Fingers crossed as Son is planning to pick up his two hounds today. The one that seems to be part Great Dane is going on 11 years old and cannot get up the back porch stairs so DH has had to go get him several times a day. The other one is a really fat and needy mix that sheds black hair wherever she walks. I will be doing a lot of vacuuming when they leave.

Debbie ~ The kittens are adorable! We had a siamese mix for 15 years and we loved that cat dearly. Could you teleport them to me?

Annie, Heather, John, and others ~ Quick healing thoughts for you.

Tracey - you have such a gift working with young people. I'm crossing my fingers you can find employment that pays enough for you to stay in that field, at least some of the time. Those freezie sleeves are a great idea, and the little gifts you made for the students were very nice.

Rita - your areas sure is getting the weather! Cute little furry bug you found there. ;):p Good job doing the yoga! I did a few stretches this morning, think it helped.

Annie - hope you feel better. Nice that your dad has his time at the senior center today and you can sleep or do whatever you want.

Yesterday I received an email from the diabetes prevention class coach. She said she's been unable to figure the calories and macros for us and said she hopes to get that information to us next week. No problem for me, I'll continue on with what I think will work and I bet it will be close. Just for giggles I put in my stats in to let MFP calculate calories needed and macros to lose 1/2 lb per week. Calories were much lower than I generally eat each day. The stunner was 200 gm of carbs allowed. :# I try to keep them at 100 or below.

She also sent along the lesson plan for next Monday - strength training. :p

This morning I dug out my old Keen Presidio shoes and am going to start wearing them more - see if my feet are happier. I used to wear them all the time, then DH complained I was "clunking around" the house so I switched to New Balance which were quieter, and fit OK at the time, but I wonder about the support in shoes with cushioned soles as time goes on. I know they are fine for some folks. I will ask the orthotics guy when I see him next week for a fitting. The orthotics I got from him 5 years ago were originally designed for these hard soled Keen shoes.

Just finished half an hour of weed eating. It's getting warm so I'm done for a while, maybe all day.

Felt really 'off' in the afternoon, fluey, so did a covid test. Negative. I have two left in this packet, so I've ordered another ten. John will test again on Monday night before he goes to pick up Bea on Tuesday. The hip pain has subsided now. I'm writing this at 1 am, because I've woken up. Did a few loosening up exercises for my back and neck.

My brother rang yesterday to see how I was getting on. He is preparing to have a house full over the summer. Decorating a couple of spare rooms in preparation for the onslaught. His son is paying the decorator, because they are moving in. In order to escape from the upheaval, he and DSIL went for a two night hotel break in Arundel, a famous castle town near us. The beach car park nearby charged £13.50 for the day! How times have changed!
Baby Finley is doing really well, and the parents are coping well with their trans adventure.

My friends will be having good weather while they are here. I hope to be able to get within outside shouting distance at some point. If it wasn't for their difficult situations, I might be inclined to test and risk it, but it's up to them. If I don't get it, I don't know how! :o Every sneeze, I think, this is it!
DDIL says she has heard of a lot of people with it.

I'm enjoying watching a series I started a few years ago from Walter Presents. Nordic Murders. This is the last few. It's in German, and set on a real island in the Baltic Sea, called Usedom. It's divided between Germany and Poland. I haven't studied any German for over a year, as I was doing Norwegian for my cruise last year, and they are similar. But it's nice to get back to the language. I definitely need the subtitles though!

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Calories: I'm 5'6" (or maybe slightly less now), and I have found that I maintain at about 1500 calories and lose fairly consistently at about 1350 calories. The area between may give me a very, very slow loss with ups and downs.

I will feel hungry at 1350 calories, but fortunately, there's exercise!

Carbohydrates: They aren't all bad. In fact, many of them can be very good for us and one of the main things they do is to provide us with energy.

"Carbohydrates are one of the three macronutrients that occur naturally in plant foods, including peas and beans, nuts and seeds, grains, dairy and dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.

The other two macronutrients are dietary fats and proteins.

Carbohydrates are considered essential nutrients for the body to function properly by several global health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHOTrusted Source). Their primary role is to provide energy to all cells in the body."

    ...

Generally, there are three types of carbohydrates: sugars, starches, and dietary fiber.

It is possible to classify them further as simple or complex carbs, depending on the number and type of sugar molecules — such as glucose — that each structure contains."

The article continues with much more detail.

"Research has linked diets rich in these complex carbohydrates — such as the Mediterranean dietTrusted Source — with anti-inflammatory benefits, lowered insulin resistance, and a reduced risk of chronic diseases.

The researchers attribute many of these benefits to the dietary fiber content of complex carbohydrates.

For instance, the dietary fiber in whole fruits improves long-term weight management and supports regular bowel movements and healthy aging.

Furthermore, boosting the quality of the diet by including more complex carbs and dietary fiber can lead to improvements in some of the effects of PCOS, such as insulin resistance and elevated androgens.

A 2020 review found that the dietary fiber in whole grain foods confers several health benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, gut disorders, cancer, and diabetes."

The article continues with much more detail.

"Despite the popularity of low carbohydrate diets, they are not suitable for everyone, and some populations still benefit from a carbohydrate-rich diet.

For example, endurance athletic performance becomes compromised on a low carbohydrate diet, and a high carbohydrate intake remains the most evidence-backed choice for elite athletes.

Among members of the general population with high carbohydrate intake, significant reductions in blood sugar levels — potentially promoting the remission of prediabetes — occur when the daily intake of carbohydrates is reduced.

Therefore, for populations that consume 65–75% of their daily calories from carbohydrates, experts recommend reducing carbohydrate calories to 50–55% of daily intake and increasing protein.

A carbohydrate restriction of 45% or less of daily calories is more effective for short-term blood sugar control, but it may be unsustainable and does not provide greater long-term results than a range of 50–55% of daily calories from carbohydrates.

Before making changes to their diet, people should speak with a doctor or registered dietitian to determine their specific carbohydrate needs to optimize their health outcomes."
