Good morning ladies!
This cold or COVID or whatever it is is nasty. My chest aches from coughing. Sleeping was a challenge.
I can hear Dad upstairs. He worked on his jigsaw puzzle until his back gave out last night. I thought he would sleep in at least past six.
My sister sent me a lovely care package yesterday. I was feeling like I hadn't gotten enough done, just dinner and a shower, but I guess I should be pleased just keeping up when I am sick.
So dad has his four hour session today, and I might finally get on his computer, or I might sleep.
Have a tremendous day, or just a peaceful day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Fingers crossed as Son is planning to pick up his two hounds today. The one that seems to be part Great Dane is going on 11 years old and cannot get up the back porch stairs so DH has had to go get him several times a day. The other one is a really fat and needy mix that sheds black hair wherever she walks. I will be doing a lot of vacuuming when they leave.
Debbie ~ The kittens are adorable! We had a siamese mix for 15 years and we loved that cat dearly. Could you teleport them to me?
Annie, Heather, John, and others ~ Quick healing thoughts for you.

A large church (Waymaker Church) van came to the park yesterday to bring the refugees supplies. DH went around asking everyone if they were refugees then the van gave them food, water, and other supplies to help them. DH was given 3 cases of water for helping everyone. That was nice of all of them.
The fire area was hit with a big storm that brought hail and 2 inches of rain in 2 hours. Very bad for here as the ground doesn’t absorb the water. The hail was so bad, they had to plow it and several cars, about 30, got stuck on the highway because of the hail and flooding. There is a campground there in Ruidoso that flooded due to that rain as well. They showed pictures of campers stuck in the mud at the campground. That reminded me of when DH and I were in Nevada and stuck in a flash food too!Our flood happened in Nevada at Cathedral Gorge.
Here is another creature I saw yesterday. This one in a spoiler as it is scary for some. But he was friendly and just marched away when I got to close trying to measure it with my foot.

Tracey - you have such a gift working with young people. I'm crossing my fingers you can find employment that pays enough for you to stay in that field, at least some of the time. Those freezie sleeves are a great idea, and the little gifts you made for the students were very nice.
Rita - your areas sure is getting the weather! Cute little furry bug you found there. Good job doing the yoga! I did a few stretches this morning, think it helped.
Annie - hope you feel better. Nice that your dad has his time at the senior center today and you can sleep or do whatever you want.
Yesterday I received an email from the diabetes prevention class coach. She said she's been unable to figure the calories and macros for us and said she hopes to get that information to us next week. No problem for me, I'll continue on with what I think will work and I bet it will be close. Just for giggles I put in my stats in to let MFP calculate calories needed and macros to lose 1/2 lb per week. Calories were much lower than I generally eat each day. The stunner was 200 gm of carbs allowed. I try to keep them at 100 or below.
She also sent along the lesson plan for next Monday - strength training.
This morning I dug out my old Keen Presidio shoes and am going to start wearing them more - see if my feet are happier. I used to wear them all the time, then DH complained I was "clunking around" the house so I switched to New Balance which were quieter, and fit OK at the time, but I wonder about the support in shoes with cushioned soles as time goes on. I know they are fine for some folks. I will ask the orthotics guy when I see him next week for a fitting. The orthotics I got from him 5 years ago were originally designed for these hard soled Keen shoes.
Just finished half an hour of weed eating. It's getting warm so I'm done for a while, maybe all day.

