Get it. If you love it, and you want it on your body, more power to you!!!!
I get compliments on my tats all the time and people said the same things before I got them done. It's just someone's opinion...and it's invalid.
This is NOTHING personal, please understand! But when you or anyone says you always get compliments on them.... random people more than likely will not come up to you saying how they really feel, they will keep their opinions to themselves.
Just keep in mind how you will feel about it when you are old and wrinkly lol0 -
I don't think so and really don't care if others think they are. Have 2 daughter's and getting one on each wrist of their names, birthdates and the chinese symbol for daughter. Good luck on yours!0

It's wise to consider how it will affect people at work. If you work in a conservative environment, you need to be careful about the image that you project.
I would suggest that you should always consider the image you project. Your style, clothes, atitude and tatoos are the image you have chosen and people will judge you based on that image.
And I would suggest, F them. Live your life the way you want. Not the way others want you to. It's your life, not theirs. And most other people are lame any damn way. Enjoy and be happy.

People are trashy, not their tattoos.0

eh, i work in an ultra conservative workplace so i know it wouldn't fly here for me..... either way, im still not a fan. i have some friends with tatts there and those aren't my favs. it's your body and your choice... i dont find them trashy or attractive - just 'meh'0
-
I also work for the local school system ( not at a school but a satellite office) and don't want it affect my job. Opinions?
I would check with you employers to see if they have any type of policy about tatoos.
And personally I would not get a tatoo. But if I were too get one, it would be someplace that I could easily cover up.0 -
In my opinion, there are 3 trashy tattoos:
1) Butterfly/flower/stars/chinese symbol on ankle
2) Tribal arm band on a guy (well more stupid than trashy)
3) Tattoo on the center of a girls back above her *kitten* (aka tramp stamp)
I would like to clarify that I'm not condemning back tattoos. A friend of mine has this wicked tattoo that covers her entire back from butt to neck. It's aso different when you have tattoos all over and you're just using the available skin. However, if you only have one tattoo on your back, putting it on the area just above your *kitten* is super trashy.
I agree! and how dumb are you gonna look in the nursing home when you are 85 and they are changing your diaper and you have this wrinkly tattoo above your wrinkly old butt?
Pretty sure, if I were 85 and getting my diaper changed I wouldn't give a *kitten* about what my "tramp stamp" looked like.
Agreed. Who gives a poo what other people think. Do what makes you happy.0 -
i agree with most people, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, and also i would say no,it isn't trashy, but people will judge you for sure. now maybe i went a bit over the top (22 tattoos so far, still getting more) but your place of employment WILL judge you. i have to wear long sleeves even on our 100+ degree days of summer to cover my tattoos and i have nothing on my arms that is considered "bad" (no foul language,nudity,ect...) i was also told i could not advance into higher management because i have so many tattoos at a place that does not approve of tattoos, i was told they would take me if i got my tattoos removed which starts out at around $50k a year more than i make now, i told them go F*** yourself just be ready to be treated like that before making your final choice, you never know what your future will hold (or in this case hold against you0

Really I think at 85 getting my diaper changed i would be beyond caring if I look dumb,in fact I dont care now. I pity people that go through life putting so much importance on what others think of them0 -
I have a tatoo on my wrist, its my only tattoo. The nice thing is if I wear a watch no one knows I have one.0
-
I have my mom's favorite flower on my wrist. She passed away when I was 13 so it has special meaning to me and I don't find them trashy at all. If you like it but your job doesn't, there are ways to cover them up.0

No Tattoo is trashy in my opinion....
But if any of the people you heard say it's trashy are people who work with you....I would really take a lot of time to consider if it's worth it...I have seen a girl really get ridiculed for a tattoo by co-workers...It really put a hit to her career....
Since you work for a school...There could be a potential in the future for you to advancce in your career...don't let a tattoo get in that way...
Girl you live in MD...you know how conservative some people can be there! uggg0 -

