Today I was a bit stiff and sore from the time in the garden yesterday. So I spent 2 hours in the garden today. Nothing like doing more of what made you stiff and sore to force it on its way. I'll probably be stiff and sore tomorrow too, but I'll do stairs and go for a walk to ease it off.
All along one fence there were small white decorative pebbles covering the ground. For whatever reason, my husband doesn't like them. I'm indifferent, but as I want to plant several things in the first third of that part of the garden, I decided to remove them. Not an easy process! There were a whole lot of these small white decorative pebbles, relatively deep. But nevertheless, I raked and swept them into a large pile further up the fence and dug and cleared the area where I want to plant.
You can see them almost looking like snow against the fence in this "before" photo. I cleared all the way up to the edge of the photo ... maybe about 6 metres.
Then I started to lay rock where I want to stream to go on the other side.
It was a gorgeous day outside!!
And more unpacking etc. was done.

Tree in front of my yard in two different light settings. It is at its peak. Enjoying it.
Lanette Thank you for the compliment. I think it was because I was enjoying myself so well on the trip with my son.

Our Art session went really well this morning. I showed DSIL , who had never done any painting in her life, how to tape off squares and how to put something inside them. To avoid making a big mess we just used the watercolour brush pens. She really enjoyed it!
John produced a great picture of a wood, and I did some taping and made two quick cards. She is going to get some pens and tape to use with the grandchildren.
Easy lunch of toast, mashed avocado, fried egg, and streaky bacon. Lisa reminded me I could cook that in the oven.
We had a small platter of cheeses to follow.
Now she's gone and I'm going to have a nap.
I've cooked the cauliflower for tonight. Will smash it, mix with crême fraiche and parmesan, and cook black pudding. Fry an apple in butter.
All good.

@Lannette Surprisingly, our campground has been full the last 2 weeks! Campers in state parks can only stay 2 weeks at a time, nothing longer than that other than us hosts. It is interesting to see the different types of campers people have. We have people living in tents and cars traveling the country to 40 foot class A campers and fifth-wheels people living in with everything in between! We’ve even had a couple of homemade mini-home going through to Arizona and homemade small campers, some really cool, some, questionable ones. We’ve also had some busses that have been converted, again, some really nice, some-not-so.
We’ve had 4 inches of rain overnight, and for the desert, that is flash food rain. The campground is luckily in a good area and we just get wet spots but town had major flooding. A camper just knocked on my door as I was typing this to check in as they couldn’t check in last night due to the flooding.
Dinner yesterday was Romain with oil and vinegar, fish (I think grouper) and pan-fried potatoes Kevin style.

Heather - Cooking bacon in the oven is about the only way we do it anymore. So much easier, and so much less mess!
My back's been just awful for more than a few days, and with a little help from Corey, rearranged my sewing room once more to put the machines up to standing height. They were all at different heights, and this will bring them up to the point where I can walk over and sew without dragging my chair over, etc. When it sits on a desk-level table, you can't stand up and sew without twisting your back to see what you're sewing. When I'm not quilting large items, there's very little time actually spent using a machine.
Not sure what tweaked the back, but this is day three, and I needed to do something that made sense for how I'm using my body. Every joint is twinging as well - mornings are just rough for them, and a lot of that is the temperature change. Cold just hurts them. It will pass, as fall and winter always does... but may not exactly be terribly comfortable.
Had to lay off the yoga, both because it was hurting my back, and because it was triggering my vertigo as well. Lordie, I appear to be falling apart!
Allie - Glad you had a good first night!
The house is smelling good - Corey's making brunch, always a joyful thing.
Hope it is/was a good Sunday,
Love y'all,

Annie - sorry to hear about your dad's sadness. I think in some cases it's harder on the husband than the wife when a spouse passes. Hope today will be better for him.
Rita - I forgot that the snowbirds will soon be heading south and needed places to stay. I bet it is fun to see the different styles of campers folks live in. Hope your back and knee are doing better today.
About the Farmer's Walk/Carry- from time to time I mention the Farmer's Walk or Carry. For those of you who are new or don't know about this, it's basically carrying heavy weights for a set distance or time. Big benefits for overall toning and grip strength.
I ran across a pretty good article about it. The regular gym goers half our age work on carrying half of their body weight. So if they weigh 160, their goal is to carry 40# in each hand.
The article stated we older gals generally start out much, much lighter if we haven't been pumping iron. I carried 20 lbs per hand yesterday just to see how it felt - plastic containers of kitty litter (easy to grip, nice handles!) and my shoulders complained immediately, so I'm back to 10# per hand for a while. I use 10# dumbbells. I can switch over to putting water in the empty kitty litter containers and increase the weight a pound at a time. A container full of water, like kitty litter, weighs around 20 lbs.

