Hey, everyone, Happy Saturday,
I have been slack about posting the last while, and will likely be even busier next week with all the company coming. 2 teenage girls for a week, but we enjoy them. And the weather is lovely, warm but not over 100.
Glad to hear you got your a/c back Marie. Watch that trike, glad you didn't get hurt.
LOVE the new look, Barbie. Beautiful.
Our local fair is coming up too, Barb. The church ladies usually put on a turkey dinner with homemade everything including apple pies!! I'll have to either save up 2 days worth of food, or steer clear. Let you know if I do as well as you did. The walking part is good tho'.
Sandy, your new pup looks like he is going to be a pretty big pooch. Looks so cuddly right now.
Talk to you all soon.
love, Ellen0 -
Hi Ellen, So glad to see your posting. Been missing you. Are all the fires out yet. Getting ready for your cold winters. I will be glad. I just love Fall Weather. get to get out and wear Sweatshirsts. Thats about all we need here. and maybe a light Jacket. Have a good day and a good night too.0
-
hi all, just a quick bedtime note. barbiecat, you look wonderful, and what a pretty dress yo chose.
Marie, be careful out in that heat, I know how the colonos. testing goes, and goes, and goes.. but it is good to keep a check on all that stuff. I think mine is due next year. They put me on every three years.
I left my alli at home, purely by mistake, and gained a few pounds, purely by my own doing.. I ate ice cream and a burger once.. oooooo, bad girl!!!
anyway, we leave on Monday, so I'm going to get some sleep.
take care all of you, great to hear from you.
Beth.. be safe!!0 -
Hi everyone! We had a lovely day today. We went to a 50th wedding anniversary for our former neighbours. They have so many friends that it was a very packed room. They are both the kind of people that whomever they are talking to feels like they are the most important people there. It is a wonderful quality. They are the best neighbours we have ever had and I miss them so much. I really think they were the soul of this neighbourhood or at least the social arrangers (I don't think that is a word but you know what I mean).
Phoebe -- Glad to have a post from you, my friend. Everyone has a burger now and then, don't beat yourself up, just get on with it. Hope you get a few days at home.
Marie -- How nice that would be to wake up thinking you had to do PREP and find you have a days grace. I will be thinking about you tomorrow. Sorry the trike isn't working out so well for you. Glad the flower bed (and you) survived.
Ellen -- Maybe the teens will keep you active enough that you can enjoy a small treat at the fall fair. Be careful.
Sandy -- Your dog is so adorable. I can see where it would be easy to spoil him. Dave built our garden beds. He says we need to get a whole lot of produce to make them cost effective. I love them, the easiest way to weed a garden ever and they still make me happy when I drive up to the yard. They are really the only areas that have been consistently weeded this year. Marie tells you that I work hard in the yard, I have to be honest and tell you that this poor yard has likely not had more than 10 hours of work this summer and it really shows. The lawn looks great, we use a lawn care company but the beds --- not so great. We have quite a large yard (110' x 205') which needs daily attention.
I don't know why some of my pictures that I had on photobucket look so blurry. I just looked at them and don't get it. The family picture was taken by a photographer and the original is fine. The other picture, which is clear, is my three sons and their Grandma. Neil is the one sitting in front. That was when he had this thing about growing a mustache. Thankfully that stage has passed.
Barbie -- Gorgeous dress, gorgeous girl!! You must have felt like a million bucks.
Take care and keep smiling. Gayla0 -
Hi Gayla, I just hate it when my pictures turn out dark. And I just hate it when a movie is playing in the dark. As if they didn't want us to see what is going on. When do you normally get your first freeze? I know it is coming up Soon. Today is the day I go without eating just liquid
Phoebe, So glad to hear from you. Have you had any ill effect from The Alli? You pulled out again so soon.? Be careful and we will see you next time. take care.0 -
Happy Sunday!!
Ellen, so nice to hear from you, have a wonderful time with your family. I love when family visits which is not often enough.
Phoebe, be careful out there again, must feel good when you can stay home a few days and sleep in your own bed.
Marie, will be thinking of you today and tonight, the less you eat the better. What time is your test in the morning?
