Annie: Sorry about the diagnosis for your dad. Itβs a rocky road you are travelling. I agree with others about not mentioning the fees for Daddy Day Care. You donβt need the hassle if he decides itβs too expensive. You need that respite.
Rebecca: Iβm not that keen on clothes shopping myself. Not even shoes tempt me these days.
Getting ready for my guests tomorrow. We will work on my dining room table so need to clear out all the paraphernalia from my groups pronto.
My Austrian friend arrives on 12th July, which can be a little fraught in Northern Ireland, due to the annual Orange Parades. She is staying in the city centre for 4 days. Itβs over a weekend, so we will spend some time with her and her husband. We will fit into whatever they are planning. We havenβt seen each other in over 30 years. We hosted each other over several years of educational exchanges with our twinned towns. We keep in regular touch. So looking forward to meeting in person again. .
πΊπΈ Happy 4th July πΊπΈ to all my American (and Canadian?) friends. Itβs election day in UK, so I will be voting later.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Thanks to Machka, Terri, Barbara, Lanette, Ginny and Tracey and the rest of our community for your concern about my dad. Today I have to sneak in a shower when he is occupied. I thought I could do it yesterday while he was out to lunch, but that fell through.
Tracey right now my favorites are Toni Anderson, Laura Griffin, Lisa Regan and Allison Brennan. I bought two Maranda Collins to try. I like romance thrillers with a strong female lead, but I read other stuff just to mix it up.
And I was thinking of temping for you too! It's a great way to explore jobs.
Rebecca you go, girl! Excellent fresh start!
Heather so glad voting went well.
Barbara so the water adventure continues. Sorry about the financial blow. These expenses come out of nowhere.
Yesterday I had to send my Dad back upstairs to change his clothes. My mom used to do that all the time. I don't worry about the black socks, but the plaid shorts with slippers were a bit much for a lunch date.
Have a lovely day! Happy fourth for those who celebrate! And may you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I recently read how nomads who live in vans shower - many of them have gym memberships, and some rely on camp type showers which consists of hanging a black bag of water in a tree with a hose attachment in the sun for a bit. Sounds like work to me. Someone used a 32 oz spray bottle of water, spritzing the bits that need washing, soaping, then another spritz to rinse. I thought that was a good idea if in need of a quick cleanup.
Stay cool, ladies.

When I spent 3 months cycling around Australia and 8 months cycling around the world (various locations around the world), I used showers in accommodations, showers in truck stops, and showers at the beaches (the ones people use to rinse sand off). I've also used bodies of water like lakes and ocean.
When we lived in the shack in the middle of nowhere for a year after the bushfires here, this was our summer bathtub:
Between pond baths, I used this method of bathing in the summer. I could wash my hair, and then the rest of me. I think we had a shower bag as well for rinsing.

Since my sinus cleared up and putting a small piece of medical tape across the center of my mouth at night to help encourage nasal breathing I am sleeping better. I also try to drink at least one small glass 4-6 oz of tart cherry juice too. Try to wear light compression stockings during the day when I can. I do not cover my whole mouth with tape. I also could not do this when I had a sinus infection. When I cleared up my diet the sinus infection went away.
By sleeping better I mean at least 6-7 hours of no leg cramping and no getting up to have to use the bathroom. Solid sleep.
I learned the importance of clear sinuses and nasal breathing as it helps increase your levels of nitric oxide.
From the internet..."Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels, raising blood supply and lowering blood pressure. Conversely, it helps protect tissues from damage due to low blood supply. Also a neurotransmitter, nitric oxide acts in the nitrergic neurons active on smooth muscle, abundant in the gastrointestinal tract and erectile tissue."
I am wondering if when I had chronic sinus and gum issues if this contributed to my blood pressure being high. My blood pressure is now in the normal range.5 -

Nora Roberts put a new trilogy and new stand alone out each year. I love most of the trilogies. I donβt have trouble finding her books though. Here her books list what are stand alone and what are trilogies at the front of each book.
Machka - I find it easier to move the stuff and get rid of it after myself. Trying to get to donation centres or dealing with selling stuff during a move is stressful.
When do you expect to be fully moved to the new house?

