  • Great idea, Yari. Chug Chug Chugalog....drink that H2o I need to do that today. I am really struggling with getting in my 8 oz. So here I go .... singing .... CHUG CHUG CHUG A LOG ......:drinker: :drinker:
  • Hi girls!

I've uploaded my birthday pic with my twin brother Nathan. We turned 44 on 4/4, neat huh! Anyway, while I don't particularly like my pic, I like the whole pic of us...we don't have very many and this day was particularly nice which is why this is my favortie picture.

Cindy - Sorry to hear about the dog situation, I think that is ridiculous! I agree with Julie about the mace or something to protect yourself. Good for getting your walking in though and this whole problem you didn't loose your focus, YAHOO!!!

Julie - My goal for today is the same at Yari's. I need to drink water and make sure I get my fill. Here is a link for veggie Korma, I thought it would be easier than typing it. It is one of my favorite dishes of all time. http://www.indianfoodforever.com/hyderabadi/vegetable-nilgiri-korma.html

I got my hair done and it looks pretty good I think. I wanted something funner because I was feeling dull. So I got chunkier highlights and cut a little shorter.

Hazel - thanks so much for the PM about Matt. He said to tell you that was "nice". You are doing great in your goals, don't let little things discourage you, plus bible study, that's great!

Yari - I'm so glad you came over. I was really missing you!! Is the 200 sit-up challenge something you and your sister made up? if not, where did you find it?

For Matt today, we went shopping and opened up his first checking account. I need to help him with learning all that stuff before he ships out in Sept. We then went to McD's where I ate some french fries (oops) and the apples/grapes/yogurt snack. I didn't eat the walnuts because of my allergies. It was 50/50 good for me. :embarassed:

During our shopping trip, I bought a book entitled "The Gospel of Food: Everything You Think You Know about Food is Wrong" by Barry Glassner. I can't wait to read it. I'll let you all know about it when I'm finished, hopefully it is interesting and informative...LOL, I'm not being sarcastic either.

    Anyway, I'll check back later!
    Lucy
  • Lucy, nice picture of you and your brother. I can see the love that you share that is so very special.

Think spring is in the air with us girls having to have our hair fixed for spring. I had mine done last week and boy, does it feel good. No more gray. oops. I got is with highlights and it looks very good plus wearing my hair slightly differently styled with some whispy bangs. Like it for now.

Drink water....that's what I need to do .... now. My friend won't be able to meet me at the pool and DH is home. My schedule feels awkward right now. What to do. What to do. Think I will go and drink some water.

    TTFN.

    Hey HEETers,

Bebe, glad you are getting some calcium. It is *really* important Salad for breakfast? Interesting. I've never thought of it. I wouldn't be able to handle a ceasar salad that early buy maybe something else. I'm gonna have to think on it now!

Yari, sorry to hear you gained so much back but with the way you work out I'm sure it will come off again real soon! Way to go for Chug A Lugging!

Hazel, I hope you got your water goal in today. Keep on chugging. Add some lime juice or lemon juice, maybe that will help. What about some tea? Decaf, no sugar of course, but green tea is fine and very healthy!

Cindy, sorry things are so crazy for you right now. Slow down and focus so you can get yourself back on track and you can accomplish all your daily tasks.

Lucy, great pictures! I think your brother is cute! And the background...Michigan all the way. I could almost smell it! Tell me what you think of that book when you're done. I'm intrigued. Also, I couldn't wait for your description of Korma so I researched it. Indian...lots and lots of ingredients and something I haven't mastered yet. I like *curry* type dishes but haven't been able to create anything at home that I would consider *good*.

HEETERS! I need some new breakfast ideas. I eat my egg every morning because I need the protein but I'm kind of getting bored. I don't do Protein bars or shakes so what can you throw out my way that has a lean protein? I'm gonna do some Egg Muffins with a slice of cheese and tomato for a while and see how long that works but I need something else to fall back on. Any ideas? I have plenty of lean pork and chicken...whatcha got??

Well, that's about it for now...I'll check back a little later...

