Ugh. I couldn't avoid weighing myself at the doctor's this morning. Up nineteen pounds since July. No wonder I had to buy new jeans. And here I am sitting and watching over my mom who is sleeping. She hasn't eaten anything yet today. Okay, I can get up and walk for ten minutes. If I can make that a habit, it will help.

Went to church this morning, then farrier was here this afternoon to trim horse and goat feet. DD and I each got the dog some Christmas treats and she apparently is allergic to one of them. She had eaten them for 2 days and was majorly itchy starting yesterday afternoon. She is a labradoodle and does not shed but we were finding little tufts of hair all over and she was miserable. Gave her Benedryl and she seems better today but it seems to make her sleepy for a while after she has it. Guess we will get rid of those treats.
DD is working overtime on these December weekends but gets the week between Christmas and New Year off with pay. She works in the Archie McPhee warehouse so lots of mail order just now.
Rebecca - wish you lived closer. Our church is doing a Christmas cantata and we could use some more singers.
KJ - my DH taught high school for many years and we could not go out to eat without running into at least one of his students working at the restaurant we went to.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA
I would be there in a New York minute if I could!

Snowflake1968 wrote: »Heather - 715 and painting! That’s great! I love your painting.
I looked up Santon’s you really should dig them out. I so enjoy my village.
Lanette - if there is flooding would you be directly affected?
Annie - doesn’t the doctor need to decide on the meds? It’s good your Dad seems to be on the same page.
I have been known use things past the best before date depending on the item. According to the Canadian Food and Drug agency the Best before date doesn’t mean it’s not safe just may be changed texture or something. Expiration dates mean that they could be harmful if eaten. I always go by smell. I honestly don’t remember so many things having dates when I was younger. Or maybe we used the food faster. My Mom never had extras really.
Barbara - I don’t dust my village pieces except when they are set up. I don’t dust weekly like I should. The Christmas decorations aren’t up long enough to really need dusted before they are put away again for another year.
Machka - a successful event takes a lot of the organizer. It sounds like you had a successful event so deserve a rest today.
Lisa - if Kaitlyn and Michaela weren’t keen on helping, I would probably still do it, it would just take me a week instead of a day.
This usually becomes more of a two-three day event. This year though, I knew we had limited time so I did some prep work before they arrived.
They decorated my tree and had forgotten to put garland or ribbon on, since they were already started when it was noticed I told them not to worry. I only have the ornaments and lights on the tree this year and love it!
I may move the tree a little bit though, it is interrupting my tv viewing.
Johal - I use my iPhone. I run a note and make my comments on that, then I copy and paste it into the group.
Tina - there are times when I wish I was a more adventurous eater. I can’t do it though. Your days sound fun.
Rebecca - a few years ago I took all of my pictures out of albums and put them in photo boxes by year. I noticed they are all messed up now and need another sorting. I also, a few years ago put some of my Christmas photos in my frames around the house. Now I can’t find the pictures! Kaitlyn bought ornament frames for me in 2020 and I love them.
Kelly - I give to my nieces and nephews as I see something I think they would truly appreciate. If they have a sibling I get for all in that family though. I don’t want hurt feelings.
I get so frustrated that often I don’t receive even acknowledgment that they received something never mind a thank you.
I am not looking for accolades, just would like to see some manners.
Also, only one “aunt” (she’s my BFF) has sent my girls a present in the 26 years we’ve lived here. I feel I’ve done more than my share. Petty I know, but truthful.
What a wonderful feeling. I would feel like a Disney Princess too!
I’ve been dealing with plantar fasciitis for a few weeks now. I can’t afford therapy or orthotics, and can’t seem to give it enough rest. It’s so painful. I hope yours was quickly controlled.
Lisa - they sure are enjoying that.
So cute.
Rebecca - we have quite a few gnomes too. They are quite popular and cute.
Barbie - Annie is such a pretty dog.
Pip - I love the Santa at the camper!
Michele - I told her the town I am from had 7 churches within about a mile. Of course, she hasn’t got a perspective on how close that is, but I’ll explain it the next time I’m driving with her.
Glad you weren’t injured in your fall.
I had a fairly relaxed day today. I made some coasters and a did a painting for me. I don’t do much for myself so this was a bit strange.
The painting is 18x24, the biggest I have ever done. I followed a tutorial on YouTube that my brother’s wife shared last night.
It is snowing! I don’t think it will stay since it’s supposed to be above 0 the next few days again.
Off to bed, I’m tired.

