Well, hubby cooked and I watched the dogs for a bit, then I joined a friend for trivia. When I came home Tim and I finished watching the football game.

Got up at 4:00 with the pup as usual, then put him back in the kennel. He cried again at 5:00 so I took him out, then again at 6:00. This time I laid down on the couch and he snuggled up with me. We both fell asleep until 6:45. Oops. I had planned to leave at 6:45 to take him to doggie daycare and then come home and load up my car with food for work. Plans changed so I had to take the food and pup in the same trip. Thankfully he was good and didn't snoop in the very back of the Acadia.

Today is the work potluck. I'm a picky eater so I usually fair well at this sort of thing. I'll have some turkey with dressing and maybe a couple of cookies and call it good. Plan for tonight is to decorate the tree and the living room. The only thing I don't like about real trees is trying to get the lights just right. I usually do them, but Tim said he'd give it a try this year as long as I didn't complain about it. I've definitely mellowed when it comes to my expectations of everything being perfect.

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26.
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
      * potato leek soup (AllRecipes.com) ~ very good alternate leek soup recipe, easy to make... chopping up so many potatoes was the worst part LOL
      * roasted daikon radishes (internet) ~ too long in oven, but seemed to have good flavor, will try again
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):

Just caught up on posts. Too late to post goals for today but wanted to check in.

Today was my first session of StayStrong, which is the strength and balance program that follows once you complete LiveStrong. I hadn't done anything that physical in a few weeks so I sure did feel it today! My knees were really aching. I know my knees are arthritic but they'd been pretty good up until today. I think maybe the cold weather and the kinds of food I've been eating for the past week are contributing to it.

We finally got rid of the leftovers from Thanksgiving and today I've been more selective in my choices...need to get back on track! I've been slacking on the water too. Gosh, how easily derailed I am!

@cschmitz110515 Great news about your dog's biopsy results! Yay!

@pridesabtch Sounds like you had busy but fun Thanksgiving holiday. How fun that Chase got to go find a tree with your husband. I love that tradition.

@bex95123 Yay for getting your cast off and for healing well. I'm so happy to hear that. I'd be afraid of bumping it or hurting it too. I didn't realize your MIL had thyroid cancer and mets from that. I thought she had breast cancer for some reason... Either way, she must be hurting, and I'm sorry. :'(

@more_freggies76 India! How wonderful for you! I can only dream of such adventures. I hope you had a wonderful trip, and safe travels home!

Have a great evening! I'll hop on tomorrow with goals.

I am only 7.52km from completing the annual MapMyWalk distance challenge of 1024km. I had planned to complete the distance before Thanksgiving (11/28), but then had my fall on 11/22 and 9 stitches in my finger. That derailed my walking for a bit, now the weather is not cooperating. I was really bummed at first, but realize my fall wasn't worse (no broken bones, for example). Logically, I know that I have plenty of time to finish the "annual" challenge this year. It happens when it happens.

Good morning! We are expecting snow flurries today and the sky is rather gray and gloomy. I can handle the cold weather of Wisconsin winters but the gray skies can be so depressing. Makes it hard to want to get out of my pj’s and actually do something.

Yesterday was my first StayStrong session. There were only 3 of us there doing the circuit so that was nice and easy way to ease into a new group. Tomorrow the session is held at a different Y and usually has between 7 - 11 participants so it’ll be bigger and a bit more intimidating, but I think I’m going to go. The two other people in my session yesterday will be there so I should know someone at least. I couldn’t believe how sore my muscles were! Oy! Obviously, I have been sitting on my *kitten* a bit too much. 😬

@cschmitz110515 How is your hand doing? Do you still have stitches? How’s your pup doing? Sad for her that she has to wear the cone even longer!