Gayla, thank you for telling us who everyone is in your pictures. Maybe when you scanned the family portrait you used use a small picture then made it bigger which enlarged the pixels. :noway: It looks like a great picture though and how nice to put a face to Neil's name. Dave must be a handy man, those garden beds are beautiful. You can tell him for me I am very impressed.
Daisy is very spoiled, she does get disciplined but she is so darn funny we spend a lot of time laughing.
Beautiful day here, windows open, sun shining, life is good.
Sandy0 -
Hi everyone! Another gorgeous sunny day. I am very frustrated. I can't get into my yahoo mail and have been corresponding with them but no results yet. I think it is their screw up but they say they can't give me a new password. I am still working on it but am so worried about losing all my contacts!!
Marie -- Hope the day is going ok. You asked about our first frost -- often some time in September we will get down to freezing but when we are very good old jack frost waits until October. We had such a cool summer that we are all hoping for a long and warm autumn.
Sandy -- Thanks for your comments about our little garden beds. I posted a better picture of them. I also posted the 'after the blizzard' pictures that Marie mentioned. In addition I posted a summer picture (very blurry) just as a comparison on the height of our deck and the amound of snow we had after the blizzard. That picture is my oldest sons wedding. I am going to try to figure out how to get it as clear as the original is so you can see the guys in their kilts.
Also -- I do have an account on Facebook and usually check it once or twice a day to see if it is my turn for scrabble. You can find me at Gayla 'Owen" Forsyth and I would be happy to be your friend. I don't play many games there, only scrabble and bejewelled. Most of my game playing is on pogo.com.
I better start getting my casserole ready for dinner. Take care and keep smiling. Gayla0 -
Hey there Gayla, Enjoy seeing your pics. Is that your Mother or Dave Mom. I know your mother passed serveral years ago.
I am in the mist of my gallon of stuff. I Drank half of it and now I have an hour before I finish the rest of it.
My belly is begining to growl So the actions may start at any time. I skipped going walking with Jerry and Sammy. And Jerry supper smells so good. He fix him a Tv dinner. I go in at 10:00 AM So it will be tomorrow afternoon before i can eat.
Just heard my bank fell But shouldn't effect me any. At least I hope so. We are having the pbls. out again tomorrow to fix another leak on the hot water heater and check our Gas lines for a leak for they smelled Gas on our Front porch. Jerry will have to take me in and come back home to be here with them and I will called him when i am ready to go home. It is just about a mile from home.0 -
Just a quick hello before I leave for the hospital. See you when I get back.0
-
Hi Marie -- Hope your day has gone well. I have been thinking about you.
In the picture you asked about is Dave's Mom. She died a few years ago.
Take care, rest this evening and have something to eat! Gayla0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: After being on my feet so much at the fair, we came home last night and took a walk. At 8:30 I fell into bed and thought I'd never move again. Of course, with all the water I drank all day, I got up a lot during the night.    I got up at 6:30 this morning and had to race around because I had someone coming to the house at 8, someone to pick up at 8:30 and dance at 9. After a good night's sleep, I feel like a new woman
:flowerforyou: Marie, I hope you're home by now having a well deserved meal. I hope all went well.
:flowerforyou: Sandy, it makes me so happy thinking about you playing with Daisy.
:flowerforyou: Gayla, hope all is well with you.
big hugs to all

Everything went well with my test. I had 3 little pollops that he remove. Says no danger of cancer and to come back in 3 years. This was really weird, I called about seeing the Dr. and the nurse just sent all my information to me and I never did have to see the doctor untill They was ready for the teat.
I got me a new food scales Eat Smart food scales and it is so smart. Of course I have not learn how to used all the features yet. But for my lunch I wanted a Ham and Cheese.I lay my bread down on the scales click a button and it went back to zero . clik the button and added 2oz of ham Kept my bread there and added 1oz of chesse..click my button and added 1 oz of shedded lettuce. Used mustard on my sandwich.
They say you can do your salad that way.
Thanks Gayla and Barbiecat for thinking about me. I was kind of scare they made find something this time. See you guys later. I made my dairy public, Thought that would help me to eat right.0 -
Great news on your test Marie. Glad that is over with and you can eat some solid food again. Your new scale sounds cool, I just don't know if I have the patience to weigh everything I eat. You
are doing a wonderful job taking care of yourself and it will pay off. Proud of you!!
