It’s supposed to be a very nice day here in NYC…I signed up for a spinning class for my trip to the gym…should be interesting, I haven’t taken a spinning class in a very long time…I am down two pounds since Monday, I guess all the working out and eating well worked LOL…I am hoping to lose another 1 pound by Saturday

Cindy~~that’s greek yogurt right…I usually go to Trader Joe’s and get a huge tub of it..I mix in some Agave syrup, any fruit and the Trader Joe’s brand granola and it is just awesome!!!!!

Good morning everyone, It's super windy here in TX today! :grumble: Not much can be done outside until this wind dies down. I can't believe this week is almost over. Time flies hugh? Yari, Fage is Greek yogurt. We don't have a Trader Joe's here . I so wish we did. I am envious of your spinning class. I always wanted to try that. Have fun! Congrats on your loss. Julie, I think smells remind us all of memories. There is a honeysuckle vine at a house on our walk and let me tell you when we pass that vine BOOM I'm 4 again playing on my porch swing by our honeysuckle. Hey guys, lets make today a great one! Lucy, Yari ... good morning to you. And, to all others that follow.
Yari, what is "spinners"? Is it some kind of exercise? Congratulations on the weight loss. I can tell you are working on it and succeeding. You go, girl! Greek yogurt? Sounds like a mystery to me alright. I can barely do regular yoplait yogurt. LOL. But I have learned to add granola cereal or other cereals to yogurt and find that I like that. Something new for me.
That's what is so nice about this site. We all are in one mind focused on healthy eating and exercise and can learn from each other.
I have been given a different dosage on my Byetta med and I am struggling a little this morning with a little nausea but fighting it and keeping my breakfast down so far. Think I need to get back to bed. Ha. I don't know what happened with the weather. I thought it was supposed to be warm today but why am I still feeling so cold? I think that bed is calling me back to it. LOL.
3 glasses of H2o thus far. Hooray! Hope this keeps up. I was short 1 glass yesterday. Today is another day to strive for that goal. It is hard to think exercise when I don't feel so good. Maybe later today.0 -
Morning, Cindy~ Can you keep your wind and not send it my way? LOL. I know we are going to get it but not yet. Another front coming in, I think. There is a bad storm west of you coming your way and then eventually over to us. I feel even colder just thinking about it.
Chunky chicken and vegetable soup for tonight. That should help keep me warm and calories is 130 per serving.
You are so very positive and I love you for it. Keep motivations flowing my way. Thanks!

Hazel, AWWW I sure wished you felt better. Just take it easy today. Drink your water and try and eat some healthy things as your tummy accepts them. I do not like this wind at all. But I'm getting accustomed to this windy Texas weather. Your soup sounds yummy! Is is homemade? If so can you share the recipe? Nope , I haven't seen Eddie. His dad said maybe Saturday. I sure hope his dad gets a full time job soon. I will have Eddie all his work hours. Thanks for the compliment Hazel. I can not put into words how proud I am of all of us and How strong we all are. I try to put it in words though. :bigsmile: oHH Greek yogurt is thick and creamy. Kinda like ice cream. I love yogurt. I eat low fat yogurt every day with lunch. Hi all OMG!!! That spinning class was wonderful!!! I am so full of energy, too bad that I’m stuck in the office and cant get out….I’ve gotten my 5 servings of veggies in this morning and had some vegetarian lentil soup it was awesome it had carrots, celery,peppers and onions…as a snack I some of the greek yougurt with bananas…so I guess ive gotten 5+ servings of fruits and veggies…
Cindy~thx hun~~you may be able to find the Blue Agave Syrup at any supermarket,...it just gives it that extra umphhh~~you should def try it…this was my first time in a very long time and I made sure to tell the instructor that and he helped me out the whole way through…I plan on taking it at least twice a week…
Hazel~~ Spinning is an aerobic exercise that takes place on aa spinning bike. As you pedal, motivating music plays and the instructor talks you through a visualization of an outdoor cycling workout: "You're going up a long hill now, you can't see the top yet.…" During the class you vary your pace -- sometimes pedaling as fast as you can, other times cranking up the tension and pedaling slowly from a standing position. This helps you to focus inwardly and work on your mind as well as your body.~~Greek yogurt is supposed to be really good for you..I usually get the plain one add the agave syrup, furit and the granola and its great, you should try it~~I am trying to battle this weight LOL…I know that if I put my mind on it I can do it…I even changed gyms so that I can take advantage of the classed and stuff, its more money but well worth it..and this gym is right by my office so I have no excuse not to go during lunch or after work when I can~~I’ve only had 5 cups of water today, I am aiming to get in all the water I need…I’ve so far had 2 20 oz bottles that just leaves another 70 oz to go~~I hope you enjoyed your nap and feel better soon.

