I’m not much of a post-er but I love reading about your alls days.
Had our first Thanksgiving dinner at my twin sister’s house this past Sunday. Got 2 more dinners and a party between Thursday and December 5th. On top of that, my husband will be on vacation next week and we’re going away for a few days starting Sunday for our 16th wedding Anniversary.
I finally made it to the 170’s last Friday (179.8). I’ll be happy if I can just maintain my weight until after the holidays. I plan on watching what and how much I eat til then tho and will continue walking on my treadmill.
Until next time,
Gina from SE Kentucky11 -
Gina, Congrats on your weight loss. I have been part of this thread for many years and read it every day but don't post much. Everybody loves me anyway and we'll feel the same way about you if we see you from time to time. We thrive here with a good balance of talkers and listeners. Walking every day has been a great help to me. For years I walked on a treadmill and now I walk outdoors.

Freezing Fudge ... yes you can ... and you can also eat it in the frozen state ...ask me how I know ... lol!
Barbara ... the bench and Joe's reason for it ... perfect!
Annie ... ask the primary physician about a nephrologist. Given your mom's age, the kidney issues might be able to be treated with her current team of medical professionals. I could be carting my mom to one specialist after another, but I don't because there isn't much to gain by it. Of course, each situation is different. Ginny ... congratulations on your new granddaughter!

Getting ready for Thanksgiving. It will just be my guys and my mom for the day. Still, I go overboard. Don't know how many more I have with my mom so I'll do it up big.

Machka - we call people partners here too a lot now. Or “your other half”.
Barbara - I teared up reading about Joe wanting a bench. I can feel how much that touched you radiating from the screen. I’m so happy for you.
Heather - a beautiful dress. I hope you have luck with the cupboard door. That Gorilla Glue is just the best.
Ginny - I don’t know if we make enough to make it worth it, but I do enjoy getting out and meeting people.
I need to find a foot doctor I think. I need benefits again first.
Lanette - I haven’t worn panty hose in years and years. I remember the miserableness of them.
On Sunday my granddaughter was here, she refuses to wear anything but dresses, but my daughter refuses to let her wear them without tights, shorts or leggings under them. Apparently it’s a school rule here. Michaela was complaining about her tights and our daughter told her she would be more comfortable in leggings or jeans, but she just said it’s ok, I like dresses.
I sometimes think I would like to have a cleaner to come and do baseboards and such. I used to do deep cleaning myself fairly regularly, now I just don’t have it in me to do it as often.
Kylia - I hope you can at least get a visit in with your grands soonish.
When we moved to AB I left my wedding dress at my in-laws. Somehow or other it got put in a shed and got a big stain on the front. When I was home in 2015 I took the dress and cut the appliqués off of it, some of the lace and some of the buttons. I made a shadow box out of the different pieces with some of our wedding pictures. Our youngest daughter took some of the appliqués and had them made into a veil for her wedding. Her veil was less expensive than a store bought one.
This is a picture of her showing it to me the first time.
Annie - You are handling this all so well. I hope that there will be some home care available to help at some point. I wonder how I’ll be as a senior if I need assistance. I hope to be easy going, but fear I may not be. I like to be in control.
Allie - I hope you feel better soon, do you have a flu?
Miles sure is a cute Turkey.
Gina - congrats on the weight loss and happy anniversary.
Well class was cancelled again today because the instructor is sick. I am not learning well just by reading and I’m quite disappointed in this school, last session he was absent 3 days, for a 9 day course that’s a lot.
I’m off to make some more ornaments, I make these little ones that I call personalities, I have sold out again. I must have made 200 of these by now over the last few years. People buy many at a time of them.

Today’s gratitude: Joe said “I know what you can get me for Christmas, a bench for the powerline meadow.” Amazing as he usually wants nothng for and to do with the holidays. Showed Joe 3 possible garden benches, liked the one he chose Then he said “we can sit on it together and watch the ocean.”
Debbie, Lisa, Michele Thanks! Do you freeze the fudge before you cut it into squares? Any special wrapping?
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
November: Move more: chair yoga, line dance, dailyish PT, play with dogs.
Fuel better: less sugar, CI<CO, dailyish vitamins.
Live NOW: dailyish time with Joe, readings, start meditating. Open heart and mind before mouth.
2023: Be of good cheer.
That is sweet that Joe wants a gift that he wants to share with you.
For the fudge, I wrap the whole pound in seran wrap then a ziploc bag or pull the seal a meal out and use that.(I need to remember to do that with the ones I am sending to former hubby and what ever fudge is left-) found a pound of fudge in the fridge from last year- still looks exactly like when I put it in there. It was in the meat drawer in the garage fridge- that doesn't get used for meat, just misc.

