Wow that's a lot of walking @henridw2095!
@chris_in_cal suck in your gut for the co-ed 🤣😂🤣 (I laugh, but I think subconsciously we all do the same)
@ContraryMaryMary jumping in the pool after a hot run sounds heavenly 😇. Sounds like you are having a great vacation.

chris_in_cal wrote: »I am famously a negative splitter. I liked your advice to warm up and prepare. I usually use the first mile or two of a race as warm up.
Me too. I usually negative split races without really trying. It takes me a few miles to really get in the zone and there is usually so much congestion at a starting line. If I focus on not weaving and dodging too much it's usually a safe bet those first couple of miles will be slightly slower.
@tarun_yadavA somehow succeeds while doing the exact opposite of what every coach everywhere says. Consistent splits or negative splits >> positive splits! And mentally it's a boost to see a faster last mile compared to your first. It sucks to feel like you're fading.6 -
@ContraryMaryMary I appreciate the solidarity. Now you know why I ♥️ sprinklers!!
@henridw2095 I'm also not a huge fan of deep dish pizza. It's just too much of everything. I love a thin crust, esp a hand tossed crust with those air bubbles that get a little charred in the oven. 🤤4 -
July total: 9.5/100 miles
YTD: 501.3/1200 miles
7/1: 3 miles
7/3: 6.5 miles
Hot, humid, 4/1 intervals. You know the drill. My legs were a little bit tired today but not as much as they have been after Pilates recently. I can tell my body is adjusting a little bit though my legs could use some foam rolling.
I haven't decided if I'm going to run outside or do the treadmill tomorrow. Because it's a holiday I don't have work so I have time to drive to the greenway trail. I haven't been there in a while but after a longer run today, I kind of feel like my body could use the climate controlled day. I guess I'll see how I feel in the morning.
My kid came home from a school trip to New York a few days ago and brought a cold with them. The head congestion along with the pressure changes on the airplane caused one of their eardrums to rupture and they have bilateral ear infections. They are finally starting to feel a little bit better. Hopefully everything is completely healed up by next Friday before we get on a plane again. So far my husband and I haven't caught it so I'm hopeful we will escape this one.6 -
Great vacation running and walking @henridw2095 . The food looks really good and love the views on your run. Have a safe trip home.
Great negative splits @ContraryMaryMary ! I love that you jump in the pool as soon as you are done. Enjoy that while you can.
@martaindale Great running. I'm sorry your child came home sick from NY. Did they enjoy the trip before coming down with a cold. I'm also sorry that they wound up with a ruptured eardrum. That sounds so painful. I hope they get better soon and no one else gets sick before next week.3 -
1 July - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - driveway wun - trimmed trees for 2h52m44s
2 July - Walked 1.15 miles - Ran 1.00 miles - driveway wun - built fence around the garden earlier
3 July - Walked 2.35 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill wun
6.50/60.00 goal
Mom and I got haircuts this morning, ran some errands, and visited with my aunt who broke her hip. She's doing great, thankfully!
After I got home, I did a treadmill wun. I walked 5 min at 3.8 mph, ran/walked 1/2 min at 4.2-5.0/3.8, then walked 5 min at 3.8 mph. Avg pace was exactly 15:00 min/mile. Avg HR was 106 with a max of 129 bpm.5 -
Ran 5km today. Skipped yesterday as I had to work overtime, but at least I biked to work and walked on my break so I had some exercise in! Still on track with my goal this month.5
-
July Goal: 130 Miles
7/1: 4.02 miles
7/2: 6.02 miles
7/3: 6.02 miles
16.06/130 miles completed for July
Today was another 80°F, 6 mile run. I started out feeling really slow, but about halfway through I saw another runner so I started running a little faster. Then I decided that it felt pretty good so I kept trying to increase my speed a bit. It was still pretty slow, but it felt good to run a little faster than usual. I didn't have perfect negative splits, but I definitely finished faster than I started. Tomorrow is a holiday and I don't have to work. I haven't decided if I will run or not. I may just sleep in and take rest day, but it looks like we may get some thunderstorms in Friday, so I'll probably just play it by ear and decide in the morning.

