Wow! Be away for a few days and look what’s happened!
Went to Denise’s. It was very informative, that’s for sure. I saw a medical form from Pete. Now I knew that he was bi-polar and had ADHD. What I didn’t know is that he’s being treated for anxiety, depression, insomnia, and something that I think is called medical voices. What this means, I’m not totally sure. He was getting treatment in 2016 for an opiod addiction. You know, we always suspected he was the person who abused Lexi. Well, this trip he confirmed this. Who knows when the addiction started? He also said that there was something (not sure what) with his esphogus. He’s supposed to go on the 4th where they’re going to insert a balloon. In the past (now remember that he’s 37) he’s had (that I know of) kidney stones (a few times), hernia, some other things I can’t remember now.
Denise made “dinner”. I remember when I went there when PJ was born. Pete was very OCD about cleanliness. Well, now you should see their place! When Denise made “dinner”, she made one small bag of tortellini. There is no way one bag would have served 4 adults and a child! Heck, one bag that size feeds Vince for 2 meals. I couldn’t get over how much crap there was. There was no place at the table to sit and eat, the table was piled with all sorts of stuff. PJ sat to eat his dinner in a child chair and used a folding stepstool as his “table”. Denise served PJ first (makes sense), then her, then Pete, THEN she was planning to serve us. Really? Well, it doesn’t appear that they have guests very much. When you have guests, you make sure your guests eat first then you take yours. Well, we just left and told her that we knew she had to get PJ to bed. We didn’t tell her we were going out to eat, but we did. Really, Pete should concentrate on helping his wife, it seemed that couldn’t wait to bring PJ to our hotel to go swimming. We went back to PJ’s home and Pete was there, he was “just leaving to go help my mother and father”. He needs to help his wife first. The place could use a little cleaning. There was just a small path in the garage to get into the house. There was all sorts of junk that he got from his grandmother’s. It’s probably sentimental to him, but…..
I feel bad for Denise on one hand. It seemed that she was doing basically everything. It certainly seemed that Pete couldn’t wait until she was home from work to take care of PJ. But on the other hand, I don’t feel sorry for her. She and Pete were living together in 2016 so she knew about his addiction. Yet she married him in 2017.
Did some HIIT at the hotel. I didn’t realize that when they remodeled the hotel, they got a Pelaton bike. In looking at it fast, I thought it was an upright bike. Had I known I could have done a spinning workout. Well, next time…
Went to the MD office where I got the orthotic. I was quite emphatic about the fact that it wasn’t getting any better and I was getting frustrated that it’s been 6 months, $400 later, and still no improvement. I got the feeling that they wanted me to return but I couldn’t see why. Finally, they modified the orthotic and wanted me to return in 1 week but in the meantime to call this podiatrist. Unfortunately, I think his office is closed until tomorrow probably for vacation. Hope I can get in soon, because this is getting to be a PITA.
The kittens are GROWING. We let them out of the bedrooms in the house during the day but at night they’re in the bedrooms. We leave on Tues to go to Jess’ for their “snipping”. I think Colby is wanting to get kittens, but I’m not sure Jess wants them just yet. I’m sure she’ll get some. Colby likes Gannon, but I really think he wants kittens.
Pete said “I don’t know why she (Denise) got the dog (Giacho or however it’s spelled). I wish she’d gotten a cat”. I suspect that she might have gotten it out of a sense of obligation, evidently someone in Pete’s family had puppies and she took one. I just told him that maybe with him gone so much, she feels safer with a large dog. Really, I feel sorry for that dog. Rex is 15 years old, you can see that he’s hurting. He walks slower and slower, sleeps a lot. Giacho is a very big puppy. He was jumping on me when we got there (hey, he’s a puppy), but he’s so big he scratched my leg and arm, where my arm was bleeding. The regular day is Denise gets up, puts him out on the lead in the backyard so he can go to the bathroom, then puts him in a crate until she gets home from work (3-4). Let’s him out, then back in the crate. He’s a puppy! What he needs is for her to find a dog park and just let him run at least a few times a week. Thank goodness I’m in NC, that’s all I can say.
On the way home from Denise’s we stopped at a Wendy’s. Of all the fast food places, that is the only one I’ll eat at. They are the only ones who have decent salads.
Making rice Krispie bars to take to Jess’ since that’s one of the few things I can make on the stovetop. Speaking of which, they FINALLY called that the relay is in. They could come Mon or Wed We won’t be home Wed. but Mon later in the day can work (bowling earlier). Or else Fri. So we shall see how soon it gets done
Tracey – so glad you had such a great first day! That means so much
Heather – so many times I look in the mirror and say “who is that old woman”. Takes me a second to realize that it’s ME. I certainly don’t feel it. My mind is 30 but sometimes the body reminds me that it’s no longer 30
You know, last time we were to see PJ, Vince mentioned that he thought PJ was exhibiting Bi-Polar tendencies. I just shrugged it off as “he’s only 4, he’s an excited boy”. Well, this time I honestly think I saw Bi-Polar tendencies. At one point he was quitely putting all his trucks in a line, the next (almost like someone flipped a light switch) he grabbed 2 toys, was banging them (hard) together, and threw them across the room. Pete suggested we buy him a laptop. The way he treats his toys???? I think not.
Barbara – I’m 69 and it says that I will live to 96. If so, hope they’re active years! Yes, quickly, in my sleep, no pain
Annie – you are amazing! I’m so impressed how you do it all. As long as Teddy is happy, that’s what’s important
Kylia – yippeee for finding that locket!
At one point Pete said “PJ, grandma and grandpa didn’t drive all this way just to watch you play videogames”. So what does he do? Pete plays Grand Theft Auto (with PJ watching) while we sit there! And how is PJ supposed to know how long away we live? He’s never been to our house!
My grandfather’s meat was, literally, white with all the salt on it. He drank (not excessively), smoked, and lived well into his 90’s. But he was active so I agree, a lot has to do with activity level
Kim – HUGS and more HUGS
One of the kitties jumped up on our headboard and then scared himself by turning on my CPAP….lol
Lanette – so so glad you found that necklace!
Beth – how wonderful for your mom! Chia jam sounds so interesting
M – happy anniversary
I feel so funny when I wear “dressy” pants to church (when I lector). You see so many people even up on the altar, wearing jeans. I just can’t bring myself “holdover from my childhood) to wear jeans to church unless I absolutely have to. My jeans are all the bootcut ones. I just don’t like the looks of the distressed ones. To me, it looks like you can’t afford something decent, although I know that people pay good money to buy torn jeans
Margaret – I never did like the nonstick cookware, threw all of mine out. MIL liked it but I threw every piece at the condo out. Don’t care for them, not healthy
Lynn – welcome!
Kylia – that trophy looks so good
Well, think I caught up. Hope everyone has a great day

