Rosemarie - great to read you have a lot of happy things going on in your life. I've been meaning to ask you, did you pick up any good tips at the yoga retreat? I also noticed the wide leg pants coming back in. Not for me either. Seems jeans are worn to nearly all functions these days whereas when we were kids, our moms and grandmothers wore dresses. Times change.
Kylia - hope your DH is in a better mood today and hope the banquet this evening goes smoothly!

Carol - I'm with you on old lady jeans. I realize I don't wear them out like I used to since I quit working, plus I spend more time in sweats. So getting something comfortable wins out over stylish. Happy Anniversary!
Annie - glad Teddy had a good vet visit and the sitter worked out well. Happy to see your worry lessened a bit. I was raised every meal was at the table, TV off. I tried hard to implement that after I was married, my DH would go for it a few times then carry his food into the living room and eat from the coffee table in front of the TV. Stains on the rug to prove it.
Your comment about shoe recommendations are exactly why I prefer buying shoes in a store, with a well - educated employee for guidance. Customer service yesterday was lacking. Two employees, both ignored me as I wandered around for 5 minutes then finally asked one for help. He must have been brand new, he finally got the older gal to help who was working in the back room. Every other time I'd been in the store, I had someone at my side from the minute I walked in the door.
Heather - loved hearing about that family meal. Nice to get everyone together like that, it had been a while for you. A milestone and testament to your healing.
I wonder if we'll hear from Barbara this weekend? KJ? Hope everyone is doing well.
Lisa - always exciting to look at land and plan and dream of building the perfect house. Looking back, some of the best times DH and I had together were doing just that. We bought the land but didn't make it any farther due to his illness. So now, it's an investment the tax man likes to remind me of every February.

DrKatieBug ... I won't say that my mom's place is perfect ...but it's the best I will find in my area for long-term care! I am feeling blessed that she is there.

Lanette ... I used to be a New Balance girl, but switched to Asics when I couldn't find my regular shoe. Just an option. And the thicker soles made a huge difference on the impact to my knees. I'm ready for a new pair of shoes and will be looking at that feature regardless of what brand I buy.

The rest of the story... Well, it boils down to "I'm a goober." Surprise!
Remember me cranking about Corey's passport was already back and my application was still in limbo? Got a politely worded notification yesterday, with the humiliating proof included, that I NEVER SIGNED THE CHECK. I take back every scathing word. *sigh* The re-submitted, signed check will be put in the mail on Monday. Color me goober... 😳

No machines where we will have class- it is just an empty gym(like high school gym with a stage in front). Will try it for a month. If I like it, I will keep going, if not, that is ok, I tried. Not sure I want to keep going to class every other day either. It is hard sometimes pushing myself to go twice a week.
Before, with the first teacher, She did an "abs workout" class for half hour after we did our hour of zumba- That would be ok because I would already be there. I am sure she won't want to do that- It is already a bit late/dark when we get out from our regular class during the winter. (not well lit parking lot and not the best part of town)

I started to make notes last night and then just had a hard time keeping up. I was quite tired after being back at work for a week I guess.
Beth - Such wonderful news getting your Mom into a home where you can have peace of mind.
Heather - what a lovely dinner. I love those big family meals too. Maybe that’s what I’ll ask for the family to do for my birthday.
Today I stepped into your territory for the first time ever. I want to see a monologue, I guess it would be called, although there was a story to it, maybe a one man play. Anyhow, we have a week here called The Fringe, it is a lot of different plays and acts running almost continuously for 10 days I think.
Kaitlyn and Brodey’s friend produced this one. It was presented by a drag queen called Tragideen. I quite enjoyed it, it was political to our province so I won’t go into the detail of it. As a bonus I got to see their friend for the first time since his wedding three years ago.
He calls Kaitlyn and Brodey Mom and Dad which is funny as they were each born a month apart and he is in the middle.

Lanette - I think the 70’s lifestyle as a whole is starting to come back. I never liked bell bottomed jeans.
I hadn’t gone to church for probably 15 years when my Son in Law’s grandmother invited me to go to the Grandparent’s Day service to celebrate with Jonah on his 1st birthday. I loved her and loved that she loved and cherished my daughter (his parents don’t) so I went. I wore a dress and took my Bible with me, I was shocked to see so many wearing jeans and leggings even the pastor wore jeans.
I still can’t do it, I have gone a few times and the least I can do is a dress pants and a nice sweater or blouse.
We don’t eat at the table either. I keep thinking we should, it would help us communicate more I think.
We do when the kids are here most of the time though.