Barbie, hope you didn't overdo it at the fair, you just got well you don't need a relapse. :glasses: Glad you got rest and feel like a new woman again, but still take it easy.
Gayla, your pictures are great, your house is beautiful. Exactly how many inches of snow did you get that storm? Being from Chicago we also get a lot of snow, sometimes 10 inches at a time. We are used to it though and our roads are usually prepared, unless it comes too fast. :grumble:
Today I plan on exercising and then it is my gin card day.
Have a good Tuesday.

Sounds like a great group of "Golden LADIES". I am 61 and can use some support and hope can give some support, to those in my age bracket that are commited to a journey to lose weight as well as get and stay healthy as we get older. I also want to feel energized as I have 3 grown daughters and 4 grandchildren. I also have a supportive husband which is a blessing. My mother always said that her favorite age was when she was 60! (She is now 85 and as upbeat as an 85 year old can be ).
At 60 I went on my dream vacation to Alaska, 1 week cruising and one week on a land tour! So my 60 was an awesome year!!
At this age we are still young enough to do so much as our duties, taking care of kiddies etc. start slowing down, given us more time to spread our wings! Can also be a time to start feeling old and getting lethargic! :noway: Don't want that! Love to join you gals on this journey!
What say you??
BirdieM0 -
Welcome Birdie!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
This is a great group of seniors or soon to be seniors or those that want to be seniors. We support each other so much and have become good internet friends. We have our team leaders, like Jeffrey who has lost over 80 pounds, Barbie and Jake who are the most committed to their program, Marie who is our leader and is 78 years young. We have hard workers like Phoebe, travelers like Ellen, people serving in the armed forces like Beth and Elli's son, and countless other wonderful people.
Keeping track of your daily calories watching your sugar intake and exercising will get you those results you want in no time. Patience is a virtue and with our help you can do it.
We all talk about our lives and share what we want, no obligation to do that but sometimes talking to others really helps stress.
Welcome and good luck in your journey.
Sandy0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Welcome, Birdie,
This is a great group. I found that checking in with a group helped me stay focused on my plan. My face to face friends have a very limited (almost non-existent) interest in my daily eating and exercising. The great people in the Senior Golden Sneakers have applauded my successes, encouraged me when the going got tough, and listened endlessly to recitations about what I ate and didn't eat. We all have a goal of health and we cheer for each other.:flowerforyou:
It has helped me to log my food ahead of time so I know about the calories and nutrition before I eat something. I've read a lot on MFP about nutrition and used the information to gradually improve my diet.
Just like Sandy, I try to take it one day at a time and remember that patience is important on this journey.
This site has changed my life.  I hope you find success here, as well.
:flowerforyou: Sandy, thank you for your concern about my health. After the exhausting weekend at the fair, I'm being careful. I took a nap yesterday and got to bed early last night. this morning I have a friend coming for a visit and Jake is taking the dogs to the dump and then the dog park while she is here.
hugs to all
Barbie0 -
Thanks for the welcome! I'm off and on the computer (more on than off) all day as I am the Office Manager of a Small Accounting Business. I started on the MFP Program a week ago Thurs. and lost 3 lbs. I am going to get weighed again on Thurs and hope for more good results. I agree with tracking meals before you eat them and exercising. I get on my treadmill everyday for about 30 - 45 minutes. I'm commited to 5 -6 times a week but if I aim for 7 days, I'll be sure to get the 5-6 in Because it is a sedentary job I am especially commited to the exercise. I have had a problem with my knees off and on that interrupts the treadmill schedule, but hope that by doing the treadmill I will strengthen my knees. I also take supplements (Glucosamine Chronditine? never can remember the name of it) and it has been helping.
Everyone sounds upbeat and encouraging to each other and I hope I can share some of that encouragement with you too!
:smooched:
Birdie0 -
Hi Birdie, Welcome to our group. These are the best of Seniors. You seems to be pretty active. And your mother is doing great. My mother may a trip to Alaska and Hawaia in her 80;s. But I am not that active. My health is not the best. But I am still getting around.