    Julie
  • Julie, check out the link I posted earlier, the recipes aren't as hard to follow as they seem. I don't grind the whole seeds and stuff if I don't have to, I just buy them already crushed or ground or whatever. I just love Indian food and once even made it for our Easter dinner...it was great! I was encouraged when I found a store that sells nothing but Indian food ingredients so I'm not spending a whole lot of $$ either. Anyway, because we are into healthy foods, Indian food is VERY healthy, another reason why I like it so much I guess.

I think I got gyped in the looks department as far as twins are concerend. Nathan is good looking and thin too, why me???

 Hi Heeters, Things are great with me! I hope you all can say the very same! I did my 3 mile watp before lunch. I think I'm going to up my outside walk to 3 miles a day starting tonight. I love exercise! So has everyone been drinking their water today? How about eating your fruits and veggies? I plan my meals first thing in the morning so I can be sure I'm adding and eating all the healthy things I need to eat. Julie, Have you tried Jennie-o breakfast turkey sausage? I love this stuff. Hey guys, have you tried any new foods lately? I bought an avacado last night that I'm going to slice up to try with turkey taco salad. I also bought some Fage greek style yogurt. I'm going to mix some triple berry blend berries into it for tonights snack. I love yogurt and eat it every day. Many people on mfp seem to think Fage is super yummy . We shall see. That darn dog is still looming. If I have to go walking without dh again I'm carrying a baseball bat. Dh is feeling better and I don't seem to be catching it . I'm all ready for Easter now. Dd 10 still believes in the Easter Bunny so I do it up BIG! Ya know what, I'm going to be 36 in a little over a week and I still love coloring eggs at Easter. :blushing: I hope everyone is having a great day! I'll be back later on, Cindy
  • Julie - Also, this website I posted for Indian food has some breakfast ideas. I think I'm going to try some soon. Let me know if you do.
  • Julie - have you tried baked eggs?
In a custard cup you put in

    1/4 t butter,
    1 slice thin deli ham,
    1 egg,
    sprinkle cheese over top
Put cup in pan with hot water about 1/4 to 1/2 way up the custard cup. Bake in hot water bath for about 15 min. or until you like it. I think its on 350.
Top with fresh chives when you take it out. It is good and pretty easy. They also keep pretty well so baking in morning and taking to work for later has worked well for me too.

I will let you know about that book too.

Cindy - congrats on getting all of your walking done. I tried Fage for the first time yesterday with some honey and it was awesome. I was planning purchasing some on my next shopping trip. I love avocado by itself and with anything. Have you tried artichokes? those are a fav too and easy to make. I just trim them and then steam them. Yummo.

I haven't yet decided on an easter dinner yet. Not sure what we are going to do.

Welp, I think I've broken my record for number of posts in a day. I'll probably be back later too!

Lucy, I have never had an artichoke. What does it taste like? I like most veggies. I want to start trying 1 new thing a week. Cindy
  • Cindy - you have to try an artichoke then. I'm not sure how to say it tastes it is unique. But very yummy. Don't try the frozen or canned or anything though, those taste way different than fresh. The artichoke is actually the flower bud of a thorn plant! (just some trivia) I can't wait for you to try it and let me know what you think.

To prep, you want to trim the bottom stem off so it will sit flat. Trim off the thorny points so you don't poke yourself when you are eating. Put in a pot of water about 1/4 to 1/2 way up and bring to boil, once boiling, turn down to simmer and cover. It usually takes about 20 min or so to be finished but doneness depends on your own taste so you will have to experiment with it. But it is totally worth the effort and experimenting.

To eat, you would take off a leaf and scrap along your bottom teeth. The bigger the leaf the more you get. Once you reach the choke part, which you can't miss, they are like little hairs that will choke you if you swollow them. You need to cut that out, which takes practice, and then eat the heart, which is the best part. I dip in melted butter and my son loves to dip in a little mayo, but not alot.

I'm want to refer my directions to Julie though because I think she has a better handle on techniques. but this is pretty much how I do it and I've never been disappointed.

Let me know what you think!

Lucy, Thanks for the info. I just don't know ,your description made me sort of queasy. :embarassed: I'll need to be brave to try them. Cindy
  • LOL - have someone else do the prep for you, then all you do is eat...trust me, they are good. It's cool though that you want to try 1 new one a week. I want to do that with fruit and fish. I'm not a big fish fan.