As mentioned above I went out with Kaitlyn and Brodey today, he even bought my ticket. After the performance we walked a little 10 or so booth market. There was a purse that caught my eye, it was leather with flowers on it, just a pretty purse. I said it’s probably quite pricy as it’s leather and it’s stiff and I don’t know about a stiff purse. We parted ways and I went to my car. I stopped at Goodwill on my way home to try to find a light sweater. When I came out I looked at my phone and Kaitlyn had texted to tell me that Brodey had gone back to get the purse for me. It was $485. Needless to say he didn’t get it, but I think it’s wonderful he thought to try.
I have been getting little boils in various parts of my body over the last year. I haven’t had one for a month or so but another one is coming now. I have read that there are a couple of reasons for it. One is an underlying infection and the other is a compromised immune system. I should have looked this up and made a doctor’s appointment before I started my job. I guess I need to try to get my immune system built up. I need to start eating better anyway so this will help.
Well I’m off to bed.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
I am working on bringing the exercise bike and weights upstairs. That way I can watch Dad while I do it. I started by gathering the mountain of small blankets out of the corner, and took six bags to Goodwill. So I have an empty spot for the bike. I just need to get it up the stairs.
I have been so sedentary lately that I am stiff and weak. It's uncomfortable to work out but it's uncomfortable to be sedentary as well, and risks much worse.
Dad had to cancel walking yesterday because his back was sore. So I gave him Tylenol and applied the heating pad. Next thing I know he is out with the weed eater. He has no appreciation of the pace of healing. I hope he will be okay to go to church today.

Good Sunday!
DH "behaved" if you will yesterday. I was so busy at work that I rarely spike to him-lol! The banquet went well other than the food! Let's just say there was pork in the salad, pork was the meat, pork in the green beans. I ate mashed potatos, corn, pasta salad, a piece of apple pie, and a piece of cherry pie (fillings only as I rarely eat crusts) Not a good eating day at all! I did manage to win 2 guns and was high bidder on a large Terry Redlin picture-$200! That is the cheapest I have ever gotten one of his paintings! I wanted one at last banquet and my last bid was $900! All I can say is the guy who bought everything I wanted at that one paid top dollar!
DH's hearing aids cleaned and changed, cpap machines both cleaned and changed, laundry going
Heading to car show....I think.
Annie Well done on making necessary changes for your health! Glad vet appointment went well for Teddy.
Tracey I would expect you are tired after being back at work! I hope you enjoy some rest this weekend.
TV and eating.....my DH turns on TVs the moment he wakes up or walks in a room. There is a TV at our breakfast counter where we eat most of our meals. I rarely turn a TV on. Don't need the extra noise.
Better get some clothes on....I have both skinny and wide leg jeans. Depends on what shoes or shirt I want to wear.

I really needed this weekend.
Last week was a 5-day in the office week which I don't do very often anymore. That's my second one in the last month, but the 5-day week in the office before that was in November or December. I find going to the office for 5 days to be tiring ... mainly because of the commuting time and having to be "on" every day.
So we didn't do much this weekend. We got out briefly yesterday to pick up a few small things, and then again today to go to our storage unit. Today, we decided to stop for coffee and a snack at one of our favourite places ... we had chocolate espresso and hazelnut nut pie which was very nice! Happy Anniversary to Us!
Thank you all for the Anniversary wishes.
Otherwise we unpacked, did laundry, changed the sheets, did a bit of cleaning, slept, read, watched TV, listened to music, and I even started colouring again!
We've got bamboo sheets on our beds now. They do warm up where I'm sleeping but I can move my leg or arm or head and they're really nice and cool! It's lovely!

