I love January! New Year reset has begun. I moved my daughter back to college today and got to spend all day with her. Iโll miss having her home for the holidays, but sheโll be home for the weekend in less than 10 days.
Jan 3: 203.4
Itโs amazing what logging everything and exercise can do! Feeling fabulous. ๐ฅฐ Time to do some quick exercise with Up to the BEat fit with Gina B on YouTube then itโs time to take down the Christmas tree and decorations before heading back to work tomorrow.
Jan 4: 203.3 Happy Thursday friends! Today is my Monday. Time to get back to work and keep up with the good habits.
Jan 5: 202.8 ๐๐๐
Jan 6: 202.7 ๐๐

Jan 9: 203.2 over indulged in salty wings while watching U of M play in the National Championship last night. Great game and tasty food. Gotta eat more veggies today to compensate.
Jan 10: 204.6 Itโs amazing how quickly the scale reacts to a day of mindless grazing. Need to stop the slip back into bad habits now.

Hello I'm Darlene and have been with this group for a while now. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty). I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023. ๐I wouldn't be where I am today without this group (along with a couple other challenges I am in); I am so thankful for their support and accountability. ๐

Jan 2: 163.8 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ Met my New Year's goal - did a 10K walk yesterday AM. Was ravenous all day, but managed to stay under my calorie limit by 5 calories. I would say a successful day. I'm still .2 pounds away from my lowwest weight (just before Christmas).
Jan 3: 162.8 ๐ ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ Funny thing happened to yesterday. Greg, Monty and I started the Airline Trail today (I am feeling nostalgic so want to do it again, and we started off with a big one day 6.2 miles. When we got back to the car, Greg noticed he didn't have his wallet. Thought he left it on the counter at home. Got home, no wallet, now we think he must have dropped it on the trail as we were walking, so we drove back to the trail at the half way point. Greg went one way - I went the other looking for the wallet, another 3.7 miles and didn't find it. When we got home - Greg remembered he took the truck out yesterday - left it in the center console. LOL! So, my 6.2 walked turned into 9.9, silver linings I guess! Here are some pictures from the walk (the first time).

Jan 5 : 163.4 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ช ๐ฆ Couldn't sleep, got up, raided the pantry. When I posted last night it triggered me to stop, but a little too late. Today is my rest day. Off to visit my husband's cousin, celebrate Christmas. Will try to get a small walk in this afternoon. Won't be able to weigh everything, but we are bringing lunch with us, so should be able to estimate and log everything.
Jan 6: 162.8 ๐ ๐ฅ Spent yesterday at my husband's eldery cousins house -5 hours in a car, and sitting all day with her - so not much movement yesterday. I did log everything, and used estimates for measuring. I jumped on the treadmill when I got home - got 2 miles in - counting it as my rest day.
Jan 7: 162.8 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ Just a quiet day at home - hubby was out all day. Finished the book I was reading, waiting for the winter storm to arrive - it came - not as much as expected. Just enough to make it pretty, and for me to get a little strength exercise today shoveling the driveway, but not enough to kill me. Actually looking forward to it. Probably won't get an outside walk today.
Jan 8: 163.6 โน๏ธ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ช Doesn't make sense, but that is what the scale says today - so that's what I am posting.
Jan 9: 163.6 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ช ๐ฆ Had some salty soup (was delicious), so expected the scale to stay the same or go up and it did. Went to Bingo with mom last night - won the door prize ($10). Yahoo. Mom seemed a little down yesterday, hoping all is ok. The arthritis in her hip has been bothering her for years, they give her injections - but the last one didn't really help much. She has her annual appointment with her doctor today - hoping they can figure something out so that she isn't in so much pain everyday.