I wish I could send them too you- I know they would be so loved.
First hubby and I had a Siamese mix cat when we first got married( 41yrs ago on Tuesday). We found her mother up in Mendocino and gave her to mom for mother's day- How could she say no to us keeping her when we gave her as a gift. We kept one of her kittens. Sinder was over 16 when she passed away. I buried her at mom and dad's.5 -

Hello, all, from the typical heat of a June afternoon in the Arkansas River Valley. So bright ya gotta wear shades... 😜
Busy couple days, just kinda gave up on everything yesterday, but today has been better. Slept well, which always helps.
Had to push Corey to finally go to the phone store and swap his phone in on a new one today. When he got home Wednesday night, the battery was swelling to the point where it was making me quite nervous, and he was eligible for an upgrade anyway. Not good for our budget, but necessary for his work, and better than having the silly thing catch on fire or even blow up while it's sitting on his hip.
I've got everything to put together a cheesecake for him for tomorrow, with fresh strawberries - today's his actual birthday, but he's always too wiped out on Friday to do anything, or care whether there's dessert or not. He wants to grill a steak tomorrow, and he always grills shrimp for me, so that works. Tonight will be something simple.
Finally got the determination from the VA, and they're going to double my rating from 10% to 20%, which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Basically, I had hoped to get at least enough to make up for my Medicare premiums when those begin next year, and it's almost exactly that much. 🤷🏻♀️Could have been worse.
Other than that, reading and working on the windows - only a few more to go! Also rearranged our bedroom to move the chest-of-drawers and line it up with the footboard of the bed. In so doing, got rid of five years of horribleness under and behind the quite heavy and large chest, which I needed to move anyway to get to the window. And the bedroom works better. Not sure that it's prettier, but it's definitely more efficient, as the chest now faces the closet, so getting dressed will be quite easy. Hopefully I don't stub my toes on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night! 👀😁😜
Next week is labs on Monday, then the hematologist by phone and the gastroenterologist in her office, both on Friday. Information filled week, one hopes.
The man will be home before too long, and I have to scramble out and get the clean sheets off the line, and then jump in the shower to scrub off the grub from all the cleaning and such.
Have a good weekend, my 🐣🐤🐥🐣🐤🐥🐿️🐔🐔🐔🐔,
Love,

🌞Annie is enjoying the sun and I'm sitting in the shade. Jake and Bessie are napping in the house with the air conditioning on. I walked 10 000 steps already so I can relax more this afternoon.
Tracey it is one of the sad facts of life today that care and education of children is not paid well compared to so many other professions. 😥
🙀Jake starts chemo next week. This treatment is in pill form so he can do it at home and he doesn't have to go a medical center for it. Without insurance and a special grant from the hospital it would cost $18,000 a month. Even so, it will be hundreds each month 🙀

Heather - I think you’re smart for protecting others it seems around here it doesn’t matter anymore even though it really does matter a great deal. Employers are being miserable about employee sick calls again, parents are sending kids to school. Except for all of the whining and complaining about how it changed everything it’s like it never happened here.
I hope it was a good dream
I dreamt I opened a store in a very old business that on the inside looked like the “homestead” house my grandmother was raised in. I was telling everyone I would polish all of the old antiques and such and have a successful business.
Annie - I hope you’re feeling better today. How nice of your sister.
Carol - that’s a lot to have two needy dogs to care for.
Rita - kind of that church, what quick changes in weather. Glad you had that in a spoiler!
Lanette - I’m hoping that the answer to the financial aspect comes to me quickly. I think I’m going to buy a ticket to the Oilers 50/50 draw. It’s currently at 5.1 million and a ticket is only $5, the other 50 has been helping so many charities and the children’s hospital here. It grew by 1 million since this afternoon.
Lisa - Happy Birthday to Corey! Cheesecake is my favourite.
Barbie - Annie looks very comfortable. I am hoping something changes so that I can at least sub once in a while. I’m not expecting it this year though as I heard on the news this morning that the province has cut 250 teaching positions at the same time that they have 25000 more students registered for next year.
The students loved their freezie sleeves, they were all shocked that their names were in their favourite colours. I told them how one of their classmates helped me when she was surveying them for their bar graphs.
I received a paper that they had all signed their names on including the teacher and I also received several handwritten thank you notes for their gifts. This is one of them. Today was National Indigenous day in Canada and we had activities from 1220-245 it was a beautiful afternoon to be outside, but my feet are complaining.
I’m going to take a bath and was thinking about scrapbooking but changed my mind and may just watch some useless tv.
I may be back later.

