Round 267
July 25 – August 3, 2024
62 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
GW Maintaining between 124 - 126
Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.
History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my mother’s care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

Day/Weight/Comment
7/25 – 133.4 yesterday day and dinner went off without a hitch. After dinner was good, when about 9 pm came and oh man was it challenging. Anyhow, I resisted and got through. Completed 5 days eating on track. Exercise still not happening. I won’t bore you with the excuses.
7/26 – 134.0 Uptick. I know that this is not due to calories eaten and has to be part of those small ebbs and flows that just happen. Yes, yesterday I did allow myself to eat something at 9 PM, BUT it was selected weighed and tracked, so I am OK with that. Even with those extra calories would not have exceeded my caloric needs for the day. Looks like I have made it through 7 days of thoughtful eating. I am under 135.0, which was looking like the new norm. Trying for 130 max by end of round 268.

No more excuses for not getting in a workout while DGD is here! Saw this on a Reel lately, and it works great. Just put shoes under the training wheels of her old bike, and it’s just enough to keep the back tire off the ground. She is pedaling like crazy, you just can’t tell in this pic.
Awesome! But now to hook that up to my apple watch and get your little one to credit me some exercise calories. :P

@quiltingjaine I think I got it to finally stop. You ate likely seeing that pop up on the screen that talks about cookies and there were two prompts. I am pretty sure one says OK and the other is some management button. I have been hitting OK. This time I hit the other, made selections and finalized it. I have not seen the pop up since I did it last night.
@deepwoodslady I haven't seemed to have that issue on my laptop.

My 37th round and will celebrate ONE YEAR of this challenge on 7/31! I’ll be crunched for time over the next few days because of family and stuff that rarely happens. Won’t be including my history, “July Level up” etc. until later this challenge (probably this weekend). I do plan to evaluate my year and create new aspirations moving forward. I’ll re-read my journal. I’m glad that 7/31 is my Anniversary and 8/1 is another FRESH NEW START. I have learned that each 10-day challenge is not a simple roll-over from the previous unless there is a conscious decision to make it one. After all, this is a 10-day challenge! It’s the opportunity to tweak the previous 10 days and re-commit to forming new habits. I’m really excited and thankful! Also, I am a totally 💯 different person than I was a year ago. If you would have asked me one year ago if I would do this …. Every 10 days… for one entire year, I honestly would have said no way would I do this for one whole year!!! But now, I 💯 would do it all over again! I never missed a day, I never stopped working on “Me”…. I’ve learned more than I can imagine… So for those just starting…… One day at a time, for 10-days WORKS! Good luck to all! And thanks for being REAL! I learn from EACH POST!

@lisacantwell Welcome to the group!
@deepwoodslady so sorry for the lack of scheduled testing. It is infuriating when these things happen. Also, sorry for the challenging medical news, but step one for any problem is identifying it and now hopefully with that information they give you the best medical care to heal you.
@skyleen75 I totally get the "after" entertaining eating. That is my danger time as well. Nothing while people are there, but then I can end up in a free-for-all after the guests leave. These days, I try and "gift" as many leftovers as possible to the outgoing guests.
@Onewomanswalk @fmfdfa2020 Absolutely, "stealing" ideas is one of the benefits of being in a diverse group and sharing out journeys. Something that helps me, might not help the majority of the group, but there might be that one person it benefits. When I worked at WW, that was the value of the meetings in my mind as well. Having a group to share ideas is invaluable.
@chapter_3 Fabulous on your anniversary! Congrats!
@judefit1 @chapter_3 I love the 10 day round concept as well. At the end of each round, there is that reset and opportunity to establish that next, but sequential, goal.7 -
Thank you @quiltingjaine for keeping this going!