Jan 13: 162 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ช ๐ฆWoo Hoo! Rainy morning here today, so will get my chores done in the AM, and hopefully get my walk in after the rain ends.
Jan 14: 161.8 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ Rainy morning yesterday - cleaned and organized my closet - brought two big bags to Goodwill of things that no longer fit. Moved the one size up clothes to the hall closet. I'm kind of in between sizes - the things I am wearing are a little too big - but can' quite fit into the size down. Soon enough! The afternoon was beautiful - we hit the 60 degree mark in January - so we took an afternoon walk.

Whoosh! I'm back in the losing column today after gaining yesterday. My wife and I are celebrating my birthday this afternoon (Day After). We are going to an Irish Pub, so I expect Irish stew and sodabread will be calling my name. Not exactly low carb. This will be an OMAD, One Meal A Day for me. Hopefully, I won't gain all of my whoosh back. Ha!

So.... I may be slow. I just noticed that a lot of people are updated their initial post every day and not starting a new post. That actually makes a lot of sense; but I am not willing to post my weight for public view. I could maybe just post whether I met my goals for the day.6

Hello! I've gained quite a bit of weight over the past few years, and I'd like to turn that trend around. At a minimum, I'd like to get out of the obese zone, so my first goal weight is 185.

Hello, Iโm Heidi. Iโm 55, 5โ5โ and I live in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area.
My goals for January:
1 - Weigh in daily
2 - Begin light cardio/stretch/weight exercises
3 - Maintain current weight or lose a little
Weight:
01.01.24 - 165.9 (.1 over my post surgical low)

01.04.24 - 167.5 (calling surgeon to see why I am blowing up like a balloon)
01.05.24 - 167.2 (surgeon says I am okay - here's to hoping it was just water retention!)
01.06.24 - 166 (much better)
01.07.24 - 165.1 (almost back to my post surgical weight)
01.08.24 - 164.2 (swelling weight gain GONE plus .7 more!!)

01.16.24 - 163.4
01.17.24 - 162.9
Exercise:
1 - Started small stretches (arms above head, side twists) which are going well. The pulling on my
incisions was horrible at first but are less so after a week. I also started doing some modified
bridges in the hopes that my healing abdominal muscles would start strengthening up. I am
walking much better and even walked the entire trip to Costco and pushed the cart. The hubby
still won't let me lift much except the small laundry basket!
2 - I'm getting much more walking in this week and slowly building up my stamina after surgery. I'm stretching more and more now as well. I still haven't gotten true exercise in the form of biking or aerobics but that will come soon (I hope).