Felt really 'off' in the afternoon, fluey, so did a covid test. Negative. I have two left in this packet, so I've ordered another ten. John will test again on Monday night before he goes to pick up Bea on Tuesday. The hip pain has subsided now. I'm writing this at 1 am, because I've woken up. Did a few loosening up exercises for my back and neck.
My brother rang yesterday to see how I was getting on. He is preparing to have a house full over the summer. Decorating a couple of spare rooms in preparation for the onslaught. His son is paying the decorator, because they are moving in. In order to escape from the upheaval, he and DSIL went for a two night hotel break in Arundel, a famous castle town near us. The beach car park nearby charged £13.50 for the day! How times have changed!
Baby Finley is doing really well, and the parents are coping well with their trans adventure.
My friends will be having good weather while they are here. I hope to be able to get within outside shouting distance at some point. If it wasn't for their difficult situations, I might be inclined to test and risk it, but it's up to them. If I don't get it, I don't know how! Every sneeze, I think, this is it!
DDIL says she has heard of a lot of people with it.
I'm enjoying watching a series I started a few years ago from Walter Presents. Nordic Murders. This is the last few. It's in German, and set on a real island in the Baltic Sea, called Usedom. It's divided between Germany and Poland. I haven't studied any German for over a year, as I was doing Norwegian for my cruise last year, and they are similar. But it's nice to get back to the language. I definitely need the subtitles though!
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Calories: I'm 5'6" (or maybe slightly less now), and I have found that I maintain at about 1500 calories and lose fairly consistently at about 1350 calories. The area between may give me a very, very slow loss with ups and downs.
I will feel hungry at 1350 calories, but fortunately, there's exercise!
Carbohydrates: They aren't all bad. In fact, many of them can be very good for us and one of the main things they do is to provide us with energy.
"Carbohydrates are one of the three macronutrients that occur naturally in plant foods, including peas and beans, nuts and seeds, grains, dairy and dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.
The other two macronutrients are dietary fats and proteins.
Carbohydrates are considered essential nutrients for the body to function properly by several global health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHOTrusted Source). Their primary role is to provide energy to all cells in the body."
...
Generally, there are three types of carbohydrates: sugars, starches, and dietary fiber.
It is possible to classify them further as simple or complex carbs, depending on the number and type of sugar molecules — such as glucose — that each structure contains."
The article continues with much more detail.
"Research has linked diets rich in these complex carbohydrates — such as the Mediterranean dietTrusted Source — with anti-inflammatory benefits, lowered insulin resistance, and a reduced risk of chronic diseases.
The researchers attribute many of these benefits to the dietary fiber content of complex carbohydrates.
For instance, the dietary fiber in whole fruits improves long-term weight management and supports regular bowel movements and healthy aging.
Furthermore, boosting the quality of the diet by including more complex carbs and dietary fiber can lead to improvements in some of the effects of PCOS, such as insulin resistance and elevated androgens.
A 2020 review found that the dietary fiber in whole grain foods confers several health benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, gut disorders, cancer, and diabetes."
The article continues with much more detail.
"Despite the popularity of low carbohydrate diets, they are not suitable for everyone, and some populations still benefit from a carbohydrate-rich diet.
For example, endurance athletic performance becomes compromised on a low carbohydrate diet, and a high carbohydrate intake remains the most evidence-backed choice for elite athletes.
Among members of the general population with high carbohydrate intake, significant reductions in blood sugar levels — potentially promoting the remission of prediabetes — occur when the daily intake of carbohydrates is reduced.
Therefore, for populations that consume 65–75% of their daily calories from carbohydrates, experts recommend reducing carbohydrate calories to 50–55% of daily intake and increasing protein.
A carbohydrate restriction of 45% or less of daily calories is more effective for short-term blood sugar control, but it may be unsustainable and does not provide greater long-term results than a range of 50–55% of daily calories from carbohydrates.
Before making changes to their diet, people should speak with a doctor or registered dietitian to determine their specific carbohydrate needs to optimize their health outcomes."