I have some old fashioned oats and want to make overnight oats. The recipe I found called for chia seeds, but oddly enough, my favorite grocery store did not have any. Any of you that make overnight oats, what/how do you make them? Are chia seeds necessary for the recipe? I never tried this and want to give it a go.
Dinner yesterday: not very healthy but good! I love corn on the cob and what is shown is 1/3 of a cob (I ended up eating the whole cob!) The potato salad was made with sour cream, no mayo. My DH hasn’t been in the mood to cook this past week, so easy meals: canned beans, pre-cooked ham, and potato salad which is about the only thing he did cook. Said he put a ‘whole mess’ of veggies in it: carrots, celery, onion, cucumbers, radishes and I’m not sure what else he put in it!
Another day in the pay booth. It was pretty busy yesterday, but I did manage to do yoga and a 15 minute walk in place video, along with practicing my Spanish and reading this week’s class on “self-talk” in spoiler.Overview

This week we are focusing on self-talk. Maybe the voice in your head told you it was too hard to become healthy or not worth the effort? Your inner voice, or the dialog that goes on in your head, is an incredibly powerful force that has a big impact on your ability to reach your health and wellness goals. In this session, you will learn about both negative and positive self- talk. The goal of the session is to learn how to catch and rephrase negative self-talk to position yourself for success.
Self-Talk
Every day, as you go about your life, you have an inner voice inside your head. Your inner voice is constant, even though you may not realize it. Even though these

thoughts are in the background of your mind, they can still greatly affect how you feel about yourself.
Negative Self- Talk
Negative self-talk is the inner voice that causes you to compare yourself to others and critique yourself. Even though these thoughts may not be true, they can still be powerful. Negative self-talk is when you:
➢ Compare yourself to others
➢ Want to give up
➢ Have black & white thinking that leads you to believe that things are either good or bad
➢ Make excuses
➢ Say you “should” have done something differently
Negative self-talk is not uplifting and can leave you feeling down and defeated.

How Does Self-Talk Develop?
Think about the span of your life, and imagine just how many messages you have received from family, friends, co-workers, and the media. Self-talk develops from all of the messages you have been exposed to.

For example, negative self-talk can stem from your spouse putting you down every time he/she sees you eating a cookie. Negative self-talk could also develop from comparing yourself to models in magazines.
On the other hand, positive self-talk can blossom from these same sources. For example, positive self-talk can develop when a friend consistently points out your strengths. It can also stem from compliments as others notice the positive changes you are making.
Effects of Self-Talk
Self-talk can help or hinder your progress. If you are constantly telling yourself that you are a failure, you will start to believe it. Not only will this cause you to give up on your goals, but also it can greatly affect your emotional and physical health.
Your internal voice plays a major role in determining the success you will have. Fuel your brain with the message that you can do it!
Take Control of Your Thoughts
The key to taking control of your health is to take control of your thoughts.
If you have noticed that you are engaging in negative self-talk, stop and ask yourself why. Is it because of something your co-worker said to you? Maybe you

watched a movie and started to compare yourself to one of the actors. Do not let the sources of the negative self-talk have power over you. You are the only person who should have control over your thoughts. Get the power back!
Rephrasing Negative Self-Talk
Overtime, negative self-talk can become a habit if you let it. Just like any other negative habit, breaking it takes time and effort, but it is worth it!
The next time you have a negative thought about yourself or the situation, try this simple three step process:
1. Stop the thought in its track
▪ Try interrupting the thought by telling yourself “Stop!” out-loud
2. Hear what you are saying
▪ Notice how your thought is making you feel
3. Rephrase the negative thought
▪ Find a positive thought to think about instead

Negative self-talk is different for everyone. Below are some phrases that you may have said to yourself at one time or another.
Negative Self-Talk Examples:
✔ There is no point in eating healthy. I will gain the weight back anyway.
✔ Losing weight is impossible.
✔ I’m too tired to exercise. I’ll just watch TV instead.
✔ I can’t eat breakfast every day. I don’t have time.
✔ I ate one doughnut and I ruined my diet. So, I might as
well eat the whole box.
✔ This program is too hard. I should just quit.
✔ I hate eating vegetables.
✔ My sibling/friend lost 10 pounds. I should be able to lose 10
pounds too.