Good morning, ladies.
Heather, happy anniversary. Wishing you many more.
Annie, hopefully the home care nurse will be helpful.
Just reading through trying to catch up on here.

Michele ~ What is Kafli? I looked it up on Google and it doesn't seem like something I would eat. Is it a family tradition?
Barbie ~ Sorry about Jake's scare with his heart. Hope the nitro does its work.
Ginny ~ Luna is a little beauty! We will all be looking for photos of her as she grows!
Lisa ~ Your basket is really nice looking. You are very talented.
Drizzly rain here today and possible storm damage. It should clear up before TG Day.

Heather - gosh that was a beautiful dress, you looked stunning. But I understand, why keep it around. I went through the stage of giving way all my dresses and skirts several years ago. They were cute but no longer fit and just weren't comfortable because I'd have to wear panty hose. Good riddance. And gals were wearing pants everywhere, even church and weddings. I have some nice dressy tops and call it good.
Lanette

I am the opposite- I went out and bought a bunch of dresses/skirts about 6 yrs ago- I always had dresses but rarely wore them until I started going back to church. This church is very conservative and almost every lady there wears dresses/skirts. Only one or two will wear pants(men are mostly in shirts and ties w/ jacket, even the little boys)
I need to get my weight back down so the skirts fit better. The one I wore Sunday was a bit snug in the waist.
I very very rarely wear nylons. I can't stand the pressure on my stomach.
I wear leggings under all of the dresses/skirts- capri length under the shorter ones, full length under my long ones- a LOT more comfortable than the slips we used to wear.
I now have two pairs of knee high boots(one tan that I just got and one black)
With my former brother in law. His dad refers to the lady he is dating as his
"lady friend"- they are in their mid 50's so more appropriate than "girl friend"

I love walking outdoors more than I do on the treadmill. With the colder weather and rain tho, the treadmill it will be. Plus with the treadmill I can walk at an incline.

Got things ready (sort-of) to take to Jess’. Also made more of the protein pancakes as I may wind up taking some up with me. Put a load of laundry in. Since it’s raining (drizzling), I’ll probably do a Leslie Sansone DVD in a bit
barbie – so glad Jake is better. When we go to Jess’, I’m going to take another coat with me (versus the one I took the last time. This one has more pockets. I’m going to work with Gannon not to pull. I know that “treats” (I’ll just use kibble) is a strong motivator for him. I’m hoping it’ll be strong enough
M – I couldn’t get that video to start. I don’t see any seams so I’m thinking that it’s not an inflatable that she’s in. So the only other thing I can think of is that it’s a hologram. But it WAS impressive to see it, that’s certainly not something that I’d expected
Barbara – I do cut my fudge before freezing. Otherwise, it would be too hard to cut frozen. So that would mean every time I’d want a piece, I’d have to thaw it. And who can wait that long???? lol As long as it’s cool. I don’t lay mine out on a cookie sheet to freeze and then put it in a bag in the freezer. Yes, sometimes they stick. But it’s never been so hard to take them apart that I’ve given up. No special wrapping, I’ve just put mine in a plastic bag. A lot of times I go to things without Vince.
Heather – that can’t be the dress you’re going to get rid of? Unless you don’t have it zipped up in the back, it looks like it fits you well.
Regarding “partner”….maybe I DO need to adjust my thinking. Ginny – thanks for pointing out how it signifies a commitment. So you’re saying that the bubble the singer was in was an inflatable and she just went into it via a trap door? But if it was an inflatable, it would have to be super-airtight. We didn’t see it when we walked into the concert, so it wasn’t something that was there and she just went into.
I donated all the gowns I had and most of the dresses. I did keep two or so, just for funerals, and a nice one for weddings and other fancy occasions. Really, most of them didn’t fit me because I hadn’t bought a dress in about 20 or more years. And I’m no longer in my 30’s (but I wish I was)
Kylia – sorry about SIL. Hope that Covid is a mild case
Terri – oh, I more than enjoyed the concert!!!!!
Lisa – your wedding dress is so lovely. Maybe a local theater company can use it? I know when the gal who used to run the ceramics place got divorced, she gave me her wedding dress to donate to them. She didn’t “want anyone else to have the bad luck”...lol Anyway, they said they’d be glad to take it as they didn’t have a cream colored dress. Yours has the black and white which is different, so maybe they would want it
Allie – that turkey is too cute to cook, but cute enough to want to give it hugs.
Gina – happy anniversary. Where are you going? Congrats on your loss!
Beth – you sure can eat the fudge when it’s frozen. In some ways, it’s really better because it forces you to take longer to eat it….lol
Do they still make pantyhose?????? I couldn’t tell you
Tracey – your ornaments are SOOOOO cute. How big are they?
Carol – kafli is some sort of German dish that’s basically a pasta,. I found some of it at Aldi and thought it was something different. As far as family traditions: I’ll be making the pierogi in the next few weeks. This is the only time during the year that I make them from scratch. Why I used to make the dough with my hands is beyond me. Last year I put all the ingredients in the mixer with the dough hook and it worked wonderfully. My grandmother used to roll the dough out, I use the pasta maker attachment. Am I lazy or what???
Off to do that DVD