So I slit it open, got it straightened out and taped the envelope shut again. So you don't have an exclusive on gooberness.
Rita - I loved the self-talk examples. Lots to think about. I know I don't realize the impact negative ones have on my outlook about eating and life in general. So it's good to be reminded!
Kylia - glad your DH was in a better mood last night. WOW the stars were lining for you to win! Had you known, it might have been a good day to buy a lottery ticket or two. Have you ever been fond of pork? When I was a kid, hogs were the main livestock "crop" for my dad, we had a freezer full. Today, pork just doesn't taste the same. Maybe what they are feeding them? If I put a pork roast in the crockpot with a jar of salsa, that's OK. Bacon and ham are OK too.
Reminder to get your Weekly Check-In info to me by tomorrow noon if participating. TIA!
Make it a wonderful day!

I grew up eating just our home grown meat and veggies. The meat really does taste different from what I grew up on. Steak really don't taste as good and it is also a lot tougher too.3 -

Enjoying David Attenborough's "Hummingbirds: Jeweled Messengers" at the end of a lovely day while Corey's in the bath. He made a terrific dinner, one of the best beef enchiladas I've ever eaten - he makes his own red sauce, and it was just wonderful. I ate one-eighth, he ate one half. About our usual ratio... 🤣
Other than that he had a relaxed day. Just far too hot outside to do any real work out there. He did help me change out and clean up all the bird feeders, though, bless him.
He also helped me move the massive china cabinet I use in my craft room for storage (after the obligatory "move it AGAIN?" 😝) Was able to get the large, old, rough indoor-outdoor rug out of there, as well, that covered half the room. A long runner is sufficient to protect the worst of the old damage, and makes it so much easier to keep the floor clean. Someday, I'll be able to redo these floors. Wayyyy down the priority list, and a runner is fine.
Then, of course, I had to rearrange everything else. Just fine-tuning my flow, you know... 😹
Now, talking to you for a minute, and back to my crochet.
Later, my babies,
Here's to another week upon us,

