@chris_in_cal Been meaning to ask you how things are in your area? I couldn’t remember where you lived relative to the LA fires. A woman I work with has relatives in Altadena and they lost 2 family homes. You see snippets on the news but they tend to focus on the big money areas like Malibu.

    Jan total 41.4/110 miles
    YTD: 41.4 miles

    1/1: 5.9 miles
    1/3: 4.4 miles
    1/4: 10.4 miles
    1/6: 5.4 miles
    1/8: 4.4 miles
    1/9: 6.5 miles
    1/10: 4.4 miles

Easy run after work yesterday. It was pretty windy, which was awesome in a tail wind when you caught it the right way!
I usually do my long run Saturday am but I have to work this morning so I will have to push it to the afternoon. It’s so much easier for me to get out in the morning and my run this week is 13 miles. At least the weather will be nice, which helps a lot with motivation.

    Comment (01/11/25):
I was thinking about doing a 5K, but I didn't dress warmly enough to stay out any longer than I did. The winds are completely gone, and the smoke from the L.A. fires is sitting along the coast and nowhere near here. Still ash falling, on a daily basis, from the Aiport Fire, but not as blinding as when we had the brutal winds for a couple of days.

Why do new shoes make me motivated and speedy? 🤷‍♀️😀🙃😂 In keeping with my decision that just because I am over 60 I can only hold the line and not make progress is horse pucky, I am continuing my drive to work harder and expect to be stronger and fitter this year for 66 or oh crap 67! 😳

Today's 10 miler run was unplanned but the weather was really perfect - and you won't hear this Texan say 28 is perfect very often....😳😳😳 I had gotten some new Nike rocket shoes for xmas but delayed wearing them until it dried out a little so this morning was the day for them.

Welcome @SwimBikeRunRepeat to our little haven.

@Avidkeo please check in and let us know how you are doing!

@quilteryoyo hope that whatever you thought you were coming down with disappears without blooming into something for you!

@tarun_yadavA hope those new shoes turn the tide on your foot hurting! One can never have too many running shoes..😎😎😎

@chris_in_cal nice to see you back and keeping active again!!!

@Scott6255 hope you are enjoying all that snow and just keep it right up there k? And you know... because I always say this.🙃🧐 maybe your lower legs might like a change up in shoe styles? I actually got some trail shoes to use because my normal runners were not keeping my feet warm. And sometimes change in drop # can make a huge difference in how our skeleton/muscle/tendons react to running. For a while a few years back when tennis did my back in I was tottering around on 2" heels at work because it relieved my back pain totally (well along with excedrin migraine).

    Thanks!

I missed yesterday because it was really icy until the afternoon & then the wind got really strong so I did bike instead. Today was cold but calm so a nice fresh run. I can find my foot improving & this is the stage I got to last month & ran 4 miles & hurt it again so going to continue on for another few weeks. These short runs suit this cold weather anyway

Sounds like you are doing great @katharmonic . That's more snow than we normally get all year! I've never heard of cupping before.

@AlphaHowls I can't entertain myself that well. You are amazing.

I think we all worry about falling on the snow and ice @martaindale . It isn't good, regardless of your age. Sorry about your friend's relatives houses. Those fires are horrible. I hope your long run goes well today.

I'm glad you are safe from the fires @SwimBikeRunRepeat .

Thanks @SummerSkier I do seem to be feeling better today. I think taking Mucinex every night is helping to nip it in the bud. Great long, cold, run in your new rocket shoes today!

It's okay to walk @yirara . At least you are still moving forward.

@Mari33a Good idea to give the foot a bit longer to heal. You are doing great with the shorter runs and biking.

I hope you feel better soon @kgirlhart !

I took a stroll into the neighbor's field with Tippy this morning, before the wind got up. I love taking pictures of their snowy pond that is just over the hill from my house. Today's pictures are pretty, but would have been much better if the sun had been shining.

We got between 2.25 and 3.5 inches, depending on where it was measured.

After I warmed up and procrastinated long enough, I did a run on the treadmill. I wasn't sure how much I would do, but it felt pretty good, so did a total of 6 miles. I did a run/walk of 2/1 min at 5.0-5.6/4.0 mph and 1/1 min at 5.7-6.1/4.0 mph, twice at each level. I was beginning to get tired at the end, but it wasn't horrible. Avg pace was 12:14 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 158 bpm. I am really wanting to get my pace to be consistently under 12 min/mile. I'm working on it. For now I'm happy with under 13 min/mile.

Thanks for thinking about us out West. I'm fine and it is nerve wracking how it's very clear, warm, dry and beautiful in San Diego, yet so close by it's Armageddon. As a teenager I was able to spend some time with a friend at his parents' big old mansion in Pacific Palisades. I'm grateful for that opportunity, and aware that all of that is probably smoldering ash right now. That old friend died earlier this year from his drug and alcohol addiction. It's been weird that I heard of his passing, I thought a lot about him, and then a month or two later I'm thinking of the ruin of that home and his life.

I got two more runs in...my new Pixel Watch 3 has me going through a huge learning curve. I'm not convinced it's going to work for me, but I'm giving it the old college try.

    Jan total 54.7/110 miles
    YTD: 54.7 miles

    1/11: 13.3 miles

Long run today. My knee started hurting again about mile 6 and I had to walk a while. When I got moving again I found going a tad faster was more comfortable. The pain is definitely related to muscle tightness. I think doing such long runs at the slower pace is hard on my legs. It forces my stride to shorten and I think I bounce up and down more. Going just a little faster feels like more natural mechanics and my fitness seems fine at that pace. I'm not pushing it too hard or anything.
It gets annoying listening to my watch beep at me for being outside of the prescribed range but I'm not sure I would have been able to run as much of the back half of I tried to stick with the slower pace.

@quilteryoyo Thanks! The LA fires haven't impacted me that much, but I am still dealing with the aftermath of the Airport Fire.