Julie, know that you will be having company and so you will be occupied with other activities. Have a super Easter and enjoy your company. Remember drink you water and do what you can to stay on track. I know you have a strong mind so you will do just that. Have fun and enjoy DH and his family.
Yari, sounds like you are full of energy. You are doing so good and have your goals focused. That's great! Never heard of that spinners exercise. Sounds wild and fun. Where does this exercise come fun? Just for New Yorkers?
Cindy, our wind is beginning to pick up as I see the trees blowing in it. Must be you just couldn't wait to share with us. LOL. Hope it is settling some for you and you won't be getting much from this storm that is headed out eastward.
Here is that soup recipe. Sure smells delicious and I didn't add cream to it since I didn't know what kind of cream they are suggesting.
Chunky Chicken and Vegetable Soup
1 tbsp canola oil
1 boneless skinless chicken breast (4 oz), diced
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup thinly sliced celery (i cut mine in chunk)
2 green onions, sliced (didn't have any so I used regular yellow onions)
2 cans (14 1/2 oz ea) chicken broth
1 cup water
1/2 cup sliced carrots
2 tbsp cream
1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley
1/4 tsp dried thyme leaves
1/8 tsp black pepper
1. Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add chicken, cook and stir 4 to 5 minutes or until no longer pink. Add bell pepper, celery and onions. Cook and stir 7 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
2. Add broth, water, carrots, cream, parsley, thyme and black pepper. Simmer 10 minutes or until carrots are tender.
Nutrients per serving: 1/4 of total recipe
Calories: 13
Calories from fat 57%
Total fat: 8g
saturated Fat: 3g
Cholesterol:27 mg
sodium: 895 mg
Carbohydrate 5g
Fiber: 1g
Protein: 9g
Dietary Exchange: 1 Vegetable, 1 Meat, 1 Fat

Hello My Fellow HEETers!
Hazel...yes...DH and I needed to hash out some plans for upcoming family and I had a few other things to take care of but I couldn't stay away from the group!!
Here's an idea for the coming week...after Easter and all the food festivities that come with it...maybe we could each share what we are eating for a week? Noting too specific, just a quickie on breakfast, lunch and dinner each day? Just to spark some creativity amongst the group? My breakfast's are pretty Plain Jane and I'm gonna get bored real soon like I mentioned. Bebe is eating salad for breakfast. Who Da Thunk? Not me, but it's definitely something I might play around with.:bigsmile: Lucy is eating Korma for lunch. Never heard of it before but it has led me in a whole 'nother direction of foods to try or at least re-try at some point. Get my drift? Even if you just make something up on the fly, let the group know what you had so we can all expand our horizons!
As for the Meet N Greet...nothing is set in stone. If my finances don't improve I won't be able to go anywhere anyway but I'd at least like to know we have a reasonable goal in place, just in case . Not like Vegas or anything like that. So now we have a triangle of sorts. Lucy and Yari in the north, Bebe to the far east, me in the south east and Hazel and Cindy to the west. What would be a good spot?? Let's start there. If we all *were* to meet somewhere...what would be the best spot? Memphis??? That's what came to mind right on the spot. We could go get some famous Memphis Ribs...then get right back on our healthy eating! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh: Everybody think on it and lets see what we can come up with...and remember...there's always 2011!!! Let's make a plan!!
Well, that's about all I got right now...my mind is still focused on arriving company. I thought I could sit here and keep a train of thought but I'm thinking about all the things that need to get done!! :noway:

Hi Guys, Hazel thanks for the soup recipe. It sounds yummy. I did my 3 mile watp workout today and I already have 1 gallon of h2o down. I will do my 2 mile walk tonight. Today has been an ok day. I hope everyone had a great day. Did we all get some exercise in? How about water? Julie , I think it's a great idea to post what we're eating . I could always use new ideas. I think we should all decide right now that even though this is a holiday weekend we wont let ourselves get too far off track . No following bunny trails and falling completely into old eating habbits. Remember it's ok and healthy to eat in moderation foods that may not fall into what we think now as healthy foods. I myself am not going to eat anything over Easter that's not in my plan because on the 19th I turn 36 and I plan on eating a tiny piece of birthday cake and some ice cream. I can't have a birthday without at least a few bites of cake. I hope everyone has a wondeful holiday ! I'll be popping in and out the next few days . Okay, Julie .... Meeters and greeters for the HEETER group. Memphis area sounds good with me. if this is the area we all agree on, then if the group wants, I can check on some camp ground availability near Memphis. We have an RV park plan and there are some cabins we may be able to rent for less than $50 per night? Don't hold me to it yet, but just an idea and we can check on it. As we travel to Tennessee to visit my daughter, perhaps we can make a side trip to this camp ground to check out the accommodation on the lake there. That way, it might be more affordable and people with families may also want to bring their family on a summer vacation???
Soup was wonderful for tonight. Very tasty even though I didn't add the cream cause I didn't know what kind of cream that would have been. Remember, I am not knowledgeable on dairy products. But was able to use veggies that needed to be used up ... green bell pepper, celery, carrots and onions. Drinking my water and up to 7 glasses. Think I could actually do 8 glasses tonight.
Feeling better too. After my evening dosage of medication, so far so good. Hooray! Hopefully tomorrow will be fine too.

Hazel, I LOVE the way you think! A camping cabin on a lake! That's just me though. I'm kind of *rough* that way. As for "Cream", I usually substitute Fat Free milk or Half and Half depending on how thick the consistency should be. If it doesn't matter, F/F milk, if it needs to be a little creamier, Half and Half...never fails. Now I'm off......:bigsmile:0

I LOVE the idea of camping in a cabin on a lake!!! And Memphis area sounds fine with me. Hazel, you are awesome. I will pray the Lord heal you completely! What did you grow up eating? I'm interested since you've said you don't know much about dairy and don't care for pasta and such...
Cindy - Wow, 36! What kind of cake are you going to have? I'm going to follow your example and start the watp program too! Thanks.
Julie - I will try to get on my meal planning for next week. I'm trying to be more creative at least part of the time.

Julie, you are just so awesome with so many bright ideas and great for our motivations too on healthy eating. Yes, Ilike the idea of us sharing what we are eating to see if we can try new recipes. Especially me not knowing what to prepare and eat. I am feeling much better after napping for half the morning and I think too, I didn't go to bed early enough last night or early this morning. Talking on the phone with a cousin in Hawaii. LOL. But after my evening dosage of medication, I didn't get nauseated so that is good. Soup was really good and settled nicely into my tummy.
Okay, I like it that everyone likes the camping in the cabin idea. Will have to follow through on that. I'm not sure that we will be able to do this upcoming trip since we will have future son in law and his mom with us. He has to return to Dallas as he needs to work by certain time. Hmmm maybe we can take a side trip on the way over to Nashville. Just thinking about it.
Still not sure what I am fixing for Easter. Chicken w/Orange almond Sauce sounds delicious.
Yari, what is this that you did after spinners today? And wanting to learn Italian and French language, awesome! Do you speak other languages now? I have been trying to learn some Spanish and it is taking me forever. I need to take some lessons at the Senior Center. I read in their newsletter they are having some beginning Spanish lessons there. You know we have many Spanish speaking people here in Texas.
Lucy, I grew up on a sugar plantation in Hawaii. It was very country atmosphere and we lived amongst people of different countries so our food was ethnicity as we learned from one another. But, at the same time, we didn't have much and so neighbors shared what they raised, pigs, cows, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruits. We ate a lot of soup and stir fry along with rice as our staple. Milk and dairy products were all imported and it was rare that we had that at our table.
As a young adult, I moved to Honolulu for schooling and started to meet others and those that came from us continent and introduced to dairy products. It being different, it was hard for me to get used to it. I'm learning however.
Then, we moved to the Western Pacific and lived on Guam and the Island of Saipan and there we learned the local culture and they ate a lot of bbq which I love but they are not good for our healthy eating lifestyle. boo hoo. Lots of marinating in soy sauce. My body doesn't like too much sodium and I tend to swell so I am trying to stay away from that kind of food. Soy sauce was a staple seasoning for us growing up.
Talk about food .... well, growing up in Hawaii, you learn to eat and party and eat some more. When I was younger, I was very active and didn't put the weight on. But, having moved away and becoming less active but still eating well, well, you now know how I got into the position I am. LOL. Shucks!
Thank you for letting me share. I enjoy reading what you all do and your lifestyle. I can imagine Yari being so active and involved in learning there in NYC. I visited there once and boy, what a busy place that was. Yari, do you live in the city itself?
Well, actually getting in my 8 glasses of water today. Hooray! Now I can say goodnight and will see you all in the morning. or, sometime tomorrow. DH will be home on holiday.