OMG...you guys! I have the FUNNIEST story about artichokes! This goes back to DH and mine internet days. I knew it was one of his favorite foods but I had never eaten or cooked them fresh so I wanted to figure out how to do it before he got here. I knew what to look for as far as *freshness* and color and found some beautiful ones in the grocery so I bought two. I cooked them according to the directions I had at the time and melted me a little bowl of butter to dip them in. Let me tell you. I don't know what I did or how I did it but I had artichoke leaves, hearts, pieces parts, you name it, all over myself and all over the kitchen. I ended up with the base, which I called a Sea Urchin looking thing and still couldn't figure out what part to eat and what part to discard. All I kept asking was "Where's the Meat???" Lucy, I swear, it was a true Lucy Riccardo moment! I was a mess and so was my entire kitchen!

So, Cindy, I can't tell you what a fresh artichoke tastes like. I was TOTALLY unsuccessful in my adventure and haven't attempted it since. I stick to the canned stuff!   Way to go on trying something new every week. You will make some really good discoveries and maybe even have a few fun adventures as well!

I also tried the Fage. Saw a thread on this site so thought I'd try it. I was really bummed that I didn't care for it but it's the whole yogurt/texture thing for me.

Cindy, my store doesn't sell Jennie-O products. At least not that I've seen. I'll look harder but I've looked for certain things in the past and couldn't find what I was looking for. :frown:
  • Julie -   rotf

What a GREAT story! They are so worth the effort though!!! Try again!!! You are toooo funny.

What a Blast from the past!!   That is one our favorite stories to re-tell each other. I was cooking, chopping, eating (well, sort of!  ) and kept coming back here to instant message him. He kept trying to walk me through it but I was NOT getting it! Seriously, I'm laughing so hard right now I have tears in my eyes!! That was escapade was SOOO funny!!! Thanks for the great laugh!

    You too Julie!

*I'm stomping my feet and having a fit*

Go get some tissue, settle down, make your plans for fresh artichokes for next weeks supper....DH will love you for it....

Ok...I think I'm in control....yes...now that it's come up again and DH is actually here...I will buy some fresh ones and try again. At least he can educate me!

You know...I'm still a pretty good cook but there's nothing like an artichoke to put you in your place! Buwahahahahahaha!!!

Lucy, I have said a hundred times...if there were ever to be a video in my house...THAT would have been the day! The sheer and utter confustion on my face would have been worth a million bucks! And the Sea Urchin??? OMG! I was utterly dumbfounded!

Cindy, don't be afraid!! I'm gonna re-try. I'll even take step by step pictures and post them if you want...now that I know how to post pictures!

  • Goodie!!! I can't wait to see the step-by-step pictures...but now I hope you actually like them. I would hate for you to go thru all this effort and then not like them...what am I saying! Of course you will like them!

    LOL

    Lucy
  • I will be waiting for the pictures and step by step instructions too. I have a friend who love them and yet I don't know what they taste like either. I see her eating them for lunch and it looks yummy but then???

Lucy, I went to that Indian site and am curious to try some recipes too. I know some Indian people from when i used to work and I used to be so interested in their lunches. Looked so healthy and they all so SKINNY!

No pool today. Went to find an outfit for Easter Sunday. Didn't find what I went to look for but did find 2 cute tops at KOHLS and being senior day, got additonal 15 % discount so i liked that. It's been a while since I bought anything thinking I am going to lose weight and inches. I am down one size kinda because I remember being this size before. LOL. Now when I go down another size, that will get me excited.

Struggling wtih the water but night is not over yet. TTFN.

Oh Shoot Hazel!! I've got a $10 Gift Card for Kohl's that came in the mail. It expires Saturday. I'd mail it if I thought it would get to you in time but I know at this point it wouldn't!! :frown: I'm not ready to buy any new clothes yet - even with a $10 savings. I have enough in my closet to hold me over for a while as I *lose* weight and/or inches. I should run over to the neighbor. She has a daughter that might shop there. Hate to see good money go down the tubes! Sorry you didn't find your Easter outfit but congrats on buying something in a smaller size!