JD Robb's are set in mid-21st-century New York City (about 2050 or so) ... so they aren't very futuristic. There are a few things which are commonly imagined might exist in the future like flying cars but for the most part you wouldn't know it's futuristic. The main character is a homicide cop dealing with the usual things a homicide cop would deal with.

Just watched another video on gut health. Everyone's journey to improve their gut will be different. Sometimes in the beginning even healthy foods can upset your gut. So the importance of being aware of how you feel after eating a certain type of food is important. Examples they used were foods high in lectins like kidney beans, soy beans..oxalates spinach, kale, almonds...nightshade like tomatoes eggplant It is best to take a break from these and reintroduce them slowly to your diet if needed. Gluten and rancid fats from vegetable oils were the major foods to eliminate.
Absorption of what you eat is just as important as what you eat. You can eat the best diet in the world but if the gut is not working well your body will not absorb what it needs.
A simple goal for me is I need to work on chewing my food more slowly and rinsing mouth with water or aloe after eating and breathing through my nose.
The good news is they are now teaching the future doctors the gut is the foundation to your health. Healthy gut healthy you. Unhealthy gut the list is too long to name them all.5 -
Hello, my chickens, and Happy 4th to my American sistren...
Another take-your-breath-away day,90 degrees at 10 am, supposed to hit 100 F... but a storm coming this evening, hopefully will cool things down without too much damage, and give all the thirsty plants a drink. Storms blowing up into these hot days are the scary ones, unfortunately. But we'll *ahem* keep a weather eye on the situation. π€
I'll be inside... Corey, on the other hand, plans to get some clearing done of the felled tree, and get some firewood out of it. We've got the gas fire set up in the living room, but the man just can't resist it, because he paid somebody to cut it down. I fully understand.
Heather - Sounds like an interesting time with John's old friend... always an eye opener to see a piece of our loved one's past. Glad you were able to get out to vote!
Annie - You would probably love Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer's Liz Danger series. I really enjoyed it, and I'm not always a romance fan... but these have enough suspense and humor along with the romance that I loved all three books. Have been a fan of Crusie's stuff for years, and when she started working with Bob Mayer, it added an interesting male perspective. They did a great job with Agnes and the Hitman, as well.
Flea - Quite a difference from Crater Lake and snow on the ground above it!
Ack! Time to eat my omelet before Egg gets TOO interested.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Took a day off from eating right yesterday and feel it today. Headache, tired, and allergies acting up. So back to it today. Logged breakfast: Quaker Oats Low Sugar cinnamon-spice instant oatmeal with 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 T almond butter, 1 T butter, 1/2 banana, and green tea. Planning a nap then maybe snack of plum and nuts. Not sure what DH has planned for dinner.
Iβm simply out of it today. Busy day yesterday and poor food choices are making me ill today.