1. Make a list of new things you want to do this month. 1. Start Christmas shopping, 2. Work on my happiness, 3. Walk the mall at least once. 4. Read a new book
2. Respond to a difficult situation in a different way. I will see what comes up, but the daily readings I do have helped a lot already! Did this!
3. Get outside and observe the changes in nature around you..Supposed to be in the low 80’s (f) here today and the week to come so will have plenty of time to do this. Didn’t do this today, sick.
4. Sign up to join a new course, activity, or online community. I’ll have to look around for this. Thinking about something to do with MCC. I joined 2 new groups on FB.
5. Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel. Will do!
6. Try out a new way of being physically active. I will have to think about this. Maybe do a YouTube video. Did not do this.
7. Be creative. Cook, draw, write, paint, make or inspire. I will Zendoodle. I tried out my DH’s suggestion for mirror letters.
8. Plan a new idea or activity you want to try out this year. I have a water color set. I will experiment with that.
9. When you feel you can’t do something, add the word ‘yet’. I need to remember this.
10. Be curious, learn about a new topic or an inspiring idea. I learned about Alonon and downloaded their app and read through it.
11. Choose a different route and see what you notice on the way. I did this on my walk today.
12. Find out something new about someone you care about. Research time!
13. Do something playful outdoors - walk, run, explore, relax. Took a walk.
14. Find a new way to help or support a cause you care about. Have to think about this.
15. Build on new ideas by thinking “yes, and what if…” I will remember this!
16. Look at life at someone else’s eyes and see their perspective. According to my therapist, this is called empathy. I do this but not enough. Will try to do better.
17. Try a new way to practice self-care and be kind to yourself. Staying in bed and resting today.
18. Connect with someone from a different generation. I do this most days at the park.
20. Make a meal using a recipe or ingredient you haven’t used before. My DH does this all the time! He does all the cooking.
21. Learn a new skill from a friend or share one of yours with them. Hmmmm22. Find a new way to tell someone you appreciate them.
23. Set aside a time to pursue an activity your love.
24. Share with a friend something useful you learned recently.
25. Use one of your strengths in a new and creative way.
26. Try out a different radio station or new TV show.
27. Join a friend doing a hobby and find out why they love it.

