Welcome to all of the new people - we are happy to have you join us.

I have too have been enjoying getting to know everyone. It is nice to have people in my age range with my aches and pains.

My husband and I watched Purple Rain this week - Oh how I miss the 80s. I will admit the music was great and I just had to dance in the living room during the movie. We are paring down our DVD collection and this one will end up in the yard sale :grumble:

Booboogroom - its okay to have a night out and not follow your diet (aka lifestyle change). Maybe you could consider making this a zigzag calorie week - where you eat over a few days and then under a few days to shake up your metabolism. I have to look for the positive in everything. I did this last week when I had the 1/2 rack ribs and beer Thursday and then a huge hamburg and fries Friday :blushing: I ate at calorie level Sat and under (1300 instead of 1600 and no ex cal) Sun to Wed... Somehow I lost 4 pounds so it must have worked.

Enjoy your weekend. I am having company so probably wont check in again until they leave next week. I may go through MFP withdrawl
  • Booboogroom- I agree with pinbotchick. One day of indulgence is not going to undo your efforts.
Last week I overate on Sunday ( I did not even write down what I ate) and I still lost 2lb. for the week.

Have a good weekend and keep up the good work:flowerforyou:

Missou: did I read somewhere that it took you 2 months to begin losing weight, even though you were following your plan & exercising? Can you share some tips on what on earth kept you motivated during those 2 months? The last time I tried to lose weight & get into shape, I went for 3 weeks without losing, and then just gradually fizzled away - not even on purpose, but I think my subconscious was saying "Aw, to heck with it!"

I'm thinking that maybe this time around, I'm only going to weigh myself once a month, but I sure would be disappointed if I didn't see a drop in the scale at all. And yes, I know muscle weighs more than fat, the scales aren't the perfect tool to tell what's going on, etc. Yet seeing the numbers drop certainly can be motivating.

I do have to say kudos to you for sticking with it no matter what! (And where are you going for your cruise??? My last cruise was for my 40th birthday, and I'm about due for another one. Would like to shrink a little first!)

Yes LittleSister, you read correctly, I started losing weight after two months only. Prior to begin my training, my muscles were in real bad shape and my moral was even worse. When I started my program, I could feel that my body was feeling better and my outlook on life improved drasticly!! My friends on the other board did a major difference also. They kept on motivating me and on pushing me to do more.

When I started, I had a lot of difficulties to go up the stairs and after three months, I could easily go up and down my staircase 50 times in a row in about half an hour. When you consider that there are 10 steps in a row on a straight line in the staircase, that makes 1000 steps in half an hour!!!

The biggest motivation I had at that time was being able to move with such ease after so many years!!!

The other motivation I have to keep on working out are my upcoming cruises. Here is a link to both of them:

    http://www.dominiquedesgranges.cruiseshipcenters.ca/CruiseDetail.aspx-item-244543-Destination-Caribbean-CruiseLine-Princess Cruises-Ship-Sea Princess-DateFrom-Nov+1,+2009-DateTo-Nov+30,+2009-culture-enCA

The first one is to celebrate my 20th wedding anniversary and the second one will be done with my daughters and their friend.

Talk about motivations!!! My knee feels really good nowaday, but I have to remember not to over do it if I want to be in top shape for my next cruise. The ship will leave the port in 21 days only. It is not the time for me to mess with the progress that has already been done!!!

I have to take it easy even if I see that the scale does not appreciate my resting time. I gained 1.2 pounds in the last two weeks :noway: :noway: :noway: All I want to do is climb on the Gazelle. I have a lot of work to do to stop me from risking my knee...

Missou, thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my post. I can see that the difference you felt physically is what kept you going. I'm hoping for a similar transformation. I'm sick of plantar fasciitis in my feet, knees that grind and pop, panting when I climb even a small flight of stairs, and just not feeling like doing anything.

I started walking last week, but threw my back out a couple of days ago. My back is getting better, and I'm actually finding myself eager to start walking again.

I love cruises! I've been on 3 and am ready to go again. Before I took my first cruise, I turned my nose up at my mother & sister, who had invited me to go on a cruise with them. I said "I'm a real traveler, not some Love Boat cast member." They told me to stop being a snot and get out my credit card. We went to the Bahamas. A few years later, my sister and I cruised the Mediterranean, which was awesome. And then, after I was married, I told my hubby I wanted to go on a cruise with him. He turned his nose up and gave me the "I'm a real traveler" line, and I just laughed and told him to shut up and get out our credit card. *lol!*

We're thinking of taking a cruise in Feb. We're going to try something we've never done before. I'm on these mailing lists for last minute travel deals. Some of them are practically free. We booked the time off work, but aren't making plans until the week before. Worse case scenario, we can have a "stay-cation" and enjoy family time around the city.