Lucy, thanks for the Baked Egg recipe. I'm definitely going to try it this weekend. When I was in my teens I had some friends down the street that were from Turkey (I think???) and they used to cook this chicken dish almost every night. As soon as you walked up to the house you could smell the spices and once you got inside, the whole house smelled the same way, to the point of *reeking* but in a good way (to me). I never did find out the recipe but whatever it was, it was amazing. One of these days, I will find it. Often times I *cook* by my nose because my palet is so limited. I don't eat garlic but I know how to use it based on my nose. I don't like onions much (unless they're carmelized) but my nose knows. There are so many things I don't personally eat, but can cook by smell. People don't believe me but it's the truth. Even DH who will eat anything wonders how I do it. Remember when I said earlier about "smelling Michigan"? My nose has memory. That's the best way I can describe it. Smells trigger many memories for me and once I *find* a smell, I rarely forget it. I'll check out the Indian site you posted and see what I can come up with. I'm sure I'll find something that's tasty and maybe come across the spices from that Chicken dish I loved so much!

Bebe...yes...I got your information. Thank you for sharing! I have it right here in front of me and will add it to my list then send it to Lucy. Where are you by the way? Are you being good? Eating Ceasar Salad?

Lucy...we can't forget...we have a Meet and Greet to plan and need to let these ladies know about it...

Before *we* came to this site we had agreed that we would meet next year, maybe summer time 2010. We haven't decided on a place or time but it was a goal of sorts that we had made. My idea was to put $1 in a jar for every pound we lost to help cover the costs. Then I upped the ante to $3 for every pound (at least for myself). Reason being, a single dollar has little to no value these days (a candy bar can cost up to a buck these days...get my drift???) What we are doing has *value*, it takes *work* hence the $3 per pound. At any rate...regardless of what you contribute, we should plan our trip. Is anybody interested? A HEETer Meet-n-Greet??? Cindy and Hazel...you two are in Texas, not sure of your proximity but maybe you could hook up somewhere and meet the group? We tossed around some ideas that would be halfway between us...me in Florida, Lucy in Michigan, Bebe in the Bahama's (if she got here I could help fund getting her the rest of the way to *where-ever.) Yari, I'm not sure you even knew about this...but she's in NYC....Tennessee and the Carolina's were thrown around. Still nothing in stone...Is anyonoe else interested? Is this anything anyone is interested in? I just wanted to throw it out there because it was on my mind...

Speaking of my mind...I'm getting tired...it's past my bedtime...I hope you all have a great night! I'll *see* you all in the morning!

I would LOVE to get together with all my Heeter pals! This is a great idea! I just finished my Fage. I stirred in some berries and sprinkled some splenda in. It was very yummy and oh so filling. I am however wondering if I'll buy it again. My 6 oz tub cost $1.99. It is a one serving size yogurt for $1.99. It was yummy though. Dh is working late. He is a contractor and is with a customer at Lowe's picking out items for her bathroom remodel. We will walk our 3 miles tonight when he gets back. I had a great day today. I hope everyone else did too. Nighty night friends. Cindy
  • Hi HEETers!

    I wanted to say goodnight.

Julie - I had a good time today, esp hearing your story. I used to live in some apartments where a family from Pakistan lived right across the hallway and that hallway smelled all the time. I think it was like the family you mentioned. My mouth would salivate when I would come home and smell the smell. One day, after my mentioning many, many times how much I loved the smell, the wife surprised me with a meal she made just for me. It came in a beautiful, white porcelain dish. I didn't even want to touch it, it was so delicate looking. When I took the lid off, the best smell I have ever smelled came out of it. I had a hard time identifying some of the ingredients, especially the meat because the bones were so small, I had never seen anything like it before. Matt and I ate it all in one sitting and I could have licked the dish, honestly the best thing I had tasted to that day. When I was returning the dish a few days later, she didn't want to tell me what the meat was because she thought I wouldn't like it. I finally told her it wouldn't bother me to know and she then told me it was goat. I was flabbergasted. But that is when I started trying lamb and really exploring Indian cuisine. If you figure out that chicken recipe I would love to try it. I have like 3 different Indian cookbooks, I collect them. Maybe if you tell me some of the ingredients I can look thru my books for something that matches.

