How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds

A comment someone posted on the newsfeed about NROL over ten years ago changed the entire trajectory of my fitness quest. Please re-design the newsfeed. Surely someone at this company can fix it. FB has a functioning newsfeed for over twenty years now. @Betty11

This is so tremendously sad and whomever made this decision, if they have any empathy, should realize that you in real time made people less happy, less healthy. In this war torn, hateful world, you have taken away a small thing we had to support each other. I can’t fathom how you can justify making so many so sad.20

I feel like in protest, we should all decide to not use the app on a certain day or week. Post this on all our feeds8

It probably seems really trivial to the devs, but the fact that my exercises etc are posted without further thought or action needed on my end has been really helping me stay consistent. No one is going to all their friends' activity feeds one by one every day to comment on them, but giving a like when you first open the app is really easy and motivating.
I've been using the app for over 10 years, but only this time I've been able to stay consistent because of the people on my feed. There are better apps out there for tracking (without the constantly increasing paywalls), and better places to keep in contact than MFP forums. The combination is what made me stay. Take that away, I think a lot of people will leave or lose motivation.12 -
This is the worst news ever. Lots of people have lost weight on this app because of the newsfeed and the friends they have made. I joined over 10 year's ago. Not only does the newsfeed provide help with weight loss it provides help with mental health issues because of the friendship people have made with others. The only reason I have stayed around MFP is because of the friends I have made on the newsfeed. If you take that away I for one will go. There are lots of other calorie counting sites but the newsfeed has always set MFP apart from any other app. I know it is going to become a money making scheme somewhere along the line but I for one will not pay for something that has been free, even with ads, so not really free, for all these years. Shame on you MFP10

I can't remember the last time I posted in the forums as I've been here long enough (since 2011) to remember when MFP took away the functions that made the forums fun and worth interacting, but here I am, because MFP is about to make yet another huge error in judgment. I haven't logged a single bite of food in this app in over 10 years, and yet I log into MFP again and again for one very simple feature - the Newsfeed. Despite the glitches and the shutdowns, we kept coming back, hitting refresh, logging in and out, just to see if MFP started working again and made our Newsfeed visible. We complained, we growled, we were annoyed, BUT we always came back. It certainly wasn't because MFP is such an amazing calorie tracker. I sincerely hope your paid users are part of the "few" members who use and love the Newsfeed feature and make the right decision to take their money elsewhere, because we all know those of us who do not pay for premium are of little consequence. You are making a grave error here, MFP. Hopefully it's not too late to save your downfall.14

Go to the customer support, tell the bot it's useless and get an option to email mfp. Email mfp to ask for the newsfeed. I have, got a generic answer, replied again with save the newsfeed. Spam the hell out of them until they cave.8

This is one of the most ridiculous decisions / enhancements made yet. In the reasoning behind the change, MFP states that the news feed is not really used. WTAF? Not sure where you asked, or how those stats were gathered, but they're WRONG.
Everyone I know, and my current news feed (in general) is flooded with grief about the upcoming change.
MFP states that instead we can use the news feed in the community section... yeah sure. I can post my updates there and than anyone from the forums can click on my pic and see what I share - but it's all or nothing. Everyone and their dog can see my stuff, or noone.
Oh well if we don't like that absolute lack of privacy (my current news feed is one of my only true safe spaces to share in), then we are encouraged to create private groups.
So how does that work? I create my own private group and invite my friends to post in there. Great. I can see their stuff and they can see mine. But if they want their friends to see their stuff, those people also have to join the private group, and so on, and so forth. Again, opening my curated feed to the larger public.
Neither of these options are even REMOTELY like for like. This is a huge loss and may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I've already heard people sharing their IG and TikTok feeds. Wonder if you're shooting yourself in the pocketbook, MFP.21 -
If it ain't broke leave it alone...I have been a member for awhile now ...Please do not get rid of the newsfeed... I enjoy seeing what my friends are doing and communicated with them .. I think this is a very bad idea ..Please reconsider9

SAVE THE NEWSFEED!! It's how most of us get inspiration and support!8

👋 Hi, popping in to say I'm seeing your tags and discussions and doing my best to read all of your feedback and pass it along.
It may take me some time to respond to questions, but just know that I am seeing them and trying to find or think of solutions for the things that I can control.14 -
MFP is saying that the newsfeed isn’t well used, I know that’s wrong. That is where I spend the majority of my time here and I know that’s true of my friends as well. The newsfeed is the one and only feature that makes MFP stand apart from the other like apps. With the newsfeed and friends, MFP stands miles above all the other apps. Take away the newsfeed and MFP is just another calorie tracking app in a sea of calorie tracking apps. I am already looking for a new place to go and to take my premium membership with me. 😢14

I whole hearted agree with all the above messages.
The newsfeed is the the reason I'm here. I've met many of you in real life even.
We are real people here with real friendships!
Six years now and a Paying member.
@Betty
Thank you!9 -
I mostly use MFP for the newfeed. I've made some really great people on here. The newsfeed is a safe place for me to share my progress without annoying my family and friends who Almont understand. The newsfeed keeps me updated on My Peeps. This is my main reason for keeping MFP.10

I was so disappointed to find the email from MFP announcing they're getting rid of the news feed! I love keeping up with my MFPeeps there! I would miss it so much if they go ahead. Please keep the news feed, MFP!7

@Betty - I bet this app will lose a lot of money because people will not renew their PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTIONS!! Having the privacy and friendships in the NEWSFEED is an extremely unique and important part of MyFitnessPal. I for one will be one of those that will not renew premium if a GREAT solution is not found for keeping the newsfeed or its equivalent for us to keep our privacy and our friends!
Since you say you’re STAFF you surely must have some means of stressing the importance of keeping the newsfeed to the developers. PLEASE HELP US!! - thanks!!14 -
This is a horrible corporate failing. People have been on the MFP Newsfeed for many years and have developed very close attachments that have encouraged them along their health journey. I really despise the canned corporate excuses for canceling the Newsfeed. I wonder if their advertisers realize how much they fail to listen to their customers? It is typical of an uncaring corporate approach to business.13
