I'll just respond to everyone with this comment rather than everyone individually.
First of all, I NEVER said that I didn't understand this was about "self-control". I stated that stopping food consumption late at night because it's bad for us is a myth.
Second of all, there's no purpose trying to tell me what the purpose of this thread is, people state that it's about "self-control" but all I read is from people what time they're going to stop eating. Which I'll say again is not healthy and does not back up your thoughts on this being a "self-control" thread. Clearly there's some people who don't understand that and are "learning" that late night eating is bad for us which in fact it's the other way around.
Third of all, it's highly sad that the creator of this thread tells me that "I doubt that eating right before bed is better than leaving a couple of hours' span for the stomach to do its job." That just shows that you don't know what you're talking about, you haven't done any research on the subject, and you're spreading harmful "knowledge" to everyone who reads it and for some reason believes that you know what you're talking about.
These forums are plagued with so much misinformation and so many people giving absolute terrible advice. It's disgusting how many people on these forums probably only use this site to educate themselves on proper nutrition and fitness, so many people being fed so many lies by people who know nothing about what they're talking about...0 -

Trust me, I've educated myself on healthy eating. I joined this, and gave myself a specific time, because late at night when I'm watching t.v for bed (I'm bored) I tend to grab things out of the fridge just for the helluvit. I gave myself a specific time so that I can FORCE myself to say "It'll look bad if I let those guys down" and, of course, those extra cals would be over my daily limit and not helpful at all for weight loss.0 -

If you're late night eating put you over your calorie limit than obviously you're going to gain weight. I didn't realize I had to be so specific on this website. If your late night snack does NOT put you over your limit than you will still lose weight, regardless of what time you have the late night snack. Our bodies are about calories in and calories out, if you're in a caloric deficit than you're going to lose weight and vice versa, again the time of eating does not make a difference.

Now, I'd love to know why you want to continue to tell me that regardless of my eating time, I'll lose weight on a deficit because I don't recall asking?

This is ME all around...I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem! I do so well all day and then around 8 PM..dun dun dun.
I'm saying for myself my cut off time is 6 PM. No sooner or later. If I HAVE to have something, then some nice warm tea0 -
OMG, you wrote this for me!! This is exactly what I need right now...I do so good during the day and then BAM in an instant at night I ruin the whole thing!
I am going to limit myself to a 100 cal or less snack at 8:30ish after the kids are in bed.0 -

I have a minor in Nutritional Science and have been amateur bodybuilding for several years, I think I understand how the body works a little better than you. Also these scientific journals you get, how many of them are government funded? I bet all of them, LOL and you still believe what the government tells you... So gullible :laugh:0 -

I wish I knew what I had in the kitchen. When I need to make dinner I walk around with a :O face for at least 20 minutes trying to figure out what I have and what to make.0 -

xTwk- this may not be the right thread for you but it seems to work for us getting a handle on unhealthy eating late at night. That is all it is for. We look for and give support, not confrontation and each of us takes whatever scientific information that is shared and uses what works for them. there is no panacea for weight loss

I apologize for trying to educate people on MFP on how unhealthy not eating late at night can be on our bodies. I wasn't trying to cause a confrontation, I was trying to HELP people. I understand that people who eat at night usually binge and it results in unhealthy eating and weight gain, so I can understand this idea of not eating after a certain time. But I also understand how unhealthy and counter-intuitive that can be on the body and I was just trying to express that.0 -

cannot commit to a time as I work shifts ... on an early I can say 8pm
but on a late dont get in till 10pm and I may be hungery... dont always get a break at work so may not have eaten since 1pm so a cut off time then would be torture
so I commit to 8pm on the days when I am not doing a late but that night I will go for a half meal0 -

As for me, this challenge is keeping me honest so I don't let the floodgates open late at night with mindless snacking. Thanks for all the support here!

I've been struggling with this for my entire life. It's probably my biggest downfall. Yesterday I did two workouts, ate healthy, felt great. Then last night I decided to munch on two hot dogs. Ugh...I feel pretty terrible. But it happened. I can only improve from here.
My cutoff will be 8pm. No exceptions.0 -

My snack was over 100 calories, and about 9:00 at night, after my workout. But after my workout I had about 170 calories left for the day, so I ate a healthy snack to get me closer to my daily goal. I ended about 8 cals under my goal.
There were a few times I really wanted to snack last night, but knowing I was in this challenge kept that food out of my mouth :happy:0 -

Hello, I very rarely join board discussions, but this challenge is most definitely for me--I'm sorry I'm a week late, but I'm commited to finishing June STRONG. I sabotage myself so many nights and I need to start being accountable.
I go to bed early, so my cut off time is going to be 7 PM. And last night I did NOT snack after dinner, so I'll consider myself started as of yesterday.

I've really been making a concious effort not to snack and i'm doing it. One downfall but i wont beat myself up over it. I even had carmel on my fingers the other night when i was packing snacks and i washed it off instead of licking it! I heard the voice say "this wont hurt" then I ran to the sink!0 -

Like Lalajean, this challenge helps to keep me on track when i want to binge late int he evening for no reason in particular.....could be boredom, loneliness, pain, feeling useless or just knowing there is something yummy to eat that will put me well over my calories!!

Count me in. My cut off time will be 8. I keep trying to stick to this rule but its hard when your husband is eating chips right NEXT to you. Its going to be a hard challenge but ill keep all of you in the back of mind when i want to put my hand in that bag :-)0