Congratulations, Lisa, on your percentage uppage for disability. That is a help, I'm sure.
Barbie - I hope Jake's new chemo pills go down well. Sounds like they are keeping on top of things.
I've woken up to a dull day, but tomorrow is the start of a patch of good weather for my friends' visit. I haven't minded it coolish, I'm not a fan of heat, but it hasn't been great for the economy of this seaside city. Can't wait to stagger down to the seafront. I think I'm still half a block short. I could get there, but, as Ginny says, you've got to get back again! I will get a taxi to see the girls.
CJ - it's just a small, overgrown, city garden, which we fancifully call a wildlife garden. We love it. I love seeing what pops up of its own accord. There is a fashion, and even mission, in British gardening, to rewild everything, with planting being soft , abundant, and natural seeming. Lawns are allowed to grow in 'No-mow May' to encourage wild flowers. We don't have dangerous snakes, or insects here, so nothing much is hiding in the grass, and all kinds of insects are greatly encouraged. Insecticides are frowned on. The idea is to have an abundance of everything, including birds and bugs. We have foxes and squirrels.
I love the natural look, but ours is more by laziness and chance than anything else. It is green, green, green, with splashes of interloper colour. In the dining room, it is as if you are outside. Our living room also is dominated by the garden view.
The area of the conjoined gardens from the two streets, must be a couple of acres, with mature trees, and many shrubs. A haven. I feel so lucky.
Feeling OK this morning. Will do a few more exercises.

Caught up with reading but not sure what I remember!
Tracey-too bad you don't think the aide position will meet your financial needs. It does seem the training was very good for your self confidence and healing. Do they have book keeping positions at the schools that you are qualified for that pay more?
Heather-sorry Covid is at your home. It is still everywhere it seems. I don't thinks tests are 100% accurate. Also, even if you are not positive you could carry it to friends so I think you are being wise in not seeing them close up.
Allie-I hope your health issues are resolved. How did the visit to the transplant doctors go?
Annie-like Heather I think there is a good chance Covid caught you! Glad you and your dad are on the mend.
Lisa-glad the VA recognized your conditions. I am never sure how that works for them. I know my son (who served in Balad) has some partial disabilities established from the burn field and some other things. Evidently they are learning from the past overlooks with vets and establishing baselines earlier. I don't think it gets him any money now (he is successfully employed) but does continue his medical. Will have to ask him sometime. Hope Corey enjoys his birthday.
Pip-I am always amused by the walk/ride arrangements you have with your kids!
Barbie-hope Jake tolerates chemo well. The costs of the medications are outrageous.
Lanette-hope the Keens are helpful.
Carol-sounds like the dogs were a handful!
Rosemarie-your deck sounds so peaceful.
Tina-I guess it is better you brought Covid back with you and weren't sick your whole trip!
I know I missed many!
Housing update.Positively love the cottage (that's what they call them). The finishes are quite nice. The unit that I have laid claim to looks out over the pond and walking path.
It is scheduled that I can move in November 1. While I doubt I am retired then (the transition hasn't started and will take some time) I can move slowly and also work from home there and travel the 45 minutes back here as needed. I don't have to sell my current home until I fully move. I am making a decision at a time.
Tuesday is busy medical day. Scheduled appointment at 8 am to have orthopedic doctor check out hip and make sure none of that is related to foot issue. If we rule that out will have him evaluate the whole thing. Then I go to oral surgeon to place the abutment and then to dentist immediately after to fit for crown. I think I am a couple of weeks from completion. I don't know if it can be done before I go to Phoenix or if final placement will be afterwards.
Off to start my weekend chores. Heading out for walk at sunrise to beat the heat.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohi9 -

