    Hey everyone!
    Been MIA again!

Kids were off for the October half term so was just generally busy again!
I did manage to get to the gym twice in that week.

Yesterday the kids went back to school except Saskia was unwell. So I missed the gym again.
Today was my first day back at the gym and I've managed to hurt myself.

You'd think from epically working out.. but no. I fell in the jacuzzi.
I stepped in, completely missed the step then just decked it into the pool and hit my leg on the step that I originally missed.

My only savings grace was that no one was in the pool and miraculously I don't think anyone saw. I just resurfaced and sat down but my leg is in so much pain now. Hopefully it's okay tomorrow

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

    🦇👻🎃Happy Halloween!

I carved my pumpkins last night, I've got the seeds, pulp and some chunks of pumpkin with the flesh on from the parts we've cut out.

And I have no idea what I can do with it all (if anything)

And you guys are great at recipes so I thought of asking you!

Happy Halloween! I finished up midsemester conferences yesterday and met up with my daughter for a walk. She was craving a burger, so we went to Shake Shack. Not the healthiest choice, but by picking the simplest burger and substituting avocado for the cheese I made it a little less "bad."

Halloween was fun. I dressed up as Strawberry Shortcake. Even used strawberry body spray to complete the effect. The neighborhood kids enjoyed that I dressed up, but they enjoyed the candy more. I did have one set of kids make a second pass by the house, which annoyed me. I still gave them candy, but not big candy as I gave them big candy the first time. Their parents were with them and according to the kid when I asked "Are you doing a second round?" He replied that his mom said to. To me this is just plain old greedy and rude. They are being taught/shown that they don't need to follow the rules and that the world owes them. Sigh. Sorry for the rant.

After trick or treat we went out to dinner. Early evening as there wasn't much of interest going on on a Thursday night.

Figure I'll early vote today, then head home to finish my work day and maybe do some laundry. I have a funeral to attend tomorrow a few hours away. I'll see if I can get someone to cover spin, but if not, I think I can swing both.

    JFT Friday
    - Work by 8:00 :( More like 8:15, I was just way too comfy in bed
    - Vote
    - Mom's
    - Lunch
    - Home by 1:00pm
    - Finish my work day
    - Laundry
    - Dinner at home
    - Log food
    - No alcohol
    - Bed by 10:00

Still trying to catch up, but had a few things I wanted to comment on...

@mytime6630 Triple Irish Chain quilt? I had to Google it. Oh my goodness, they are so pretty! They look very difficult too. Are you doing machine embroidery of the animals or embroidery by hand? I'd love to see a photo when you're done!

@clicketykeys Welcome back! So good to see you! I've thought of you often and hoped you were well. You were missed. :)

Another Halloween in the books. I set up my self-serve candy cauldron after class and headed up to spend the rest of the day with my daughter. She wanted to get something like real food into them before they headed out to trick-or-treat, so I worked on the snacks while she juggled pick-ups and dropping the older one off with his friends. Then we took the younger one out until his dad picked him up at 6. The plan for the rest of the evening was, in my daughter's words, "to sit on the front porch and drink wine and give out candy." So that's what we did. We've been having an unseasonably hot and dry autumn here in NJ - a high of 82 F yesterday and no measurable rain for the entire month of October - so it felt like summer. Pleasant enough for the day, but we could really use some rain.

    Recap Thursday 10/31
    Log - :)
Healthy choices - No, but the choices weren't awful. I managed to stay under maintenance.
    Hydrate - :)
Walk? -Got a lot of steps in during the trick-or-treat round, but the pace was pretty slow.
    Halloween activities - :)
    Chores - Finished my laundry
    Prep/Grading - :)
    Relax - :)
    Sleep - Fair

Looks like a quiet weekend ahead, so it should be a good time to catch up on chores - and sleep!

Good morning! Fall is in the air in Wisconsin, that's for sure. We had record breaking 80 degree weather earlier in the week and today it's....well....brrrrrr. Sunny though! Last night it got cold and really windy for the kiddos who were trick or treating. Felt so bad for them. Didn't get as many as we usually do so have a huge bowl of mini chocolate bars left...uh oh.