Neighborhood 1Mile (at 14"34 pace). streak day 64
A slow shuffle to keep going and keep streaking. I picked up my race bib this afternoon, I am excited.8 -
Got a 4km run last night as requested by the watch. It had been raining all day so the temp was a nice cool 20C (68F). Run was a good bit faster than the previous ones, which proves that my current speed, or lack of which, is not entirely because I'm out of shape7
-
Morning all.
Got in 5.1 at 09"44.
Happy 4th to you guys across the Pond!
@chris_in_cal you got this!! Pick whatever strategy suits you best when you get going...
You've trained like an animal. You will 100% kill it!
@henridw2095 I only really eat meat when I'm out. Associate meat eating as a treat. So I took, do love a nice Beyond burger ; Hummus falafel wraps all the things! 😊
@martaindale now now Sarah... Don't hate!
😁😁6 -
Great job on getting your exercise in @jem302 . Great run yesterday.
@kgirlhart Great running and finishing strong!
Good luck on your race @chris_in_cal ! You're going to do great! Can't wait to hear about it.
Great running @noblsheep !
Thanks @tarun_yadavA ! Great early morning run.5 -
My question is. Why do we still call women students "co eds". Not in a mean spirit but kind of a strange thought. Of course when I was at West point they called us a lot worse... hahahahahha (most guys definitely did not like or want women invading that institution).3
-
@SummerSkier I don't think I knew that you went to West Point. So cool. That's a good question. Are there any educational institutions that are all male or female these days? I guess old habits die hard.
1 July - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - driveway wun - trimmed trees for 2h52m44s
2 July - Walked 1.15 miles - Ran 1.00 miles - driveway wun - built fence around the garden earlier
3 July - Walked 2.35 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill wun
4 July - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 3.00 miles - driveway laps
10.50/60.00 goal
I went out about 9 for 4 miles total to celebrate the 4th. It was 80F (26.7C) and 79% humidity when I started out. It felt so much hotter. I walked half a mile, then did a run/walk of 2/1 min x 10 and then just ran when I felt like it for another 0.8 mile. Finished with a half mile cool down walk. Splits for the part where I was running up the hills were 13:13, 13:44, and 14:08 min/mile (first 29 min). Not bad paces, but I was ready for a break from running the hills. Avg HR was 138 with a max of 152 bpm.
I was 2.4 pounds lighter after I ran than I was when I got up this morning...and I had eaten breakfast with 2 cups of coffee. Of course, I had done my morning constitution too. Still, it was a lot of sweat!
Heading out later to go to my nephew's for a 4th of July party. Happy 4th to all my American pals!6 -
7/1 13.33 miles County Line and back
7/2 14.33 miles, Running Partner A! 6 miles with me
7/3 16.48 miles
7/4 13.41 miles, Running Partner A! 6 miles with me
I could have sworn that I had posted my goal and first two days, but it appears I did not. Busy around here with siblings visiting Mom. July 4th is my mother's birthday. I am really working on being grateful they are here, but it is hard. I just wanted a day off, someone else to do 'my job'.
Anyway, I am in for 400 miles depending on how early I get up to beat this heat.6 -
@quilteryoyo ...for 4 miles total to celebrate the 4th
At the lake early again this morning. I saw P and we chatted about the upcoming 5K this Saturday. We run the same races and she always drives. She is the most punctual person I have ever seen. When she says she is going to pick me up, she is there exactly right-to-the-minute at my house.
7/1 - 3.16 Miles. 56F, Cloudy.
7/2 - 3.12 Miles. 51F, Clear.
7/4 - 3.13 Miles. 72F, Partly Cloudy.6 -
01.07 3.0km 25min 8:20/km - 10x very short interval
04.07 5.7km 50min 8:49/km - run/walk
total 08.69km
Nice weather if a bit too much wind. Did run/walk to get some distance in without getting my HR up to above 190 again.5 -

When I served in the military my last duty station was directly adjacent to two schools. Really one school with a line drawn down the middle.
