JUNE 2024 Monthly Running Challenge
WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the MAY 2024 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10914491/may-2024-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until June 1, 2024 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/21182-monthly-running-challenges
Bookmark the previous and past challenges: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10393468/current-past-challenges#latest
Find a small group of runners that encourage and offer food support:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10573619/runners-that-need-some-nutritional-accountability#latest
Note: we also have a group on Strava and Facebook.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the bookmark in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.comandcreate your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.

You may see some phrases / words that are unique to our little group when it comes to describing some of our runs. It is a mash-up of words that seem to best describe the way the run felt that day. Here are some examples. Feel free to come up with your own to add to the dictionary 😃

Gonna dial down mileage a touch...
(Did i mention I did 200 miles already? Oh I didn't? ... I did 200 miles in May!
Ok... Enough lol... Sorry! )
Gonna go 170 miles.
(30 * 9k)8 -
I am going to aim to increase my mileage a bit in June (minimum 200km). Also, I would love to get some of the motivation back I had during my marathon training! That was such a good feeling. So, fingers crossed I can find a state of running zen in June after having a couple “easier/lower mileage” months. Oh yeah, and DO the strength training and speed work!6
-
Maintain daily streak, keep trying to push up the miles6
-
I'm in for 75 miles this month.7
-
Hi guys. The 2nd part of May was a bit of an exercise disaster for me but hope June will be better so going for 50 miles again6
-
@tarun_yadavA Did you run 200 miles last month? I don't know why you aren't bragging about that.
I'm torn as to what to set as a goal for the month. Since I don't have any trips planned, I think I'll try for 80 miles (fast walking and running) and see how it goes. Plus, getting back to the gym for at least 3 days a week.8 -
Aiming for 100 miles this month. It will be the first one this year. Gotta get my base back.5
-
I ended up 121 for May out of 110 goal. Did someone say they did 200? Absolutely totally amazing!!! 🙃 I mean it's not like we have folks here who regularly do 400 plus miles a month right @AlphaHowls 😳🔥🔥🔥
june is a 30 day month so I am going to shoot for 100 mile goal . Good luck and nice to see everyone here.6 -
I will not have a mileage goal for June but just aiming to continue with c210k, which means completing week 8 of the programme by the end of the month.
I completed week 4 this morning (I'm in the UK); ended up at 5k on a very hilly course so feeling quite exhausted but very pleased with myself now ☺️9 -
Good morning all!
Thank you @AlphaHowls for setting up this June thread!
After taking a bit of a running break from May (I only got in about 30 officially Garmin recorded miles in May) I’m going to give 45 miles a go for June (figuring 1.5 mile per day average). I have a 5K race on Sunday June 16th, which will be hilly (I hate hills - lots of them where I live).
🎉🎉Congrats @tarun_yadavA on your 200 mile month! I agree with the others - you really should speak up and brag about it!! 😆
Nice job everyone!!
Maybe we should total up everyone’s miles this month and see what we cover as a group.
Enjoy June all!!! Happy running, walking, jogging, wunning, wogging……8 -
Sounds like you are doing great @josefinejem ! We have a couple of other folks on here from the UK.
You're doing great too @daria0919 . I love the area we live in, but those hills when running are killers. Good luck with your 5K in a couple of weeks. Which one are you doing?1 -
I'm going to set my goal at 125 miles for June. I'm taking today as a rest day. I hate to miss the first day of the month, but I also hate to rearrange my schedule which I have done a lot the last few weeks. So I will rest today and get out for my long run tomorrow.5

I’m looking forward to being more consistent with my running so I’m so glad I found this group! I have long term 10k goals, but want to keep working on my 5k and running overall before I start trying to reach too far 😂 I’ll get there!
Looking forward to seeing you crush these goals too!7 -
6/1 13.24 miles Crazy Laps! Rain and Mom confused
Only way out of the mire I put myself in...dig in and push. I can continue this downward spiral and gain more weight, or I can do what I can do, with whatever time I have. My whining has to stop. There will not always be alone time on country roads. I have to work with the present and be where my feet are today.
133.4 lbs. June 1, 2024
Got my run, walk, workout and stationary bike done.8 -
June Running Goal: 34 runs, 40 miles
0.3 lbs.weight loss gain (241.2 lbs -> 241.5 lbs)
I'm Chris; I live in San Diego, California. Running is good for me, and I enjoy myself more when I have a running routine. I am still very much needing to work on obesity.
As this year's running has been very spotty, last month I focused on trying to build a running habit. Happily I met my goal, running a short and simple 1 mile neighborhood run everyday. I am still not in the habit of daily food logging, I'm trying to get back at it and have it be a part of my daily again. My MFP food diary is open and ya'll should see me complete it most days.
For June, I am going to run everyday (in the evening) on my 1 mile neighborhood loop, at an easy (read: slow) pace, under 13 min/mile. On Sundays I'm going to do two-a-days. I'll get up and go run somewhere else for around two to three miles, and still do the evening mile. June is for keeping consistent and starting to add a bit more endurance. I'm taking one three day trip this month, so I'll miss one longer Sunday run, but I'm going to still try and run a mile everyday even when I'm traveling. (a retirement party and huge music festival all in Los Angeles. An army of decrepit 80s punk bands all gathering for one last hurrah.)
Please connect on Garmin if you have one.