End of Last Round: 172.0
July 25 - 172.0 - New round, many opportunities to improve! Because I think I'm due for another drop, I'm going out on a limb and setting a goal, which I usually don't do. I'm going to try to get to 169.X this round. It's okay if I don't but I want to strive for it.
July 26 - 171.8 - After many stops and starts, I'm down exactly 10 pounds from the day I started back up on this forum after being away due to some major health issues. I marked off 172 above regardless if I bounce around for a few days, as long as I stay to plan. LIke others, I have spreadsheets and so many others ways I mark off a loss - it is so satisfying!
Onewomanswalk - I hope you don't mind me pulling this from your last post in the last round. It's a good reminder, and I really need to focus on this. 👉Intentional eating: Recognizing the food on my plate, taking small bites, consciously chewing, tasting the flavor, feeling the texture and stopping before I feel full. Giving myself time to recognize the difference between hunger and satiety.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

@deepwoodslady: your dealings with both insurance (rejection on meds) and your cardiologist (wrong test) are not only totally frustrating, they show how lacking "customer service" (and compassion) our health care system has become. It's a constant tangle of confusion and bureaucracy. I am so sorry you have to deal with that on top of worries about your health. Hang in there
@judefi1 Frustrating for sure! On top of it all the cardiologist called and wants me to start back on the Lasix water pill - one per morning. I used to take one every other day until my endocrinologist said that it was way too hard on my kidneys and yanked me off of all water pills. I questioned the RN that called from my cardiologist office on this. I reminded them that I used to only take it every other day and that as a Type 2 diabetic, I was taken off of it. They said that the Diastolic Dysfunction issue is what is calling for the water pill and they told me to go back to the hospital around the 1st or 2nd of August for some bloodwork to check on my kidneys. However, they want me to dig out my old bottle and start on them today and then we'll check and see how it is affecting my kidney function numbers. How much more can a person pee? As a diabetic, I already spend enough time in the bathroom! I know one thing for sure, I better start taking my water consumption more seriously when on the Lasix. I already have a big cup with straw next to my decalf coffee. If I sip the coffee then I am requiring myself to take a sip of water too. Thanks for the well wishes for me.7 -

@RichardHaw I am seeing your high weight vs where you are now. Have you found that your knee improved any with the weight loss? There is some rule of thumb that for every 10 lb weight on your body that that is like 40 lb on your knee. Hopefully your efforts on your weight are paying off!!5 -

07/24 …..188.6….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
07/25 -DNW- (Trend weight DNW) Nopity Nope. No way in Hades. Not going to weigh today after the travel yesterday. Off the charts. I need at least one buffer day to keep up my spirits while I build up my resolve and my nerve to step on the scale. Good luck this round my friends. DD and DGS will be back today for the next 4 days. Pray for me.
07/26 -DNW- (Trend weight DNW) Today is my usual no-weigh Friday. I was still off the rails yesterday so it’s just as well. In regards to Foodie daughter, is it okay to keep blaming her and her Mary Poppins endless tote bags of food during her 4 days per week here or should I be blaming myself when she doesn’t actually sit down on top of me and force it down my pie hole? Ah….truth hurts. I am coming to realize that I do wonderfully as long as I’m not around food. I am safe at home around food most of the time as it is carefully selected things I keep in my home. However, I am Horrible in travel, during holidays and occasions, and around other people when they eat. It is horrid. After all this time, I’ve gained resolve but absolutely no willpower or strength in my bid for more self-control. It’s a hard realization but an honest one. That Hershey bar of @quiltingjaine s, I would have licked the melted chocolate off the paper. No, it would have never made it to the freezer! Did I mention I’m not a child and I’m actually 64 years old? I’ve had a LIFETIME to gain a backbone. I’m having a lot of self-realization in a different light this morning. I hope these feelings last and help me move forward in a more positive and successful manner. Did I mention that my older friend who broke her hip and her pelvic (two different falls) has now fallen again and broke two vertebra in her back and also her pelvic again? I’m glad for the Friday morning Fosamax and hope it someday helps me better than it is helping her. Health is important, chocolate is not. It’s frivolous at my current weight and not very good for my diabetes either!