On the left was the U.S. Coast Guard academy and on the right was Connecticut College. The design was for men to attend the academy and for women to attend the college.
When I lived there women and men attended both...aka the two schools were both co-educational.5 -
@henridw2095 that's awesome. Boston's such a great city. Great food. Insanely commutable. People there are so nice. The water everywhere is fantastic. Definitely enjoy! I think the last time I went to Boston I tracked nearly 110K steps with two of the higher days near 50K steps each. Agreed on Pequods. My favorite. Not sure which one I prefer for pub style pizza though. Really hard to choose considering all the ones I tried were great.
@quilteryoyo thanks! I'm glad to hear your aunt is doing okay! I might copy you and do another 4 miles later at Z2. Reminds me that I also need to check my TRIMP on Runalyze. Hope you have fun with the family!
@tarun_yadavA curious to hear your thoughts on NY style pizza. Whenever I frequented there, I would always try the $1 slices every chance I got. There's a pizza spot right across from one of my FAVORITE drink spots right in Midtown. The drink restaurant (?) is called I'Milky. I never remember the pizza spot, but it's incredibly difficult to miss since the opening is so big. I believe on 32nd or 37th. Last time I went to NYC, there is no longer $1 pizza . That was my favorite NY style slice out of all the ones I tried in Manhattan, but I'm not really a NY style slice fan--yes, this includes Joe's.5 -
@AlphaHowls tell mama Howls Happy Birthday from all of us! 🎉🥳
Too hot this morning to go out. Did 5 TM miles. Slowly building up. SUPPOSED to get cooler temps and rain starting tomorrow 🤞
Happy 4th!
6 -
Yesterday I only ran 4 miles--not 6. Unexpected day. A few friends I met in uni came to visit so I cut my run short. Not bad for Z2. I was caught two times going out of HR Zone. I guess my speed compared to Tuesday really does show how good rest is.
Avg 126 BPM
Max 141 BPM
Avg 167 SPM
Today, I wanted to have fun, so I ran a tempo. Definitely did a lot better than I thought I would I initially saw the speeds and thought that I would be out of my league here, not quite exactly the case. I was still able to finish strong.
Lap 2: Avg Pace 10:57, Avg HR 136, Max HR 149
Lap 3: Avg Pace 7:46, Avg HR 177, Max HR 187
Lap 4: Avg Pace 8:09, Avg HR 187, Max HR 189
Lap 5: Avg Pace 10:29, Avg HR 165, Max HR 185
Although, it seems like I forgot how to control my pace at higher speeds.
Current TRIMP x0.65-staying stagnant which means my risk for injury is not increasing or decreasing.
Workload Ratio is in optimum range. 0.90 which is optimal.4 -
On a side note, reading @yirara post (congrats on the diligence to get that extra mileage in without going into Z5 BTW) I recall using a very weird metric for bodybuilding kg of protein per lb of bodyweight or effectively kg/lb. I wonder what the runner equivalent would be of that. I initially thought km/mile but we don't really measure distances like that.1

No hate, just an observation. I literally can not train the way you do. You seem to follow none of the commonly held recommendations and keep on ticking!4 -
Happy birthday to your mom @AlphaHowls! I understand what you mean about wanting a day off. It's good your siblings are able to gather to celebrate your mom.
Waiting to hear about your race @chris_in_cal!!2 -
July total: 17/100 miles
YTD: 508.8/1200 miles
7/1: 3 miles
7/3: 6.5 miles
7/4: 7.5 miles
I decided to split the difference between treadmill and outdoors. I did the first 4.2 miles outside on the neighborhood trail. After that I did another treadmill run in the Japan series and finished with 3.3 miles for a total of 7.5. My plan had been for 7, but I'll gladly collect a few extra tenths since it will be hard for me to meet my goal this month. The a/c and some ice water was soooo nice after getting super sweaty.
Since I don't have work today I'm going to take it extra easy for the rest of the day. The heat was really getting to me today. Just need to do some laundry so I can start setting travel clothes aside. I need a lot of stuff for a 2 week trip plus several changes of running clothes.