    Just For Today, 12-4-2024
    • Make 24 hr plan & assess yesterday’s
    • Drink 64+ oz water
    • 30 minutes intentional activity. Close Activity Rings on watch. Goal = 6,000 steps.
    • Leave 2 bites from one meal. Stop at “enough”.
    • Journal. Marcos. Podcast - at least 1 No BS Weightloss podcast or course.
    • H’s wrestling scrimmage tonight
    • Journal every bite and close Food Diary at end of the day. Calcium 1260 mg / Vit D3 400 iU
    • Self care 30 minutes.
    • Evening Routine

This week, I will work on:
    • Christmas Baking List
    • Christmas decorating, start…
    • Christmas gift list
    • Start writing Christmas cards

Work holiday luncheon was a huge success. Tons of food and lots of conversation. Deciding instead of going straight home after work that I would go get a mani/pedi. It was nice. Picked up dinner on the way home. Got home ate, spent some time with pups, then decorated the tree with hubby and watched Christmas movies. Pretty full day.

Today, well all morning, was spent with mom. She had a dentist appointment at 8:30, and had to get blood work after that. Dentist appointment was eye opening. She hadn't been in a while. Last visit they made her a temporary retainer with a fake tooth so her smile would look normal. Because of her dementia I found out that she didn't even know she had it in. Which means it hadn't bee removed in a looong time. My her teeth were nasty. I'm proud of the dentist and tech, they didn't flinch. I did. Plan going forward is to get an actual partial made because her bone deterioration is too extensive for dentures. In the mean time there will be extractions and waiting. The lab work was quick and easy once they found the orders, but then she needed to go to the grocery. I was way behind schedule to get back to work, but you do what you must I suppose.

Trivia tonight, but not a late night. Home, shower, chill a bit by the Christmas lights. Maybe set up the large nativity set and decorate the table.

@more_freggies76 Welcome home! As much as I like to travel, it's always nice to come back home.

@PackerFanInGB Yes, my stitches were taken out on Tuesday. My finger is still swollen & I can't really bend it, but still healing. Hubby reminds me it was a major injury to that finger. Dog is continuing to heal. Next bandage change & vet check is Mon. Probably will be another week before vet considers taking out her stitches, to be on the safe side.

Recap 12/4 W ~ windy, blustery day with falling temps & cold wind chills... I'm not walking outside
    1) Make spaghetti sauce & weigh pasta for supper ~ huge win that I weighed my pasta & kept portion reasonable :D / limit snacks & sweets ~ 10 M&Ms / net calories zero ~ red 330 with no exercise / 80 oz. water  not a bad day
    2) Min. 5000 steps ~ >6000
    3) Grocery shop / gas in vehicle / Sam's Club / rehearse Christmas music / hang wreath / put clean dishes away / read / digital declutter / other? texted with sister <3 , some cleaning, finance tasks  ta-da!

JFT 12/5 W ~ another windy, cold day & roads are icy/snow covered so no outside walk... I'm actually thinking about using our basement treadmill *sigh*
    1) Leftovers for supper / limit snacks & sweets / log all food / 80 oz water
    2) Min. 5000 steps
    3) Laundry (clothes & towels) / switch out seasonal art on walls / little more cleaning / put up fake tree in living room / read / digital declutter / Packers game 7:15 p.m. (I hate Thursday night games) / other?

Well, today was supposed to be a quiet day at home, doing laundry & household tasks. Woke up to hubby telling me our furnace acting up, and he turned on the "emergency" setting. Of course it's a cold winter day, and we have our "fall" service check scheduled for tomorrow (on the calendar for at least two months). But the setting is doing it's job & hubby called our service to ask if that setting can run until appointment tomorrow (and not have to pay for emergency service call). Answer is yes, so that's good. Probably will have to pay for some part replacement, oh well. House is warm & that's what matters.

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

        Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept / Oct /
      6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
      • Registered early (shoot, didn't get selected randomly for waiver of fee) on 12.29.23 for 6.8.24 Bellin 10K race ~ light rain most of race, steady rain last mile or so :star: chip time 1:42:35 ave. pace 16:31 (first half 16:50 second half 16:12) overall 3,136 out of 3,463 / females 1,560 out of 1,792 / F65-69yo 30 out of 48 ~ not as fast as I used to go, but still finished my 27th Bellin overall (their 48th year)

Good morning! Pretty good day yesterday. Didn’t get my water in AGAIN…not sure why this is such a struggle! I mean it’s just water! Today’s a new day. I’m going to use my 26 oz aqua stainless steel water bottle and fill it 3 x before bed. See if that helps. 🤷🏻‍♀️🥸

