Heather - Checked back and forth a bit, since I was not working on all cylinders... Well done on the writing again! Hope you enjoy your Thursday, even if it's not yours alone.
Annie - Thank you dear, thinking about you. I've got an alarm at my gate, let's me know when anyone goes in and out. About $35 through Amazon, might give you a little more peace when your dad is outside, as well. Just a thought. Enjoy your ride, sounds like you could use a little break.
Kylia - The grands look thrilled about their new licenses! They're all growing at a rate that's just head-spinning.
Margaret - Thank you! So far so good... 🐱
My version of Machka's list:
• 3 wins in past 36 hours
- Woke up after enough sleep that I felt myself again
- Didn't let Tuesday's issue grow into a week's problems
- Talked to my son at length this morning in his relaxed communication space - texting
• 3 areas for improvement in past 36 hours
- Floors. Freaking floors. I really need to do floors.
- Not let momentarily physical problems throw me into a mental tail-spin
- Sit down when I'm sick. The laundry will wait.
• 1 Intention for today
- Floors!
•1 thing I am excited about
- Don't really need excitement per se. Joy is enough.
• 3 Things I would like to have happen if the day were to play out the way I would like it
- Making chicken, sausage and shrimp scampied with Cajun spices and roasted garlic and onions over basmati rice for dinner. Maybe a vegetable. Broccoli?
- Pop up to Aldi and get a vegetable to go with dinner, one that my husband will like.
- Floors!
Later babies,
My energy's coming back, can you tell? 😁
Love y'all,

It’s been so hot here, I’ve been simply lethargic. Supposed to get over 107 again today and up to Sunday. Breaking all kinds of records. I did get a 30 min walk in this morning and need to do another once I’m finished here to put the reservation signs out. Oh well, part of living in the desert.
Dinner yesterday was steak, gravy with veggies (peas, carrots, celery, onion, seasonings) and bits of beef, Mexican rice, salad (olives, Romain hearts, cucumber, tomato, olive oil and vinegar). Orange for dessert. Supper was 1/2 apple, 1/2 whole wheat pita, 1T fresh ground peanut butter. Snack was a Fage cherry yogurt. Under calories by 365. Breakfast was old fashioned oatmeal with 1T muesli, 1T butter, and 1/2 banana. 18+ plants-seasonings and muesli had different types of nuts and herbs in them.

Barbie - very nice that your daughter has a way to help line up drivers in the future. I just checked - my little county has a type of "taxi" service affiliated with the bus system and serves the area I'm in. $3 plus 30 cents a mile - people can use it to get to medical appointments in town, grocery shopping, etc. It appears it would take a person all the way to Olympia and the hospitals there, I'm going to check. We need to reserve it a couple days ahead of time, a driver with a car does the transport. I see them around town sometimes.
Kylia - so glad you found you DH's missing heart trinket - What a stroke of luck. Was my gold necklace there with it? Can you believe how old your grands are already? Amazing since you don't look a day over 40.
Lisa - happy to hear you are feeling better today. Onward and upward. The floors will wait, tell them to mind their own business if you want to put it off another day or two. That's my strategy!
Heather - good job doing the floor exercises yesterday ... and getting back up. And lifting weights and wall pushups. You are in great shape. It took me a while, but I eventually came to the conclusion that being busy doing things with others isn't a virtue. When it gets to the point that it's stressful, time to give it up or cut way back on the jaunts and visitors, like you said. Nice to hear you're back writing again.
Tracey- The bus service sounds so dangerous with drug activity.
Mo - hope your headache is better today. Interesting that your mom is losing weight - if so, is this intentional? What kind of dog is Rose? She sounds like good company for you- nice to have a daycare to give you some peace, lol.
Annie - I forgot to mention earlier - happy to hear you're able to book the trip to Las Vegas and will have someone to babysit your dad. You need YOU time - something fun to look forward to!
Rita - "There are no bad foods, it's just the amount" - I'm sure that's true. It's the amount that challenges me at times. When my A1C was checked a few months ago and was up, Dr. Lisa said go ahead and have a treat once a week or so, it won't throw me off. So far I really haven't - luckily, sugary stuff doesn't tempt me anymore. I guess good sourdough does it for me but again, hard to stop at one slice. I'm getting tired of nuts for a snack - though they really do the trick filling me up for a bit. The other day I just grabbed a tablespoon of plain cottage cheese. That worked too.
I've been experimenting with some different recipes using almond flour, egg and a few other ingredients, making fake wraps and the like. Not impressed. I threw the last batch over the fence for the crows and even they weren't tempted -- it took several days for them to disappear.
I follow this Dr. Litrel on FB - he seems like a wise fella, wish there were more like him. I ran across one of his reels this morning: "being old is about loss of mobility". Amen, brother. He talks about the benefits of strength training and lifting weights - I need constant motivation to get back in the habit.

