Annie ... my Mom's 92 ... when she uses her walker (only with a gait-belt and two people with her), she can experience muscle fatigue quickly and when she does, she needs to immediately sit down ... like the wheelchair needs to be there right then or she's on the ground. Sometimes she sits for just 30 seconds or so, sometimes longer and then she gets back up and walks another 50 feet! I don't think you're going to find very precise information as each person/situation is different. We let my mom be the guide.

Well the goat shed flooded. The floor is pretty wet but the area with rubber mats is just high enough to be out of the water. They were laying in the straw this afternoon when I went out, they do not like being out in the rain so gave them a little hay to keep them busy. Horses are doing OK. They have sheds to get in out of rain and they were happy I came with their afternoon munchies.
When I went into the Y for water exercise this morning there was water over the road in 2 places. Coming home it was over in 3 places. DD uses River Road to travel to and from work. Hope it has not flooded. We have many more days of rain forecast. Glad we are on high ground.

Carol - I agree, it's fun looking up the descriptions of folks who are posting their "type." Pretty amazing how close some of us are.

There were a LOT of different craft sales, store special sales, events for families to attend around here this past weekend. Lots of Santa appearances. And here I thought he was at the North Pole with the elves?????
I wonder how the turnout was at these events. One of the local thrift stores that was having big sales on new Christmas toys for kids closed early on Saturday because of no customers and announced on FB 50% off on everything to the end of the month.
Barbara - same with your shin! I wonder if this cooler and/or damp weather is affecting us? Who needs the weatherman?
Most food banks around here will take canned goods up to six months to a year past the "best by" date. I read somewhere the cans with the pull-tops don't stay good as long as the ones that need a regular can opener.
No threat of flooding at my house - my house is at the top of a hill and I'm not near any rivers or wetlands. I'm sure the chicken run will have some standing water in areas and the soil there will be pretty wet, but with the warmer temperature I'm not too concerned. They can get into their little coop if they don't like wet feet; it will only be a couple days and will drain quickly once the rain stops.
Speaking of, I need to head out and see what the girls are up to. If no one is in the coop I'll do a quick clean.

Yes, she has always been so thoughtful like that. When I told her I had lost all my recipes, it was just in passing, but she remembered and sent the new really flowery decorated recipe book with about 20 recipes from our family. Didn't get the microwavable peanut brittle recipe though. Need to look that one up online.

Hey, I love Florence too. My fathers ashes are scattered at our childhood vacation spot at Mercer Lake. We asked the owners (kids of the owners that we used to play with when we were kuds😁) and they said , "oh we have zillion of ashes all over this place" lol. I learned to swim, to water ski and to catch salamanders.👍🏼

Where are you, I’m in California now
I’m in the Sacramento area. Looks like there are a few ladies on the west coast. My goal is to retire on the Oregon coast. We camp there every summer and it’s so beautiful and peaceful! Worth the winter weather.

Son and his girlfriend put the tree up this evening. They were going to do it while I was gone but I forgot to pull out the ornaments. Fun to watch them do it together. Miss doing it with just he and I when he was younger but nice to see them doing it
Finally got caught up reading but too tired to comment on any more posts- going to head to bed soon.

Lanette - the thrift store has new toys? That’s a great deal for parents. One of our stores always puts their toys on sale at 50% off the week before Christmas. I usually get Michaela’s birthday and Christmas present there.
Heather - we are being taught that any of the children with disabilities be called exceptional. I like it.
Lisa - that was a chatty day. I don’t think you had mentioned about the bio dad being found.

We are doing Christmas on the 23rd because Rodger works Christmas Eve and Christmas night so will be sleeping most of Christmas.
I am going to a Christmas play Michaela is in at church on Christmas Eve Day.
She informed Kaitlyn and I that she is playing Jesus’ mother, in the most matter of fact, sassy like “who else would I play but the lead?” I think she even had an incredulous look on her face as if to say why would you even have to ask. If she wasn’t so kind, she would come off so snotty and bratty. Thankfully she doesn’t expect these things she is just incredibly confident and that’s not such a bad thing.
Betsy - how sweet to have the flowers given to you.
Rebecca - you may be surprised that one or more of the boys aren’t interested in the photos in another few years. My brother gained an interest in his 40’s my DH really gained an appreciation for them this year at 58. I do want to organize them and also I want to get some printed of the last few years. I think Michaela would love to sit and look through an album with me.
She loves looking at the Skylight frame I have.
Heather - I want some nice drinking glasses. Currently we have Sons of Anarchy 🙄 DH received 3 sets of 3for Christmas one year. They are sturdy and won’t seem to break.
Glad you were able to get rest before your thigh completely gave out.
Debbie - nice pictures of your son and his girlfriend.
I was given an assignment today. We can choose the topic and have to give it in either lecture or discussion format.
I can’t decide what to do it on.
I’m thinking either family, grief or Christmas around the world.
Worked on my stockings today, made a wreath for my door and signed up for two more shows.

