Hi everyone!
@AlphaHowls Good job on the 9 year streak! Plus all of your long runs too, of course!!!!
@tarun_yadavA Welcome back! Hope you enjoyed your time in Germany! From what you posted it sounded fun, if beer heavy .
@martaindale Hope your power’s back on, but you must have been happy you didn’t postpone your run- even if you don’t have the exact stats.5 -
I went on an easy 10.1km treadmill run yesterday. I figured I needed to make an appearance at the gym, since I hadn’t been for about a month. And… they finally fixed the shower that’s been broken since Christmas. So if I do go to the gym I can go to work clean and less salty .
Today was my long run. My plan was to run 23 km, but it was getting really hot and I wasn’t really feeling the run too much even though I wasn’t pushing the pace, so I stopped at 22.5km. After I finished, I saw that my heart rate had been a lot higher than average (definitely a result of the heat) and probably the reason I was struggling a bit on the run. I spent the afternoon with the kids at the pool, so my goal for tomorrow is to not be out in the sun so long!
102.2/200km for July7 -
Kettlebell/bodyweight exercises today. My Garmin watch didn't measure this exercise session as 'anaerobic' anymore compared to previous sessions. Looks like my HR is slowly getting lower again. No exercise tomorrow. I'm off to a town some 3hrs by train to discuss some medical tests I had related to my exercise intolerance. Bit nervous, but maybe I finally get answers.4

@Teresa502 Garmin doesn't know a lot of things. You did great and just making it up that hill is an accomplishment. Great easy run today. I think you may be correct about why people still don't want others to know they have CoVID.
Welcome @WarmJellyfish . How long have you been running? Great mileage so far this month. (Is there a term similar to mileage for Kilometers? Kilometerage?
It's great to hear you had such a good run today @noblsheep . Hahaha about the shoes.
Great running @AlphaHowls and Happy MFP-aversay. Nine years is amazing.
Nice running @Laurz9191 . I'm glad your gym got the shower fixed. You did great with your run and listening to your body.
@yirara I hope you get some answers tomorrow.

Mom had an eye doctor appointment this morning. I had planned to get up early enough to run before we left, but I didn't sleep real good last night, so opted to sleep a little extra this morning.
After I got home, I did a treadmill run/walk. I did quarter mile intervals at 3.8, 4.2, 4.3, 3.8, 4.4, 4.5, 3.8, 4.6, 4.7, 3.8, 5.0, 3.8 mph. Just counting the running portions, I ran 1.75 miles in 23:18 min, for an avg pace of 13:19 min/mile. My avg HR was 123 with a max of 146 bpm.
I'm hoping to make it to the gym in the morning before going to work at daycare at 10.
@SummerSkier I'll be glad when you are back on Strava.5 -
@AlphaHowls congrats on the 9 year MFP anniversary!
@noblsheep congrats on your running epiphany 😊
Couldn't get up this morning, so did 5 TM miles after work.