To me, when you don't believe your partner sees and acknowledges what you do, it becomes harder and harder to want to do any of it. Politeness and gratitude for things goes a long, long way to providing the lubrication every relationship needs to rub along well.

that is what is really missing here- and you are right, it is very hard to keep doing for someone who doesn't bother to acknowledge what I do or worse, goes behind me and does it again(litter boxes, vacuuming, the only chores he ever does)because I don't do them good enough for him.
I did get one " I appreciate it" after spending the day in SF with him and his mom at the Japanese consulate.
Even common courtesy is missing- this morning he went out front to feed the stray cats then left to go to his mom's- never even said he was leaving. I looked up at the camera and saw him pull out
I have mentioned this to him in the past when he has done this and he just shrugs it off.

Annie - I hope you were successful in getting your bike moved upstairs.
I just over the last year worked on getting rid of some throw blankets and had to buy two when we went to the races in July and then last week my neighbour showed up with a crocheted by her throw too. I guess I’ll have to decide again what to keep.
Kylia - I had to look up Terry Redlin, I love his work! Beautiful.
Congratulations on the win at the car show.
My husband turns the tv on the second he walks in the door too. It’s like they don’t want to be alone with their own thoughts. I used to be that way, but more often than not now I like the quiet or music.
In fairness, he will go to the bedroom to watch tv if I’m enjoying the quiet but the downside of that is that we have no time together.
Machka - I hadn’t thought of those being caused by stress. I still think I should bring it up to my doctor the next time I see him.
Rita - I enjoyed reading the self talk lesson. Thank you for sharing
Margaret - I don’t know if I know how to cook with stainless steel or cast iron. I have the Heritage Rock collection.
Allie - those pictures of Miles were adorable.
Debbie - You described the church I grew up in.
Rebecca - I hope your son contacts you soon. That picture of Athena is so nice.
Michele - it sounds to me like maybe Denise is struggling with trying to keep up. Maybe she is depressed it has to be hard on her. I would be happy to have some time with someone that loves PJ taking him for a bit so I had a break too.
I didn’t do a whole lot today, went to do some scrapbooking but ended up organizing things a little differently, again, things I was using just weren’t at hands reach for me.
I watched a movie yesterday on Disney Plus. It was called “The Supremes at Earl’s All You Can Eat”. It was a good movie about three best friends doing life. One of them had a line “they teach you how to live but not how to die” that for some reason struck a chord with me.
It was a good movie if anyone is interested. It’s not about the musical group The Supremes but it starts in that era.
Well I should go to bed, hopefully this week I get a lot more hands on.

Further to this list from Machka
I thought since August is almost over I would do it for the month.
• 3 wins in August:
- continued to follow my ‘new’ solid habits
- self care by having eyes tested, going to the dentist, cutting back on between meal snacks,
- clearing out some of our unwanted items.
• 3 areas for improvement:
- finishing my crochet project
- doing ad min before my groups start up again in September
- more decluttering
•1 thing I am grateful for today
- my warm, dry, comfortable home on a wet Monday morning.
• 1 Intention for today
- work on those three areas of improvement
•1 thing I am excited about ...
- seeing what my finished gilet looks like on me, and adapting it, if necessary
• 3 Things I would like to have happen if the day were to play out the way I would like it
- the gilet will look good
- the weather will brighten up and I can get outside without a coat
- I have finished my admin.

If it were me, I'd stop doing all that.

That was the first thing we did with our new house ... we had a great company take up the older dark carpet and put down engineered hardwood.
We don't have a rug on top and that has proved interesting. It's incredible the amount of dust etc. that collects on the floor! I shudder to think what was in our carpet in our previous house and what would have been in our carpet had we left it down.
We bought a battery powered hand held vacuum to suck up things every few days.
I think we both breathe better without the carpet.