Lanette-I've been told with the Farmer's carry to not necessarily worry about a weight-just carry something. I have been limited in my carrying weight due to surgeries. Many times when walking around house I use 5 lb dumbbell in each hand for a number of laps and finish when carrying equal weights.
Quiet Sunday. Working slowly on house stuff-packing away summer clothes, made a pot of soup for dinners this week. Took a nice walk. Getting ready for Monday. Going into budget season so much to get done but I am trying to limit how much I do on weekends so I get rested.
Take care all,

So sorry to have missed so much! Life suddenly got very busy! My son and DIL have been coming and going from my house. We were all quite sick for a week. We went to North of Boston for the wedding and had a day in Salem.
My A1C is up and I have been told I am pre-diabetic. I have found a group of 3 ladies to walk with. 2x a week. They are a tad fast for me, but I am doing it.
And I got a puppy dog...A poodle 10 months old..not potty trained..not neutered..still needs some shots.
My son and DIL move into their house next week end!
I did a little bit of reading and can see that Delia was born! She looks lovely! And Miles looks so happy!
I am sorry I could not catch up with all the reading! I hope nothing sad has happened.
Mo: Happy Birthday!
Tracey: I love Jonah's gift! And your friend really did the eyes well!
Eagles: Welcome!
Lanette: That is irksome if Facebook is signing you up for groups! They have recommended some that I have joined!
Allie: I love your hair! Have a good time on the cruise!
Rita: I hope your back and your knee are doing better!
MargaretTurk: How nice to walk with an old neighbor of your parents!
Penny: Welcome!
Michele: Sorry pool season is over!
Rori: It will be fun meeting up with your friend!
Heather: I like Mid Somers Murders...such a long running show! My only appointment tv show is Ridley.
It comes on at 8pm this evening (Sunday). He gets more handsome to me every week! Ridley is my dose of a man for the week!
Annie: I got my license renewed last week and it was a breeze! I have 6 bags to declutter in one room and about 8 in another. But I am getting there! I wish you could make a few changes around the house without upsetting your Dad. The little change might even be good for your Dad. When my DH passed I got 2 yellow rugs from Wayfair...Yellow was his favorite color so I know he would approve...They aren't the greatest quality rugs I am sure. But they clean okay. And I love them!
Rebecca: I laughed at the "waiting to hear from sons mode". I have one son and know how that feels. Can't imagine with 3.
I hope things settle down a little bit now. I have decided I am an ambivert and want 3 days in the house to knit, write, read and clean. I did a knitting class on Saturday and my knitting is slowly getting better! I started a little story about a law student on summer break for a new writing group I joined. I some how am involved in 3 book groups. I can't keep up with the reading!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

Oh and Lanette: I thought of you recently. I am on a streaming Martha Stewart kick! I love the different shows at her various ages! She had one on chickens! And of course her chickens are to die for! They are beautiful! Apparently she has been involved with chickens since the 70s or 80s and even facilitated communities changing their ordinances to allow chicken coops into neighborhoods and subdivisions. She is very proud of this!

Decluttering challenge Day 35/30-back to THE PILE35- lost my momentum last week. Decided to try again, with a time limit of one or two tunes. Organized the pile into 4 main stacks and a what-the-heck-do-I-do-with-these pile at the bottom. When I go to the fire house Monday night I’ll see if there’s a GRANTS folder for the 2 safety and security grants, the COVID-19 grant and the American Relief plan grant. Then maybe file the SAM.GOV stuff in the GRANTS folder, and make a separate binder for “miscellaneous correspondence.” Anyway that’s the plan… ;}

Hey, kiddos,
Still aching, but being at least mildly productive. Got all my machines up about a foot higher than they were sitting, and since all three work with foot pedals, it's easy to walk up to them, sew or serge a few seams, and be done with it.
Here's a weird one...I was finishing up the bag I'm working on, and was ironing it - and accidentally hit the web strap and burned it onto my iron. Was not terribly happy about that, obviously, and went looking for what I could use to get this plasticized black stuff off my iron... and found a video that said you could use paracetamol, what we would call Tylenol.
It worked. How on Earth did this woman find this out? Someone had to have once thought, "Oh, maybe I should try rubbing paracetamol on my iron to get that plastic off..." Wildly off-kilter, that. So - if you accidentally melt plastic onto your iron, use Tylenol to make it better... just in case you wanted to know. 🤷🏻♀️👀😂
Rosemarie - It's good to see you again! Your presence has been missed.
OK, I've had to correct three homonyms now, must be more tired than I thought.