No run today but checking in. We still don’t have power. About 36 hrs now. Houston wide there are still about 1.5 million people without power.
Last night wasn’t too bad temp wise. It got into the 90s today and the house is getting warm. When I got home from work it was still cooler in the house than outside but now I think it’s just about the same. We’ll open up the windows tonight to take advantage of the slight drop in temps. I use a rechargeable fan on my treadmill and I used that last night. We are trying to charge it up a bit on a neighbor’s generator so it will make it through the night tonight. Having a way to get the air moving makes a big difference.
I started doing some cleanup this afternoon then took a cold shower, which actually felt nice because I was so hot! My husband and I drove around a bit to find a place to eat and found a Taco Bell that had power. The traffic is moving slow even though there aren’t a ton of cars out because most of our traffic lights are out. Not flashing. Totally dark. Some people are blowing through them so you have to be super cautious. I guess they forget the lights exist if they aren’t working? So there have been some wrecks. Also huge lines at gas stations. Really happy both my husband and I drive small cars that get good gas mileage and we aren’t low on gas. Hopefully some of that will improve tomorrow.10 -
@Scott6255 I’m glad your daughter did ok through the storm and got power back so quickly. I’m envious!
@tarun_yadavA I haven’t opened the freezer since the power went out. There’s no ice cream in there anyway. If the power doesn’t come on by tomorrow I’ll open it up to see how things are faring. We’re leaving Friday morning for Japan so we may have to totally empty the fridge and freezer and start over when we get back.7 -
Neighborhood 1.33 Mile (at 13"33 pace). Streak day 70 days
I'm getting some hill work.4 -
I feel for you @martaindale. Hopefully you’ll get power back soon. And when you restock your freezer after Japan, make sure you buy ice cream (how do you survive in summer without ice cream? 😲).4
-
Oh @martaindale I feel for you and your family! 😞
It is so hard to be without power for any extended time. Hoping and praying it comes on today so y'all can get ready for your trip.4 -
Morning all.
Got in 5.0M at 09"58. Still feel like a bloated blimp.
And guess who's out drinking tonight? Going Brewdog to watch the Semi final. Booked this ages ago but could do without the drinking so soon after Berlin!
Speaking of...
@Laurz9191 I absolutely LOVED Berlin! It was amazing! What a weekend! My friend from Florida gets to pick a European destination again in 2 years' time (it's me, North America next year)... Undecided between Amsterdam (a female Dutch fan he met in a bar really took his fancy!) and doing a different city like Munich for Oktoberfest.
@martaindale I'm sorry. 36 hours!? Wow. I didn't realise it was that bad. I was being silly.
@Teresa502 and @SummerSkier what are you two ladies doing on Strava exactly!? That are getting you female and male stalkers!? Haha.6 -
@martaindale I hope you get power back soon, before everything in the freezer goes bad. That's the worst part about a long power outage. Well, that and the heat that you can't get relief from. Stay safe.
Nice running @chris_in_cal . Hill work is good work.
Great bloated run @tarun_yadavA . Have fun tonight. Take it easy on the beer - remember, you have to get out for a run early in the morning regardless of how hungover you are.

6.4 miles this morning. Forgot to take my asthma medicine. Ear buds were in the charger, but dead. It was 79F. So wasn't the best conditions. But the run wasn't too too bad. At the end Garmin said my training status was 'Overreaching'. 2 days ago I was 'Unproductive'. There's no pleasing the Garmin gods.

@martaindale In a show of solidarity from my power company, I woke up to no electricity this morning. The entire town is without it. I'm guessing it is planned maintenance (although you would think they would notify the customers). It's supposed to be back on by noon and thankfully it's only 77F right now and there is a very cool breeze blowing. I'm working outside at a picnic table at the top of my driveway because I get better service up here. It's a different kind of day but good!
@tarun_yadavA - Just call us weirdo magnets!7 -
Nice running @Scott6255 . Sorry about the technology challenges and Garmin is pretty fickle.
Wow @Teresa502 . I hope they get the power back on when they said they would. It's weird that the didn't let you know. At least the temperature isn't that bad and the breeze really helps.1 -
Hi everyone!
An easy recovery 8.1km this morning. It rained buckets last night, so the running conditions were pretty pleasant, if sluggy .
@martaindale and @Teresa502 Fingers crossed you both have your power back!!!!
@Scott6255 It seems like your Garmin doesn’t know what it wants . I’m fruitlessly trying to get in the “productive” zone, but there’s always something it complains about, leaving the “productive “ compliments few and far between 😿. I just run on hoping maybe to get it right eventually .
110.4/200km for July.3 -
@Teresa502 Thanks for the show of solidarity. Much appreciated!
Well, still no power. 54-ish hours so far. Places around us are getting power so at least the traffic lights are mostly working now and more stores and restaurants are open. This afternoon we are going to try to find a laundromat. We all have a few things that need to be washed to finish packing for our trip. I have mentally prepared not to get power back before we leave town. Will probably go ahead and clean out the fridge tonight too. Depending on how long laundry takes.
I brought several devices and chargers to work today to get everyone’s stuff charged up. My little treadmill fan is getting a lot of use.
My kid went for their follow up today. They still can’t really hear. Both ears are still infected but not as badly as before. They got more antibiotics and Flonase to hopefully reduce the swelling and help some of the fluid drain.
I’m supposed to run today but that was planned to be a treadmill run. Idk if I’m going to bother. I would like to run tomorrow morning and back to back outside runs sounds like a bad idea in this heat. High today is 95F, feels like 101F.5 -
Missed my run yesterday thanks to school holidays and having to be here for the kids - it was easier when we lived in suburbia and they’d come on their bikes when I ran. Unfortunately the rural roads are too dangerous for this.
Today i managed 45 mins while Miss 12 had a mock exam. I had Miss 10 in tow on her scooter first the first 2km, then I looped the playground for the next 4k, then she and I headed back to the ballet studio.
A lovely run and Garmin tells me I’m productive! Has given me back that VO2 max point yet though…4 -
July Goal: 130 Miles
7/1: 4.02 miles
7/2: 6.02 miles
7/3: 6.02 miles