Back again!
Ended up getting ALL the errands done, even some I've been putting off for years...
Went down and paid the tax on the new Kicks (ouch!) and since I was at the right department, took all my info and went ahead and got my "Real ID" gold star driver's license done so if I ever choose to fly again, I'll be able to. My picture looks like someone goosed me right at that point, but oh well. That was the errand I've put off for years.
Also stopped at two grocery stores to pick up things only they carry. Then stopped at the post office to pick up the large mailing box for my grandson's present. When I got home, talked to my son (over text), my husband and my best friend, and when I was done talking to them, called my vision plan to cancel, because the VA has finally added vision services, and I have an appointment in the new year.
I also got a call from the VA saying they were going to get me a community care acupuncturist referral because the VA acupuncturist is already scheduled out to April. I've never had acupuncture, but have no fear of needles, so am hopeful it will help with the pain. I've always thought of it as similar in function to a placebo, in that the more you believe in it, the more it works for you, but am willing to try it.
I fully intend to spend the next few hours curled up on the recliner, crocheting and streaming something on the television that is interesting and possibly even educational. Hope everyone's having a wonderful day...
Love from Arkansas,
Lisa7 -
Hi, Annie. I know you worry about your parents. You are so sweet to be caring for them.
Put the stage 3 ckd out of your mind. You have enough to worry about. If she needed a nephrologist, someone would have recommended it. I technically have it, as well, and I'm just told to avoid salt, cut down red meats, and drink lots of water. If your mom is chronically dehydrated, that will throw off her GFR. (My doc thinks that's my problem, since I have CTs every six months because of the cancer, and my kidneys look perfect.)
Michelle, my eldest has a "partner." Since the partner is non-binary, even if they should decide to marry, I assume they will still be a "partner," or perhaps "spouse." It's new ground for me.
So thankful for this three day break. I do need to run up to my mom's one day to start bringing stuff home. We had left some things up there because we were going to buy one of the lots and build, but for all kinds of reasons, that's not possible. Hubby is pouting about it, so I will go up on my own. Just drive up, pack the car and drive back. No worse than an 8 hour work day, and lots of quiet time.
Take care everyone.

Barbie--Glad that Jake it ok.
Heather--Happy Anniversary to both of you.
Ginny--So cute.
I have heard the expression lady or male friend used a lot for couples around our age.
Well work tomorrow than have 4 days off. We are to do family pictures Sunday with DS and family and grand children. They want to do that outside at the park. Weatherman says snow Friday and Saturday and cold. So not sure what Sunday will be like and I do not like the idea of standing around outside in cold snowy weather. See what they plan next.

Michele kibble in your pocket is a good plan for dog walking. You may not get as many steps but it is a great training tool
Annie Jake has a great cardiologist, also has video and face to face visits with the heart failure team, takes his blood pressure daily, and has an implanted pacemaker defibrillator so he is well cared for
I sure miss having cats to sleep with. Before we had our first dog many years ago we had three cats who were in bed with us all night
I want to walk with Annie now but the woodstove is still warm and she's asleep in her bed between me on the exercise bike and the woodstove. Bessie and Jake are asleep in the bedroom. I already have 11,000 steps. Tough decision. Will comfort win out?

Hello Friends. I got behind, again, and only just now got caught up with the past 8 days of your news, photos, memes and bon mots. You always amaze me with the care and thoughtfulness shown here. I propose a salute to our sisterhood as we begin to enter the hectic holiday season and get poised and ready for the new year. Here’s to another year of fun and friendship!
As I write this my dear friend Amy is in the ICU following a colectomy that went sideways, especially given many of her pre-existing conditions. She and her husband live in the Poconos, but they have found excellent medical care. However, my instincts tell me she is coming to the end of the road. She and I are close. Closer than her biological sister. If/when she is placed on hospice care, I will fly out to sit with her. It is so hard to watch her languish in physical and emotional pain.
On a more cheerful note, my sweet gentleman friend, N came to visit last week for 5 days. It was like a mash up of Hallmark Movie meets The Golden Bachelor. I seldom entertain but felt compelled to pull together a simple harvest dinner (thank you Honey Baked Ham), and invite him to meet my tenant, niece and niece’s partner. As he and I were puttering in the kitchen waiting for the guests, I had this epiphany “I’ve missed having a partner”. It was so nice to have him there to lend a hand, make me laugh and extend his warmth and generosity to my special people. They were charmed by him. I also took N to my condo gym to introduce him to the joys of a Concept Two rowing maching, to my favorite cauliflower pizza place, and out walking the neighborhood with my leash loving cat, Mars. The way to my heart is definitely thru my cat… just kidding. Maybe.
The best part of his visit was the 4 days up at a little cabin in Breckenridge. It had a huge south facing deck overlooking a pond, forest and the mountains. He would light the fire pit and we’d sit out there watching nature and having deep conversations. We took the gondola up the mountain to catch some of the exciting vibe of the first weekend of ski season. We are no longer skiers but thoroughly enjoyed sipping hot chocolate and people watching. A craft cocktail company had samples at their pop up, and I tried the Espresso Martini. The gal working it thought we were cute and asked to take our photo. Sure! Heck, we think we’re cute, too.
Our feelings for each other are definitely strong. Albeit each multiple days in duration, we have only had 3 dates. Once we return to our respective homes, it’s back to normal routines and activities. So we are going to keep with this rhythm of meeting where we can, when we can grabbing as much fun and love as we can. Holidays for him will be at home with DD. For me, fasting over Thanksgiving, and working basketball games and shows most of the month of Dec. So for now, date #4 is tba…stay tuned.
I have been dazzled by all the artists and crafters showing your work here. You’ve inspired me. I put a lot of thought into curating the best photos of the current year and composing them into 12 collages for next year’s wall calendar. It has been true joy to revisit the memories:
Having close proximity to the NBA Denver Nuggets as they won a championship.
Going to Brighton and meeting Heather.
Seeing several incredible concerts and shows, including Dan Harris in person.
Meeting up with 3 good friends who live out of town.
And of course meeting N.
As for my health goals, I released 2.5 pounds this year.
I started StretchLab and have been incorporating deep stretching and foam roller work into my daily workout routine. (Hurts so good).
And I feel really strong and happy. Body isn’t perfect, but I rarely get ill or sidelined with pains.
Grateful for it all. Grateful for YOU all. To those who celebrate. may you enjoy a Happy and peaceful Thanksgiving. We can do this.