Well, got the one door in the house hung up. Took the other door out to the garage. Vince wanted to rest and then he grilled. We had some weed & feed that I just wanted to use up so I put it down. Now getting ready for dinner.
Did part of the Abs Diet Workout DVD and part of a pilates DVD, then went for a walk around the neighborhood, then to WalMart. Oh, Jess came here yesterday just for a little bit to vote (her license has our house as her residence). Gave her some brownies, I should also have given her a sourdough bread that I made. Oh well….
Annie – I’m still trying to figure out why your dad was crying. If he didn’t see the clothes and know they were your mother’s, that’s not it (a reminder of her). Maybe he thought they were his clothes???? That’s the only thing I could think of that would make any sense. Other than him just displaying emotions. Hang in there girlfriend. You’re doing wonderfully. With all that you have on your plate, you are more than entitled to be grumpy. Let it out here, that’s what we’re here for (among other things)
We had a bad infestation of red ants. Tru Green came and treated the grass about a week ago. So the other day I removed the riverrocks where they’d been and swept a lot of their dirt. So yesterday I put them all back. So I hear ya, M
Margaret – thank you for those pictures. Reminded me of when we lived in the Poconos and the trees were changing color. Oh, they change down here, but not as majestic as up there
I like to cook bacon in the oven, but Vince feels it should be cooked in the microwave. To me, it’s less of a mess in the oven and it comes out good. They cook the bacon at BK in the oven
Lanette – You know, I think you’re on to something about how hard it is on the husband when the spouse passes. Vince has mentioned to me that if he were to die before I do, he isn’t as worried about me because he feels I have a lot more support. BK, the soup kitchen, church, ceramics (he does too), bowling (he does, too).
Rosemarie – I’m so sorry you were sick. What was it?
Rita – I also read about the flooding in Roswell and thought of you. Hope everything is OK
Denise called. She was a bit upset because Vince mentioned that Jess brought her dog here and a few years ago we told Denise that her dog couldn’t be here. We had to explain to her that it has to do with the dog’s temperament. Jess’ dog is SOO chill. He comes here, finds a spot, and just lays down. I’ve never heard him bark. And as I recall she said he was only 2. I would have thought he was more like 15! See, Denise has this idea that everything should be totally equal. We let Jess’ dog here, we should let hers. Only hers is a real handful. Rex is older now, he does have kidney problems and pees on the sofa and places. But (and don’t ask me why since their place is so small) she got another dog, a shepherd mix. Honestly, when we were there last, I don’t think I could take him for a walk. He pulls so much
Now she did say that they were considering (this I never heard of) sending him to an obedience school and then after 2 weeks they have a meeting for 2 hours to show them what to do. To me, I always thought the owners should be with the dog at obedience school so that the dog learns things like who the master is. But whatever… She mentioned how if this dog is better behaved, maybe we would let him come to our house. As if she’s really going to come down here! Hasn’t in the past 5 years, what makes me think she will in the future? The truth of why she doesn’t come is that it’s just so much easier for her if we go up there. She would have to pack for her, Pete and PJ. And then she’d have to remember things like taking toothpaste, a toothbrush, comb, deodorant, etc. So it’s just easier for her if we have to think of these things. Oh well…..