Again Welcome0 -
Hi everyone from sunny Saskatchewan. Now that my holidays are nearly done (1 more day) I am madly cleaning my clutter piles!!! I have so many hot spots that just pile up. Now I have made them into one pile one the dining room table so that I can sit down and sort through them. I expect most of it will go into the garbage -- not sure why I don't do that the first time I look at it.
Our day was interrupted by a call from our local First Responders. Neil wiped out on his bike and they were tentatively trying to assess him. I think it was more difficult for them because of his many idiosynchrasies. They were very afraid to move him and of course he was crying for Mom. The ambulance was on the way from the city but once they were sure there was no back injury and they turned him over it was easier to assess and we had them cancel the ambulance. He clearly didn't have a fracture although one knee was very skinned and swollen. There is road burn in a few spots and the other leg has a large bruised and swollen area on it. That is the one that concerned me the most. That is on the side that he will be having surgery on in two weeks. He twisted his glasses and has a scratch beside his eye. I think he realizes how lucky he is that he ALWAYS wears a helmet. It obviously took a bit of a hit. Once he was upright and his seat was straightened we road his bike the one block home. It did leave me a bit shaken but I didn't want him to know that. The First Responders had cleaned his wounds up but once we got home I cleaned the worst of them with peroxide and dabbed some polysporin on them. We don't need an infection! Short story made long--- sorry.
Marie -- Glad you sailed through yesterday and ended with good results. If you have sent anything to me by email, my email is not working --- grrrhhh. I have been talking to yahoo with little success. Now I have to send them more information including my picture! How would they know if it was me, seems strange, but if that is what needs to be done. . . . It does seem like a legitimate address and email.
Birdie -- A big welcome to the group. I know you will enjoy it here and be encouraged with your weight loss and exercise program. We think along the same lines for our 60th year. For my upcoming 60th year we are taking the family on a Caribbean cruise next Feb. My husband and I do plan to do the Alaska cruise within the next year or two.
Back atcha later. Keep smiling. Gayla0 -
Oh my goodness. Poor Neil must have been terrified and you too. I hope he is allright and wont be too sore . How did he crash? I don't think i want to get back on mine. It is such a heavy bike. our side street just have ditches for drainage. except Jerry fill ours in., So when I hit the flower bed it wasn't bad . The neighbors all have ditches and if I went off just 20 feet sooner I would have been in trouble. The road in front of our house do have gutters and the roads pretty nice also lot of traffic.
Birdie hope you had a lovely day. Looking to see more of you.
I got an E-mail from Beth, one that she writes to all of her family and send one to me. Said it was getting pretty chili there at night. We are getting into the 70' at night. but still get into the 90's during the day. Everythng is working fine at our house now. We did have a gas leak under our house and it is fixed now. I never did tell Alice or she would have insist we movd in with her till it ws fix. The trouble with old houses everything happens at once.

Hi all... ran my first of 3 races this morning...this one was only a 3.1 mile race I did learn NEVER run with someone who likes to walk and not run....but I had fun...lots of army airforce and Navy running together and everyone was supportive of eachother.
Gayla - poor Neil...I would have been so terrified.
Marie - its getting chilly here at night and to be honest the cooler it gets the easier this 13.1 miles will be on the 13th of Sept. So while all of you are watching late night TV you can think of me running my guts out
Birdie - welcome I am the Air Force adoptee to this thread. Hope you enjoy this site...everyone here is awesome.
Jeffery - how is the search going?
Elli - did your son come home?
All ... I hope you have a great week... mine is going well and the faster it goes by the quicker it will seem I am going to come back to the states... Afghanistan has been rather crazy lately but if you can get past the fact that people here want you dead and that there are land mines all over this country thanks to the Russians... its actually rather pretty where I am at.
Enjoy your week
Beth0 -
Boy, if you miss a day here, you miss a lot.
Thanks for sharing, Beth, good to get to know you a lttle more. May the Lord keep you safe. My son did time there too tho' in a little different way, he flies with the navy. Last year he did 6 mo. on the ground in the southern Philippines, it's an awful long time away from family.
Glad to hear the good news from your test, Marie.
Gayla, you do so well in traumatic circumstances. Hope Neil is OK.