A lap of kittens to start my day! They make my heart happy.
Rode with oldest grand daughter driving yesterday to car show. She still needs to work on mirrors and lane changes. Oh and backing up and anticipating stops. She comes into stops too fast for me. She is the only grand I have ridden with.
Hearing screening for DH and I after work today at Costco. Will get my new glasses ordered too. Didn't sleep well last night. Actually felt panicked most of it. Strange. CPAP fitting appointment next Friday.
Tracey Add my positive thoughts that financially it works out for you continuing work with children. You are great with them (like my oldest daughter)
Lisa Yay on medical increase. Every little bit helps!

Ginny - Love the view from your cottage, so pleased to see you moving toward retiring. Regarding the VA - unlike Social Security, there's no work or salary restriction, you aren't restricted from whether you work or not, and there is no subtracting from your VA disability, no matter how much you get paid. If your son is retired military, the VA part of his retirement pay is simply untaxable. In other words, my ex-husband was 50% disabled, so half of his military retirement was untaxable, but there wasn't VA pay ADDED to his retirement pay. Regarding how they add varying disabilities tied to military service together, the math is arcane and punitive to the vet, to say the least. Thanks for the hints on the cooling towels to you and to Lanette and others - they're helping enormously.
Carol - sounds like you're ready for your guests to depart! How is your husband feeling?
Tracey - Love the freezie sleeves, and you've given all those kids a memory they'll keep with them, of someone who knows how to be kind. What you're doing really matters.
Machka - I can't bear to shut all the light out of any room except the bedroom, it's the only place we've kept the room darkening curtains. And I put the window tint behind them, as well, but that's more for the heat reflection there. It's making a difference already in how much the air conditioners are having to run to cool the rooms down to 75 or 76 degrees (24C). It's all I can handle in terms of being able to be comfortable in the summer heat.
Barbie - Hope chemo in pill form goes well for Jake. Being able to get that kind of medication in your own home is such an amazing step forward.
Heather - Thanks for the good wishes for Corey's birthday... I'm thinking of trying a Swiss roll cheesecake - I have a good recipe for red velvet cake, but I've never made a rolled cake before. In theory, it SHOULD work... 👀😁 Either way, it will taste good, even if it falls apart. I need to do the baking before it gets too hot! On the subject of your friends and Covid - I wouldn't get near anyone with a compromised immune system if I had the flu OR covid, or even a really bad cold, so it makes sense to me to keep your distance.
Kim - Keeping an eye on the fires every once in a while from here - hope your friends are doing OK.
Absolutely gorgeous full moon just set this morning. Perfect view of it from where I sit typing this. The white morning glories are just emerging from the pre-dawn darkness, and I need to get moving if I'm going to get some baking done before it gets all scorchy!
Later, y'all,
Love,

From a couple days ago - the purple morning glories are coming on strong, and will fill most of the twine trellis before long. The window you can just see under the flag is the one I look out of every day while I'm trolling around the interwebs and talking to y'all. The blue above is the T-111 that was under the siding, and we'll be repairing the obvious places before we repaint a more vivid deep teal:

Good morning ladies!
Lisa glad your medical allowance went up. Every little bit helps!
Barbie hope Jake's chemo does the job without being too hurtful. Such powerful medicine.
Lanette how are your shoes working out?
Ginny what a cute cottage! Looks like you have the whole retirement thing planned out. Are there activities that come with the cottage?
Tracey I am also so disappointed in the job finances. You are so talented with the children!
Well Dad got up dressed in a crazy outfit and told me he was going to church. Got that straightened out.
My plan is to go out for sandwiches for dinner, which will be cooler than using the oven here. Other than that, not much going on, so I will drink tea for my cold and read my new books. I have two from the Cold Justice series by Toni Anderson. Yay!
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!