Hey newbies!
@katrose1985 @josefinejem @swarthoutw @Vio_let23 @steviebee888 @Leigh_b
Here is the June running challenge thread. Just bookmark the thread, and type in your monthly goal.
Last month was last month. No regrets, it's history(Like Groundhogs Day!) Wipe the slate clean, make a June goal, and start off this month strong. I hope to see you around.5 -
Welcome @andja87 . It's great that you already know @daria0919 ! Apparently, Happy Birthday wishes are in order too.
@AlphaHowls . Hang in there. Hugs and prayers for you and your mom. You did great getting all of that in today.
@chris_in_cal You are doing great with the streak and sounds like you have a great plan for June. I am on Garmin connect, but have never used the community part. I'll see if I can find you and "connect."

Jun 1 - Walk 0.70 miles - Ran 1.40 miles - driveway laps - trimmed trees
2.10/80 mile goal
Since I only "ran" under 6 miles last month, I have decided to start a plan I have to run the driveway for 30 min without stopping. It's a wunning plan - runs will be run/walks. Today I walked 0.35 miles for warm up and cool down and then did 10 x 1/1 min run/walk. Avg pace for the "run" was 13:49 min/mile. I'm okay with that. (The program is for every other day, but I may do it most days and hopefully finish it before the planned 20 weeks. LOL) Some days I'll add distance because I need to be able to do 10K the first of August - not a race, but my birthday. At least, that is my plan today. It can always change.
I keep trying to use the tickerfactory, but it won't let me select a ruler - the page keeps refreshing. Today, I tried it on my phone and the same thing happens. Any ideas as to why that is happening? I used it when I first joined this group, so have no clue as to what happened.

June Running Goal: 40 miles
Since, I'm starting back with running/walking, my goal will be 40 miles. On my Garmin app, I have another goal of running/walking for 10 hours. Today, I ran/walked 2.7 miles/40. This was a little difficult run, but my goal is to be consistent with my training as I prepare for 10K this month.7 -
@AlphaHowls I'm pulling for you and cheering you on.
At the lakefront park this morning. Saw my running partner, P, who had been out of town. We have one 5K race this month on Fathers' Day weekend. I think.
6/1 - 3.34 Miles. 54F, Clear. Saw my running friend P this morning.

I'm on a self-created c25k, I signed up for a 7/4/2024 race and hope to feel good and strong on race day. When is your 10K, how many more weeks of prep?4 -
Neighborhood 1Mile (at 13"42 pace). streak day 32
For my birthday ASICS emailed me a $10 USD discount coupon. I bit. My new shoes will be here in a couple of days. I'll have a month to run in them before race day. That should work.7 -
Yay. New people. Welcome!
Missed my June 1 run as I wasn’t feeling flash. Had a lazy day instead.
Headed out into the forest this morning for my 12k long run. My plan for this month is to increase that by 2k each week, dropping back to 12k for the first weekend in July and repeating that. The aim being to increase my base fitness and be not far from half marathon fitness at all times.
Forest was lovely today, as usual. Very mild for the first weekend of winter.
Found a very cute toadstool, heaps of fat and very cute fantails (who refused to stay put long enough for me to photograph them), and a pair of downed trees across the road, thwarting all mountain bikers and horse riders (ha!). The photo doesn’t do it justice, those trees are pretty massive.7 -
Morning all.
Got in 3.3M (at 09"41).
Was off ill yesterday. Upset stomach (weekly occurrence this!? ..... did eat some spicy food Friday night!? 🤷)
Anyways. Took it easy today.
But already behind the 8ball on my 170 m goal.
@quilteryoyo @SummerSkier @daria0919 LOVE the banter, ladies 😂
@josefinejem hello! Where in England are you?
I'm in Canada Water, London.
@TheMrWobbly is from England too.
So is @eleanorhawkins ... Till she went all Patatas Bravas on us! Lol 😉6 -
Great running @chris_in_cal ! Looking forward to seeing some shoe porn. When is your birthday?
@ContraryMaryMary Great running and plan! Love the toadstool and glad the trees gave you the path to yourself. I assume you had to go around. When I first read your post, I thought that you were saying that you saw "heaps of fat," and was wondering what in the world that was. Then I reread and realized I had subconsciously added a comma to your sentence. I had to look up fantails. They are a really pretty bird.
@tarun_yadavA I'm so sorry you were sick yesterday! I hope it isn't a weekly occurrence. Glad you felt like running today.

Good Morning Runners!

I will set an unrealistic goal of 65 miles this month🤞9
