving. Next week is the primary care doctor. So we are making progress.
The home health nurse was good although not what I expected. I thought it was an assessment of the living environment, but it was an assessment of mom's health. She took vitals and reviewed medicine and filled out insurance forms.
My added task is that I have to take mom's blood pressure before her pills. It was hard enough to get the pills done. And the nurse wants me to pull up some of the rugs. Meanwhile my dad left his tools on the floor in front of the bathroom. He is such a goof.
And Ginny you asked about power of attorney. If my mom ever finished hers, it names my dad and not me. I know that is going to be a problem some day. My dad sits through these meetings looking serious but not hearing much. Then his dementia kicks in and his avoidance of hard topics. It's a mess.
So today my mom is still in bed, and Dad is out walking. He agreed before that he wouldn't leave the neighborhood, but now left a note that he is walking to the drug store across main street. He doesn't remember what his agreements are.
So I might as well have another cup of tea and enjoy the quiet. Have a great day, my friends!
Annie

I’m not much of a post-er but I love reading about your alls days.
Had our first Thanksgiving dinner at my twin sister’s house this past Sunday. Got 2 more dinners and a party between Thursday and December 5th. On top of that, my husband will be on vacation next week and we’re going away for a few days starting Sunday for our 16th wedding Anniversary.
I finally made it to the 170’s last Friday (179.8). I’ll be happy if I can just maintain my weight until after the holidays. I plan on watching what and how much I eat til then tho and will continue walking on my treadmill.
Until next time,
Gina from SE Kentucky11 -
Gina, Congrats on your weight loss. I have been part of this thread for many years and read it every day but don't post much. Everybody loves me anyway and we'll feel the same way about you if we see you from time to time. We thrive here with a good balance of talkers and listeners. Walking every day has been a great help to me. For years I walked on a treadmill and now I walk outdoors.

Freezing Fudge ... yes you can ... and you can also eat it in the frozen state ...ask me how I know ... lol!
Barbara ... the bench and Joe's reason for it ... perfect!
Annie ... ask the primary physician about a nephrologist. Given your mom's age, the kidney issues might be able to be treated with her current team of medical professionals. I could be carting my mom to one specialist after another, but I don't because there isn't much to gain by it. Of course, each situation is different. You can also ask the primary doctor for advice on services at home. The doctor is the one to order them anyways. Even after my mom had a short ER visit for a fall, the discharge nurse asked if I wanted "rehab" ... I asked why and then she reminded me that it was another way to get PT/OT into her apartment for a few weeks.
Ginny ... congratulations on your new granddaughter!
Question: Do any of you have tinnitus and have you tried Lipo Flavonoid?
Getting ready for Thanksgiving. It will just be my guys and my mom for the day. Still, I go overboard. Don't know how many more I have with my mom so I'll do it up big.

Machka - we call people partners here too a lot now. Or “your other half”.
Barbara - I teared up reading about Joe wanting a bench. I can feel how much that touched you radiating from the screen. I’m so happy for you.
Heather - a beautiful dress. I hope you have luck with the cupboard door. That Gorilla Glue is just the best.
Ginny - I don’t know if we make enough to make it worth it, but I do enjoy getting out and meeting people.
I need to find a foot doctor I think. I need benefits again first.
Lanette - I haven’t worn panty hose in years and years. I remember the miserableness of them.
On Sunday my granddaughter was here, she refuses to wear anything but dresses, but my daughter refuses to let her wear them without tights, shorts or leggings under them. Apparently it’s a school rule here. Michaela was complaining about her tights and our daughter told her she would be more comfortable in leggings or jeans, but she just said it’s ok, I like dresses.
I sometimes think I would like to have a cleaner to come and do baseboards and such. I used to do deep cleaning myself fairly regularly, now I just don’t have it in me to do it as often.
Kylia - I hope you can at least get a visit in with your grands soonish.
When we moved to AB I left my wedding dress at my in-laws. Somehow or other it got put in a shed and got a big stain on the front. When I was home in 2015 I took the dress and cut the appliqués off of it, some of the lace and some of the buttons. I made a shadow box out of the different pieces with some of our wedding pictures. Our youngest daughter took some of the appliqués and had them made into a veil for her wedding. Her veil was less expensive than a store bought one.
This is a picture of her showing it to me the first time.
Annie - You are handling this all so well. I hope that there will be some home care available to help at some point. I wonder how I’ll be as a senior if I need assistance. I hope to be easy going, but fear I may not be. I like to be in control.
Allie - I hope you feel better soon, do you have a flu?
Miles sure is a cute Turkey.
Gina - congrats on the weight loss and happy anniversary.
Well class was cancelled again today because the instructor is sick. I am not learning well just by reading and I’m quite disappointed in this school, last session he was absent 3 days, for a 9 day course that’s a lot.
I’m off to make some more ornaments, I make these little ones that I call personalities, I have sold out again. I must have made 200 of these by now over the last few years. People buy many at a time of them.

Today’s gratitude: Joe said “I know what you can get me for Christmas, a bench for the powerline meadow.” Amazing as he usually wants nothng for and to do with the holidays. Showed Joe 3 possible garden benches, liked the one he chose Then he said “we can sit on it together and watch the ocean.”
Debbie, Lisa, Michele Thanks! Do you freeze the fudge before you cut it into squares? Any special wrapping?
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
November: Move more: chair yoga, line dance, dailyish PT, play with dogs.
Fuel better: less sugar, CI<CO, dailyish vitamins.
Live NOW: dailyish time with Joe, readings, start meditating. Open heart and mind before mouth.
2023: Be of good cheer.
That is sweet that Joe wants a gift that he wants to share with you.
For the fudge, I wrap the whole pound in seran wrap then a ziploc bag or pull the seal a meal out and use that.(I need to remember to do that with the ones I am sending to former hubby and what ever fudge is left-) found a pound of fudge in the fridge from last year- still looks exactly like when I put it in there. It was in the meat drawer in the garage fridge- that doesn't get used for meat, just misc.

Michele ~ What is Kafli? I looked it up on Google and it doesn't seem like something I would eat. Is it a family tradition?
Barbie ~ Sorry about Jake's scare with his heart. Hope the nitro does its work.
Ginny ~ Luna is a little beauty! We will all be looking for photos of her as she grows!
Lisa ~ Your basket is really nice looking. You are very talented.
Drizzly rain here today and possible storm damage. It should clear up before TG Day.

I am the opposite- I went out and bought a bunch of dresses/skirts about 6 yrs ago- I always had dresses but rarely wore them until I started going back to church. This church is very conservative and almost every lady there wears dresses/skirts. Only one or two will wear pants(men are mostly in shirts and ties w/ jacket, even the little boys)
I need to get my weight back down so the skirts fit better. The one I wore Sunday was a bit snug in the waist.
I very very rarely wear nylons. I can't stand the pressure on my stomach.
I wear leggings under all of the dresses/skirts- capri length under the shorter ones, full length under my long ones- a LOT more comfortable than the slips we used to wear.
I now have two pairs of knee high boots(one tan that I just got and one black)
With my former brother in law. His dad refers to the lady he is dating as his
"lady friend"- they are in their mid 50's so more appropriate than "girl friend"
