LESS Alcohol ~ MARCH 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

I have been doing a lot of research watching pod casts etc. on how to cut back on the booze.
My #1 take away is understanding how harmful and destructive alcohol dependency is and to be mindful of the triggers that lead to the endless pour of the poison. So many misconceptions out there. The myth of wine is good for you is the #1 worst one. There is nothing good about it.
Last time I saw my Dad he asked how I lost the weight. I mentioned cutting back on alcohol. His response was "no way I can do that" My response " oh you can if you really want to"...7 -
My friend's cardiologist just told him no more coffee, no more booze. He isn't even a big drinker, I've never seen him have more than 2 ever. So the idea that red wine is good for your heart is out the window. I know personally it makes my heart beat like over 100 bpm at 2:00 am or approximately 5 hours after my last drink. It is really bad for me personally and I have made peace with that. 22 days sober today.9

@dmally1 For help with quitting smoking, you might want to read, "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. I started smoking young and was a daily smoker for years. I "cut back" for a few years and only smoked when I was drinking. This book really helped me when I was ready to think about it in a different way and I was able to quit after reading this book.
Based on your reaction to the person you saw smoking, I think you are more than ready. I don't want to wish you luck becaue that's not what it's about, so I wish you determination to get through it.
I never think about cigarettes any more and it was definitely the best thing I did for myself!8 -
Good morning my LA friends. TGIF already!!!

Last night I was so far under my calorie goal that MFP didn’t like it. My husband is a performance coach with an exercise science degree with an emphasis is physiology, so I’ve been listening to his nutritional advice which is only eat when hungry, eat slowly, and only until you feel full. So, I following that advice, I often don’t meet my minimum calorie goal. Last night, I almost got a glass of wine to make up the difference, but hubby handed me the bag of Chex Mix he was eating (he doesn’t like the pretzels… lol). So, I ate his pretzels to make up the difference instead and headed to bed. This morning was my weekly weigh-in, and I’m down 2 whole pounds! It was so worth it to not drink as much this week. Haven’t have a glass of wine since Monday, and I’m totally fine with it.🙂8 -

Ugh, plan went out the window yesterday. Wouund up having a glass and a half at lunch, sanctioned by my boss! It was really nice to have a cold wine on a beautiful day sitting outside. Then I had a glass at wine night ant work. and drank it because I felt bad turning it down after it was poured. Then I got home, DH had a glass of wine waiting for me with a delicious steak dinner. I felt obligated to drink it, but only drank half. Clearly I need to stop drinking out of obligation.
So, way over calories and drank way too much. Weight is up, sleep is terrible. This used to be so much easier!!! I feel like I can’t be motivating to anyone else here because I throw my morning choices out the window as the day goes on.
Good news is I had a great strength workout yesterday. Today is a stretch class.8 -

Been there done that.
The good news is you acknowledged the slip and you can carry on and correct it. The trouble starts when you stop recognizing a slip up...6 -
@Womona, I so agree with @xbowhunter. Acknowledge the slip and get back up!
I’ve watched my daughter-in-law go sober for over a year now, and I find inspiration in her. But, if she were to tell me tomorrow she had a drink, I would simply give her a hug and encourage her to start again. I would not lose any inspiration in or love for her.
I’m inspired that you come to this discussion board and acknowledge that you are human and own it. Don’t ever think you don’t inspire someone! There is strength in our weaknesses… it’s when we get back up after falling down! Love and prayers to you!5 -
@Womona, I totally agree with @xbowhunter and @NonnieDoiron -
That you came here and posted and acknowledged what happened is, in itself, motivating.
And I love that you ended your post by giving yourself a well-deserved pat on the back for the great ST session. Hugs.3 -
@Womano, you are doing great. As I was reading your post, I didn't think, oh, you drank too much. I thought about the cold wine on a beautiful day being a lovely treat. I can understand why you are disparging yourself for the work wine and the wine with steak but ultimately, it was only 2 1/2 glasses of wine over a long period of time. I don't know what your habits were in the past, but to me, this is inspiring.
Be kind to yourself, it seems like you are doing your best!5 -

15 AF - I went into the store and walked to the wine aisle. Then I turned around and left. I'm not trying to go wine-free for life, but I really want to make it through Lent!9

24 days in a row sober which I haven't done since July 2012 where I did the entire month.11

@SunnyDays930 good job you! If you can do a 3 week stretch, you can do anything.
@Itladyee Congratulations and I am excited for you. I hope to be a grandma one day. It's the best job.
@xbowhunter I get what you say about the inflammation. For me, I found out that certain foods do it to me and definitely alcohol if consumed 2 consecutive days. I try to eat anti-inflammatory foods as much as possible.
@lmlmrn I hope you feel better soon and don't need to take meds too long.
Confession time: I had my cheat eat & drink dinner last night: asian takeout with lots of greasy noodles and fried tofu, a whole bottle of white wine (bad me), and a chocolate. Well, that was my event for March and I wake up this morning thanking the world I have Alka Seltzer in the house .
Half a month to go - AF it must be. I want to get to 137. Since my last weigh-in, I am at 139 and only lost about half a lb. Weight loss is just slowing down which makes sense since I need less calories at this weight than I did in the 150's. I plan to keep that Garmin on, eat less than the number it says I burn on a daily basis, and walk 2x a day on my cheap walking treadmill in front of the TV. Not sure why, but this seems to target my fat burning better than the exercise bike or running. Plus it's very easy to forget you're walking if you're watching a movie or youtube surfing.5 -

Well, I slipped up yesterday - fought the urge for almost an hour and finally caved. I just really wanted to celebrate because we found out yesterday morning that my wonderful BIL had a biopsy and it was negative!!6 -
I’ve been reading all these great posts and can’t wait to get back to a daily routine of connecting here. This thread is full of wonderful people who share the same struggles and just know that LA is achievable! No matter how much - any amount is worthy of hugging yourself.
My goal is not to be 💯 percent wine free as I live in CA wine country and have learned to cut way back and enjoy it a lot more by making conscious choices and skipping days.
Honestly, I believe alcohol is way too overrated!!!
Overall goal is to have less and less this year.

Last night I decided after spending a solid 8 hours cleaning my house (did some thorough cleaning that hadn’t been done in awhile due to working), I would partake. I drank 2 glasses of red wine. I drank them slowly while I watched my guilty-pleasure Lifetime movies. I didn’t snack while I was drinking which is a huge win, I didn’t get drunk or even tipsy, went to bed at 9:30, woke up around 1:30 to potty (yes I say potty😂), slept rather well until about 7:30ish when hubby was heading out for the day, and didn’t even have a slight headache.
THAT is exactly the kind of LA moment I’ve been wanting to have. Not going whole-hog full bottle, binging on snacks, having terrible sleep, and a hangover the next morning… regretting every minute of it. It was a relaxing time after a hard day of solid labor.10 -

Don't ever think you are not motivating to us! You are. We see you fall (we are all human and we all fall) but then you get up...and that's key and very motivating...4 -

Took my teens out for gyros last night for dinner. Though I opted for chicken souvlaki and Greek salad, I also opted not to drink that last glass of wine in the bottle. The current open bottle on my counter has lasted a week. Probably the longest an open bottle has lasted on my counter in a long time. I actually didn’t even think about that last glass until I started writing this.
Looking forward to some grand baby time this week (I hope) going for walks and running errands together and being clear headed as I’m doing it! 🙂5 -
Planning to be alcohol free for the next 4 days including today. Wish me luck... lol