Rita The Chia seeds help thicken the oatmeal without heating.
I had to go to another store to find them too. I do need to remember if I have them without letting them soak in a liquid first to drink plenty of water. They are good for fiber and omega threes.
Beth Thank you for the idea of chia seed jam. I do add chia seeds to my no sugar yogurt in the morning. I had a bit of no sugar jam on it. I like the idea of trying chia jam!
Yesterday discussion was on how to reduce exposure to toxins that may cause disruptions in your body. I do many of there already. Try to store in glass...minimal health and beauty products...using cleaners like vinegar and baking soda, cook my meals in stainless steel or cast iron (inherited from my mom)...eat organic when I can.
Goals:
Short term: remove all non stick coated cookware (they have forever chemicals used for coating)
Long term remove current very old current carpet (plastic and coated with scotch guard) and have hard wood floors with a wool or cotton rug on top.

the church I grew up in is now like what you described-
The church I go to now is very conservative Baptist church. Men wear suits and ties, even the little boys, ladies all wear dresses/skirts. I have seen maybe 3 women who wear pants.
Because the guys all wear suits, they keep the AC on pretty high so I make sure to take a little jacket with me. Winter time I have even taken an extra shawl to put on my legs. I wear leggings under my dresses so still very comfortable.
I wore dresses to church when I was growing up. I hadn't worn any in quite a few years so went to the thrift stores and bought quite a few dresses and skirts..

great job winning at the banquet and that your dh behaved himself. It is just the little things that mean a lot.
My dh is the same way with the tv. They are in about every room. Only room that doesn't have one that he uses is the bathroom(and then he has his phone with him-that is why he takes so long to get ready).There is one in the garage too. He puts it on as soon as he goes out there, even if it is just to feed the cats. He also has it up loud, hear it clearly through the walls- did that last night, was glad when he turned it off to go to bed. I like dark and quiet, he sleeps fine with it loud and bright.
For him, he is used to a lot of noise(growing up it was his mom yelling all the time). He falls asleep with a tv on all the time, either in his room or the bedroom. He had a hard time when he would come to my house when we were dating because it was too quiet for him.
I turn the tv on some nights but many days/evenings, I just leave it off, enjoy the quiet. The quiet seems to irritate him.

Lisa - It's been a while since I sent an unsigned check, but not long ago I was writing checks to pay bills, got distracted, came back and slipped a check into the wrong envelope and realized it right after I'd sealed it. So I slit it open, got it straightened out and taped the envelope shut again. So you don't have an exclusive on gooberness.
Rita - I loved the self-talk examples. Lots to think about. I know I don't realize the impact negative ones have on my outlook about eating and life in general. So it's good to be reminded!
Kylia - glad your DH was in a better mood last night. WOW the stars were lining for you to win! Had you known, it might have been a good day to buy a lottery ticket or two. Have you ever been fond of pork? When I was a kid, hogs were the main livestock "crop" for my dad, we had a freezer full. Today, pork just doesn't taste the same. Maybe what they are feeding them? If I put a pork roast in the crockpot with a jar of salsa, that's OK. Bacon and ham are OK too.

No call from youngest this weekend. He is ahead of me so its already early Monday morning where he is. I was hoping he got in with the internal doctor. I would imagine next step is seeing a urologist. I am of course thinking the worst but I am hoping it could be some weird tropical thing from Cuba.
Yesterday I ate my chicken thighs which were yummy. Saved the skin and bones to simmer into more broth. I seem to be always making my broth, most every two weeksor so. My plan yesterday was to make a veggie steamer bag, which was broccoli in a light cheesy sauce. I added my leftover hearty grain rice from the day before, put in a Pyrex container, laid the chicken on top and let bake. The chicken thighs were already a cooked roasted chicken so just heating them up from the fridge. The broccoli was so mushy! I ate the chicken, but the rest was a bust. I was planning on crackers with cheese and olive bruschetta, but I had about 10 Paul Newman oreo like cookies, 4 squares of chocolate and some bottlecap candy. Not my finest afternoon. My son had clicked online and I saw him in Messenger chat but then he was gone again. Technology is a good thing, but in this case it was frustrating. I did talk with eldest sailor son on Saturday, and he's doing well. Will see him soon! Chatted with my girlfriend that lives in Connecticut yesterday afternoon before my sweet fest. Yesterday evening chatted with my middle son. They had gone to the Oregon coast to see the kite festival. He said it was chilly but nice. They ate lunch at a brewery in Astoria, (our old stomping ground). I miss the Oregon coast.
Well today I am holding out for Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner. We will probably eat at 5 pm which will put me at 20 hours fasted. I think I will eat a small salad as its baking, so I am not so hungry eating it.