Today with my bone broth rather than have crackers I am having cucumber slices topped with a piece of avocado and cheese. Adds a veggie and no processed gluten free cracker. Yes crackers are a plant but have little fiber. Cukes with skins have much more fiber!
Rita it surprises me that foods that could spike insulin are not discouraged in your diabetic class and or limited. Sounds like they are still on the calories model. A serving of soda and a serving of almonds are about the same calorie but do not have the same affects on your insulin. Also 30 calories are used to digest the almonds, the fiber in the almonds feeds the gut, there is no fiber in soda nor calories used to digest it. Does your class bring out this fact? When you have too much insulin in your blood that is what is turned into fat. Your body handles fats and sugars differently in the digestion process. The 80's pyramid got it wrong. It is insulin gone awry because of what you eat that puts the pounds on. This is why fiber is your friend. Fiber slows down insulin response. So for me there are food choices that do not love me. Those would be high processed food, sugar, and starches that do not have fiber think potato without the skins because they are not good for insulin levels. My diet is not perfect and I am still tweeking it as I learn more but I no longer eat fried foods, rarely starches without fiber, greatly reduced my sugar consumption when giving up gluten foods. My blood levels will not be tested for a few more months so it will be interesting to see if they follow how well my blood pressure is doing now.2 -

I wasn't able to add to my above response that what bacteria you have in your digestive system also has a profound impact on your metabolism. They took stool samples from thin mice and gave them to overweight mice and the overweight mice lost weight. When they did the reverse by taking stool samples from overweight mice and giving it to the thin mice the thin mice became overweight.2

Ha! Thought about you Lanette as I was walking back in from Aldi, and I was thinking, "Yeah, the floors are going to have to wait for one more day..." Not quite as recovered as I thought, though I'm certainly on the way.
Somehow, I lost the "1 thing I'm grateful for" in that list above. I'm so lucky to have my family, both near and far. Talked to my son, my daughter and my husband (twice) this morning. Called my sister to wish her a happy birthday, too. I'm so grateful for their presence in my life.
More later, kids,
One more nap on my list, it looks like,
Love,

Started this before dinner. Then took the kittens out on their harnesses after helping DH with short project. The kitties are so funny outside! They were more into it this evening. Cali even tried climbing a tree a couple of times. I only let her get as far as I could reach her if she got stuck. Tori found the ground hornet nest again. I don't think she got stung, but she and I ran quickly away.
Hoping for some reflection/planning time while on vacation.
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts, ideas, and encouragement!

Well,
my day did not turn out as I wanted it to if perfect..... Counselor totally is in my corner, and is going to do a cash/barter system with me, but is also going to have her BIL who is a lawyer help her send a demand letter to the insurance system and medicare to get paid, and that she is seriously concerned about my mental health, wants me to consider medication and maybe level up the amount of help I am getting. Yesterday I was at mom's and although she said thank you - my brother again threatened to kill me. I called him out on being a bully but did it alone, not calling her for help after as I knew that was another expense. Right now the health care system is claiming even though I have bank statements saying I have paid in a timely fashion that I have had all my claims since 12/31/23 denied and they are taking me to collections for almost $11,000 - and I really have not had that much medical care in the last 8-9 months, but just the mammogram I got they are claiming is valued at $2500..... this is a financial nightmare. the stress is not good for me.
Sorry for being a downer......
just where I am right now.
Kim in N. California15 -
Oh Kim. It is all so nightmarish. I'm so sorry you are going through all of this, especially after being so hopeful for qualifying for Medicare and how it could change your medical care. It is heartbreaking. Do you have a political representative that could help advocate for you?