Happy Independence Day to all us Yanks! Let Freedom Ring but keep those M-80's in your own yard please, neighbors. Or better yet, since we are on the way to high temps and low humidity, just don't light them off.
Margaret - again, thanks for sharing your insights into health. Good to hear the new docs are learning more about the power of a healthy gut. Our little bugs love all kinds of fiber and ferments, don't they?
Barbara - I'd forgotten about your long beautiful hair - the gym shower sounds like the perfect solution. I'm starting to get a better picture of your water system - cistern fed by a stream. Again, crossing fingers the new pump and the associated plumbing gets fixed soon and you are back in business.
As an aside, we had the opposite problem several years ago - the pump in our septic tank went out. This is kinda long and TMI about engineered septic systems, so feel free to skip. Our septic system has 3 tanks in a line attached by pipes that drain into each other, the final one is 99.99% water which is then pumped in perforated pipes - uphill at my house! into a large drain field array. (The solids settle out in the first or second tank, I forget which one - this is the one the septic pumping guy empties every 5 years or so, depending on how many people in the household.) This is normal in my area where the subsoil is clay and water can't leach down. Several years ago, we had a slight earthquake and that last tank sprung a leak since seal around the top of the tank somehow cracked due to the vibration - this was in the winter when the water table was high. Groundwater gushed into the tank! So the poor pump wore out from the 24/7 pumping. Repair was impossible with the water table that high, so DH dropped a sump pump into that tank and drained the water off onto the back of the property. I'm sure we violated several county codes, but that was the only alternative we could come up with, otherwise no showers/laundry/dishwashing/toilets - anything that would put water into the septic system. It had to be pumped or our back yard near the house would have been swamped. Luckily the rain kept everything diluted and there was no smell or other indication of this temporary "fix".
Eventually the water table fell, the septic repair guy came out, resealed the tank and installed a new pump. I ran across that sump pump in the shop the other day. Worth hanging onto. Adventures in suburbia.
Annie - very glad things have settled down, in a way, regarding your dad. At this stage, you never know what challenges you'll meet with him each day, but they don't seem insurmountable. Were you able to get the title to his car signed and taken care of?
Heather - good to hear the visit with John's old friend went well.
Vicki - glad you avoided flooding and tornadoes. The 100 degree temps have to be tough. Don't blame you one bit for wanting autumn to get here.
Tracey - Zoom and the Diabetes Prevention Class.... I've been wanting to comment about last Monday's class, but it took me until this morning to pull my thoughts together. I don't like this Zoom method of teaching. I could tell we were bored.
The way it is now, Coach Melanie just goes over the pre-determined lesson plan and tries to involve us like this: "how can we spruce up water to make it more palatable?" Her suggestions - add a slice of lemon. Add ice. One person piped up "add electrolytes" but the look on the faces on the rest of us was telling. I really miss the interaction students get before and after class. Last Monday's class was a glimpse of what's to come....it was like being at a WW meeting 25 years ago, lol.
I know she's getting paid to strictly follow the lesson plan and keep the class at one hour or under. I'm still picking up some good tips. And folks who are brand new to weight loss (not WW veterans, lol) are likely finding her teaching helpful.
Farmer's Walk - Last week, in addition to doing my stretching/bridging in the morning, I've added several sessions of "Farmer's Walk" - Farmer's Carry? throughout the day. Carrying an 8# dumbbell in each hand and walking one lap throughout my house, paying attention to good posture and the core muscles. Add that to all of the full watering cans I have been toting around, I can tell it's making a positive difference.
It's starting to warm up, going to be 85 today. I'm making the hens some cool treats for their afternoon snack and have ice cubes ready for their water dish.
Stiff breeze blowing and I've had to unfurl the flag twice already.
Stay cool, ladies.

There are some towns(my home town included) that canceled or postponed their big fire works shows for tonight. I suggested they postpone until Christmas
They are all illegal here except for the city shows but that doesn't slow the neighbors down at all. They have been shooting them off for over a month. I will be up until 2-3 most likely, just watching to make sure the trees over our back fence don't catch fire. Juniper and Eucalyptus are right against and over our fence-super flammable.

Thanks Annie! Today was a pickled beet to start my digestion, then a shrimp salad kit (1/3 of package) with a big tomato chopped, 5 jumbo shrimp and a sprinkling of bleu cheese crumbles. Its definitely a reality check huh? I think with all my beautiful food combinations I was probably eating 2000+ calories daily. My husband likes to fix his own meals for the most part, I am usually only prepping 3 or 4 meals out of the week. Which is great as I like to just be having coffee to end my eating window at 5 to 6 pm. I don't have any problem playing chef for him. Balance is a good word to what I'm feeling.ππΌπ

Pip - How could you resist not getting in the water with Yogi? Maybe you did! I'd at least be standing in it.
Debbie - I know, people go crazy with these fireworks. Hope your plants stay safe. I have otherwise lovely neighbors a few doors down that are having a family BBQ and normally have a small aerial display every year. Hope they curtail that this year.
Flea - you are having a nice long vacation. Love the photo of you and the step grands. Nice to be able to visit family and catch up on the news. Keep having fun! (You look great by the way.)
Ben Bickman: I'm a big fan of Dr. Ben Bickman, who wrote "Why We Get Sick" which addresses insulin resistance, and the roles carbs, fat and protein play in diabetes and even weight loss. I've been following his lead in cutting out sugar and "white" carbs - rice, flour, potatoes, pasta, etc.
He has another book coming out next week: "How Not to Get Sick." He made a video reviewing the book, which has a different format than his first book. It looks pretty good - I had plenty of Amazon points to spend, so ordered it. Here's a link if anyone is interested: 21 minutes.