@cschmitz110515 Yes, I’m sure it’ll take time for your finger to truly heal. Sounds like it’s going in the right direction though. Yay! On a side note…I don’t like Thursday night games either…or Sunday night, Monday night….I’m struggling to go to my grandson’s 7:00 pm high school basketball games! 7:00 pm is pajama time at my house. 😂 Anyway, GO PACK! 🏈💚💛

I didn’t make it to StayStrong today. I woke up really late and I’ve got a bit of a headache and stuffy head so decided to lay low. I’m still going to get 30 minutes of exercise but it might be in 15-minute increments in my basement…Body Groove video maybe? It’s really cold out today, so whatever exercise I do will be inside.

    Have a great day everyone!

Good morning! Happy Friday! Yesterday was a bust…lots of ❌s. Boo. Today will be better. 🥸

Cold, gray and windy here in Wisconsin. 🥶 I have been very tired this week, and it’s almost like I’m fighting a cold today. My brain wants to get some activity but my body wants to cuddle under a blanket and hot beverage with a book. The weather sure doesn’t help. I tend to get depressed in the winter months without sunshine. Perhaps it would help fight that depression if I got outside and walked in the cold, just to be outside in nature? Do any of you have seasonal affective disorder? If so, how do you combat the winter months?

Last night was grandson’s band concert. I had forgotten just how talented 6th graders are on their instruments! 🤣😂🎶🎵 it was so cute though. The Packers - Lions game was a heartbreaker for us Green Bay Packers fans though… I hate to admit it, but the Lions are really looking good this year.

Well, I’ve got a ton to do today, since I’ve done none of it this week, so better get going on goals. Have a wonderful Friday!

@PackerFanInGB Yes, last night was an exciting game, even if the outcome wasn't what we wanted. Watching the Lions' first possession & series, I realized why their record is so good this season: they are that good. As for winter dreary days, I have a lamp (with a "full spectrum" bulb) that I read by that's supposed to help with SAD, not that I've ever been diagnosed. I also take vitamin D supplements. Those things seem to help. I know what you mean about missing the sunshine in winter. We get excited at our house when we see shadows outside LOL.

Recap 12/5 W ~ another windy, cold day & roads are icy/snow covered so no outside walk... I'm actually thinking about using our basement treadmill *sigh*
    1) Leftovers for supper ~ conscientiously weighted pasta again LOL / limit snacks & sweets ~ only 10 M&Ms, no snacks (helped that with no exercise, I'm not as hungry) / log all food / net calories zero ~ red 213 but my daily w-i tells me I'm doing something right / 80 oz water
    2) Min. 5000 steps ~ >6200
    3) Laundry (clothes & towels) ~ plus fleece blankets / switch out seasonal art on walls / little more cleaning ~ did more than I thought I would & happy me / put up fake tree in living room ~ hubby did / read / digital declutter ~ not much but some / Packers game 7:15 p.m. (I hate Thursday night games) / other? rehearsed Christmas music, got text from Social Security so logged in & downloaded my first ever COLA notice & printed to take to tax preparer next year, washed some dishes (not all, don't want to push the healing of my finger), watched pileated woodpecker in our/neighbor's yards, topped up heated birdbath  TA-DA!

JFT 12/6 R ~ even colder today, wind not so bad, still cloudy & maybe a little snowfall?
    1) Defrost/cook fish & veg for supper (hubby will continue to eat spaghetti leftovers, his favorite meal ever) / limit snacks & sweets / log all food / net calories zero / 80 oz. water
    2) Min. 5000 steps
    3) Furnace fall service (bet. 1-3) / email aunt (she had carpal tunnel surgery several days ago) / water herbs & houseplants / rehearse Christmas music / update budget spreadsheet / call Mom / read / digital declutter / other?

