Hi Nate, Im 47 y.o. 5'4, 168 lbs. My ideal would be about 145. But even when I was that, no matter what I did, i carried a pouch in my belly. Previously working out a year ago, wasnt paying attention to my intake, thus wasnt losing. Now I am.
My questions are:
1. I love elipitcal, is there any "upper body/core" cardio I can do? I am thinking Zumba but not very coordinated. Anything else?
2. Is it true not to start strength training till some of this core fat is off?
3. Not meeting my vitamin or calorie rec intake everyday. Can you look over my food too? (Minus the wine on valentines day that is)...
hi, do chest press, assisted chinups, squats, and planks in a circuit training fashion, so maybe nonstop for 5 or 10 minutes. Please do both strength training and cardio for the best results, in that order also. Your diet looks good, just keep it as clean as possible.
Really? That was the best straight forward advice I have EVER recieved. I Nate!!!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so much!!!!0 -

with so much interest in this topic, maybe a new forum category or group could be created by any trainers using MFP to help motivate & give advice? just think that would be a more organized way of tracking advice, etc and multiple trainers would help lighten the load also (nate has 300+ friends, guy is gonna be busy lol).0

Hi Nate. Just one question for you. My current BMR is 1448 so MFP recommends 1200 (I'm only small!) I've lost 27lbs so far, over 3or 4 months so it's coming off slowly but it is coming off! I've made a deadline for May to have lost the other 20lbs.
I aim to eat 900- 1200 daily so am sometimes under my goal but it's worked so far. As well as this I try to workout for 90 mins (mainly cardio based gym classes and 2 barbell weight training classes), 5/6 days a week. I change my routine every 6 weeks. I've recently added 1 mile, 10- 12 minute jogs 2 or 3 times a week.
Over the last couple of weeks my weight loss has slowed down so I'm wondering how I can switch up my weekly routine again. I don't think I can eat any less! I had a week off uni last week so managed to do 3-6 hours a day but it's just not feasible every week!
I aim for -2lbs a week so any suggestions for how I can get back on track would be amazing0 -
I recently started running. I have degenerating disks in my neck which seem to be aggrivated by this. I also have knees that crunch when I walk up and down stairs. Is running safe for me? Is there anything I should be doing to help these issues? I don't want to stop!0

Hi I have a few questions.
One thing I'm wondering, I've lost 35 pounds, yet MFP has me eating the same amount (1200 net). How is it possible that the calories needed to lose a pound at 175lbs the same at 140lbs? It is a higher number to maintain the weight at 175 than to maintain at 140, yet to lose a pound/week at either weight its 1200 calories net. When I was in weight watchers, we had to re-evaluate every 10 pounds.
I workout up to two hours in one time (first half is usually muscle work/circuits, 2nd half cardio). As you know, protein afterwards prevents the body from burning muscle instead of fat. I always wondered if that 24g of protein shake is enough. Should I be taking something mid workout?

Hi Nate. I started lifting heavy about three weeks ago. Do I have to up my calorie intake on days I lift heavy? Right now I'm eating 1460 on days I don't work out and about half my cardio calories when I do work out but not factoring lifting.
Thanks!0 -

Hi Nate. What you are doing truly is incredible. What a great value for all of us. My question is - What is a good food to eat on days when working out? I usually have a shake for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch (usually Peanut Butter and Jelly). That makes me feel like I'm going to throw up soon after I start my work out. Burpees and squat thrust type exercises make it worse. I usually drink two bottles of water during the day on workout days. I want something that keeps me full but I don't want to be so full that I feel like I'm going to be sick. Thanks for any advice you can provide.0
