nsk1951 Nice to hear from you. Hopefully your edema issues have been resolved. I am the lone Canadian (rural Alberta). Have been dealing with smoke issues all summer due to forest fires across the prairies.
Had a thunderstorm roll through Thursday evening and I noticed on Friday morning that our landline phones were not working. Trying to get in touch with our service provider but running into some issues. Customer service is horrendous. Have a feeling they may be out for awhile. Have notified family members and friends in case someone is trying to get in touch. Made sure they have my mobile number.
Enjoy the day.

nsk I live near Rochester NY. Whereabouts were you in Western NY?
It has been so much more humid here lately. It finally rained this evening.
Tried a little walk but it was uncomfortable weather-wise. Managed to see the most amazing lotus garden though.
Scale was not bad today but I hope it cools off outside so I can get more exercise.

That lotus garden must have been beautiful I'm sure.
Temperatures are still on the cooler side right now. We are supposed to heat up again later next week so will be able to try out the A/C then.
Got an email from a lady I met while touring. Nice to hear from her. She went on to Newfoundland after the tour we were on and thought it was a beautiful province also. May try and do a trip with her next year.

That is great to make a new friend! This is just one of the many lotus flowers. There were orchids in the greenhouses.
Did some wall painting and also looked at some art at an open house.

Absolutely stunning! That must have been so nice to see in person.
Grocery shopping tomorrow and I made an appointment to get my A1C level checked. Should know the results by Wednesday. Have to admit, I am a bit nervous about it. Hopefully the level is below 6 now.

Melody, I lived in various parts of Erie and Genesee Counties. My son went to college in Rochester.
Thanks Joy, for the edema well wishes. It's an ongoing battle that my doctors seem to worry over more than I do, at least now that I am into my 80's. Speaking of which, I saw the cutest ad on Facebook today of a T-shirt that showed a graphic of an angry bird (?) with the caption, as I recall, expressing:; Excuse my grumpiness, I'm going through the terrible 80's. … The humor is lost in the translation, but I got a good morning chuckle out of it and shared it for my friends to see.

good luck with all the medical woes and tests. Hubby had an ultrasound today to make sure his leg did not have a blood clot. Sometimes dealing with health issues is a full time job. So many appointments even if your health is good!
Errands and chores today. The heat is wearing me down. I would love a clear day about 30 degrees cooler!

So disappointed in my Walmart grocery delivery today! I ordered about a half dozen greeting cards for birthdays coming up over the next month .. really cute American Greeting Cards one-of-a-kinds .. and they arrived with NO mailing envelopes; just the cards themselves. I have to drive to a Walmart to return them. Kind of defeats the purpose of home delivery!
Now; i like these cards so much that I'm thinking maybe I ought to hang on to them and see if I can make envelopes for them from typewriter paper. Will see how it all shakes out.

nsk1951 That is so annoying when things like that happen. You probably could just make up the envelopes with paper. Good luck with that. I find it difficult to find nice cards at our local stores….usually end up ordering online.
Melody, good they are on top of your hubby's issues.
Got really good news with my A1C test today. Went to the pharmacy and they were able to do the testing onsite. Result was 5.8 which means I am out of prediabetes range (at least in accordance with Diabetes Canada). Still continuing to be mindful but I am so relieved. I'm sure it will come down a bit further with a few more pounds off. Pharmacist said I can now enjoy the odd sweet treat and occasional glass of wine. Glad that I went as I was thinking about putting it off for another month or so. Next testing will probably be in October when I see the doctor for annual check up.

yay for getting out of pre-diabetic!!!😀
There is probably some online video about making envelopes. Hard to believe they are selling cards without envelopes. But things are crazy lately.
Chair yoga, brief walk in humidity, more painting, more errands.

I am so relieved to be out of pre diabetic range. Took 9 months but I got there. Was definitely a wake up call though as I know I have to continue being mindful of what I am eating and keep my weight down.
Brother and sister-in-law are coming over tomorrow for a bbq after our lunch meet up. Just keeping it simple with burgers, salads and a pie for dessert. Have made a couple of salads this morning and just about finished the cream pie. Filling is cooling off before going into the shell. Very hot today and for the next few days at +30 C. A/C is running.
Melody, you are doing so well with your walking. I have been lazy in that regard since coming back from holiday so have to get back into it and make it a part of my daily routine again.
Enjoy the day.

sounds like a lovely bbq menu!
Managed an hour walk this morning and hope the weather will cool off soon so I can get more walks in. I need to improve my speed.
I have been noticing a young very pregnant woman walking our sidewalk lately. I admire her determination but I do not know how she does it in the heat. Seems like that baby will be arriving very soon.

