Today would have been my first run for the Strava challenges, but I skipped running to cut up the tree that the wind blew down in my yard, yesterday. I've got 21 days left to do 62.1 miles. Less than a 5k per day. Do-able.3 -

I have attempted to send you an athlete invite direct from the group. Strava does not recognize your name. I tried from your profile and still does not recognize.

I tried adding, again, but I keep getting error messages. Maybe try with my non-custom URL?: https://www.strava.com/athletes/155460788
Note: I just changed my first name and custom URL, and it let me send an add request.2 -
Morning all.
Another (slightly less than yesterday) Painful 4miler - at 11"01.
Will continue to alternate between Deep Heat and ice-pack raised etc.
Thanks for all the kind words 🙏🏽
PS: totally unrelated sidenote-
If anyone's interested...
Movie awards season. Oscars etc etc
(Done with Hallmark Christmas movies and Horrors! Lol)
Saw 'Gladiator 2' and 'Anora'. Both good. Especially liked the latter. Movie with an actual storyline and relatable characters, not some Biopic or history piece which is made only for critics in newspapers.

I'm glad your foot was slightly less painful @tarun_yadavA . At least it is heading in the right direction.0

Hey everyone!
Crunchy snow/slush run today. Running was enjoyable and also a bit more work in those conditions. It was pretty out. I did have cold wet feet from hidden slush puddles , but I didn’t mind because the snow was pretty and the ice parts were crunchy, not smooth. It sounds like I’m taking about peanut butter . I ran 10.7km.
97.8/280km for January.5 -
Good morning!
I'm behind on posting my runs here but I have been at it this week. Due to schedule and the weather, I switched to running after work on Tuesday and Thursday (5 miles each day) when the temperature was up to 30F both days instead of 10F like it was yesterday morning. This morning I ran 1 mile on the treadmill and walked half a mile. We're forecasted for another snow (3-6 inches) starting this afternoon so I'm not sure what that will mean for weekend running. I'm too old to slip and fall on the ice!
Beautiful pictures of the snow @daria0919 and @kgirlhart but I'm also over it and really, really love @ContraryMaryMary's photos of Fiji the best!
Hope your aches and pains are better soon @tarun_yadavA and @Scott6255 and hope you aren't getting sick @quilteryoyo. So much is going around now and I'm sure you are exposed to a lot at daycare.
Welcome @SwimBikeRunRepeat!
@WarmJellyFish - I started taking Osteo Bi-Flex with glucosamine & MSM this year and I can really tell a difference. I watched a couple of AT thru-hikers on YouTube during their journey last year and they swore by it and they were relatively young.
@Emilienewme - This time of year, I always start off in a pair of gloves. I have several pairs in varying degrees of thickness/warmth. I usually end up shedding them after a couple of miles. Also, I've found that I can't run with a toboggan or head covering. I get too hot, but a headband that covers my ears is essential for me.6 -

@Teresa502 thanks for the lead. I'll check it out. I hear you on the ice slippy slidy. We use cleats for ice. For really gnarly ice on trails, I use kahtoola microspikes which are like mini-crampons. Better yet, I also use Icebugs which have the cleats built in. If you don't get ice regularly, maybe the slip on cleats are enough.

@Scott6255 thanks for the recommend earlier!
@tarun_yadavA good to hear your foot is improving
@Laurz9191 I know about cold snowy slushy wet cold feet. I just run faster to warm up2 -
So my MTD is 40km out of 150k goal.
The next 3 days will suck being on airplanes. One leg is 16.40 hours. Welp8 -

Nice peanut butter run @Laurz9191 . I would NOT have liked the cold wet feet.
Thanks @Teresa502 . Yes. I love the kids, but they are little germ factories and repositories. You've been doing great this week. It just started snowing here about 12:30.
I still don't know how you do all of those crazy laps @AlphaHowls !
@WarmJellyfish I would think those microspikes would be hard to run in. If I lived in the north, and ventured outside to run, I'd probably get the icebugs. They look more comfy and "natural."1 -

10 Jan - Walked 0.50 miles - Ran 3.00 miles - Treadmill
24.50/80.00 miles
I still feel like I am coming down with something, so decided I was going to take it easy on the treadmill. But, once I got going, it wasn't too bad. I did a run/walk of 2/1 min, twice each at 5.0-5.5/40, then 6.0 mph for 1 min. It really didn't feel too bad. In fact, the most comfortable pace was 5.3 mph, which I am happy with. My avg pace was 12:20 min/mile. Avg HR was 122 with a max of 146 bpm.
As I said above, it's been snowing here for about 2 hours. I have about 0.25 to 0.50 inches of snow at the moment. Just waiting to take a nice walk to the mailbox after it runs. It's 29F (-1.7C) and not much of a breeze, so shouldn't be too bad.5 -
Tippy and I walked to the mailbox. Big flakes were falling and it was really pretty.
She really wanted to walk in the neighbor's field. Maybe tomorrow Tippy. Maybe tomorrow.
Covered in snow. She loves this weather.8 -
Happy Friday, all.
I've been plugging away at my return to running program on the iFit. I'm just starting week 5 of 6. It seems to have ramped up quickly from the 30 second intervals in week 1. The program is 5 days a week and had 3 days of "foundation" and 2 days of "growth". The foundation has increased to 5 minute intervals. Last growth run was two 12-minute intervals. I think I'm due for another growth run which I was planning for today but might put off to tomorrow, we'll see.
It's been snowing steadily here - not huge amounts but for days in a row. I think we have 10 or 12 inches on the ground. Yesterday morning was not so fun to be driving to campus, but at least it was fairly deserted there as students haven't arrived yet. Classes start Monday so it all gets real soon.
Does anyone do cupping to help with pain and tightness? I've been seeing a PT regularly since this summer and she often will do cupping for the tendon pain around my knees. It may be in my head but I think it helps. This last time I saw her she said I could buy my own set if if I wanted to do it at home and she show me how to do it myself, so I'm considering it. I only see her once a month now so it might be nice to do it occasionally on my own when I'm tight/sore (which is all the time, lol).3 -
@quilteryoyo you get use to the spikes expecially on snow and gnarly ice on slopes. They are soooo much safer and don't slip as much on ice slopes.1

Comment (01/09/25):
My training is going into high gear, tomorrow, but I'm having a very high-calorie meal for dinner, tonight, so I went for a small walk to help lessen the blow.4 -

I really do not have an answer, but mostly I am easily entertained in my head, and I really don't see it as just repetitive loops.

@Laurz9191 Mmmm, peanut butter!
@quilteryoyo The snow is so pretty! While I like the cold, I don’t love snow. It’s pretty to look at but cold and wet sucks and even though I’m younger than @Teresa502 I worry about slipping and falling on hidden ice.
@Emilienewme @Teresa502 I also can’t run in a beanie. Ear cover all the way! I often do a thin ear cover using one of those wide headbands and then put my running hat over it for the shade. Then I can just flip it off my ears if I get too warm. Ofc, I am in a warm area so not contending with the super cold a lot of y’all are.0 -

Thanks, @chris_in_cal! Between the change-of-dinner plans and the 2 unplanned Double IPAs that I had during the Cotton Bowl last night, it's a small miracle that I broke even this morning. I'm sure yesterday's walk helped at-least a little.1