People always say I'm a good cook and I say I am just good at following recipes. I'm not good at putting tastes together. For some reason I just am unable to imagine things together so I am not good at making up my own recipes. My smeller is the same. But I know what sounds good when I look at a recipe so I know when I make it I will like it. If it wasn't for my allergies, I would probably eat or try just about anything at least once. I'm not picky at all. Anyway, I'm not sure if that makes sense but ohwell. :ohwell:

Also Julie, I totally understand the smell about Michigan. How smell can remind you of things, for me its places or what I was doing at a particular time.

Hazel - I look forward to you trying some of those recipes too and sharing your thoughts on them.

I have read a chapter in that book I mentioned buying earlier today and one of the things it said about Americans is that we have literally lost our "joy" when eating. There were some surveys the author mentioned that said that we as Americans were "afraid" of food, because we have been taught to fear what we eat and what it can do to our health...therefore we have lost the joy that other countries still have. I agree with this. I associate guilt with food and I think this sabotages my health. gosh, all that from one chapter...funny. I'll let you know what I get from the next chapter!

I agree also about our meet and greet. I am in completely!

Cindy - I know that Fage is very expensive so it would be hard to purchase all the time. I was shocked when I saw the price tag! Almost worth the price, but my pocketbook won't support the purchase on a regular basis...bummer.

Hello to Bebe and Yari and Kath and Toni, are they still with us? Kath and Toni I mean?

    Good night my friends,

    Lucy
  • Good evening. Such great reading on all posts.

I am not a very good cook. i enjoy eating more than cooking. LOL. Not fond of goat, but like lamb. I find goat a bit too "gamey" for my tastes or smell. Not very familiar with a lot of your foods as I was not raised on dairy food or pasta so that is not a favorite on my list.

On this healthy lifestyle, it is a very interesting adventure for me. My DH is also on a change into the more healthy lifestyle as well so this is going to be easier than I thought it would. Just need to be more creative in my meals as since I am retired now, he doesn't spend as much time in the kitchen. Guess he feels it is his turn to be waited on. I think he is right about that. With ya'll's help, I think this might be accomplished.

He doesn't like Indian food as we had a bad first experience a very long time ago. There are some dishes that I have tasted and like but need to experiment with more. I do know some people from India but don't know why they don't like to share their knowledge on the foods they prepare. Very vague about it when I inquire.

One thing I know I like is their bread, but forgot the name of it. And there is a cucumber salad they make with a yogurt sauce that is delicious. I love cucumbers and perhaps that is why I like it so well.

Went to the doctor today and his nurse tells me she has lost 30 lbs since January. I was impressed because I am having such a difficult time losing more than the 2 lbs per week. And that is not very consistent. But she did mention she has cut out her bread and pasta altogether and watching fat intake. I love bread but can do without the pasta.

My sister has joined weight watchers and tells me she has a 3.3 lb loss on her first weigh in. I think that is great. She mentioned some of her new habits and of her wheat pasta she is using now that you have mentioned. I haven't looked for any as I am not fond of pasta. I did buy me a loaf of wheat bread but not too fond of that. Prefer the more high calorie type of bread.   But, am not eating any of that white bread that my DH bought a couple of weeks ago. It is in my freezer and may soon get thrown out if he doesn't eat it.

What kind of snack items do you all eat? I bought myself some yogurt "yoplait" light today.

Tomorrow is another day. I have not yet drank all my water today. I feel like I am floating away.:grumble: :frown:

Regarding summer of 2010. Sounds like a great plan, however, I cannot commit to it right now. With my DD getting married in January, that is going to take major funds. Plus, I would like to give her a second reception in Hawaii as they will be going there for their honeymoon and majority of my family lives there and won't be able to attend her wedding here in Dallas. That's the plan but not sure that will be happening yet. The reception in Hawaii, that is.

Keep me informed, however, in case I can swing it. I would  to meet all of you and get together. That sounds like such a sweet time.

Time to sign out and so I will say nighty nite for now. Until tomorrow, God bless you all.
