@Michieb125 Thanks! Yahoo for 2 days AF. You'll feel really good on day 3.5

Another big social gathering last night and still stuck with AF beverages. 2 for 2 this week10
-
Went to cabin with husband, his sister and her bf for weekend. The men drank and I didn't. SIL says she's not drinking this month so that made it easier. I cannot moderate and I am not going to try that anymore. It was so nice to wake up fresh without shame or worry about how I disgraced myself the night before, which would probably happen if I had my usual bottle + of wine. 2 weeks AF tomorrow. Onward.9

I read on another forum:
"Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards."
I guess this is why with age, comes wisdom.

I hope all those living in the path of the hurricane stay safe!
I had a planned alcohol day yesterday and finished the two glasses of wine left in the bottle from Friday. Have a plan to be alcohol free until at least Friday this week.

You are all doing great.
I don't count the AF days anymore because every day is AF free now for me. lol
cheers!11 -
Good morning, LA friends!
I did a little shopping yesterday to pick up a few things for hurricane prep and regular groceries. I wasn't even tempted by the wine aisle. That was a weird feeling. Every time I think about drinking, my first thought is how I feel while I'm drinking (because I get drunk) and how I feel the day after, and it helps me get the thought out of my mind for a bit.
I am officially at my lowest weight since July when I was doing well with less alcohol...within a week of abstaining. That's some motivation for me!
AF = 6 (Actually 7 in a row which is my longest streak in YEARS!!)
A = 09 -
Bravo to all of you! I am cheering you on from my desk!! And if you messed up, it's normal and part of the journey towards greater self control. I messed up too many times to count. Rapid recovery is key.
6 AF Oct days done. Today I am watching the sugar intake. Getting sugar high and lows makes me want to eat and drink so aiming for zero sugar today and limit fruit to 1. And drink lots of water with lemon.6 -
For those of you that need some visuals. I was this woman for many many years prior to wanting to get control. It was not overnight. But after serious self-discussions with myself I knew it was not a cycle to continue. For me it was the thought of never having another drink whlie being mindful and disciplined in my goals. This is why I have chosen LESS. Hope this helps in some small way.

Happy Monday!
A big kudos to all of you who are staying true to your intentions, not easy.
I had 5/7 AF days this past week Monday 9/30 - Sunday 10/6. Which I have not done in over a year, feels good. I also started walking for exercise again yesterday and logged 4.5 miles for the day. I am motivated to walk 3.5 - 4 miles at least 5 times a week.
My exercise regimen all but disappeared in August and September due to excessive heat. I love getting outside whenever possible.
Already decided on another AF night and logging early!

You are doing GREAT @chicbuc! Isn’t it nice to know this LA path offers not a straight line, but so many detours, exits, and u-turns? Stay safe!4
-
@xbowhunter thanks for your update! Your conviction to quit is admirable and it is great you “know” deep inside that it’s going to be another AF day! So Good! Keep it up!5
-
@MissMay thank you so much for that visual. Now to figure out where in the cycle to insert the break to stop it from continuing
@SurferGirl1982 sorry to hear you're struggling so. I have just quit before, but I think you and I drink a different amount of alcohol when we drink; we're all different and our bodies will react differently to what we do. Maybe you can revisit your August streak and see what worked for you then.
@Michieb125 nice job getting an exercise routine back into place and, of course, on the AF days too.
@chickbuc stay safe!!

Thank you @SurferGirl1982 - your own desires to have less are worthy, so I encourage you to keep on trying! I don’t have any advice but hear your frustration …..even if you call it a day right now it could be a LA win for you. Any amount Less is Less!
It’s not an AF thread rather LA which means you didn’t fail by having a drink already.
Hang in there!

PS it’s always helpful for me to go back and read my own posts when I was having more successful days and weeks and apply some of those ideas now. Thanks @SparkSpringtime69 for that reminder!3

@MissMay Thank you so much. My girls are coming with their kids to hunker down at my house, so I'm not leaving. That is a very sweet offer, though!
@SurferGirl1982 Never stop trying. You can't succeed if you quit! Sending you good vibes!
@Michieb125 Aren't "haven't done that in years" successes so cool? Really makes you feel like your accomplishing something!
@globalhiker Keep posting your successes! You're motivating all of us!6 -

@SurferGirl1982 - sorry you're struggling. I always find the second day to be the hardest personally. Sometimes I can get the first day just because of how *kitten* I feel- but the second day is where I feel like I need to really knuckle down and power through the cravings. I've quit cold turkey twice with no ill effects, but I think it really depends on the person and how much alcohol you're consuming.
@MissMay you have the best visuals!