^^^this! LOL :laugh:0 -
I have "L'Amour" tattooed on my inner right wrist and I don't find it trashy at all...plus you can easily hide it with a watch or bracelet if a job demands it. I use it as a reminder on how much I love myself and how far I've come in life.0

I love tattoos however my job does not. We are not allowed to have any visible tattoos per company policy and you are at a risk for terminiation if you get one that is visible. You signed the policy when you were hired so you are fully aware. I do have a tattoo on my foot that is visible in the summer but I got that before the policy was made. It your tat was there before the policy you are ok. They had you "register" your tat when the policy came out so they knew who had what. Kinda ridiculous to me but its their rules and I like my job.0

My husband and I have matching wrist tattoos. We got them on our wedding anniversary a few years ago. We have the Chinese symbol for "Soul Mate". I would get them again in a heart beat and I've never had anyone say they look trashy.0

...And this.0 -
I have a tattoo on each wrist. They are the zodiac symbols for my son and daughter. My sons is colored blue aries symbol and my daughter is colored purple leo symbol. I didnt want to put their names. I cover them with my watch and bracelets at work, on the weekends I dont cover them.0
-
I've had a flower bracelet on my wrist for 16 years. I get compliments on it all the time. I would say if you are worried about what others think I would not get it. I think tattoos should be seen, well most, and they cost too much to hide from sight.0
-
I have a phoenix feather on my left wrist/forearm, and I'm planning on getting another tattoo right above it. It's not trashy! (Unless it's a trashy tattoo, haha)0
-
If you're going to be concerned with what others think, a visible tattoo, like one on your wrist, my not be a good thing for you.
I agree. I wouldn't say it's trashy, but in a professional setting, some people may make judgments about it. I'm not a big fan of tattooes that you can't hide easily (ie, neck). I have a tattoo, but it's on my shoulder blade and I would never be exposing that area at work anyway.0 -
I had a great job when I got mine, and got laid off, and got another perfectly great job after that. I wouldn't worry about it. Mine is "never again" in latin, with my starting weight in roman numerals, reminding me that I will NEVER go back there.
I love this idea...this is kind of what I want my next one to be like. I talk a lot about hope and strength so was going to get those done on my wrists in a script that can be read either way you're looking at it...but I'd like something like this also that symbolizes where I started and the fact I'll never go back.0 -

Just keep in mind how you will feel about it when you are old and wrinkly lol
And you know this because...................................
Please. Enlighten me as to how you're aware of what other people are REALLY thinking.0 -
2 of my 5 tattoos are on my wrists. Not trashy at all unless the tattoo itself is crap. The one you describe will be just fine on your wrist.0
-
I'm guessing you saw that on pinterest? Because I saw the same one there I don't think it's trashy at all.0
-

I'm not old and wrinkly yet, but I imagine I'll care even less about what other people think of my tattoos in another 40 years.
This is from my 4th birthday. My grandfather would have been in his 70s. I don't recall him ever being all, "Oh, dear...what must people think of the tattoo on my wrinkly skin." And I never thought, "Ew, why does Pop have a tattoo?! He's OLD!" It was just part of who he was.

A have a star pattern on one wrist and a song title on the other (saeglopur), they are both on my inner wrists so not visible all the time. I don't think they're "trashy" but people who think they are probably think all tattoos are trashy *shrug* It's your body and you cannot please everyone.
I have "tramps stamps" too and I am not trashy, at all. Well I don't think so.......0 -
I think all tats are ugly...I don't think ink looks good on the body, anywhere!!
And that's why you don't have any.. If you can't 'Appreciate' them.. don't get them.. but don't judge others FOR having them. And they are 'tattoos'.. not tats...0 -

I think you are missing my point. You can choose whatever image you want to project as part of your life.
If its to have tons of tatoos, dress in whatever and have an F attitude as you suggest, that is ok. But others do have the right to judge you based on the image you have chosen to project.
And this is not one sided. If you choose to dress very conserveritvely, are quiet, do not swear people will judge you a certain way also based on that image. (imagine this person applying for a job at Newbury Comics)0
