titus2cat, spaetzels are a starchy side dish, like any thing made of wheat and boiled. I’ve used them in soup., buttered and served right from boiling, and also fried in butter.
You can buy dried ones at some supermarkets and they are mostly treated like an egg noodle. Of course, that’s what they really ate, a version of a fresh egg noodle/pasta.

I make them, really, only during the early fall during a German celebratory month called Ocktoberfest, to remember the culture that means a lot to me. Thusly, I usually have sausage OR schnitzel and red cabbage with theses noodles. .
this year, while I bought a cabbage to make that dish, I opened a jar of sauerkraut and had a 1/4 cup instead; just got started cooking too late that day.

More Thanksgiving prep today so pretty busy. Nsk nice to have those traditions that a lot of times is centred around different food dishes.

Our postal system is such a mess and needs some major restructuring. Strike is ongoing with no end in sight.
No treadmill today but will get back in the groove tomorrow.

Carol, been thinking about you. Hope things have improved with your husband.

started laundry yesterday and am continuing that project today. It’ll probably extend into tomorrow. Then I’ll be set for another couple of months! I have so much stock in anything washed in a clothes washing machine that I don’t wash the laundry often as a way of forcing myself to rotate the stuff so everything wears evenly.

hope everyone’s worries and troubles improve And that the good lord provides the means to bear up under those burdens.

I gave the new up-walker a second chance instead of sending it back. After fooling around with the heights of the complements I find it ok even with my compromised hands. There are other models and manufacturers, price points available; now that I have been looking into it more deeply. However, except for a few “could be better or easier” items it’s perfectly serviceable. My son is telling me not to settle if I can find something that is overall better. Thus I am not taking it out of my apartment in case I do send it back. Don’t want to dirty up any parts of it.

day5. Hiking 2 hours. There is nothing like a “moderate” rocks and roots hike in the Adirondacks. Amazed I am still surviving.

You are all doing so well with your exercise programs. Well done!

    Treadmill 25 minutes.

Went into the lab today and had bloodwork done along with heart test. Will probably get results of the bloodwork in a couple of days. For some reason I am nervous about the A1C level. it was 5.8 at the end of July so should be good as I am still pretty vigilant about my sugar intake. Will see what happens.

Stopped at the grocery store in our small town and they had one sour head cabbage left on the shelf so picked that up to make cabbage rolls. When we were grocery shopping last week, the larger grocery store further away from us didn't have any. They are usually about $12 each. This one was $22….ridiculous….but I bought it. Will make them tomorrow.

Had my annual wellness check-up today. I’m so impressed with my nurse practitioner – she spent 30 minutes talking with me about everything. At the end, she told me I was doing well (even though I had lost no weight, at least I hadn’t gained any!) Yay! A win!

That is a lot of money for cabbage.

Hope to canoe a bit in the morning before rain sets in

Got my blood work results and everything looks good to me but will be getting a phone consult with doctor on Friday. A1C was 5.8 so happy about that. Think with abit more weight loss it may come down more. Weight is still staying the same right now. Will try not to overindulge through Thanksgiving.

    Treadmill 25 minutes.

Joy, I've never seen head of sour cabbage for sale. My mom used to make them for winter use. As a coincidence, I have cabbage rolls on my meal plan as well. I had a head of green cabbage delivered with my grocery order today just for that purpose! Do you use meat and rice in your filling?

The German Red Cabbage I made earlier this week turned out great. I've enjoyed some each day since I made it and it will be gone tomorrow. However, tomorrow I'm making cube steak in gravy with mashed potato and French Cut String Beans. I almost didn't buy the meat because it has risen so high in price. I paid $9.97 per pound for it! That dish better come out real good.

Today I took the new up-walker (upright rollator) for a walk outside. That settles the question of keeping it or not because now the wheels have hit dirty pavement, it's definitely a keeper.

nsk with the sour cabbage I use rice mixed with spices and bacon, onion. When I make ones with green cabbage, I use rice with ground beef. I have frozen homemade spaghetti sauce that goes over both to cook. Nice that the upright rollator seems to be working for you.

No treadmill today as spent most of the morning rolling up my cabbage rolls. Ended up that I was short of filling so took awhile to get more made. I wasn’t going to throw out any of my sour head. The sour head was very good….lots of nice large leaves.

    Treadmill 25 minutes.

    Lovely pic, Melody.

Quiet day today. Got the turkey in the fridge to thaw. It's a small 10 lb one and will have it along with a ham. Got most of the big chores for Thanksgiving done. Have 2 small pumpkins that I need to cut up and steam yet for a pie. Pastry is in the freezer so will do that on Saturday. Everyone is coming on Sunday and we are expecting our first snowfall. Hopefully the highways will be ok for travel. Not much is expected in our area for snowfall so will see what happens.

Joy, is it Canada Thanksgiving on 10/13 this year, or is it called a different name. At any rate, I hope you and your guests really enjoy the festivities and have safe travels. You are doing a lot of work with all that food you are making. I hope when everyone is sitting around the table you will know that they appreciate your efforts. I know you will be packing in lots of love and memories into the dishes you are making.

Even though my 'new' home is in the same climate zone as my 'old' one, we are much warmer here than there until hard winter time. Thus, I am enjoying warmish days and nights in the 50's while my sister is expecting frost tonight!
