titus2cat, spaetzels are a starchy side dish, like any thing made of wheat and boiled. I’ve used them in soup., buttered and served right from boiling, and also fried in butter.
You can buy dried ones at some supermarkets and they are mostly treated like an egg noodle. Of course, that’s what they really ate, a version of a fresh egg noodle/pasta.

I make them, really, only during the early fall during a German celebratory month called Ocktoberfest, to remember the culture that means a lot to me. Thusly, I usually have sausage OR schnitzel and red cabbage with theses noodles. .
this year, while I bought a cabbage to make that dish, I opened a jar of sauerkraut and had a 1/4 cup instead; just got started cooking too late that day.

More Thanksgiving prep today so pretty busy. Nsk nice to have those traditions that a lot of times is centred around different food dishes.

Our postal system is such a mess and needs some major restructuring. Strike is ongoing with no end in sight.
No treadmill today but will get back in the groove tomorrow.

Carol, been thinking about you. Hope things have improved with your husband.

started laundry yesterday and am continuing that project today. It’ll probably extend into tomorrow. Then I’ll be set for another couple of months! I have so much stock in anything washed in a clothes washing machine that I don’t wash the laundry often as a way of forcing myself to rotate the stuff so everything wears evenly.

hope everyone’s worries and troubles improve And that the good lord provides the means to bear up under those burdens.

I gave the new up-walker a second chance instead of sending it back. After fooling around with the heights of the complements I find it ok even with my compromised hands. There are other models and manufacturers, price points available; now that I have been looking into it more deeply. However, except for a few “could be better or easier” items it’s perfectly serviceable. My son is telling me not to settle if I can find something that is overall better. Thus I am not taking it out of my apartment in case I do send it back. Don’t want to dirty up any parts of it.

day5. Hiking 2 hours. There is nothing like a “moderate” rocks and roots hike in the Adirondacks. Amazed I am still surviving.

You are all doing so well with your exercise programs. Well done!

    Treadmill 25 minutes.

Went into the lab today and had bloodwork done along with heart test. Will probably get results of the bloodwork in a couple of days. For some reason I am nervous about the A1C level. it was 5.8 at the end of July so should be good as I am still pretty vigilant about my sugar intake. Will see what happens.

Stopped at the grocery store in our small town and they had one sour head cabbage left on the shelf so picked that up to make cabbage rolls. When we were grocery shopping last week, the larger grocery store further away from us didn't have any. They are usually about $12 each. This one was $22….ridiculous….but I bought it. Will make them tomorrow.

Had my annual wellness check-up today. I’m so impressed with my nurse practitioner – she spent 30 minutes talking with me about everything. At the end, she told me I was doing well (even though I had lost no weight, at least I hadn’t gained any!) Yay! A win!