Hi Kim, If you pay $10.00 a month and tell them that is all you can afford, they must take it. You may need to look into AARP to supplement your Medicare. It isn't cheap—it is about $336.00 per month. Make an appointment and see your options; open enrollment is coming up. There is always an option. I always say that they cannot squeeze blood out of a turnip.
Allie, I am so happy that you are going on a cruise. Ensure you get "me time" each week when looking after the baby. I told my friend that I wanted to go on a cruise to Greece or the Mediterranean. She said she was in. I also want to go on an Alaskan Cruise.
Lisa, I say yay for naps! I planned to take one today, but I worked on my project instead: cleaning and sweeping under my bed. I thought the dust mites might cause my allergies and headaches, so I cleaned and swept under the bed. I am glad I did, even though it wasn't enjoyable under the bed. I found missing socks, hair ties, multiple dog bones, my mom's cookie bag with cookies, pizza crust, various balls, dog toys, a teddy bear, and numerous plastic bottles on my husband's side of the bed. I swept up so much dog hair, too, with dust. I am thankful that all that stuff, including my son's Ninja Turtle, is no longer under the bed. My dog uses my bed to hide things. I am glad she was in daycare because she hates it when I look under the bed and bother her stuff. I am thankful for friendship as well. I worked out for 45 minutes.
Kylie, I am happy you have three things you can say are done. My three things are that 1. My bed has clean sheets, 2. My bed is clean underneath, and 3. I stayed within my macros, and I worked out.
Lanette, the headache was back, but I was able to clear it up. Your positivity makes me smile. Have a wonderful day.
I am going to bed now; tomorrow is the beginning of my work stretch. Have a wonderful day.
Xo,
Monique

Good Morning,
Kim What a nightmare!!! I do hope that this all gets straightened out sooner than later. Maybe we should put your brother with Debbie's MIL and see if either can survive.......I am glad your mom said thank you, but you shouldn't have to put up with the other abuse. (((HUGS))) held extra tight!
Monique Some days my 3 dones are only that I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, and fed the kitties. I think you did a great job!!!!
Speaking of kitties, they are being wild children this morning! Running, jumping, climbing, fighting....I want that much energy when I wake up!!!
My CPAP actually woke my DH up in the middle of the night leaking so badly at the hose!!!! I still don't know what I did to make it stop, but we did both go back to sleep. If I have to think of something positive for it, my brain fog doesn't seem as bad, but I am still exhausted when I wake up! Sleep doctor appointment when I get back from vacay.
I hope you all have a best choice, healing, and safe day!

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Kim what an awful situation to be in! Hope there is an advocate for you somewhere. So many hugs for you!
I'm feeling the stress this morning. Dad kept doing his jigsaw puzzle, which hurts his back. He was up in the night and woke me up for more Tylenol. He asked me three times in the same five minutes about his car registration, which is not due until next July.
Today Teddy has a vet appointment. He has a bad heart murmur and lately has a funny cough that could be heart failure. Dad is supposed to go to his class so I can take Teddy to the vet, but he won't go if his back hurts. So I guess the options are either push my dad into class (at least for two hours), take him with me to the vet, get a sitter, or leave him home alone. Hmm.
I hate to ask his sitter last minute, but I guess I should. She was here yesterday. So I guess I will wait until eight o'clock and text her. She is a lifesaver.
Then we are supposed to go out for dinner with my buddy tonight. I think my Dad can get through that if I can keep him away from the jigsaw puzzle today.
Hmmm. Maybe another cup of tea will help. Today will be a test of my compassion.
Have a great day ladies! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Yay! My sitter said move the vet appointment to this afternoon, so I did, so she is coming. It will be at three, so we should be back in time for dinner. I even have time to take my dad to urgent care this morning. So it's all going to work out! Yay!

Was planning on going for a ride but the front tire needed air. Kirby put air in it and if it has a slow leak i would have ended up walking it home. I decided to pass on the ride today and can get on the spin bike when I get home.