Hi All! I'm a 46-year-old married mom of five. I started this group in September at 141 pounds (overweight for me at my height) and have lost about 11-12 pounds overall since then. I always gain some weight around Christmas; I love the cookies, truffles, and eggnog etc. I allowed myself to just enjoy those things and slack off some; however, it's time to get back to the routine! My goal for January is to log and weigh every day, and to lose 3 1/2 pounds. I'm setting my goal a tad on the aggressive side because I suspect that some of my gain from the end of December is not only fat but water and such.
Ultimate starting weight 160.0 pounds
January goal: 126.0 pounds
January 1: 129.6 I logged โ๏ธ
January 2: 128.6
January 3: 128.2 I logged โ๏ธ
January 4: 127.4 The scale was acting wonky today... it did this last month but settled out and started acting normal again.
January 5: 128.6 I logged โ๏ธ
January 6: 126.6 I logged โ๏ธ
January 7: 127.2
January 8: 128.8 I logged โ๏ธ
January 9: 126.6 I logged โ๏ธ My weight sure is flopping around a lot, but that's pretty normal when I've been eating a lot and am finding my way back to the routine.
January 10: 126.8 I logged โ๏ธ
January 11: 126.6
January 12: 126.0 I logged โ๏ธ Happy to see that the number did not go up... My mother-in-law made one of her delicious meals for us last night, and it included homemade mac & cheese, a huge weakness of mine. I stopped logging at dinner and *may* have had a bit more than my calorie allotment of the mac & cheese. ๐ฌ
January 13: 125.2
My original goal was 125, so I guess I should celebrate. It will probably go up again and fluctuate for a while before things settle, so I'm not declaring myself at "goal" or even really at 125 yet. I'm also thinking I'd like to keep going for a couple more pounds. I have two pairs of jeans that I wore pre-baby that I would like to be able to fit into, if possible. I tried them on today, and they were a no go, LOL. I mean, at least I could get the legs on, which is nice, but they are still a little ways off. If I lose a couple more pounds, in addition to maybe being able to fit into my favorite jeans again, it would put me in the middle of my normal BMI as well, so that's nice.
In other news, about a week and a half ago my husband started calorie counting with MFP. He wants to lose 50 pounds. For a long time I have intermittently made simple remarks about how "weight loss is simply math," or "exercise is great for health but weight loss happens in the kitchen," or "no matter what you eat, weight loss is simply calories in calories out." Not because I wanted to influence him to lose weight, but just in conversation. I never said anything about MyFitnessPal. Sometimes my family would just catch me measuring my food, all by myself in a little corner. One morning he made eggs for me, and I started to reach for the butter. He said, "Oh I already buttered your toast." I said, "Oh, I was going to measure it because I'm tracking my food." And he said, "I already measured it." I said, "Oh! How much butter is it?" And he replied, "A little bit." ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ So this was his idea of "measuring," LOL. Anyway, one day I wake up to find him surrounded by measuring cups and spoons, and he says, "Do we have a food scale?" And come to find out, he had started logging his food with MyFitnessPal. He's lost about 7 pounds already and feeling a lot better. I also love that he now understands my measuring and tracking, and we can discuss it and do it together. I make all our meals, so I've been entering them into the MFP database so that he can log them.
January 14: 127.2
January 15: 126.8 So, I think the 125.2 reading the other day was not accurate. Hubby is weighing himself now, and we are in agreement that our scale sometimes acts wonky and can have a wide margin of error. Today it first read 125.8, but I noticed the right side of it was very close to a crack in the floor. I moved it to the left, and it read 126.8. Then moved it to the middle of the floor, where it's easier to get it flat, and it read 126.8. So, perhaps it dips down a bit if it's close to the crack and reads too low. We are thinking about getting a different scale at some point......
January 16: 127.0
January 17: 127.0 I've been reeeeeally busy the last few days!

@WhiskeyDeltaKilo The great thing about these forums is that they are anonymous so anyone who wants to plug in their scale numbers or any other data, it's a safe place. However, as others have mentioned, it is not required. Everyone has their own comfort level. I think these challenges are more than just what we weigh today. It's about sharing our journey. We share book recommendations, podcast info, exercise routines, strength training advice, recipes, new food products on the market, our NSV's such as losing another notch on our belts. We have successes and we have failures. Hills and Valleys. No loss is linear so we share our ups & downs. However, sharing specific numbers is not required. What I do hope is that we will all share what seems to be working for us and what does not. We uplift and inspire. It's also so nice to "get to know someone" through their stories about their families or their pets. I appreciate all my online "friends", my peers who know, understand and share many of my same struggles. I hope you will always be comfortable here. No pressure to share what you are not ready to share. We care about you, not any specific number.

01/16-183.4-(Trend Weight 181.5)- I thought this would be a bit lower today as yesterday was pretty on-point with diet and exercise. I guess the ham is catching up to me. I did not eat the leftovers yesterday but I probably will today so I guess Iโll see more sodium induced retention, but that should rid itself in the coming days. I do want my body to be able to eat โregular foodsโ if they are in the right quantity and thoughtfully prepared with my goals in mind.
01/17-182.6-(Trend Weight 181.8)- Iโm turning this weight around. I donโt feel like changing my colorful โcross off chartโ on all my challenges and I donโt feel like changing my ticker. So I am going to have to stick to the plan if I want to be an honest woman. Iโve been doing well on my meals-itโs the snacks that I have to worry about. I think the main problem is that I am staying up too late which puts me hungry again so many hours after my dinner. Iโve mainly been sticking to โapprovedโ snacks, but itโs still eating into my exercise calories on some days. I donโt want to maintain I want to lose, so Iโll have to work on bedtime. Wow, looking up I can clearly see that I needed a little pink ink in my entries this month. Happy to have added one today!