@Snowflake1968 ... we've gone to a restaurant on Christmas day most of the time in recent years. I think we started in 2017 and liked the experience so much we've continued.
We chose nice places that put on a special Christmas dinner.
This year we're in a historic hotel with quite a charming dining area.
It's a bit expensive but we don't have to do anything and it's something to look forward to on the day.

Photos - Every year my son does one of those online albums with the best photos of the year from their phones. I imagine it's quite pricey, but it's very smart, bound in navy blue. The kids love looking through it. So they will have a yearly record. You could do the same thing with any kind of photo. Theme it if you like. I don't know how long it takes him, but his wife is very grateful.

Annie-so good to hear nurses are showing up and helping. They will help provide guidance regarding when to stop/start medication and things. The nice thing with hospice/comfort care is with a. good group, the family does not make decisions alone.
Betsy-the flowers sound like a touching gift.
Lanette-the caretaker role never ends, does it? Did you ever think you would be worried about a floor for chickens? They are lucky fowls!

Up early this am (3:30) with feet bothersome. Iced them for 20 minutes and that gives relief. Don't think I will drift back off so will just get some stuff done. Will have late day today-Christmas party for families. Will be tired but will be nice-good to see happiness.
I have a bit of ironing that needs done-think I will knock it out. If I'm going to be up I might as well be productive!

I too have Rebecca's recipe as a screenshot!
I'm all ready to go out. New trousers. I bought them a couple of months ago, but they were a tiny bit tight around the waist. Just recently, I have noticed my pyjama trousers feeling looser around the waist, so I thought I'd give my purchase another try. They fit, and are very comfortable! They are the only pair of winter trousers I have, as I wear leggings all the time.
I'm wearing my nearly new dark blue leopard print sweater, my bright blue lacy camisole showing underneath, and a dotty blue/multi scarf that must be 15 years old. I feel quite snazzy! I so rarely get dressed up these days. I've even got my rings on. Might give my proper winter coat an airing.
How my waist has got smaller, I don't know, but I'll take it!

Debbie - welcome back. So glad you were able to spend some time with your mom. Very good for you both. Nice photo of your son and his GF getting that beautiful tree decorated.
Annie - I used to think 10 minutes of walking....why bother? But I've changed my mind. There's a lot of magic in even 10 minutes of activity like that. Or 5 minutes! Just do the best you can whenever you can.
Heather - make sure to post a photo of you in your beautiful outfit. How nice those new trousers fit.
Sue - I wondered how your critters were doing; glad the goats found a dry spot and your horses are OK. Hope the rivers have crested or will crest soon and the roads aren't too bad. The river at the bottom of my hill is steadily rising but I have several other routes to get to town if I need to take a detour around flooded roads.
So yesterday, once the sun came up, I got a better look at the chicken run. Mostly standing water and mud, even under the coop where they take their dust baths - but it wasn't quite so bad there. This summer, for some reason, I loaded up on cement pavers at Home Depot. So I put several in their run around their feeders and it worked out great. And I had left over deck boards I put under the coop so they at least had some elevated flooring to stand on. Those pavers are now embedded in mud in clay soil so might become permanent; not sure if that's a good thing since the girls like to dig around in the dirt.
They seemed to do just fine with all of this; it will be interesting to see how it plays out when the rain finally starts letting up; I may end up just putting more boards in there for a temporary fix. Grateful for DH's lumber pile and an opportunity to play in the mud.
Pip- 72 degrees sounds great right now. I'm tempted to load up Rosie and the chickens and stop in, lol.
Expecting a call from my sis this morning. Her son's (my nephew's) estranged wife took her own life on Saturday. They live in Colorado, my sis lives in Indiana and only sees them every few years, so it's been a phone call and "Zoom" relationship. Two children - a boy 14 and girl 8. My sis and her husband were unaware of the extent of the gal's problems - evidently mental illness, substance abuse - and have been getting more info the past couple days. My sis's other son is a therapist and has been lending a lot of support. A sad time for that side of the family.

Lanette, so sorry to hear of your nephew's wife. My heart goes out to them, especially the children.
And thank you for the encouragement! I am already tempted to add stairs to my ten minutes of walking, but that's just my impatience.
Ginny yes I am grateful for hospice. My dad is thinking about a stair lift, and I hope hospice can talk him out of it. It's good to have another player without dementia.
Heather, yes, sounds snazzy!
Hope the flooding is manageable for you all and your animals.
We have a slower day planned today, although the social worker might show up. I should trim Teddy's nails. Maybe some laundry.