Photos, how we try to organize them, and the bulk of it all is the sometimes so frustrating. After buying those photo organizers, remember that plastic box with all the slotted areas where the little containers for photos slipped into? I had bought 2 of them. One for me and one for my middle sister. I looked at it, and my 7 carefully arranged photo albums (except for blank areas where I took out photos for eldest sons albums, and also middle sons photo box one year) and was completely overwhelmed and said Fudge It. I also asked the question, "who am I organizing this for"? I finally realized my sons aren't going to be that interested in photos in general. Sadly my youngest childhood photos aren't hard copy but in files on Lee's computer. So making a photo box or album seems a bit pointless. Its like trading your car in for a horse or something! So I sent my photo organizer to my middle sister and she was thrilled.

Kylia - your trees and decorations are so beautiful; all of you ladies are putting me in the Christmas spirit! Thank you. I plan to do my big shopping spree this Friday. Gift cards and a few food-type things like nuts. Seems everyone I know is avoiding sugar as much as possible these days.
Rebecca - I meant to comment what a nice thing your sis did sending you that recipe card.
Joy - I know it will be a relief to have the seed cleaning machine unloaded and safe at your farm. Is it going to be placed into a shed or barn? Nice to have neighbors with the big equipment to help with all of this. Bet Lucy will look great with her holiday haircut.
Carol - I agree, it's fun looking up the descriptions of folks who are posting their "type." Pretty amazing how close some of us are.
Tracey - hope your foot is doing better today.
There were a LOT of different craft sales, store special sales, events for families to attend around here this past weekend. Lots of Santa appearances. And here I thought he was at the North Pole with the elves????? I wonder how the turnout was at these events. One of the local thrift stores that was having big sales on new Christmas toys for kids closed early on Saturday because of no customers and announced on FB 50% off on everything to the end of the month.
Barbara - same with your shin! I wonder if this cooler and/or damp weather is affecting us? Who needs the weatherman?
Most food banks around here will take canned goods up to six months to a year past the "best by" date. I read somewhere the cans with the pull-tops don't stay good as long as the ones that need a regular can opener.
No threat of flooding at my house - my house is at the top of a hill and I'm not near any rivers or wetlands. I'm sure the chicken run will have some standing water in areas and the soil there will be pretty wet, but with the warmer temperature I'm not too concerned. They can get into their little coop if they don't like wet feet; it will only be a couple days and will drain quickly once the rain stops.
Speaking of, I need to head out and see what the girls are up to. If no one is in the coop I'll do a quick clean.
Make it a fabulous week!

Yes, she has always been so thoughtful like that. When I told her I had lost all my recipes, it was just in passing, but she remembered and sent the new really flowery decorated recipe book with about 20 recipes from our family. Didn't get the microwavable peanut brittle recipe though. Need to look that one up online.

Mine are on my computer and backed up on an external hard drive. Quite a few are also on Flickr.
I probably have some older ones (pre-2000) somewhere but my father and I have scanned some in from time to time so some of the older ones are on computer too.
Then I have my computer background scrolling through sets of them so I get to see them every day.