I had a maintenance injection on Tuesday and my BP has gotten elevated so I'm once again on two different BP meds. I'm not sure if it is from the injections, which can cause heart damage, or if it's because I've been eating more processed and salty foods again. Doesn't matter, because either way I need to clean it up and try to reverse it. So here I go again...but at least I keep trying, right?

@HappyDonkey75 You posted something on October 20th that really resonated with me. I'm copying it and adding it as a spoiler at the bottom of my posts as a reminder. I hope you don't mind. I really loved it. Thanks for sharing!

Have a great day and an even better weekend, JFT friends!

    Today's Top 3 Why's:
    1) Cardiac Health
    2) Strength, so I can go up & down bleachers myself
    3) Less brain fog

    J4T / 11.01.2024
    1. No BS 24 Hour plan and assess.
    2. Journal every bite and close MFP diary at the end of the day
    3. 64 oz water. No excuses. DRINK MORE WATER! Add herbal tea if you need to...just do it.
    4. Watch for hunger vs boredom or emotional eating. Am I truly hungry, or am I trying to "fix" a feeling? If hungry, eat something I planned. If emotional eating, what can I do instead?
    5. Intentional activity, 30 minutes. Get outside and "touch a tree"! Close activity rings on watch.
    6. Home Care To-Do's: Clothing swap (put summer clothes away and bring out fall/winter). Floors. Pack away Halloween decor.
    7. Digital Declutter (Ongoing): Delete obsolete or odd photos (5 minutes). Email clean up (5 minutes). Copy files from old laptop onto jump drive (5 minutes)
    8. 5 Things Declutter challenge.
    9. Self Care (30 minutes of something calming)
    10. Evening Routine - START THIS AGAIN!

    This week I will…
-*Be intentional with the way I spend my time.
    * Focus on who is choosing me, wanting me, befriending me instead of worrying about who isn’t.
    * Actively search for joy in small moments.
    * Be kind every time I get the chance.
    * Be gentle with myself and with others. We are all human.
    * Remember that some things, some words and some people don’t require an emotional reaction from me. I can simply let it float away and move on with my life.
    * Put down my phone more and scroll less.
    * Refuse to feel guilty for finding pleasure in mundane things—a book, a game of pickleball, a phone call with a friend, a pumpkin spice latte…Life isn’t constantly about achieving this or that. Sometimes it’s about pure enjoyment.
    * Check on people I care about that I haven’t heard from in a while.
    * Work to forgive that person (whether they apologize or not).
    * Be in control of myself—my words, my actions, how I treat those around me and let the rest of it, rest.
    * Have pure intentions, but I will not people please. It’s okay if they don’t like me.
    * Try to carve out a little time with at least one person who is good for my soul.
    * Touch some grass.

Sorry for the long post, so you are warned haha. Just realized my last JFT post was Wed. before hubby and I drove out of town to meet with our financial advisor. I didn't finish posting food that day because we decided after our meeting to have a late lunch/early supper at a nearby bar & grill, and my food would've been a total guess (bang bang shrimp salad, so good).

Next day was shopping with hubby for long list of household items, like new pull cord for snowblower, silicone, toilet seat, etc. Followed by grocery shopping. I also did laundry. Managed to get >9000 steps without going for a walk! For the first time since we moved here 20 years ago, hubby and I had decided this year we wouldn't hand out candy for Halloween; there's few little kids in our block and I personally don't care to hand out candy to lots of strangers, plus the doorbell & costumes really fire up the dog which then terrifies Kitty, plus we didn't care to have leftover candy in the house. Instead, we turned our front porch lights off, and ate cheese, sausage and crackers upstairs for supper while we watched Halloween cartoons like The Great Pumpkin. I didn't miss handing out candy one bit. A huge success in my opinion (I must really be getting old LOL). But I didn't log food again.

Today hubby and I took his sister to her apartment up north and visited the cemetery of their parents. Another day with 3 hours car time... *sigh*. We ate at a local diner with excellent food, but again would be a total guess for my food log, so I didn't. Sodium content last few days most likely quite high.