Good early morning, ladies. I got called off from work last night, so I am home. We only had 13 patients. That mom will be upset that I am not there to care for them. Her little girl is doing much better and tolerating food. She has gained weight as well. The mom gets mad when we are focusing on her child. I told her that if she doesn't get it together and stop threatening people, I will have my husband counsel her. She loved the idea. She hates for me to leave the room, and she talks so much I can't think. I told her to give me a moment to figure out the total volume of fluid that I was giving her daughter. I explained that I could not walk and chew bubble gum simultaneously. I tell her I have other patients to tend to, and she always says, "Don't leave me." I told her that she needed to sleep and stop obsessing.
As for my birthday plans, I didn't get my mani-pedi that day, but I will soon. Thank you, Pip, for the bike advice. I wanted an answer for whoever knew. Since moving to Chicago, a Hybrid will be excellent, and I am keeping my road bike, too. (My dad bought it for me.) Growing up, my dad always purchased a yellow Schwinn for me. I don't know why he got yellow in sunny CA. I always preferred red. So he finally got a wine-red Trek for me on Mother's Day. As for e-bikes, Lanette, those sound cool as well. I prefer to ride them on a quiet road—so much traffic in Chicago. I used to ride a lot in MS, but if I do again, it will be on the Natchez Trace. It Is so beautiful and scenic. I will need glasses. The bugs here are very aggressive. A bug got in my eye the last time I rode, and it swelled up. We have a friend in Chicago who sponsors rides on trails, and he taught my daughter and his four-year-old daughter how to ride without training wheels. Thank you, Flea, for your breakdown. I want a human-powered bike to burn calories, too. Machka, a human power bike, is all I have experience with.
Annie, six bags are impressive. I only have two boxes ready for Goodwill or the Salvation Army. DH wants to donate his pants to the Salvation Army. Goodwill is next door to Kroger, where I need to go, so that is where I will drop off tomorrow. There are pictures in Julia's room that I will save for her. Even though she is not allowed in my house anymore, I still love her. I am hoping that God is working on her. So far, she has a steady job. I will anonymously help her.
Pip, can you post a pick of the Klein bike? Your Yogi looks good for his age. He doesn't have a frosted snout. Rose is 9, and her face is now white. She is still playful and energetic, and she snores, too. I thought Yogi was younger than Rose.
Margaret, those scenic pictures are so beautiful. You look happy and radiant.
Tracey, that dragon is beautiful. My aunt loves dragons, and one year, I made her some dragon earrings and added purple crystals(her favorite color); she loved them. I love that ceramic place as well. I would go there every week if we had one. Michelle sent a link to Etsy, and I ordered some pieces to paint. The way you paint your ceramics is very detail-oriented, and they always look so good. Did you paint the eyes of the dragon too? You all are so creative.
Heather, you have been doing so well since your surgery. You are beautiful, and I can't wait to go to London and try the fish and chips I read about in books and now see in your pictures. I love John's painting. He is a natural.
Hi, Terri. I hope all is well with you. Thank you all for wishing me a happy birthday. Being friends with all of you is one of the best gifts I have received.
Lisa, I always wanted to be a coffee drinker. I couldn't wait until I liked coffee as a kid. I had some at work, but it didn't work with my reflux issue. Tea is my jam. I switch to Decaff close to bedtime. Our weather is the same; it is a lot cooler. I hope it will be warm enough for Rose and me to hit the trail this week. It sounds like your creative juices are flowing, and you and Corey are into your projects. This may be a crystal ball of what retirement will look like, having him home all day. With my DH, I must stop and cater to him and then return to work. I wish I could sew, but I failed that part in home economics. I want to make pretty hospital gowns for the more comfortable kids. You are multitalented, and I can't wait to see what you are selling at your booth.
Allie, I hope you have a smooth sailing on your cruise. Beware; it can be addictive. When you get home, you will be planning your next cruise. If so, maybe Greece?? Anyway, have fun. BTW, I love the matching PJs on sMiles and Delia. It is priceless.
Michelle, did you ever make those Whoopi pies? I think I will soon. I tend to cook more when my son is home. DH can bring things to Jules that I cook, too. I can't wait to try your recipe, too.
Well, Lisa is right, I can talk. Have a wonderful Monday, everyone.
XO,
MO, in Mississippi

It can be difficult to know what anyone is thinking, but it can be very difficult to put yourself in the place of someone whose brain is damaged ... to experience empathy.
When someone's brain is damaged through disease, stroke, TBI, etc. parts of that person's brain will no longer function in a way that is generally considered "normal".
When the frontal lobe or parts of the frontal lobe is damaged, reasoning & judgement and emotions can be affected.
If you don't have damage to your frontal lobe, you could look at 6 bags of stuff someone else has collected and be detached about them. Those things are not yours. The other person has chosen to get rid of them. That's fine.
But if you do have damage to your frontal lobe, the whole scenario could be perceived differently. For example, it might be perceived that the other person in the house is getting rid of some stuff. What does that mean? Is it my stuff? Is it my wife's stuff? Was I asked about it? Is the other person in the house moving out? Is the other person in the house moving me out? Or maybe just simply ... the person is getting rid of stuff from the house, thus there must be a sense of loss. It's hard to tell what's going on in the brain of the person with brain damage.
Then, if that's combined with memory loss (temporal lobe), there can be even more confusion. I can't remember whose stuff that is! I can't remember why the other person in the house is getting rid of it. What's going on?
I can understand and empathise with Annie's father because of the situation with my husband. Tears happen. Rather frequently at times.
My husband has a lot of damage to his left temporal lobe, some damage to his frontal lobe, and little dots of damage all over the place.
If he feels stressed about something, there can be all sorts of emotions!! And since he struggles with memory and language (expressing himself), the whole situation could look quite bizarre to a casual onlooker who has no idea what brain damage entails.