SW 1/1/24: 147
GW 1/31/24: 142
Wk 1 EW: 142.6
Wk 2 EW: 141.4
Hi, this is my first time in this challenge and I'm very happy to be here! I'm 66 YO, 5' 2" and officially overweight (again). I've dieted since I was 11 YO and my mom had a chart on the broom closet wall. I've been through the yo-yo weight gain and loss too many times and it's not healthy. Been as high as 165 (2007), as low as 115 (2008). I gained and lost 15-20 lbs at least 3 times in the last 15 years and that's self-defeating- and not healthy. My main goal now is to lose the weight (yes!) AND change my habits to a sustainable lifestyle that allows me to eat well and maintain my fitness.
Wk 3: 1/15-1/21/24:
Goals for the week:
* mini-vacation next weekend- stay thoughtful about my choices and keep logging
* weigh every day- I bought a travel scale!
* no snacking, no desserts, good meals
* continue to exercise every day
1/15: 141.4
1/16: 140.8 (yay!)
1/17: 140.8
1/18: 140.8 leaving today for mini-vacation. fingers crossed and travel scale packed!

Weeks 1 and 2:Wk 2: 1/8/24:
My goals for this week:
continue my exercise plan
tea after dinner- no food after
weigh every day- and be aware it won't always make me "happy"
log in here every day
1/8: 142.6
1/9: 142.2

1/11: 141.4
1/12: 141.4
1/13: 142.2
1/14: 141.4
1/14: Week 2 done!
Down 1.2 lbs for the week and achieved my goals even with a "bump" day. Halfway through January already!
1/8: First week of my first challenge down! Weighed every day, which is a huge step for me! Learning to use that number as a signal, not a moral judgment. Also, making Monday morning my end of week was a good change- I checked my portions all weekend, made new and interesting recipes that changed things up. Learning to make this a sustainable way of life, not a diet! Only took me 66 years!
Wk1: 1/1/24:
My goals for this week:
* to the gym 4-5 times a week (keeping consistent)
* tea after dinner- no food after.
* weigh every day- which I avoid and then gain
* log in here every dayโจ
1/1: 146.6
1/2: 145.8
1/3: 144.2
1/4: 144.2
1/5: 143.2
1/6: 143.4
1/7: 142.6
1/7: Met my goals for the first time in a year and a half. Yay! On to week 2!
1/5: I know that this is mostly adjustment of bloat from the holidays, but it's encouraging to see the number drop. A good boost, but the real work will start when the number stabilizes or goes up.
1/3 Yay! Holiday bloat is going, better habits starting. It's as important for me to learn to eat correctly as to lose this weight. I always eat "healthfully" right through dinner and then pound the snacks after dinner, usually more calories in junk than in my daily meals. So my goal this time is to change this self-defeating- and self-deluding- habit.6 -
Hello I'm Darlene and have been with this group for a while now. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty).

Jan 10: 163.4 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐งโโ๏ธ ๐ฆ

Jan 12: 162.4 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ Finally - a drop! Took a beautiful walk on the Airline Trail today. After the snow we had a couple inches of rain; it washed all the snow away - but made for some great waterfalls on the trail; I counted seven.

Jan 18: 161.2 ๐ฃ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฆ Bitterly cold yesterday. We did get out for a bit - but only about a mile and a half hike - had to get the rest of my steps in on the treadmill. It's going to be the same today.
In honor of my cartoon yesterday (and because I love brussels) I "kindof" made this as a side yesterday. Substituted 2 slices of center cut bacon for the pancetta and added some onions. Very tasty.