John and I are very careful not to annoy each other with our noise. I would kill anyone who encroached on my private aural space. I almost mean that. They would be out of the door! I consider it assault and abuse.
We always ask each other about tv programmes, and go into separate rooms for individual preferences. John watches his sport on the laptop with the sound turned off. No.one plays music or sound in front of the other. That's what headphones are for. I really mean it would cause me to be murderous.
Sooo important to be considerate of the other's space. Shape up, or ship out is my motto.

Machka - So pleased your anniversary was good. You deserve some coloring time, for sure!
Rita - I talk to myself in terms I would never allow another human being to speak to me, and your information is a good wake up call. I won't kid you - moving all the way over to posititive self-talk, and in particular affirmations, is not likely where I'll end up. That said, just getting away from the "beating myself up" portion of the day would be healthier.
Kylia - Well done you! I never win at things like that. Glad your DH became easier to work with, in the end.

Regarding noise - Corey's not sensitive to it, or says he's not, and I am. I cannot concentrate to read anything of any length when there is noise of any kind like a television or radio. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. I've definitely moved away from reading anything more than short items for the time being, but I watch a lot of videos, usually while I'm doing something like this or crocheting.
While I'm watching these videos, he reads between five and ten books in the evenings and weekends, and will occasionally pay attention to what I'm watching if it's something that interests him. When I'm here by myself, I seldom have anything on while I'm getting things done, unless I'm working on a tedious piece of crafting.
All that said, I know it doesn't bother him, but I still ask, "You OK if I watch something?" rather than just flipping the TV on. Being polite is something I insisted on at the beginning of our marriage, and he quickly understood how much it meant to me. It's now part of our relationship. I always thank him for cooking, for doing the dishes, for the work he does outside. He does the same for me for the work I contribute.
To me, when you don't believe your partner sees and acknowledges what you do, it becomes harder and harder to want to do any of it. Politeness and gratitude for things goes a long, long way to providing the lubrication every relationship needs to rub along well.
Sorry - Back off my high horse. Or my soapbox. Yeah, horses are too high for me to climb up on these days. 🤣

Well im back i binged on some lemon blueberry biscotti so im done for the day eating wise..

Well, car show was good. Didn't visit Jungle Jim's though. I was starving and had a headache. Was going to atop at the new Ford's Garage restaurant on way home but.....it is in one of those funky mall areas where you might find a place in the street or you have to park in a parking garage and walk. Those malls make no sense to me in Ohio. Anyway, we managed to get out of that mess and headed towards home. We stopped at Lovely's which is a family owned farm stand restaurant. Had homemade fried chicken and an Italian veggies salad. Brought home 1/2 # each if that and the veggie Cole slaw. We were suppose to go to Dairy shed with friends but they have backed out due to heat. No worries from me, but had I known I would have gotten a slice of homemade pie.;) So laundry going and may go to grocery shortly. Will need water for cpaps. May wait til Tuesday while DH is getting massage. Really don't need much since leaving Sunday.....
Lanette- I don't mind pork, but my body really doesn't like it. I would be fighting Lisa for the bathroom and reaching for migraine meds. I can't eat Turkey because of migraines. I do limit beef only because I don't always feel good after eating it. So I eat a lot of chicken! Both before and after hatched-lol! I do eat seafood and some fish but don't cook them.
Apparently it has been a "sweets" weekend for a lot of us! I was just happy to have real food in my belly.

Lisa I totally agree with acknowledgement for things done. It goes a long way. I will say that most days my DH is good at that away from work. At work he really is a red flag manager. He does thank me for dinner and tells me I look nice when we go out. I thank him for putting our dinner plates in dishwasher. He has a sweet side that shows a lot of the time but when he is not......he is AWFUL!
Time to change out laundry.

DH's sweet side...he saves the heart messages I leave for him if I am not home. These are on his bathroom mirror. A couple are 4 years old!
