@springlering62 , thanks for the heads up, I just took a screenshot of my friends list.2

MFP has been an important place in my life, sad to see it falling apart. 😔
Same here. 11 years of people following my progress and maintenance steps and vice versa. Lost my newsfeed this morning and with it went my only social media app. Bye friends 😞7 -
Newsfeed gone as of last night for me. RIP friends!5

I was just checking on the iPhone App Store out of curiosity and pretty much the only recent reviews there now are 5 stars and not one mentions the newsfeed, only the barcode scanner moving to Premium.
Interesting.
So interesting.. I went back and scrolled through after I read your post @COGypsy and on Tuesday.. many people edited former 9 month- 1year old reviews.. so they look like recent.
Notice the dates of the developer responses from last June, July, September and beyond when the reviews originated. There are dozens of these.
What a coincidence that Tuesday is when people started posting on the forum to leave critical feedback for MFP on app stores.

@Betty
Seriously if MFP put this much effort into fixing the glitches of MFP I don't think we'd be talking about the newsfeed going
So sad that Mfp is stooping so low
Please pass this on the the BIG GUYS since they refuse to share their contact information4 -
LOSE IT is a great replacement for MFP. A lot of people have already started accounts. It is free or 15 dollars a month. It has a news feed..7
-
Many of the accounts on here are bots or trolls and many accounts are stagnant. MFP should acquire a real business model and get rid of those unused and bot accounts..... like Google is finally starting to do. And have you noticed that folks on the community pages are now on the older side? You know, the group most interested in the News Feed feature? Seems like MFP is being lazy AND shooting themselves in the foot. Some good business opportunities for them if they would only consider their clientele and how to serve their needs by providing, or keeping, a unique product.5
-
By the way — that link about MFP having 200 M users - is self reported from MFP.
“MyFitnessPal said it had 200 million users when it was sold by Under Armour to Francisco Partners.”
What constitutes a user? A download? Does it matter if the person is active?
—> How many people are active on the community boards of those millions?
It is also a fraction.. are the community boards being retired next since by the same logic - it’s a small number of users compared to the supposed # of millions?6 -
Allow me to offer a translation of Betty's post..
We are tired of breaking the news feed every time we upgrade our ad serving applications. The feed is too old and does not support current ad serving standards. Yeah we know you love it but if we cannot show you more ads then you might as well not be here. Come see your new activity feed with state of the art ads!
Anyone remember when users had blogs? They were insanely popular. So popular that MFP tried mixing their paid ad blogs in with them to get some accidental clicks. Did it work? Nope. So they took away the user blogs in the belief that users would start clicking on them if there was no competition from user blogs. Now all we have is ad blogs that absolutely no one wants to see.
Yeah, that was a sad moment when they took away the blogs. There were so many great and inspirational ones out there.6 -
Seems to me that the problem is that MFP has too many free users using free features. While I'm sure some people in the company feel less than good about pissing so many people off, what does it matter if users leave if they never paid in the first place?
Well.. the free, long term members, the ones who post educated feedback and suggestions in the forums, the ones who grab hold of new members (who WILL and DO pay) and help them along their way... they're a form of intellectual assets that you cannot value on a balance sheet.
I get that nothing is free... so run a poll to see how much people would be willing to pay for a news feed. I know that I won't pay a pile of money for micro tracking and all the extra features, but I would have been willing to pay a smaller annual subscription for a STABLE and USEABLE news feed, bar code scanner and reliable diary with macro tracking.
Give us options to pay something but not an astronomical amount. Create a tiered payment structure, and maybe you'd see some of that influx of dough that the stupid ads all over our newsfeed don't generate.
If you don't care about your free users, then find a way to soak them for a bit of coin and they can pay for your developers to do a better job of the feed.
I have been using mfp for free for 14 years (or more). I've made lifelong friends, they helped me through an abusive divorce, the loss of family, pets, children who were suicidal and struggling with chronic pain disorders. The news feed was THE ONLY safe place from my ex (who stalked me relentlessly) and the only place where I could truly be ME and still feel loved.
I am grieving the loss of that community now.
I just wish you would have asked us how much we'd have been willing to pay to keep it around. You might have been surprised.17 -

I've been wondering that too. Has anyone else noticed that the bots that used to come through the Feature Suggestions and Tech Support boards don't seem to be around lately? None of the "Great idea! I'll pass it on to the team!" and the "Apologies, please contact support" messages are popping up like they usually do. Makes you wonder if MFP is in the process of shutting the boards down as well.2 -

2) it isn't connected to our announcements (logging streak, weight loss, exercises) for passive feedback (and shouldn't be because it is in a completely different section).
3) it's less personal and cultivated and prone to heated discussions and spam.
4) private groups requires moderating unlike our Newsfeed and many users don't have time for that role or responsibility so it will decline in activity and interest.
5) your Profile information is not completely private when it switches to the Community section and is the new Home Page (replacing the News Feed in the MFP section). The information that you enter about yourself and your photos are public and the only section that is private is the Activity Feed. Members might not want their photos and information made public.
6) you cannot edit or delete your posts after an hour. On the Newsfeed, you can edit a post by deleting it and posting a corrected version (crappy workaround but better than nothing and there is no time limit on that).
Sad that members are being fragmented and scattered due to the cold corporate decision to force the "community" section on them mistaking "community" for what they have been enjoying with the News Feed.
The personalized and private Newsfeed was one of the few things that was working right after other desirable features has been slowly chipped away. The following motto does not apply to MFP: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Perfectly said 👏
Please forward on Betty....if anyone is actually listening4 -
Please save our newsfeed…my fitness pals have helped me so much, it’s harder to navigate in the community section…we use the newsfeed to encourage, motivate, support and inspire one another, it’s like we’re losing a great group of friends! It makes no sense to get rid of it, when it goes, I will be leaving MFP
Save the newsfeed!!!5 -
Don't delete newsfeed I like seeing the updates from my friends list whenever I log on2