I don't think I'll be able to get any exercise in until after 2 pm today. A little boy I watch off and on is coming for the day. It's nice because he's 8. He plays with my 10 year old daughter. Lucy, WAY TO GO! You will LOVE the WATP workouts! Let me know how it goes. I'm having a white bakery cake with buttercream icing. I told dh the smallest cake possible. I'm continuing reading that book "The Gospel of Food..." and I came across something that I wanted to share; mind you I'm only in chapter 2 so I have a ways to go, but I thot this was pretty profound...
"In an interview, Angell told me that the incessant warnings about foods may even do harm, "there is an analogy," she said, "to the story of the boy who cried wolf. If you're always ascribing things to diet and lifestyle, then when you do hear about something that's based on good evidence and really does have an effect (on our health), you've gotten cynical about it." Eggs is a good example, for years we were told that eggs are bad for us, now we know that that isn't true, they are actually very good for us, but because of all the bad "press" so to speak, over the years, people are afraid to eat them regularly, or they feel guilty when they do eat them. Or cigarettes, some people thing smoking a cigarette is better than eating a hot dog... Does that make sense?
Anyway I hope that makes sense. I'll share more as I get further along.
Hazel - Wow your life has been eventful it seems, with many experiences I haven't had. I think that is cool. I'm glad you are feeling better. Also, I believe that as we start to eat healthy, our body will heal from the years of "eating abuse" and then we won't have the same reactions to things (like soy sauce) that we might have now. I wasn't always allergic to gluten, but I'm thinking that as I get healthier and eat the way God intended, then my body will heal itself and maybe someday I will be able to eat some gluten's again...who knows?! My personal belief is that technology has changed our food, it isn't the same food God created all those years ago and that is why we have more instances of environmental and food allergies, increases in diabetes and autism. I really believe it is because our society has modified food and the consequence of this is our worsening health.
Okay enough of my rant...but 2 good books to read that talk about food fads and such are both written by Michael Pollan. They are "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "In Defense of Food, An Eater's Manifesto". They are easy reads and very interesting. They changed the way I viewed corn, that's for sure.
Cindy - I will let you know about the watp, I'm going to start today. Your cake sounds really good, maybe you could eat a small bite for me too.
My recipe for this week is an Energizing Smoothie
1 c vanilla soymilk (fat content is up to you)
3/4 c plain yogurt (fat content is up to you)
6 ozs firm silken tofu (fat content is up to you)
1/4 c dry-roasted almonds
Put all items into blender and blend until smooth. Serve cold.
What ever we decide about our meet and greet, I would really like to be geared towards everyones financial capabilities. I'm am good with roughing it. I just want to meet everyone whom I've come to enjoy and adore very much. xxoo
Yari - You are so amazing. Trying to learn 2 diff languages at once. I have trouble typing in English not just speaking in english, my native tongue!!! LOL
Anyway, got to go grocery shopping! BTW - Andy has worked 3 weeks in a row. Praise the Lord and I hope this continues!