I don’t know if I’m not drinking just because I don’t have any to drink or I really don’t want it. Last night, I even went to the grocery store that carries my wine and didn’t even go near the aisle. Then, I was watching TV with hubby last night, and I thought about making an Old Fashioned. But, I decided that was too much work, and I just refilled my water bottle. I’ve been having a lot of bad cramps in my legs and feet lately, and I just don’t know what’s causing them. So, I’m trying to avoid things that will dehydrate me, but I’m not sure if that’s why I’m not drinking either. 🤷🏻♀️
Anyway, everyone in Milton’s path, I’m praying for you! Proud of you, @chicbuc, for not stocking up prior to the storm! I feel like that would be a HUGE win for me, so I think it’s awesome you’re refraining.
@SurferGirl1982, I know you can do this! You did it before. You CAN and WILL do it again. What are you afraid of? Feeling like *kitten* for a day? Oh, well! It’s only 1 day, take some Tylenol, drink a bunch of water or pedialyte (helps with dehydration), and stay in bed. It’ll pass! On day 2, you’ll be on fire and ready to conquer the world again. Take the first step, Friend! As you learned in August, after that first step, it gets easier. We are here for you and care about you. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here, reading your posts, wanting this for you, and cheering you on. In the words of Rob Schneider, “You can do it!”6 -

I am praying for everyone being affected by this terrible hurricane. My aunt is in St. Pete in a nursing home that they are not evacuating. Supposedly it's made out of concrete and safe but who knows how secure anything is until one is faced with the reality of Mother Nature.6
-
Thanks for the encouragement, @NonnieDoiron Have you made sure you're getting enough potassium and magnesium? Maybe try some supplements. Thinking of you!

Oct - 7 AF days done. AF total is 37 days. My biggest fear today is going back to Day 1 and starting over. Memories of the past few years came back to me about the times I did decide to stop my wine diet as I called it and regress in a matter of weeks right back to Square One. It happened always when I went on vacation or when I had a job layoff or travel to visit distant relatives. This is like YO-YO dieting - improve for a months, regress for double the time, then improve a few months, regress double the time, and the cycle keeps going.
@SurferGirl1982 if I had a good bottle of wine in my fridge I would've opened it up and drank the whole thing yesterday. I can't have it in the house at all, it's just an addictive poison for me.
Looking back, I wasted years of time, thinking, over-thinking, obsessing, trying, failing, over and over. If I could re-play my life, I would've absolutely 1000% signed up for online therapy and physican prescribed medication because regular excessive drinking is the sign of a dangerous physical disease and just in recent years is being treated as such just like we go to the doctor for any other physical ailment.

Amazing job everyone!

You have the power to write your own story starting today!9 -
I wish you could see the BIG SMILE on my face reading your posts. Especially your post @NonnieDoiron with your touching positive post to @SurferGirl1982. It sounds like some I have written in the past 7 years here.
Some of us oldie but goodies on here have seen and heard all the stories as to why they should or can't drink LESS. A reminder, you are winning by just checking in and telling your story. It all begins somewhere, this is the place.
My October accountability so far is:
6 - AF
2 - A (already counting today)
Our weather channel here in Florida says as long as hurricane Milton continues his current path, then our area will be out of harm's way. I never call it good though until it has all passed. Our town is filling up quick with evacuees. On my 1 hour beach walk this morning there was a different feel to the tourist scene. And I am still in disbelief what happened to Tenn, N.C. S.C GA during Helene. Which did not have 180 MPH winds driving water towards Florida land like this one is.4 -
@SurferGirl1982 I know all of us are rooting for you today! Good to hear there is no alcohol in the house - you know I do way better when I just DONT buy it or have it in the house (particularly if I’m trying to abstain). It can be a big temptation when we know it’s within arms reach. We’re here for you, and yes you can!!!4

Had another AF night and woke up early for a gym class! Heading out for another walk now with my sweet pup. I am feeling much more peaceful and happy with my healthier decisions that’s for sure.
I’m going to babysit my grandkids tonight over at their house and looking forward to seeing their school work and hanging with them. They are little beaming lights in my life!!