Kim - So many hugs... not helpful, I know. Reach out if it might help. Hope you can enjoy your breakfast with your friend.
Annie - Hugs coming your way, too, darlin'. No easy answers when you're trying to take care of everyone you love.
Monique - Sending you off to your work shift with support and respect for what you do.
Tracey - Congratulating you on the last work day of your first week back. Well done!
Woke up feeling well, and so grateful for that, even more than usual this week. I've got a cap on a molar that was getting a little iffy, so yesterday I finally broke down and called the same dentist office where I sent Corey months back. They got me in for a cleaning and exam in less than an hour, and did an absolutely great job on cleaning my teeth!
Added to that, the dentist looked at the X-rays, scans and the tooth and said the cap was in great shape, but that if it came off, or if I had any issues with it, they'd work me in at any time as needed. Nice guy, down-to-earth, and didn't make me feel like I was a potential income source, but like I was a human thinking about her health. Refreshing.
And now my teeth feel all clean and spiffy... Love that feeling.
Hope it's a lovely Friday for all of you... and for those who hurt, all my heart and hugs.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

In the talk The Gut Autoimmune Connection I listened to last night. The role of fermented foods was discussed. If a patient is having a hard time digesting fibrous foods the first recommendation is to add fermented foods. Again slow is the way to go. Because of all the antibiotic use both for illness and in agriculture here our guts sometimes needs to help with added probiotics. If this does not work best to go to a gastrologist who understands the importance of the microbiome and tests you for missing gut bacteria. They can direct you to what probiotics to take. Trying to reduce my own exposure to antibiotics by eating organic produce or at least no GMO, organic meat and /or grassfeed meats, wild caught fish not farmed. I will only take an antibiotic as a last resort. I still remember how sick I got a month after going to Mexico and getting intestinal issues. I know my gut illness made me susceptible to the Swine Flu. (Gives me compassion for those who got so sick with COVID.)
Protect my liver...feed my gut to protect me! New mantra for me!3 -
Jake had a dentist appointment yesterday and I drove him there and waited in the car with Annie for over an hour (our longest wait, so far) and she was great. She watched out the window a bit before lying down and going to sleep. I played my favorite music on my phone through the car speakers and read my e book.
Kim, what a mess. Sending hugs.
Annie, I noticed with my husband, that the less he is able to do, the more he tells me how I should be doing it.
Monique cleaning under the bed is something I should do more often
Lisa, glad you are feeling better.

Morning ladies
Watching the Today show and then will go get bloodwork done, and then come back and do laundry.
Kim- thats a horrible situation and yes you can send in as little as 5 dollars a month and there isn't a snowball chance in he double toothpicks that any credit bureau can touch you. Also there are credit companies you can work with that can really bring down the bill..
But yes hopefully your counselor can help getting things under control.
4 -
Kim -- many, many hugs. I like Flea's idea - get your congressional representative involved and also your state insurance commissioner, and attorney general as well. Sending you to collections over a mistake they made is unconscionable and I wonder how many others they've done it to. And what Mo said about $10 a month - if they accept that payment, it should stop the collection process. (Thank you Allie for your input, looks like I was remembering right.) Perhaps the attorney has already covered this ground but if not, it might be worth a shot. Sorry your brother is being such a pain as well.
Annie- good to hear things are falling together for you today. Lots to juggle. Your dad's sitter is a lifesaver for sure.
Mo - good job getting after that collection under the bed, hope it helps your allergies. I once found a brand new pair of shoes, still in the box, under my bed. I was looking for something yukky I thought my dog or cat might have deposited.
Lisa - that dentist office sounds great. Nice they'll be able to work you in quickly if needed. Nice to run your tongue over smooth teeth!
Lots of errands to run in town this morning, the main thing is new walking shoes and New Balance doesn't open until 10.
Had a lunch set up today with girlfriends R, T and L, but begged off, don't feel like sitting and talking - sciatica flaring a little. Plus there's been some disagreement on where to eat. The one place - good food but limited menu (all sandwiches), very expensive, very noisy, limited seating plus they don't post prices which rubs me the wrong way. The gal who runs it is good friends with R. I understand R wanting to support her friend.
But there are other options in town with better seating, larger menus with chicken caesar salads (my fave) and prices posted on the menu. Ah well, will deal with that another day.
Make it a great Friday.