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]
    June: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin 10K}, 5x1, 2x2 {either very rainy or hot for 2 wks}
    July: 5 days x1wk {including Packers 5K}, 4x2, 3x1 {a lot of very hot/humid days}
    August: 5 days x1wk, 4x2, 1x1 {hot/humid & scheduling conflicts}
    September: 5 days x1wk {including Annual Bridge Walk ~ double-crosser on The Mighty Mac}, 4x1, 3x2 {prep & colonoscopy so limited exercise}
    October: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin Women's 5K}, 5x1; 3x2 {bday day trip & dog/cyst between toes, overnight trip to parents & day trip to SB w/ PZ}
    November: 5 days x1wk, 4x2, 1x1 {finger laceration & Thanksgiving}

    Just For Today, 12-5-2024

Late posting but want for my own accountability. Might as well post tomorrow's goals too.

Recap 12/6 R ~ even colder today, wind not so bad, still cloudy & maybe a little snowfall?
    1) Defrost/cook fish & veg for supper (hubby will continue to eat spaghetti leftovers, his favorite meal ever) / limit snacks & sweets ~ banana & 10 M&Ms / log all food / net calories zero ~ several 100 in the red but weigh-in good / 80 oz. water
    2) Min. 5000 steps
    3) Furnace fall service (bet. 1-3) / email aunt (she had carpal tunnel surgery several days ago) / water herbs & houseplants / rehearse Christmas music / update budget spreadsheet / call Mom <3 / read / digital declutter / other? Finally got to watch Race to Alaska movie, thanks to hubby searching our TV apps  ta-da!

    JFT Sat. 12/7
    1) Min. 5000 steps
    2) Wise food choices but not logging since too many guesses (at funeral luncheon) / 64 oz water
    3) Volunteered at funeral luncheon, which extended from food prep & set-up for restaurant delivery to assisting with beverage table, helping pack leftovers & clearing tables of creamer, S&P, flowers (definitely stayed more than originally planned) / write out giving checks / rehearse Christmas music / load/run dishwasher / text sister, youngest brother / read / digital declutter / other?

    JFT Sunday 12/8
    1) Church 9:00 / Christmas music program 4:00 (choir arrive 3:00)
    2) Judicious choices at reception / log all food (best guess) / 64 oz water / net calories zero
    3) Walk? Min. 5000 steps
    4) Other?

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]
    February: 6 days x1wk, 5x1, 4x1, 2x1 [2 wks overnight trips to visit parents]
March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]

    July: 5 days x1wk {including Packers 5K}, 4x2, 3x1 {a lot of very hot/humid days}
    August: 5 days x1wk, 4x2, 1x1 {hot/humid & scheduling conflicts}
    September: 5 days x1wk {including Annual Bridge Walk ~ double-crosser on The Mighty Mac}, 4x1, 3x2 {prep & colonoscopy so limited exercise}

      • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km (knee issues).
      5) At least 7,500 steps per day
      • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 7,500 steps [noticed 7/12 that requirement reduced to 5,000 steps, but I'll continue with goal of 7,500]:

No you were right, she had that too. She started with breast cancer (this was before I met Ash so she had finished treatment and was on tamoxifen)

Then she had skin cancer, they got rid of that, then they found the bone cancer and thyroid cancer.

Also more bad news, the operation has been cancelled. I thought postponed but it was actually fully cancelled. The tumour on her hip is alot larger than they thought and now they won't operate, said it's too dangerous. Which to me is ridiculous because either way now, she's gonna die.

And I'm pretty sure that was our last hope. So I'm bricking it because I won't know how to support everyone through this.
Ash is gonna be broken, so will his dad and even my own kids will take it very hard. What the hell am I supposed to do?

Sorry for the miserable info-dump. But you guys have always been here for me x

Oh Bex. I’m so, so sorry! This is such sad news. There’s no way to plan for going through something like this. All you can do is take it day by day and just be there when your MIL, FIL, Ash or the girls need you to listen…. I wish I could give you a real in-person hug, my friend. I wish there was something I could do to help. 🫂💞😢❤️‍🩹

OMG Bex.. reading your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so very very sorry. All I can say.. prayers for you and Ash, and for your children, and many hugs to all of you. But.. I also believe in miracles.. so don't give up! Ashs mother is still with you... and its one day at a time. The rest is in God's hands.
