How About We Don't Delete Newsfeeds
Replies
-
I use it daily.
Disagree that the newsfeed is a duplicate of the community forum.
The newsfeed is private, community forum is public.
The newsfeed is a personal hub to see all of your friends achievements, posts, comments in one central, personal location.— The community forum requires that you input each friend’s screen names one by one to communicate. If you have 80 friends… that’s a ludicrous amount of time and wholly inefficient. These things would make MFP more interactive and motivational
Many users are flagging that their newsfeeds are already highly interactive and motivational. This is the essence of the support pal user experience and why so many will miss it. It’s been the most positive impact of the app experience for them.

Just FYI, let me introduce you to the organisation who owns MyFitnessPal and 168 other companies. Check out the list!
https://www.franciscopartners.com/investments
Then, "in 2021, MyFitnessPal partnered with Sprouts Farmers Market. Through this partnership, users were introduced to new healthy recipe ideas, food and health-related articles and other content."
https://www.sprouts.com/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MyFitnessPal
"The past five years have seen steady revenue and usage growth for MyFitnessPal, although not much has changed from the original app vision. Under Armour struggled to build out its connected fitness segment, scaling back on its hardware ambitions in the past few years after multiple failures.
In 2020, Under Armour decided it was time to shift focus, with a new CEO, Patrik Frisk, focused more on apparel and less on the technology side. It sold MyFitnessPal for $345 million to investment firm Francisco Partners, $130 million lower than the price it had acquired it for in 2015.
The fact that no major tech company jumped for MyFitnessPal when it was for sale may be indicative of how the industry views MyFitnessPal’s rather unrefined advertising platform and its low conversion rate of its everyday users to its premium subscription service.
Since the acquisition, there hasn’t been much change on the app. The subscription service is pushed a bit more heavily, but for the most part, everyday usage is the same as it was with Under Armour. Francisco Partners have not said what its plans are with the app long-term."

@Machka9
Ok and? What’s your objective in posting that?
So Francisco owns multiple companies… and? They are a private equity firm, of course they have a diverse portfolio.
It stands to be seen how they are calculating the growth of MFP or what the vision is, MFP has been getting low marks for transparency. They just hired a new CEO and Chief of Product Experience. I hope they are reading the community boards.
With the impending change of the newsfeeds, they are miscalculating the importance of user experience.
Companies focused on greater user-focused experience benefit from greater customer loyalty, increased revenue, a higher market valuation, and better-performing stock.
- From WSJ and Forbes about valuation of UX. (User eXperience)
The value of user experience is the prime factor that ensures a site sustains a visitor's engagement beyond a catchy headline or sharp graphic. It's also the quality of a site's UX design that determines whether they will return. Focus on usability and accessibility to keep users happy and engaged.

But hey… if they don’t want the paid users (me) who have had premium subscriptions or the free ones that up ⬆️ the value of their advertisements.. they leave an open market for someone else to fill.
In my 10+ years on MFP - I have never seen this many people passionate about a change in the platform … the same users who have only stayed through the years of technical mishaps and meager development because of their personal network on their very active newsfeeds.15 -

I visited the Play Store again today. It still lists the app as 4.2 stars overall, but if you look at the reviews from the last couple of months, they are atrocious. I think the 2 million old reviews have created quite a buffer for the overall rating, but h-o-l-y-c-o-w. People are ticked about all the features being taken away from the free version (bar code scanning, calorie goal adjustment), and I even saw a couple mentions about the newsfeed! It may not look like it yet on the outside, but we are making an impact!
I agree - Keep speaking up!9 -

I have seen such passionate expressions elsewhere, not too long after, the sites were sold off or completely changed direction or outright closed.
I did a cursory search for another site with free tools and a robust community that includes friends, groups, forum discussions and privacy features.... did not find anything.
At one time, these types of communities seemed to have higher levels of robust active community participation. I am not sure why the decline, perhaps the rise of other conversation/video platforms that have subjects/content beyond weight management and health.
Personally, the uproar speaks loudly of a real need for the 'friend & privacy' feature combined with health tools and public discussions.
Would hope that the owners/devs can restore this resource and continue to grow this site as a full featured resource. I continue to believe there remains a profound need for these tools and services.9 -
I just checked iPhone App Store… users have been leaving 1 star reviews and citing the loss of the newsfeed!4

What the hell MFP??!! I've been on MFP for 10 years!!! The newsreel is a way to stay connected and motivated. Way to ruin something positive. 🤨10

I’ve said for years that, yeah, it’s a free site, but no one eats or pays housenotes by working for a free site.
But people are wholly invested in “free”. Witness the outrage when scanning became part of a paid subscription.
OTOH, conversion rates are low because the subscription fee is so high, and the benefits for buying in are nominal. No ads. Yay! A scanning tool that’s reliable maybe 30% of the time (I know, crowdsourced entries yada yada). I can’t even think of any other benefits. Oh, you can download data to keep or share with medical personnel or trainers, , but the format it downloads in is utterly useless.
At least they don’t make you listen to 90 seconds of ridiculous, offensive ads like a photo editing app I paid for years ago, but seldom use unless in the utmost need.
I fully expect MFP to either go all subscription, or fade into the sunset.
I was a huge Ebay user and seller back in the day. They ignored their users, cue outrage, and the site is nothing to what it used to be. I had 10,000+ transactions there- and haven’t visited the site in years, they made me so angry. Feeling very Deja vu with MFP.
Anyway, I checked my friends count this morning. I keep it weeded out, and just did so a couple weeks ago, so my friends were all active users. My friends list has shrunk by a fraction under 10%. Others are preparing to leave by sharing various social media outlets where they can be found.
There’s a serious amount of resistance to groups, and people are either so utterly confused by the activity feed, or have found out with their first visit to it how cumbersome it is to use that they’re fleeing for (mostly) IG. They’re also angry enough that they’re moving to other, ironically and presumably paid calorie counting platforms.
This whole mess just bespeaks poor planning, and lack of interest in how users use the site.
If I’d spent a bazillion dollars to buy an app/website, you can damn well bet I’d have an account there and be poking around and engaging, and require several corporate office employees to do same.13 -

@Betty I’m getting reports from friends (via groups) that their feed is now gone and they can no longer access their friends list to send private messages.
We were assured the friends list would remain for this purpose. What’s the deal? Should we be writing down names of friends?
Heads up for yall who want to stay in touch with friends, in case this is not resolved.5 -

Hi @springlering62, Yes the feed will likely start going away for folks. However the Friend's list should not be impacted. If anyone is having issues accessing their friends list please contact support by clicking on this link: https://myfitnesspal.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new or send an email to support@myfitnesspal.com with your device information, and exact problem and our support team will investigate.1 -

Currently, I can see the feed, but can’t see my profile and can’t see the profiles of most of my friends.

I was just checking on the iPhone App Store out of curiosity and pretty much the only recent reviews there now are 5 stars and not one mentions the newsfeed, only the barcode scanner moving to Premium.
Interesting.5 -

Even though it's not what we want to hear, I really appreciate @Betty connecting with us directly. Thanks for at least hearing our concerns.