Just wanted to clarify that we aren't bots- every post you see from a staff member is a real person- and we have no plans or intention of removing our community forums.9 -

I'd like to add that notifications regarding private groups get lost in the flood of notifications from threads, (especially if you have responded to one of those threads that generates thousands of notifications), and unless you want ALL notifications sent to your phone (if that's even possible), you're not notified of an interaction until you log into the community to check.5 -
You all really just ignored the voices of your apps’s biggest fans. We stuck with you and accepted all of your faults. Also it’s not true that the newsfeed was not widely utilized because it was the middle button on the app for the longest time up until its quick and sudden death. What I think happened was something broke like it usually does and it was determined that the code (as simple as it was) was not worth the price of an actual fix.
Can we be real for a minute? Do the decision makers really think that MFP has the best forum or something? Because forums are not unique and have been around since the 90s. The apps best feature was the newsfeed because it allowed people to come together and build relationships. Without it, I think those of us heavy users just want something that gives us what you just took away. Are you all not paying attention? Thousands of people were active in the newsfeed daily.4 -

👋 Hi, just chiming in again to say I'm continuing to read and pass along your feedback.
In regards to the forums, I'll work on collecting feedback and see what is possible with our forum providers to make improvements here. I can't make any promises, but always happy to research what can and can't be done here.6 -
👋 Hi, just chiming in again to say I'm continuing to read and pass along your feedback.
Instead of just passing along feedback how about actually giving us some answers! Why is mfp already removing people’s newsfeeds? Why can’t we access our friends or our own profiles? Why will diary or exercises logged not post to our pages anymore? All these features being removed is the only reason many of us have stuck around. Get your *kitten* together and start listening to us!

We're losing the Newsfeed which is all right because not many of us used it. It has always been kind of a duplicate of the Community Forum, and mine is full of automatic posts when someone closed their diary for the day or did some exercise.
But more importantly, will we still have access to the Food Diary, Exercise Log, Reports, etc.?
Also, will our new profiles have a Goals area?
That's something I'd like to see ... Food and Exercise Goals. Whether the goal is to lose a certain amount of weight, or drink a certain amount of water in a day, or consume a certain number of carbs, or cycle a certain distance or whatever.
I'd like to see reports and progress bars as we move toward our goal.
I'd like to see challenges similar to what Strava has ... some exercise ones like walking 50 km in a month, or exercising 15 minutes a day each day of a month, etc., and some diet ones like logging each day of a month.
These things would make MFP more interactive and motivational.
Sorry for the delay @Machka9, I've been trying to get caught up on tags.- You will still have access to the Food Diary, Exercise Log, Reports, etc.
- We do have the option to add some fields to the Community Profiles (like goals or other freeform about me fields). I'll make it an action item to create poll to see if there is interest in that and what y'all would like to see.
- As for things like new or updated reports and progress bars, I think that's a great idea and will pass it along to the product teams.
- I think challenges are fun too and can also pass along that suggestion.

As much as I look forward to checking MFP during the day to check my progress, I looked forward to seeing my friends’ progress, too. To say I was gutted when I realized this removal of the feed was intentional and not a glitch is an understatement. I guess I’ll be moving elsewhere and taking my friends with me — because I know we all enjoyed cheering each other on from inside the app, right there in an easy-to-access tab. Shame on you, MFP.6
-
Newsfeed gone, yet - for those that still have it because their app is updated yet, I still see the notifications of their likes on my statuses that are still being auto posted to the now ghosted-newsfeed.
It's like a slap in the face.6 -
I'm really sad about how the optimism in this thread seems to be dwindling since I last checked it, and understandably so.
I've been using MFP almost every single day since March 2016. Even on the days where I didn't log food (which is pretty rare), I still checked out what other people were up to on my newsfeed. I might have come for the database, but I stayed for the community. When life gets busy and I haven't had time to keep up with my newsfeed, I miss it. I have made many good friends from my interactions there.
And no, I'm not a paying member, but I still see adverts and the more 'free members' that leave as a result of the retirement of the news feed, the fewer people there'll be to show ads to. Incidentally, I probably would have upgraded my membership to premium years ago if the app wasn't so glitchy. If you want to make more money, MFP, fix the glitches and keep the newsfeed!
I'm going to be checking out alternative apps. I'm currently exploring Fooducate, which has a community element/news feed to it. Anyone else tried that?6 -
I recently returned to MFP because of two reasons. It seems to have the most comprehensive database of foods for logging and the newsfeed feature helps me to feel motivated by cheering on friends and vice versa. Realizing that I came back just in time for the newsfeed to be removed feels pretty damn bad. The forums definitely feel way more public and don't offer the same personal touch. If anyone knows of an app with a similar breadth of pre-logged items, I'm all ears.
My newsfeed has already gone dead which is super demotivating. Kind of takes away, the purpose in making new fitness friends here..5 -

I moved over to Lose It! It’s taken a week to adjust but it’s going well. The newsfeed functions a little differently but it’s there and with a little time, I think I will like it.

It still does not provide a safe and secure space....everyonevon mfp can see you in the community. And don't say there's groups...time is a commodity and I don't have it to go to groups everyday. The newsfeed provided the safety and security and you could catch up with friends in a timely manner!! Adios MFP7