Lanette - I have been doing show for 6 years now, although none in 20 or 21. In 20 they were all shut down and in 21 since I worked in the home I decided it wasn’t safe for me to do. I didn’t want to risk the residents.
In saying that, I found this to be a good one this past weekend. I have been at some shows where I didn’t even make my table money back. I never spend more on a table than I’m willing to lose, but still it sucks!
My most expensive ornament is $10 and I am selling my house sets, radio and lanterns for $25. I did give a lady a deal on the one house set on Saturday. She came by looking at it a few times and when she finally asked how much, I told her $20.
My ornaments are bought because they are all unique and I add free personalization on the spot. A lot of parents and grandparents buy them for the yearly ornament. I also give a deal if you buy 3 you get a deal, so it’s affordable.
I have 3 more sets ready for this weekend. I’m hoping to get 2 more done, but they are a lot of work.
I really enjoy the crafting more than the selling, but you can only craft so much for yourself.
Lisa - that basket weave is beautiful.
Rebecca - are you planning on going to your sisters again in the summer? DH doesn’t like doing much outside the home I have told him I have no interest in sitting home day after day watching tv. I told him I love him, but it sucks that he married an extrovert. He used to be more into doing things though, so it was a shock to both of us I think.
Ginny - what a sweetheart!
Barbie - glad Jake is ok, scary. Annie may be more willing to walk now.
It is past my bedtime. I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole watching musical performances.

Its a nice vacation to Amtrak down to son's, visit for a bit, then my sister comes up to get me. I then visit with her a bit and can take a train home. Its easy to do it in May or June.👍🏼💖. Of course we plan on driving down in February with eldest and youngest sons so they can get reacquainted with their niece and meet their nephew at their brothers place.🤗