I will log starting tomorrow. Hubby wants to use up the last farmers market tomatoes by making BLTs for brunch, and I love those. I'll log because I reasonably can. Probably will do more fall yard work. We've been doing a little at a time as the weather/our schedule allows, so not lots left to do, except wait for the last leaves to fall from the trees. Might as well log my JFT for tomorrow, while I'm here.

    JFTomorrow Sat. 11/2
    1) Walk
    2) BLTs for brunch / salmon & roasted veg for supper / log all food / 80 oz. water
    3) Put patio furniture, wind spinner, chimes, hose and garden misc. in shed / dump more planters? / rake leaves (front & back?) / rehearse song for women's choir on Sunday / digital declutter / read / other?

    OCTOBER 5# CHALLENGE {posting Mondays}
    9/30 SW: 185
10/7: 185.5 (post 5K-race refreshments, fast food 1x, open house snack cups were guesstimates)
10/14: 184.5 (including eating out for my bday)
10/22 (Tues): 184.0 (Sat. farmers market egg/sausage/cheese sandwich & hashbrowns, Sun. brunch before play & snacky evening at home ~ ack!)
10/28: 183.5 (Sat. lunch & adult beverage with PZ to celebrate my bday this month)
11/1: 184 (couple of days of high sodium, hoping to flush soon)

ETA: For several days this last week of the challenge, I was weighing in at 183. Not a huge loss overall, and the trend is slow, but in the right direction. I'll take that.

Half pound losses each week not so bad! I'm happy with that and not feeling deprived.

    Recap Sat. 11/2
    1) Walk  3.33 mi... that plus lots of yardwork = 18,000 step & happy me
    2) BLTs for brunch ~ sodium high but yum / salmon & roasted veg for supper / log all food / 80 oz. water
    3) Put patio furniture, wind spinner, chimes, hose and garden misc. in shed ~ I did this while hubby repaired brick steps by front door / dump more planters? yep all but two, still blooming / rake leaves (front & back?) ~ thankfully, hubby used leaf blower to move all. the. leaves while I raked front yard leaves to curb, back yard leaves on flower beds / rehearse song for women's choir on Sunday / digital declutter / read / other? changed clocks that aren't automatic  TA-DA!

    JFT Sunday 11/3

Tomorrow is my Dad's 90th birthday. He doesn't want a big fuss, but my sister & her hubby, myself & my hubby will go visit in the afternoon. Of course, we will bring treats to eat. Not sure who else will show up, certainly maternal aunt, most likely eldest brother, youngest brother & his wife, maybe middle brother's wife (alone if he's at work). Dad will cook their noon meal as usual (his choice), so rest of us will bring our own lunch (sandwiches?) or eat at home. I will log to best of my ability. Won't take time to walk before driving 90 min. so step goal will be min. 5000.

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

Simple goals for today, Monday, Nov 4
    1. log all food!! WHY is this so hard for me to do!!! Solution: Do this right after I eat anything
    2. concentrate on water. WHY is this so hard for me to do!! Solution: Keep the red cup in the bathroom
    3. No snacks.. 3 good meals a day. WHY is this so hard for me to do. Solution: Carry my water with me, and sip on water all evening. I'm not hungry.. I'm probably just thirsty.
    4. Don't get so discouraged... don't give up. Losing weight takes time. Solution: Do not weigh myself everyday. Next weigh in next Monday morning... stay off the scale.
    Monday weigh ins
    Joan: SW 10/7: 208
    10/7 206.8
10/14 208.0 Back up again, but its my own fault.. too much nite time snacking and not enough water again.
10/21: 204.4 Had a much better week, except had a dairy queen ice cream cone last nite.. but I had walked 2+ hrs, so OK with that. Trying to just eat my 3 meals a day.. no snacking, and more water.
10/28: 208. Grandson and DIL were in town over the weekend.. so ate way too many carbs and the wrong foods. So I'm hoping that the weight is just food weight and not actual pounds!
