Your story is very similar to mine. Four years ago I went into the doctor (dermatologist insisted I get a checkup before she removed a mole) and I had high BP, a very high A1C and was 212. I went on a low carb diet and in nine months or so I was down in the 160s. Then I moved and in a new place, my diet really went by the wayside and I gained 30 pounds over the next three years. Another dr appt and I was high BP, high A1c again and I told the PA I wanted to handle the latter with diet and exercise. Now I'm 143.2, and I want to lose another 20. My A1C is prediabetic now. I am hoping with another 20 to get it back to normal. And I am (at the high end) of ideal weight and ideal BMI. So it can be done. I haven't been at this low a weight for 30 years. I honestly am looking forward to losing the last 20. I have added a few more carbs to my diet but I'm still sticking more or less to 1200 calories a day. And lots of walking. (And I'm 67).

@Bswain2022 .. Tate McRae from Southern California? I grew up with his dad, as we are cousins. I have met Tate a couple of times. Sadly I don't know him very well.

Wow….yes….our stories are very similar. Congrats on your amazing weight loss and overall health improvement!
I have found I can now take less insulin, so I guess my efforts are paying off. I still have a long way to go, but I will get there. Stories like yours encourage me to keep moving forward. Thank you for your reply and continued good health to you!

I really want to lose 20 lbs this year, and get back to running.

Well, the PA wanted to put me on insulin (my A1c was 10.4) but I refused. Then she offered metformin but I refused that, and told her I wanted to do it with just diet and exercise. Maybe I was wrong to avoid taking the drugs. But I have a horror of taking medication and so that's why I worked so hard to lose the weight and go low carb. My PA was astonished at my last visit that I went from diabetic to prediabetic. And she said my bloodwork was otherwise fine. I just have to keep it up. I'm introducing some limited carbs to my diet now, to see how I tolerate them and if I have improved my insulin resistance. I am having like 50 net carbs a day, rather than 20-30. I will see how it goes for a month. If my A1c goes up or doesn't go down (it was 6.3 last testing and my DMI (from mysugr) is currently 6.1), then I'll go back to 20-30. I test my A1C once a month with a home test kit (A1CNOW) so I don't have to wait for the next appt 4 months from now to see how I'm doing. So it is possible to reverse T2. I wish you good luck and good health.

Lost some weight and instead of jowls, now have a turkey neck. Hoping with more loss that it'll be gone.

@patriciafoley1 .. A lot of the medications out there are so toxic to the body. I made the same choice. My numbers were better last blood tests. I will keep working at it as well.

Just met my goal of 60lbs lost (early) - now hoping to NOT BE OBESE by the end of the year! That means out of the 200's by December - ~40 lbs to go!

My current goal is to lose 10lb. I'm on Day 5 of a 30 Day Fat Loss Challenge. I would love to be able to achieve this mini goal at the end of it.

That's ambitious, trying to lose 2.5 lbs a week! While there is nothing wrong with setting ambitious goals, remember it's ok to reach more realistic goals, too, like 1 lb a week. Good luck either way!

@rms62003 .. You can do it!

I just achieved a mini goal of getting my A1C down. It was 7.8 four months ago. Lab work just came back and it now 6.1. Still more work to do but I’m taking the victory. Next goal is to lose 9 more pounds and get under 200 for the first time in five years.

@rms62003 Excellent work! I'm in the same boat, I'm about half-way through the obese range now and hope to be out of it by the end of the year (ideally earlier). Let's do this!

You're right - I'm going to change it to 5lb. That would be more realistic. Thanks for pointing that out. I often get carried away with unrealistic goals.

Well, in my first week back—with a goal of 2 lbs this first week—my scale moved 7.2 lbs. We all know that is NOT 7.2 lbs of fat, though. My knee lost a LOT of swelling (post total knee replacement done on 4/14), so I think that accounts for a lot of the loss.
So my goal for this week is 2 lbs again.

I seriously restarted my weight loss journey on 17th February this year at 86 kilos, the heaviest I’ve ever been. Through diet and walking, I’ve managed to get down to 74 kilos and my mini ho is to get to 70 kilos by the end of June! I haven’t been 70 kgs since September 2022. And then 2019 before that! Wish me luck!

LOL I came up with my mini goal while writing my post in NSV. After losing over 50 pounds thru mainly walking and yoga.....with some eleptical and weight work in the early days.....I know it's time to focus now on toning. My excess body fat is gone. I lost it slowly and patiently because weight COMES ON slowly too, we just forget. Starting tomorrow, June 1st, I am adding a free weights workout to my regular exercise I still enjoy walking and yoga and has been great to help me get out of Obesity. But it's time to reach my true potential My first mini goal is adding a free weights routine twice a week Not counting tomorrow. 😊