It’s DH’s birthday, so I’m taking him out for dinner. He wants fish, so I’ll be able to stay within bounds. I am baking him a cake, but I plan to give some of it away. 😊

Hi, I'm Charissa, back for another round. On vacation starting 7/31. I haven't found my travel scale, so I probably won't have access to a scale. Not sure if that's good or bad
Thank you, @QuiltingJaine, for keeping us focused in 2024! I am looking forward to a successful round!
So here we go 2024... my motto(s) - All the things I need to read daily!!!
🏋🏾♀️ Don't think, just do it!!
Eat well 🥗to Live Well 🚢✈️🧳
H2O - Make it Flow 💦💦💦
Lose weight in the kitchen ⚖️, get fit in the gym🏋🏾♀️
Note to Self: Alcohol kills weight loss as the focus is burning alcohol calories and not fat calories!
Goals this round:
- Closing my rings M-S🚶🏽
- Water consumption > 60 ounces 💧

Round goals: > 3 miles/day walking (1:00 time wise), more stretching as I'm having some aching and aggravation of knee and back issues, and trying to get better at golf (this is my year to actually learn how to play the game).
7/25 Thu: 193.7, walked 1:04, hit the driving range for golf. Still having problems with right quads and knee.
@RichardHaw I am seeing your high weight vs where you are now. Have you found that your knee improved any with the weight loss? There is some rule of thumb that for every 10 lb weight on your body that that is like 40 lb on your knee. Hopefully your efforts on your weight are paying off!!
@SModa61 The weight loss has made a big difference, actually did a 5K in June but running is not something I do much, bad knees are genetic. I am nothing if not a work in progress.5 -

Goal : I am healthy weight/BMI but unhappy with weight around my belly. My goal is to focus on cutting fat for few days and then increase calorie intake and strength training to build muscles.
Ultimately Focus on form and body fit than weight. Goal for this round would be to shed fat.
USW-135.5lbs :: RSW-124.5lbs :: RGW-123lbs :: UGW-118lbs
7/25 - 124.5 lbs. Followed IF 20:4. Continue another week and focus on fat loss. Plan weekend since that is when I do most damage.
7/26 - 124.7 lbs. Closed the eating window and then slipped and had some cake and hummus. Got to be more careful. I was full and closed window but hubby slipped and I consequently deviated. Need to be more strict on sticking to plan. Weekend is where I slip the most.

The people who offered to buy my house have become nightmares, long story, but everyday seems to be a new chapter of a horror novel- it's not that bad. But the stress is getting to me, little time to exercise but I am squeezing in my pickleball.

7/25:120.2 - I feel I cheat - waiting several days for the challenge to start I cannot help to be mindful of what I am eating and make better choices. I did play Hot Pickleball (similar to Hot Yoga, the warehouse is not air-conditioned) last night. Got up an hour earlier today and have been hauling things out to the curb (this should count for exercise) for trash day. First day in several I did not wake up with a headache, been so stressed - but prayed to God and he answered and resolved what seemed an overwhelming obstacle so I am sure letting go and trusting has released some of the tension I was carrying in my shoulders.
7/26: 119.8- Funny, I was mindful until yesterday - then careless yesterday and I will pay the price tomorrow...Had little time for dinner and found a TJ mandarin chicken- nothing is healthy there! But quickly made it and used half the sauce. I know I will be bloated tomorrow- I am going to repeat and repeat that so I have no reason to be upset. Played pickleball last night- Got to Sam's club right before it closed and they had moving boxes- Yeah! Slept well last night, feel so much better today.

Hon, if you feel constant headaches on waking up, please monitor your Blood pressure closely. Usually recurrent heavy head feeling or headache may be a sign of high BP. BP tends to be a bit higher when we usually wake up and stress and improper sleep adds on to it. Take care!4 -
@quiltingjaine Your granddaughter is beautiful! Also you reminded me that I could really use a spa day.
Thank you! We certainly think so and that little cutie in her lap is her 2 year old, our only great grand.
@deepwoodslady Our medical system is FUBAR for sure!
