I agree with you. You have to use what you have available. I’ve been debating about getting one of those 4 point BIA scales, like the Hume Body Pod. But other than spending money, I don’t think it will really tell me anything more than what my current scale and tape measure already tell me.

Welcome back!!
You smashed it in the last challenge. I’m confident you’ll find your groove.8 -

Thoughts at the start of this round:
This round will be challenging as it includes the U.S. holidays of Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. All are big foodie or party and dessert type holidays in the U.S. There are also multiple birthday celebrations in my family. In addition, there will be a lot of travel which is traditional in the fall for me as I try to avoid as many icy driving trips as possible in the winter months. There will be lots of doctor appointments away from home as well as Christmas and gift-giving shopping in this round. I will have to make sure I stay on top of my plan in every moment I can and to make the necessary corrections every time the scale goes up. We can’t control the ingredients in restaurant food so portion control will be key when away from home. I will again aim for a 10 pound loss this round. Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine. I am grateful for you all.

My lowest weight this week was on the 31st at 181.8 . Apparently it was a one day fluke . I feel like I’m chasing an illusion, a dream, but it was so close to the 170’s that I could almost taste it! . So I am 2 lbs up from that number, though I’ve made goal by the skin of my teeth. Since 181.8 I’ve survived the holiday BBQ and also my separate day of travel. I can deal with that I suppose. I’m just dreading the two day trip next week. This is the annual trip I usually go hog wild on. And two days of sitting and driving with lack of movement doesn’t help. It’s a huge college town upscale city. The restaurant choices are Amazing to a small town girl like me. I need to start getting a grip RIGHT NOW.

CURRENT WEEK:
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 15—09/06— 183.4 ✅ (Trend Weight: 184.9) I tried a new recipe last night (baked ham, cheese and pineapple sliders) that is not as low carb as I normally try to go. However, by carefully managing my day in advance, it fit into my calorie and carb allowance. Definitely on the highest end of my carbs, but otherwise macros were very good. I’m just so proud that I managed to eat the pineapple as I don’t normally eat any fruit. Cut up into small tidbits and combined with the other ingredients and I was able to do, even enjoy it! I’m showing a small loss today which makes me realize I can make it again as long as I always carefully plan those days. I kept seeing a similar recipe on facebook and just couldn’t take it anymore! I’m going to try to bank up some calories for my upcoming overnight 2 day medical appointment at the University Hospital downstate Mon & Tue. It will all be primarily restaurants and so much sitting. I’m trying to tackle it both before and after.

On of the reasons I have big swings I think from day to day is … getting up and weighing at 4am vs 7am LOL
Good reason for me to look at that trend or moving average.
Enjoy the surprises on the scale .. it is just a number! The next day it might be better the one thing for sure it will be new and possibly different.

Bicycle snow tires are definitely a thing. We have a neighbour who bikes everywhere all year long. His bicycle snow tires have little studs in them. Other than a real storm day, the roads around here are cleared pretty quickly. Our roads are also liberally applied with sand and salt.
This morning it was 10C out. We are definitely heading into autumn.

Really good day yesterday. I exercised (leg day), picked up the garbage in the park behind our house, vacuumed the house and walked the dog. I felt like I didn't sit down for any length of time until dinner. Went to bed at 10pm because I was just tired. It made me feel a bit like Dawn and how active she is. I really need to move more throughout the day. My legs are a speaking to me a bit this morning though.
Met my protein target.
Yesterday's success: Had a glass of wine after dinner. I've never measured a glass of wine. Last night, we had what I thought was a glass of wine left in a bottle from a few days ago (almost never happens in our house). I took out a measuring cup and poured it in only to realize that it was 250ml. I poured 125ml in a glass and the rest back in the bottle. Had I not measured it, I would have had it all.
The scale this morning was exactly the same as the day before we left on vacation. Still have a pound to go to get the 7 day trend to be the same as before vacation. But it feels good to see things stabilizing.
One more day to say goodbye to that red calorie IN.

Maybe I should change my profile name to weight_is_just_a_number?
I used to have my name & picture in my profile, but was getting some undesired targeting, so changed it several years ago. Maybe I need a new avatar? I've been the 'smiling sunshine' for a long time. I'm open to avatar suggestions.

Another metric to track? Jury is still out. But thought I'd share.
YouTube video on visceral fat estimation.
formulas used:
Women: 2.15 × Waist C − 3.63 × Proximal Thigh C + 1.46 × Age + 6.22 × BMI − 92.713
Men: 6 × Waist C − 4.41 × proximal thigh C + 1.19 × Age − 213.65
Or go to this websiteThe calculation is metric. The YouTube video description includes links to unit conversion calculators.
What is really strange to me is the result is in cm^2, which is area. Wouldn't it make sense that a measurement of visceral fat is in volume (cm^3) or weight?5 -
Hi : - )
I am Dawn. I will turn 65 this round. I have changed my eating habits over time. I basically eat half of the amount that I used to, and have limited eating Ribs to once every 3 months instead of once per week.