Lanette- I don't mind pork, but my body really doesn't like it. I would be fighting Lisa for the bathroom and reaching for migraine meds. I can't eat Turkey because of migraines. I do limit beef only because I don't always feel good after eating it. So I eat a lot of chicken! Both before and after hatched-lol! I do eat seafood and some fish but don't cook them.

I have a similar reaction to meat.
I've never liked pork and am not overly fond of beef. They give me heartburn and an upset stomach.
I'm not convinced that most meat is good for us, and especially not for my kidneys.
And processed meat, including ham, is particularly bad for us. That said, I do like pepperoni on my pizza once a week.

I also eat poultry and a bit of fish.

On noise ...
At work, I vary between listening to music via headphones and tolerating the background noise in the office. Music is nice ... talk, not so much.
Same in restaurants ... music nice, talk, not so much.
Talk reminds me that there are people.
At home, I'm the one who turns on the TV and we watch a few shows in the evening. Then I usually switch to music. On weekends, we listen to music during the day and turn on the TV in the evening for a while. The TV is rarely on for more than 5 hours a day.
I usually pick the shows and music, but I have a pretty good idea what my husband likes.
Music is good for me because it helps hide my tinnitus.
Often I listen to my Relief app or music with nature noises ... Whales of the Pacific, Tropical Rhythms (A Wonderful Blend of Music and the Sounds of Nature), Natural Dreams, etc.
But not loud. Even though my hearing is going, I still don't like TV or music too loud.
On clothing ...
I like dresses, skirts and capris pants mostly ... for work, church and most places.
I have 2 pair of jeans, but I don't wear them very often. Pants in general and especially jeans are just not that comfortable.

Rita: I love the lesson on combating the monkey voices in our heads.
I’m a ‘glass half full’ kinda gal. Always looking on the bright side of life. I don’t tend to have many negative thoughts, mostly because of the influence of my maternal grandmother and her sunny disposition, and her homespun wisdom. I have had lots of negativity directed at me in my life, so I had to learn early to not let it destroy my peace of mind. I do acknowledge negativity when it appears, but have learned to allow it a limited time in my life. Negative self talk gets very short shrift in my mind, along with regret, guilt and other soul-destroying emotions.

Machka asked Michelle: What was the best part of visiting your daughter?
Michelle: I have the same question. It seems like the few times y'all have visited, nothing is to your satisfaction. Have you thought of bringing a restaurant meal to enjoy with the family? That way Denise would not have to cook. And, if the house is that messy, could you possibly help get it straightened up. It looks like Denise does not have the necessary skills to accomplish these things.
I know that you are so good about helping folks in your community and making meals etc. for those you encounter so please don't take what I mentioned in the wrong way.
My son and daughter-in-law and their two children have a messy house and never invite us up mainly because they are so busy with sports and work. I have finally gotten to the point when they stop by to visit, I just make sure the toilet and sink in the bathroom is clean. Other than that, I quit worrying about it. This is totally against my old nature but is probably an improvement all around.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Thank you all for being in my pocket as I worried about Teddy. I am so happy his heart is stable.
Rita I make overnight oats every day for lunch. It suits me to eat first, then assemble it for the next day. The oats need to be "old fashioned" otherwise they are cut too small and turn to mush.
1/2 cup oats
1 cup almond milk ( makes soft oatmeal)
1 scoop protein powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Stir then add
1/2 cup blueberries
I wash them but am careful not to add water.
My protein powder is sweet so it doesn't need honey but yours may differ.
Kylia glad the banquet turned out well! Yay!
Lisa I write out checks for Dad to sign, and find it tricky to stop from signing them myself.
Lynn welcome! We are a friendly bunch, jump right in! The only limit is that we don't discuss religion or politics because that tends to be controversial. And we respect each other's diet methods. So let us know what you are doing and how it works for you!
Machka glad you are coloring again. Yay!
Allie yes we love the pics of Miles!
Michele boy that oven has taken forever! Sounds like PJ could use some extra loving kindness, but that's true of us all.
Dad doesn't hear, and he makes noise wherever he goes. I keep the TV off. I just heard him shut his door and come downstairs. It's useful to know where he is.
He is very thankful, which helps balance some of the awkward things he says. His view of women reflects his age.
So I have gotten my to do list down to the less urgent items. I have no excuse to skip that bike. I will do it today!
Have a lovely day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Agreed.
Some people are just fairly comfortable living in a mess. I might prefer something neater, but to each their own. It's also why I will usually stay in a hotel. But, as you say, Michelle could ask if Denise would like some help with the dishes, laundry or something.
Some people (like me) don't cook. If you come here, you'll get something but it probably won't be brilliant. In fact, I'm much more likely to suggest we go to a restaurant or order a pizza. Carol, I think you've got a great suggestion that Michelle should order dinner in for the family.
I think most people don't have guests and don't do dinner anymore. It's not a thing these days. Whatever skills were involved in dinner parties disappeared back in the early 1990s.
Michelle, don't you go there to enjoy your grandson? Just enjoy him for who he is. Don't diagnose him ... play with him, find out what he likes, make good memories with him.

