My HRV chart for the last 4 weeks. Can see a gradual decline which corresponded to decreasing performance for me. That's why I decided to take a few days off last week amongst other things.

    From Garmin:
    About Your HRV Status Reading

HRV status offers an indication of how your autonomic nervous system is reacting to your environment, both physically and psychologically. Balanced HRV readings may indicate positive signs of health such as good training and recovery balance, greater cardiovascular fitness and more resilience to stress. Unbalanced, low or poor readings may be a sign of fatigue, greater recovery needs or increased stress, among other factors.

While variations in day-to-day HRV readings are normal, having a stable, consistent 7-day HRV average is the key to maintaining a balanced HRV status. Small, gradual increases in HRV can also help you maintain a balanced status and may be a sign of improving fitness. HRV readings that increase or decrease rapidly may indicate that you are training too hard and can cause an unbalanced HRV status.

In some cases, HRV status can be improved over time by improving your training and recovery balance, getting regular exercise, eating a healthy diet, reducing stress and adopting other healthy habits. HRV values can vary widely based on gender, age, fitness level and even from person to person.

My stress chart from last friday. The reason I brought this up was the nice mass of brown lines later in the day coinciding with time I was "on duty" managing a corporate event for my firm, even though it was supposed to be a "let your hair down" event. Interesting how this shows up. I think they use similar measurements for polygraphs. Sigh work….

    Nope

My new Garmin is just coming around to giving me an HRV score.

<humble brag> it says 40 and calls that excellent.

Sorry about that: My VO2 Max (according to Garmin) is 40. HRV 7d avg. is 28

You're doing great @CMorning99 . I really am glad that you decided to join this group. Keep up the good work.

@chris_in_cal I don't get the HRV stress number. Looks like you need to use the chest strap, which I do not do. If that's not correct, let me know how to do it.

@Zaxa2021 Congrats on your improvement in consistency!

Way to hang in there and get it done @angf0679 !

@yirara Sorry you had such a hard run today. At least you know why.

On Garmin they list the devices that are supported with wrist-only HRV.

It might be fun to get a cheap HR strap…I don't have one, but I think the lowest cost ones are only ten or twenty bucks.

@WarmJellyfish 17c here with a high of 27c predicted. Most of the US has been hammered the last two weeks with heat, we've been spared. Our big annual event "Comic-Con" was this weekend, and for the melting other people who traveled here it was glorious. 🌞

I think the issue with the tech and their ‘recommendations’ is that they are only as good as the algorithms they use. I noticed they tend to pick a certain time period for baseline and then make recommendations from that. And it rolls . I have watched fitbit tell me I was a slug to overtraining to slug during this injury phase and I think we are smarter than the tech. It does not seem to be able to look at long term and short term to put a solid program together which makes sense.