7/7: 11.27 miles
7/8: 3.30 miles
7/10: 6.52 miles

I took yesterday as a rest day and then had a nice 6.5 mile run today. It is starting to get light a little later, so I started in the dark, but it was light when I finished. It was 75°F, but the humidity was only 69° and it was pretty pleasant.

Hi all from the 3rd world country that is Houston. This morning marked 72 hours without power. The only shred of good news is that our area has changed from orange (meaning they are assessing, aka not actually working on us yet) to blue (meaning work has begun) on the outage map. I almost hate to hope that we could have power by tonight. Last night was really hot and I got very little sleep. Our flight is at 5 AM tomorrow morning so we are waking up at around 2 AM. I was really hoping to get a better night sleep last night. If the air conditioning were to come back on at least those few hours tonight would be quality.
Also our cell service and data seems to be back. It’s been very sketchy and that has made things harder to manage.
We cleaned out the fridge and freezer this morning and are working on getting the house back in order. Our cleaning lady will come while we’re gone so we can’t leave things a total wreck. Bonus, we come home to a clean house!9 -
Holy cow! @martaindale that's unreal that your power is STILL out!!!!!! I'm sure that makes living conditions awful, but you have to deal with getting ready to leave the country. I am so sorry you and your family have to go through that. But that being said, it is a great time to get away! Have a GREAT trip!5

01.07 3.0km 25min 8:20/km - 10x very short interval
04.07 5.7km 50min 8:49/km - run/walk
05.07 3.6km 30min 8:21/km - slow
07.07 4.1km 35min 8:29/km - slow
08.07 3.0km 26min 8:32/km - stride repeats
10.07 5.2km 45min 8:43/km - slow
total 24.58km
This went better today. I did 3x15 minutes with a target hr that went up by 10 each successive block. Walked when my hr went too high, and only had to walk briefly this time compared to last week. Things are getting better.
But yeah, it's official: I have a muscle condition. Not sure yet what, but it looks like a substantial part of my muscle fibers responsible for higher intensity things are rubbished. And as such moving around is a lot more difficult, and they hold a lot less glycogen for this. That explains why exercising is so difficult for me and i don't get better.10 -
Lake 3.02Miles (at 13"50 pace). Streak day 72.
It was foggy this morning, so not so hot. It's going on noon, and I'm still not 100% cool and refreshed. Perhaps that comes more easily with better fitness.5 -
Hi everyone!
After a tough workday, I headed to the gym for what I thought was a progression run. I increased my speed by .1km every km and the run was unsurprisingly increasingly harder. Right as I finished, I figured out I did the run “wrong “- just the last 10-15 minutes was supposed to be fast. So maybe next time it will be easier. We’ll see. In any case, I got it done , which felt great.
120.8/200km for July.5 -
@martaindale I’m so sorry to hear about your power outage. That sounds awful, especially right before I big trip! I hope you get a better night’s sleep tonight and have a good flight tomorrow and a great time in Japan!
@yirara I’m sorry to hear about your muscle condition!2 -