Heather the very happiest of anniversaries to you and Johnny. hearing your stories read to the next generation.
Rosemarie so glad you had such an enjoyable trip.
Kylia thankful your DED has a dog sitter with nerves of steel. When I was about 12 a family friend taught his daughter and me gun safet and how to shoot a 22 rifle. Still remember being surprised by the “kick”. Sunday socializing and sending the men off on their own, do they stay together? Sounds like a good way to sneak in some socialization for the guys too! Thinking of Machka’s dementia causes posts. . .
Annie and just ((hugs)) Really hope your Mom will accept bathing and other help from the home health nurse.
Lanette love your questions and how you think.
Margaret I’ve always carried too much around my waist. There are pictures of me as a skinny legged child with a pot belly, not quite kwashiorkor but . . . Hope your MD has some next steps to help with your breathing.
Rebecca your sister’s place is beautiful! Sure hope her riding mower is a mulcher. . .
Debbie, Lisa, Michele Thanks! Do you freeze the fudge before you cut it into squares? Any special wrapping?
Lisa looks like Egg put her foot down. That’s enough writing for now!
Sue, yours to Annie. Truth that.
Vicki so glad you had a good weekend, you deserve it and many more.
Rebecca “ But I felt sad to tell her. I have learned I can't force Lee into situations he is not comfortable in. I have to also support my husband, and not be one sided or another.” Yes this. Took me a very very very long time to come to your wisdom and still sometimes grieve Joe’s absence from social gatherings, but have to respect his boundaries/comfort level.
Carol fingers Xd for the leaf removal.
Ginny what a cute little bug-in-a-rug Luna is!
Barbie thankful Jake is OK. Love the good for you both long walk with Annie. Treats, positive behaviors and interactions and best of all her nap with Jake
Tracey Rodger and Joe could be brothers from another mother. I’m a half intro and half extra, an ixtrovert? Need time out and about with people, then quiet time at home to recover
Machka agree. I use “partner” when I don’t know if a couple is married or not.11/20: Move: ZERO sets PT , line dance class, dogs to powerline, Steps:8254Time to snooze. She has an attachment that sucks all the leaves up and shoots them in a bag thingie. Then she puts the leaves on her burn pile. Her granddaughters come out and help her. They are 6, 8,13. Each of them can drive the gator well. 😁

Ginny - Luna is adorable, thanks for posting that photo. Good luck at the podiatrist today. Sounds like you've firmed up where your retirement residence will be.
Michele - you are the energizer bunny doing all of that cooking in one day. It's been hard for me to get used to calling anyone a "partner" unless it's in the business sense such as investors in legal partnership. That's what I think of first when someone uses the term. And yes, "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" when the couple is older seems awkward. "Significant other" sums it up in a way I can understand. That's what I'd probably say if I had a special guy in my life at this stage. Or maybe just "good buddy." Fascinating how language has evolved in the past 50 years, but then it probably has always been that way. I'm sure our parents and grandparents noticed the same thing.
Now I'm curious about reverse lunges. I looked them up. I'd have to hang on to something because of my dicey feet but I can see how they'd be helpful.
Barbara - a bench overlooking the ocean sounds wonderful. Good for Joe! Like many of our husbands, my DH also begged off going to places with me as he got older. He was perfectly fine staying home and watching TV with the dogs while I went to parties or dinners out with couple friends. The other husbands there probably were jealous and wondered how he pulled it off. Glad to hear you'll be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with your friend.
Rebecca - your sister's place is beautiful. It's good she can handle the equipment to keep it up. I'd probably just blow the leaves off the driveway once they have all fallen and call it good, lol. I still have leaves strewn all over the front yard where I blew them last week. My neighbor 2 doors down was mowing over his leaves for about half an hour yesterday, really mulching them down. It was 45F here with a stiff breeze coming out of the north so with the wind chill, it was probably around 40F. I thought - have at it, buddy. If it gets into the mid-50's again I might take the big mower out and mulch them if the soil isn't too soft, but then maybe not.
Barbie - glad Jake is OK. Yesterday after throwing Rosie's toys down the hallway for the 50th time, I thought I bet there'd be interest if I set up a small greyhound type track with a mechanical rabbit that dogs could chase to wear them out. Maybe $2 a minute, $10 minimum. Plus a little illegal betting on the side to help boost my retirement income, lol. I'd let Annie chase it for free.
Cleaner coming this morning at 9, and hour later than normal. I think she has PT for her plantar fasciitis or something. I'm slightly put out because it throws me off schedule. Then I remind myself I don't have to be anywhere so what's the big deal? And I enjoy her company so much, any time she wants to come by really is perfect.
So will close for now. Make it a good day!

I have chatted to my sister about the commitment she's taken on, living in that 1875 home. Her son put a video camera up by the door so he can be notified of any movement. The other morning she wrote GOOD MORNING on a piece of cardboard and showed it to the camera. 😁 I think it will give her some peace of mind knowing her family is keeping track of her a bit. I talked to her about really listening at what she's capable of doing as she gets older. She's 68 presently. I told her that I realize weeding puts her into a Zen mode, but she weeds until the day is over and she can barely walk the next day. Also does she really want the responsibility of caring for everything, and not traveling or feel like she doesn't have the freedom to do that if she wants to?