Hi guys, How is everyone this evening? I'm super proud of myself. I babysat until 5.30 pm so I didn't get to do my 3 mile watp workout. I was sitting on my behind watching Tv around 7 pm. I thought I would just skip today. Then I decided I wanted to do it. I got up and did it! Yeaa me! I hope everyone else did something they can be proud of today too. I drank all my water today and ate all my fruits and all my veggies and stayed within my calories. I LOVE this way of life! Lucy, did you do a watp workout? If so which one? Did you like it? Good Morning HEETers!
I took the day "off" yesterday. When DH got up to go to work for a couple hours I dediced to stay in bed for a bit. Well, that bit turned out to be 12:30 in the afternoon! Then I showered, put on a clean night shirt and went back to the bed and read my book most of the day. Then DH went and got dinner (chinese :blushing: ) and we ate and I went back to bed with my book, LOL!! I did absolutely NOTHING the entire day and I LOVED it!:bigsmile: Anyway, I now have tons of stuff to do and need to go take a shower and get busy. Looks like everyone had a good day yesterday and that's AWESOME! Waving to Debbie. Thanks for the Easter wish.

Good Morning Heeters, How is everyone this morning? I just got back from the grocery store. Ughh. I hate grocery shopping! It seems like I have to go twice a week to stock up on fruits and veggies and water. At least the stores werent crowded this morning. It's overcast and dreary here today. I think we might get some rain. Julie I might follow your lead and snuggle down in bed with a good book. :bigsmile: First I have to find a place for all this water I bought. 4 -30 bottle cases and 5 gallons of water. I love sun tea! I drink my gallon of plain water every day and then I let myself enjoy 1 or 2 glasses of sun tea. Okedokie ladies, I hope everyone has a great day ! ttfn- Cindy0

Yesterday was a busy day for most of us, and I am so glad Julie, to hear that you took time out for yourself and was able to spend all day in bed reading. How awesome is that? We all need days like that, I say.
Cindy, you are so faithful to your focus of healthy eating and exercise and my hats off to you. Such determination and focus .... will you please send some of that my way? Weatherwise, you can keep all bad weather and not send any to me :-).
I was able to drink H2o yesterday, but sorry to report only 7 glasses. Like the saying goes, "almost only counts in horse shoes". Today is another day and will try harder. My schedule was off yesterday on my eating, meds and everything else. Had busy day BUT, happy to report another 1.9 lb weight loss. Hooray! Hooray! Keeping my dairy logged so that seems to be in place for my April goal. I will work harder on exercising and taking in my water. Eating more healthy too.
Have you all heard of "Flat Out bread" bought some yesterday at Costco and tried it for the first time. It is a whole grain flat bread and to my surprise it actually tasted good. Wrapped a Hebrew Kosher Beef frank in it for lunch and it was delicious. Added some cucumber to the wrap with minimal Kraft miracle whip and Grey Poupon mustard. For dinner we had left overs of chunky chicken soup and flat out wrap with Hebrew Kosher beef frank.
Today, I am planning on trying to fix mahi mahi fish encrusted in pecans. Sounds yummy eh? Veggie will be fresh asparagus stir fried in olive oil. Planning on fixing some chicken with that orange mandarin sauce for lunch tomorrow to be served with spinach. This recipe comes from my diabetic cook book so it should be good.
Now to do some actual housework .... have a fantastic day gals and remember .... water, water, water. Drink, drink, drink.0 -

Sorry I was MIA again Julie, but I've been up in Gainesville, My daughter goes to UF and developed a Staph infection in her leg... had to run her to ER and stayed up wsith her until yesterday and brought her home for Easter... I'll be taking her back Sun or Monday.
Needless to say, I haven't been eating well because of it.. Not overeating, just not eating nutritiously or getting my walks in.
I'll be back later this weekend before I head back to Gainesville.

Hi Sue. Sorry to hear about your daughter's staph infection. This is bad stuff especially if she is staying in a dorm, I have heard horror stories about this and so hard to get rid of. When we are off our regular schedule, it is hard to focus on our healthy eating lifestyle. I just want to remind you to drink your water as this will keep you going and try to make healthy choices when you can. When your schedule is back to a sense of normalacy, refocus and go from there.