@quilteryoyo My kid is feeling better. The cold has resolved so just dealing with the ear infections. They aren't having as much pain today but still can't hear. We have to yell everything and still end up repeating ourselves multiple times.4 -
Another sweaty “unproductive” 10k for me this morning. But at least I had company today - one of my running buddies is also holidaying here so joined me this morning. Nice to catch up, share the good eateries, and commiserate about the humidity. We stopped at 9km so she could buy donuts for her family and forgot to start running again for 500m or so, so the last k is a lot slower. Other than that, I think I’m starting to acclimatise a little.6
-
Go, Go, GO @chris_in_cal! I think you are likely finished with the race but hope you had a blast and the anticipated starting temp sounds lovely.
@quilteryoyo - maybe the stampeding deer were running from the bears you didn't see?
@kgirlhart - on the other hand, maybe having a bear or two come around would keep the skunks away? Not sure that would be an ideal tradeoff though.quilteryoyo wrote: »@kgirlhart Very nice 6 miles. I guess we all need to stay alert while running, even if there is no previous threat detected. I think someone on here said they ran with a tiny device that sounded like a bullhorn to get attention and scare off dogs and such. Does anyone still here remember that or know where you could get one. It seems like a great idea.
@summerskier - I am so sorry you have issues with a 'friend' on Strava. Is there a way to report them anonymously so it doesn't create issues for you?
@martaindale and @henridw2095 - I too am not a deepish pizza fan but it is my husband's favorite. In fact he ordered one last night with half of it with my toppings. I couldn't eat it as is iso I pretty much deconstructed it by removing the toppings and some of the cheese and just eating the outside end of the crust 😂 I also like the handcrafted thin crust pies.
@martaindale - I am so sorry about your kid's ruptured eardrum and infections. It had to be so very painful for them! I hope they are feeling better and can enjoy your trip to Japan.
@henridw2095 - the vegan food looks delicious! I love falafel but have yet to find any in our area that I would call decent. Most are so dry and/or tasteless. I am sure if I wanted to trek into downtown LA I could find some but it is not worth it going all the way there. The best I have had were on a visit to our niece at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ of all places.
@ContraryMaryMary - I always loved having our pool to jump into in the summer straight after a run. My legs also liked it - an especially great way to literally cool down!
@AlphaHowls - Happy, Happy Birthday to your mom! I hope you siblings pitch in and give you at least time to relax from all your job duties!
I got out for an earlier 2mi walk on Tuesday. I am working on a better way to report my progress. The free flow posting I used in June bugs me so I will likely put it in excel to make it neater 😁 I saw the PA yesterday before my treatment and made sure it was ok continue my walks, running when I feel up to it, along with the strength training. I am still losing weight and don't want to make it worse with all the added activity. She agreed I should keep it up to hopefully regain some muscle mass. If I feel up to it later today I may try for a walking pad walk. It is too hot and the air quality is not great (fires and fireworks - yuck) to go outside. I am toying with trying to get Hobbes to walk on it too, not with me but just a bit of movement for him too.

Haha, thanks! My HR tends to go skyhigh if I don't run for as little as three weeks. So working on getting it down again so that I'm able to run for longer.4 -
July Goal: 130 Miles
7/1: 4.02 miles
7/2: 6.02 miles
7/3: 6.02 miles
7/4: 6.26 miles
22.32/130 miles completed for July
I didn't get up early since I had the day off, but I woke up a little before 7, so I decided to go for a run. It was 7:45 when I started and 84°F feels like 90°. The dew point was 71°. I had a great run. I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. I got my salt stick chews yesterday in the mail so I used them. I took one about 30 minutes in and another at about one hour. I was impressed with them. I tried the orange and I thought they tasted good. I ran 6.25 miles in 1 hour, 14 minutes. It was 86°feels like 92° when I finished, but I felt good while I was running, and when I got home. I'll get a better idea of how they work on Sunday when I do my long run, but so far I feel like they will be helpful in staying hydrated.
6 -
@kgirlhart I could really feel the difference in how the salt tabs made me feel. And they helped me recover quicker.3
