I don't want to run tomorrow when it will be 15° feels like 3°, so I got out this morning before the cold front hit. It was chilly when I started and like @Scott6255 I was a little overdressed. It was 45° feels like 38°at the start and 61° feels like 58° at the end so I wore capri length leggings and a t-shirt with sleeves and gloves. I had to take the sleeves and gloves off about halfway through and the wind was also a bit of an issue. I had to take my hat off because it kept blowing off. So that was a little annoying, but I was glad I ran today. It is already 29° feels like 17° right now and getting colder. Since it was so nice today and I won't be running for the next couple of days I decided to run 13.1 miles. I am planning to run a Half Marathon distance at least once per quarter this year, so I figured today was a good day for it. I saw a great blue heron today. I was fixing to cross a bridge at the creek and he came flying up right in front of me. He was huge and really pretty.
Good luck on your race tomorrow @martaindale!

Good luck today Sarah @martaindale
Rooting for HM Pr for you!!
@chris_in_cal disfruta tus vacaciones en Mexico!
@quilteryoyo lol.
Ok it's not that I dislike Fried chicken (how can you not like KFC or tenders!?) ... It's more... When I do occasionally eat meat- If I was picking fast food, I'd go McDonald's over KFC, and if I was at a sit-down restaurant type setting- would prefer my meat to have Moo-ed or Baah-ed or Oink-oink-ed before landing up on my plate! Lol
Happy Sunday!6 -
Hahaha @tarun_yadavA . My first thought when I saw the picture was that your son didn't look happy. I hope he enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment afterwards. You both did great!
Go Sarah @martaindale!5 -

Thanks for all of the well wishes everyone! It's really helpful to have such an encouraging group. Now to the race report. Tldr: got a new PR!The weather was perfect for racing today, about 40° and clear. Luckily, the winds also died down. The race started exactly on time, gear check was easy to find, and though it's a bigish race, it's not so big that there are a lot of lines or hoops to jump through to get to corrals. My plan had been to go about 9:25 to 9:30 for one or two miles as the crowd shook out and I got warmed up before really trying to hit race pace then giving whatever I had left in the last couple miles.
The first mile went to plan but the second was a little faster than intended. This was a really unusual crowd because I felt like I corralled myself appropriately but I was steadily getting passed by people up until the 8th or 9th mile. Usually there's a surge at the beginning and I'll get passed quite a bit for about 3-4 miles max. My splits are a little more erratic than usual but that's largely down to the terrain. Overall the race is fairly flat but there are a lot of little hills and depending on how many of those you have in a given mile it can definitely have an effect. But in general I hit most miles in the middle of the race basically on target and was speeding up towards the last few. Then, one section of the road in mile 11 runs through a neighborhood that had some pretty torn up streets. I tripped and fell hard and it took me a few seconds to get back up. Some passing runners got me up off the ground and made sure I was okay. My hands and knees were stinging pretty badly but I was able to rally and get back on pace and finish strong. Mile 11 also contains a bridge, which is the steepest uphill of the race. You hit it on the way out, but you're fresh and it doesn't have as big of an impact. You definitely noticed the incline that close to the end of the race and I was glad I spent the last week doing some hill work.
My official time is 2:01:56, a 4 minute PR! Almost exactly what I was trained for. I also did a better job with the tangents as my distance ended up at 13.19.
The after-party was good and very appropriate for Southern Louisiana. The post-race food was selections of shrimp/okra or chicken/andouille gumbo, jambalaya, and a vegetarian option that looked like gumbo. And king cake. A live band was playing Cajun music, appropriately named Louisiana Yard Dogs. For those unfamiliar with La slang, Louisiana yard dogs is a nickname for alligators.

Congratulations on your PR @martaindale ! That is so awesome especially after a fall. Looks like you may be sore tomorrow. It sounds like a great race overall and a great post race party!3

Well, today was a mild failed run of sorts. The plan was: 5min warmup, 30min slow, 10min fast, 5min cooldown. I somehow pressed the lap button after 20 minutes and ended up in the fast run all of a sudden. I was still fit, but not yet warmed up. I still managed to run the fastest 10mins in ages Not unhappy.
Yesterday I visited a new corner of my local mini mountain range and looked at some lovely sandstone stacks. Had a lovely day with about 2hrs of wonderfully sunny, yet cold weather and did a nice walk.7 -
You're over half way to your goal @Mari33a . You're doing great despite the weather. I think a lot of us are going to be inside for the next week or so.
@martaindale Congratulations on your PR! You did awesome. I'm so impressed that you did so well after the fall. The post race party sounds like fun.
Technology! SMH @yirara . You did great and the hike sounds like a lot of fun.4 -
@tarun_yadavA - I hope your son will realize it does get easier the more he does it!
I love fried chicken but only have it once in a while from a 'southern' take out place here called Gus's World famous fried chicken. Like you, if I go to a sit-down restaurant, depending on the restaurant I want a steak.
@martaindale - great job on the HM and the 4 minute PR. I am sorry you fell hard and I hope you aren't too sore later. I suspect without that fall you may have hit that 2 hr mark. Next time! The after party/food sounds amazing and fun!
@chris_in_cal - enjoy your vacation in Mexico! Maybe try having a nonalcoholic drink on the rooftop pool bar. I understand that is a big thing right now.7 -
Congrats on your PR @martaindale! You showed your toughness by achieving that despite a bad fall 💪 Hope it heals quickly. After party sounds great.4

@martaindale Congratulations! This is the win to me!I was able to rally and get back on pace and finish strong10

Too cold and nasty here to run. Maybe take a few days break since it's been a long time and probably not since I have been injured.
What a super race @martaindale So sorry about the fall and skinned knees and palm tho. dangit. You were definitely flying. I was wondering how you were going to pace the race. Sometimes if I go out fast I end up with PBs and am able to maintain it. Other times I run out of steam and end up with positive splits. Glad the weather was perfect!!!!!
I guess I could have run yesterday but even tho the temps seemed warm enough I just felt chilled everytime I went out so I just kept prepping for the cold the next few days and did a few walks.
7 -
I'm with you @AlphaHowls . That's just too cold for outdoor running.
Enjoy your time off running @SummerSkier !
I hope everyone being affected by the storms/snow/cold stay warm and safe. It's supposed to hit here tonight and we may get 4 - 6 inches of snow. I know that's not a lot for a lot of you, but it's a lot for E. TN.4 -

My neighbor that helps mow mom's lawn, William, made lunch for mom and I today, so I didn't have time to walk before eating. So, what do you do when you get home with a full stomach and it's cold outside? You cuddle up on the couch and take a nap, of course.
After I got up, the delicious lunch was still sitting a little heavy on my stomach, so I decided to not run again today, but did do a 1.50 mile walk on the treadmill at 3.8 mph.6 -