Welcome, Birdie, to the group. You will appreciate all the support and friendship here. A very caring bunch.
Yes, Sandy, we are certainly enjoying the girls. Such fun. Taking them down ot a resort today where their aunt and uncle are. Golf, swimming, barbeque.
Your friend sounds pretty beat up, Barb. YOu are such a good friend to her, hope she appreciates it.
I'm sure I have missed some of you, but have to run before our beauties come to and get ready for the day.
Ellen
ps Forgot to mention the fires - the big one near us is out, will go down that road today, but lots of smaller ones farther away so the air is a little smokey.0 -
Oh Beth, it is hard to imagine people wanting me dead or that there are land mines all over and still having such a positive attitude as you do. You do our Country proud and I am proud to know you even though I haven't really met you. Good luck in the race and go Beth go!!! :flowerforyou:
Gayla, I agree, I would have been terrified if I got that call. Hopefully Neil didn't break anything and will not be too sore from all those bruises. Your day is a constant struggle with different aspects of your life.
You deserve that cruise and I hope you have a wonderful time.
Birdie, just take it easy on the treadmill with your knees. The treadmill is actually one of the worst forms of exercise for your knees. The constant blow is very hard on them. My doctor suggested I use an eliptical machine which is easier on the knees. I love the WII Active DVD which is all different forms of floor exercise such as squats, lunges, boxing, etc. I just don't do any running since it hurts my knees.
Sorry did mean to get on a soap box just my opinion. Make sure you keep track of your meals and exercise and eat the calories gained from exercise. Six small meals is ideal with plenty of water all day long.
Bingo tonight wish me luck.

Thanks Beth for the welcome and God Bless you for all you do for this country!
My nephew just set foot on US soil on Aug 21st and he also was in Afghanistan. He is an Air Force Pararescueman who, incidently was just crowned The Strongest Man at Bagram! We are so proud of him but cried with joy when he came home. I pray that you have a safe return, just as he did!
God Bless:smooched:0 -
Good Morning Everyone!
It has been nuts again, but it does make the time fly. I am getting a little closer to going back to work and I had a little work doing some tax nexus work. Pretty easy stuff just a little time consuming. I have been working out extra hard and I think I am going to set a new goal for 5 more pounds off. My body fat percentage is still not where I would like it to be. Everyone is well here. I have not read all the post but I will try to get caught up today or tonight. I have a couple of hours of yoga today so that will keep me busy. If I get back to work soon we are still going to go on another cruise. I think to the lower Antilles. We have been down there before but not to all of the islands. I maybe traveling soon, I hope, for a face to face interview with another firm. It looks like a great opportunity. I will keep all of you informed of the progress.
I will catch up with you all later! Have a great day and a special hello to the new folks I see!

I always thought that an eliptical machine would wear me out more but had no idea it was better on the knees! (See how much I know:embarassed: ) I do try not to run (as if I could  ) or stomp on the machine. I also have Asthma. Does an eliptical make you more out of breath then a treadmill??
Birdie0 -
Gayla, Sure hope Neil is fine today and not to sore. The poor boy. He has had his share of hard knots.
Beth so glad to hear from you. G ood luck on all your races. Be glad when you get your bu.. home. I did hear the other day that more people was killed in chicago than where you are at. So we are not reaaly safe anywhere. Such meaness going on.

Hey .Jeffrey, So glad to hear from you. I will be praying for you on your Job search. and that this one is the one. Keep us informed. So you are wanting to lose another 5 lbs. Good boy.
Phoebe, looking for you in soon.
I have made a promise that I will keep my food diary up. 'Post before I bite"
that is my new golden rule. I keep gaining not sure why .0 -

Personally, I get more out of breath on a treadmill but I think Barbie or Jeffrey could answer that question better. What do the rest of you think?0
-
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
We had a treadmill for years and gave it away about a year ago. We had a gazelle and gave that away, too. My only experience with an elliptical has been at hotel fitness centers. We have a stationery bike and we love it. In good weather we walk a lot. In the winter I do "Sweatin' to the Oldies", so I really have no answer to the question of treadmill vs elliptical.
Today so far I've burned about 300 calories with dog walking on the hill, line dance class, and walking at the dog park while the dogs run.