Day 15—09/06— 137.6 - I am dosing myself up with Dayquil and cough syrup just to get through these next 2 workdays. Drinking lot of water with lemon. I can't walk into the hospital sick on Monday morning and expect them to do the procedure. Hoping that this cold crests already. I am getting my nails done during the break on my split shift today, I will wear a mask so as not to infect her.
Day 16—09/07— 137.8 - So groggy this morning. Too much medicine to get through the workday (Dayquil etc.) and cough medicine an hour before my break and manicure so that I wouldn't cough. Neo Citran and Nyquil to be able to go to sleep without a runny nose and coughing. I haven't had much appetite, but ate an entire belle pepper while at work and half of an apple. I had 2 dinners last night. My belly was hungry even though I didn't feel like eating. I had some of my own borscht from my freezer, and my own version of chicken biryani from my freezer. Tomorrow morning I will have to dose up on cough syrup and Dayquil again, so that they don't turn me away from my foot procedure at the hospital. No walking or driving after the procedure. I will putter around gently, or maybe just go to bed : - )

I will be in Toronto for 4 days, originally is was going to be 5 days, but I will get to see much of my family and a few friends and then head to the Kawarthas. Next year I am planning on driving across instead of flying, stopping in Toronto, Montreal, a friend's place in New Brunswick, and spend my birthday in PEI. Or maybe I will fly to Toronto and rent a car. We'll see, it is a year away, I may change my mind 😅

Good Morning, Everybody! Hope you are having a restful weekend!
@age_is_just_a_number , I approve of WEIGHT is just a number. I used to have a rainbow with a smiling face on my profile the first time I was on MFP. When I came back, it was gone because the new owners had gotten rid of some of the page options which I still don't understand to this day. But I still like the idea of a rainbow.
@bteri107 , I agree....I can't wait till Wednesday!
@Grandma16grandkids , I think you are doing terrific! Although we measure by quarters, I prefer to look at the big picture. Its 28 pounds since I started a year ago. But all do what works for us.
Day 15—09/06— 162.2 - Started today with a granola bar. Have to hit the grocery store later...no milk and need salad fixings. I was just getting used to the cooler weather. I need fall now. Goal is the same....maybe THIS week will be the charm.
Day 16—09/07— 162.2 - Started the day with blueberry yogurt and a roll. I could have skipped the roll, but it's ok. Not sure what the rest of the day holds. Yesterday my daughter was at my ex's and they fired up the grill so I was invited to lunch. Had a hot dog and tomato slices. And I was satisfied even though they had cheeseburgers too. So I was a good girl... lol!

@age_is_just_a_number It's probably true, except for the fun factor. I see you like digging into the numbers, so maybe it would be fun? My old scale also measures body fat percentage. Mine varies so little over time that it I rarely look at that graph. I do like that it is wireless, but I probably wouldn't upgrade to one of those newer scales either.
EDIT: EEK, that body pod is expensive. That kills the fun-factor for me, LOL.
5 -
I had company yesterday, so the foods were a bit richer. Back to normal today. I'll probably do spin bike/yoga. I'm going to try to get on the spin bike 2x/week from now on. This is when I see the best gains in VO2Max.
6 -
@age_is_just_a_number You lost me halfway through that mathematical formula! Thank goodness my scale gives me that information. I don't know how exactly correct it may be, but just like the scale itself, I can track from day to day for changes. The Visceral fat numbers don't change quickly for me, but they do change over time. Mine actually finally lowered back down by one point today!

CURRENT WEEK:
Day 15—183.4 ✅ (Trend Weight: 184.9) I tried a new recipe last night (baked ham, cheese and pineapple sliders) that is not as low carb as I normally try to go.
🐝🐝🐝🐝 Day 16—09/07—182.6 ✅ (Trend Weight – 184.7) Another compliant day yesterday as I continue to run as far away from the bully September 4th (the scale) as possible. That mean old scale jumped up several times this round into very shark-infested territory. It was primarily due to the holiday BBQ and the travel day. That’s behind me now and I managed to end 3 lbs down this round. There will be more travel coming up this week which includes an overnight and a ton of being stationary and sitting, sitting, sitting. I won’t be able to manage the ingredients in my restaurant foods completely, but I can still manage the portions. I must learn to travel smarter since I’m required to do much more of it than I like, especially this time of year until January 1st when it will slow down somewhat until Spring.
Day 17—09/08—I will weigh before I leave for trip.
Day 18—09/09— No Weight while out of town.

Day 15—09/06—147.2 Classic case of what happens when I don’t have time to cook healthier meals. Between work and home renovations, dinner has been quick & easy options including lots of fast food. Add in the pain in my right hip…. waaaah! Excuses, excuses.
Day 16—09/07—146.4 Very busy day yesterday, but I managed to cook a healthy dinner and food choices overall were much, much better. Let’s hope I can stay consistent.

Hi. I’m an unretired (by choice) senior from central B.C., Canada. Back for another round. Am an absolute turtle at losing and a hare at backsliding! This round my hope it to hang on to each loss then move down from there. Put an end to this eternal yo-yoing.

@dawnbgethealthy I hope you are feeling better soon and that you foot surgery goes well.
@deepwoodslady Love your bully and shark analogies.
You must have a fancy scale that gives you visceral fat.
@bteri107 You CAN be consistent!
@plantpowered Yes! I would find that fun. I've already got spreadsheets for weight, body fat vs lean mass, inches and I just added visceral fat. At the end of the day, I just don't like spending money when I don't see the value.
@Crochetluvr It is so great that you have a good relationship with your Ex.

🎯 Started strong and then just got back into the maintain mode. Not complaining since it is lower than my last 209-211 holding pattern. But really want to strive to feeling more comfortable in a bathing suit before cruising in the South Pacific in March. Pep Talk Time! 6 months … half a year! Plenty of time to lose 20-30 pounds if I focus on 5 lbs per month … basically a pound a week. Dedicate the next 24 weeks to breaking through those mental barriers and pushing the holding pattern lower and lower. Next month’s goal … <2039/1: 209.8 / 208.4 - Yikes! Strong & Fit class