Oh Ho, I don't think the cards were meant to be delivered without envelopes. It was most likely the grocery list picker that didn't include them, maybe because the envelopes were not behind the cards on the racks or as an oversight. I did try to make envelopes today but the typewriter paper isn't the right size to make em. I guess I will find a way to make it to the store to return them. But it is an inconvenience to me that is annoying.
BBQ sounds lovely. So does being able to go for an hour long walk. I can remember the 'good ole days' when daily walks were a part of my routine. Now a days, I count myself lucky that I can get around to toss the trash into the dumpster, get to the mail room, and around my apartment with the assistance of my rollater walker. Still, I count it a blessing every morning and every night that I can still get around on my own steam.

nsk1951 You have a very positive attitude which is good to hear. It is a blessing that you are able to get around with a bit of assistance. Too bad about the cards.
Sibling lunch was very nice. Continued visit with my brother and sister-in-law at our home was enjoyable. Had lots of laughs and everyone seemed to enjoy our simple bbq. Had a very nice day. Did have a very small portion of pie….was delicious!
Going to start my walking routine outside tomorrow morning. Time to get back to what I know I should be doing.

Another hot day today with temps going up to 30 C. Got out this morning before the heat and did a 20 minute walk. Feels good to be back into my routine.

finally a cooler day!! We walked in the woods for almost two hours, then collapsed. Was going to paint some more in the evening but no…
It is hard to stay active with a walker. Can you do chair exercises?

we are having a cool down for the next few days. Grateful for that.
I’m planning a big cook this weekend to have things ready for the freezer and refrigerator for the coming week. I had pork chops, ground beef, and bacon delivered today plus veggies for a zucchini recipe and I want baked beans.
Well, maybe I’ll divide those porkchops in half and put half of them on the freezer. I have 2 pounds of ground chuck and think I’ll make Salisbury steaks out of it (they freeze well).0 -
One more hot day today and then we are supposed to have a bit of a cool down with scattered showers.
Good idea Melody about the chair yoga. Can still get a work out without having to walk.

I started chair yoga a few months ago and it is helping me even though I walk. Lots of stretches and balancing. Even if I decide to try another type of yoga I think I will keep going with chair.
Gardening and painting again. Hoping to can some apricots tomorrow.

Off to our local Metis Crossing for brunch with daughter and family. Looking forward to it. Will take everyone out for their wildlife tour also. I'm sure the grandchildren will enjoy it.
Some areas got much needed rain yesterday but it was total miss for us. Some trees are dropping leaves. My Ohio Buckeye has turned all red and leaves will be dropping soon. Drought is having it's affect.

Another day of sunshine and some air quality problems. More watering necessary again. I think we had one rain in three weeks. I only water veggies and flowers.
I sincerely hope I never have to paint a basement again. It is a big project. But it really needed sprucing up. I can paint but we will need outside help for ceiling and lights.

Finally got some rain….3/4 of an inch last night. I used to do all the painting in the house until about 3 years ago. Ceilings were in need of a fresh coat and I was not up to the task so hired a local painter who came in and did such a good job of painting all the walls and ceilings. Find ceilings so difficult to do.
Had a wonderful time with daughter and family at brunch yesterday. Did the wildlife tour with them as well. Grandchildren especially enjoyed seeing the wildlife. We even spotted the male elk of the herd who is white with huge antlers. Wasn’t able to get a pic as he only stood for a few seconds.

I love the idea of a white elk!!!
We are getting quite a hazy sky from the wildfires. And no more rain in the forecast. Everything is turning brown. I hope the local farmers will not have problems. I am glad yoy got some rain!
I really feel uncomfortable exercising in the heat and poor air.0 -
Posted yesterday but I see it didn't go through.
Phone repairman came and our landline is now working. Cause of the outage was a lightening strike.
Off to the groomer this morning with our little dog.

yesterday I tried a different kind of walking— went to the Y and did alternate laps of fast and slow. The idea is to walk as fast as possible and then walk slower and slowly build up your time with both types. I think it went okay and at least I was out of the unhealthy air.

Your walking sounds interesting. Good plan to get out of the smokey air.
We are getting a few showers now and it is making it a bit too wet to do my walking outside so started up on the treadmill yesterday. Little dog got shaved right down so should be good for about 4 months.

I’m happy there is no smoke on the air this morning here in SW Missouri. I still keep up with the news from WNY as I have friends and relatives there; and they were still having smoke on the air from the Canadian fires. A reminder of how our planet is one body and what happens on one part has an effect on the rest; much like ourselves.
also very glad for an upcoming dentist appointment next week as it will be to have a casting done for upper teeth. I lost my upper teeth last October and have struggled with eating since. Maybe I’ll have teeth again by October! I cannot explain how much I miss eating raw vegetables and fruit, plus a nice piece of meat that you need to chew!0 -
today the smoke stretched from Buffalo to the Adirondacks and down to Corning. Strangely all was normal in the southeast of the state.
Yes, we are all interconnected and I wish more people would realize that!
Good luck with the dentist!

I think I’d like to make an oath to myself about eating. Cause I’ve just had an “ah-ha” moment about one piece of it.
Chew your food well before swallowing it!If you eat too fast or swallow chunks of food, you open yourself up to nausea

Hope everything works out in your upcoming dental appt.
Under smoky skies again. This is just something that we have to endure this summer. Being careful not to take the dogs out too much and have gone back to my treadmill walking for the next little while.