Woot! Good Monday morning, my chickens...
Hope it was a grand weekend, and that the week is lovely for everyone.
Here's a question for you - why is it so much harder to spend money on ourselves than it is to spend it on someone else? Going down the hill in a little bit to get glasses ordered, and had to convince myself at length to do it. All the needlework of late is really showing how scratched up and beat up my glasses are, and need replacing.
Anyway, other than the usual Monday chores...
My Monday morning weigh-in - At 157.5 this morning... When I began the five-day stint with the booster diuretic to get my edema settled down, on August 9, I was at 167.8. There was one really rough day in there, but I dropped ten pounds of water off by last Monday, and I'm slightly lighter than that as of this morning.
I am feeling incredibly smug (sorry... but still) because I've managed to track my food for two straight weeks now! Every day -- every drop, every crumb, since August 13. It's really helping me see where my calories were coming from. I'm very gently trying to stay around 1450 calories a day or less - slowly ooch back down to around 145 if my body will cooperate, but mostly, just pay attention to what's going in my mouth, rather than eating mindlessly. It was oddly easy to drop back into... not sure what to think about that!
Now to also very gently add a little exercise in - I was on the elliptical ten minutes each day this weekend. Doesn't sound like much, but it's a whole lot better than nothing.
Now that the healthy portion of this program is over, and Corey just called to say "good morning," I'm going to swan off and get a few things done and take a shower so I don't offend the person who gets my glasses ordered... 👀😝🤣

Machka - If I ever knew anyone who deserved to spend money on herself, it's you... It was on my mind because I ordered yarn to make afghans for my nephew and his wife with only a little bit of thought ahead of time, but agonized over getting glasses. I think I still feel like I'm "spending Corey's money," rather than my own - which is not true, we are genuinely united on the financial front, and indeed, he convinced me to go and get the new glasses ordered. Strange dynamic in play there... but nonetheless, I'm going to go get them.
Michele - Not to pile on, but I'd love to see you taking a little of Machka's advice, and finding the joy that's there to find in your time with your grandson. You may not think your disapproval and disdain for Pete, for PJ's behavior, for the environment, and for the accommodations they make for you comes through loud and clear, but I can tell you from experience that you're wrong. Denise knows how you feel - she grew up with you. She knows, and PJ knows that neither one of you is comfortable with the other without knowing why.
Probably shouldn't say it - just really hate to see you lose something that you can keep by reining in the judgment and ramping up the love.

I buy the thin pork chops and toss them in a sweet band spicy mixture and bake them. Lee loves them but I am like "meh". I do love roasted chivken, and a lot of seafood!

I thought I would weigh in on the discussion of kids, their homes and how we do things. I think my saving grace during my 2 week stay with my middle sons family was to "concentrate on the good". I was " fetched" by son and granddaughter to be the babysitter until they found one. I kept the kids fed, safe and healthy, and poured as much love on them as they let me. I didn't cook one nightly meal, them feeding me was my reward. I didn't clean their home, but kept my things organized. They didn't need me for my cleaning skills, plus as I told husband on the phone, "I need to conserve my energy"! To attempt to clean their garsge, well I wouldn't have been able to play with and chase around the 11 month old grandson. Pick and choose what we want to take away from each and every visit we have with family. The ball is in our court and we can decide.💖👍🏼