Barbara near Brookings - I missed your “where do you camp” question. Florence. Love, love, love that town. Beach, lakes, forests - it’s magical. Brooking’s beach is prettier and Harris is awesome, but I’m drawn to Florence. You are fortunate to live where you do. Enjoy every bit of it!!
Annie- hugs upon hugs upon hugs! Glad the hospice nurse is good,

Picked up Bea. Bit cold and rainy, but we were entertained by her! She played for a while in the playground. My thigh started to play up on the way back to their house, but it just made it and it recovered after a sit down. My son drove us home.
The hospital texted me to say that they had received my referral for physio. Of course, there is a waiting list.
He asked us to babysit on Thursday night so they could go to a cycling club dinner. He will pick us up and drop us off, so not too onerous. I expect we will order fish and chips for delivery. At least their house is now warm. Before the renovation, we had to dress for the Arctic.
They are hoping to get the living room sorted out next weekend and then the underfloor heating switched on in there. At the moment, it's still a storage room.
For some reason, a couple of our good glass tumblers have broken over the last year. We use them for lunchtime drinks and bedside water. They are the heavy base kind. Even use them for painting water if required. So I've ordered a set of four new ones.
Tomorrow I won't be writing as I'm going for lunch with G. She will park in our street as there is a train strike and we will get the bus in. I did a good session today - very philosophical! Hair washing and face putting on will be required. Smartish restaurant, but they do a cheaper 'working lunch'.

Got home this afternoon- 10 pages to catch up on(more by the time I actually get through page 13)
Had a great weekend with mom. Didn't rush the candy making- Will do more here at home(forgot a few things I needed and didn't feel like driving over 10 miles to go pick them up). I had plenty of other things to make plus, we ended up also making blueberry and peach jam with frozen fruit we got at the food program. Made(without adding any sugar or pectin) and canned. I made all the candy and I helped mom with the jam. I cooked it but she knows how to can it. She is getting pretty forgetful but we worked through it. Lowering my expectations on what I would get done and how much help mom would be really has helped. She was very tired Sat. after food program and all day Sunday. She skipped church and stayed home.
She kept thanking me for being there, even said she wished I lived up there with her. That will eventually happen I am sure, just not yet. She is very close to telling the room mate to leave which I am thrilled with.
Her hearing is bad so the tv was turned up the whole time and her choice of tv shows is different than mine. ION tv only- Hawaii 5-0 all Friday evening. One evening was all CSI, another SVU, another FBI.
Not exactly what I would choose to watch during dinner and before going to bed.
I am more of HGTV, FoodNetwork, TLC person
DH had a really rough time- his mom has been terrible still and I haven't been here for him to vent to and he had to do all the cat care that I usually do most of so he is very stressed/irritated. I won't be going up and stay as long at mom's but he knows some time soon, I will have to spend more time there to care for her.
Looking forward to reading all of the posts I have missed.
I really need to find this on my phone so I don't miss it.

Annie ... my Mom's 92 ... when she uses her walker (only with a gait-belt and two people with her), she can experience muscle fatigue quickly and when she does, she needs to immediately sit down ... like the wheelchair needs to be there right then or she's on the ground. Sometimes she sits for just 30 seconds or so, sometimes longer and then she gets back up and walks another 50 feet! I don't think you're going to find very precise information as each person/situation is different. We let my mom be the guide.

Well the goat shed flooded. The floor is pretty wet but the area with rubber mats is just high enough to be out of the water. They were laying in the straw this afternoon when I went out, they do not like being out in the rain so gave them a little hay to keep them busy. Horses are doing OK. They have sheds to get in out of rain and they were happy I came with their afternoon munchies.
When I went into the Y for water exercise this morning there was water over the road in 2 places. Coming home it was over in 3 places. DD uses River Road to travel to and from work. Hope it has not flooded. We have many more days of rain forecast. Glad we are on high ground.

Hey, I love Florence too. My fathers ashes are scattered at our childhood vacation spot at Mercer Lake. Where are you, I’m in California now
I’m in the Sacramento area. Looks like there are a few ladies on the west coast. My goal is to retire on the Oregon coast. We camp there every summer and it’s so beautiful and peaceful! Worth the winter weather.
I am in the Napa Valley area and have friends up in Sacramento
WELCOME.
A bit late with the welcome- I was at my mom's up in Alexander Valley the past few days.

Finally got caught up reading but too tired to comment on any more posts- going to head to bed soon.