I hav a friend whose husband promised to her that if she lost 50 pounds, he would take her on a cruise. They had been married 30 years, he never talked about her weight at all, loved her the way she was, except wanted her to be healthy. Don't know what came over him - out of the blue, he proposed this idea. She lost the weight, they took the cruise, it was great. It was as if he suddenly decided he wanted his wife to be healthy & stay around forever.

Kind of a sad twist to it - a few years later, she was diagnosed with cancer. She's doing well, and it's been about 5 years, and who knows, maybe her lifestyle change is having something to do with her success. But it's kind of interesing - it's like her husband could see into the future - life is short, health is important, etc.

:ohwell: :ohwell: :ohwell: The 6 came back today... I am at 160.4 lbs this morning :frown:

Today, I am going on the Gazelle. I tried it for 5 minutes and did a lot of work for my knee on Saturday and yesterday, my knee was not in pain. I am not saying that I will stay on the Gazelle a long time, I will stop as soon as I feel some pain in the knee. I also won't do more than 15 minutes at a time. I may do it more than once in a day though.

I also will do a new Pilates video that works the bun and thighs specificaly. I have a pair of pants that I can wear, but they are thight a little. I have 17 more days to workout before I leave for Barbados and 19 days before my cruise and they need to have a better fit.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I managed to exercise alot but went over in calories Fri and Sat - I gave up recording them yesterday. Today is another day and I am getting back on track. My company is still here but I return to work today and plan to cook a healthy dinner. I stepped on the scale this morning to see the damage and it was the same as last Thursday  I will be happy just to maintain this week.

missou - glad to hear your knee is feeling better.
  • I managed to stay within my calories on Saturday, but caved in on Sunday. I was not as brave as you pinbotchick, and opted for not stepping on the scale this morning!

    Have a great week!

    Welcome cc and tigermom!

Last night we were invited over to some friends for brownie cake topped with ice cream and hot fudge. It was so easy to decline, it didn't even sound good to me. Maybe I am starting to see a lifestyle change that I can live with forever. That was a big victory for me.

    Have a great day all!

Hey, congradulations Snowflakes, I maybe would have taken a very small piece, but definitly without the fudge on top or just take some ice cream since I love it so much. Then again, I am not really into chocolate cakes or chocolaty desserts. I prefer creamy desserts with a lot of fruits!!

Welcome to our group Tigermom and CC!! I hope you find the motivation you need with us!!! Personnally, talking about my workouts helps me to stay motivated.

I just finished my workout. I was 8.5 minutes on the Gazelle, I did 2 series of 5 ups and downs in the staircase, I did my Ab King Pro and my new buns and thighs Pilates DVD. That DVD is certainly a great workout!!! I started everything with the first serie in the stairs. Maybe that explains why my knee started to be in pain after 8.5 minutes on the Gazelle. Tomorrow, I'll start on the Gazelle, I hope I'll stay on it for at least 10 minutes. With that workout, I am sure to wear my pants on the 21st!!!

Hi everyone, I would like to join your group1 I can't belive I am an "over 40," but alas, I will be 41 at the end of this month. I still feel like a 20 year old! My husband says I have Peter Pan syndrome, I don't want to grow up. I have a darling husband and two (sometimes not so darling) stepsons aged 13 and 16. I have 2 horses, 11 chickens 2 dogs and one cat! I love running, well, am beginning to love running. I am within a couple of weeks of finishing Couch to 5K. I used to be a runner, but haven't done it in a long time. Winter is coming, although you would never know to go outside today and I am dreading the cold weather, and hoping I can continue. One of the dogs (Boxer) is my running partner. Sadly, I can't yet run far enough to tire her out, and doubt if I ever will be able to run that far!

Your last line made me chuckle, I run with my lab mix and she is so good about staying right with me, today I ran after a hour long tough upper body workout and I was not keeping a super fast past, she kept looking back at me like....uh, Mom..could you pick it up a little...and she even walked a few times...the never of her! hehe, nice to have a pal to run with, the weather was great here today also.

Hello everyone, I'm 43 and this is the last time...I am losing the fat around my body and it's never comign back, it's been a slow process...but hopefully it will stay off for good!
  • I'm with you makeitallsue! This is it for me! I am determined to get off the weight and keep it off. I have never been a runner and don't really see myself doing it. I guess maybe I should try it before I totally say no! I do like walking on my treadmill. Our Colorado winters are way too cold for me to do much outside. I am a warm weather person!

Good for you snowflakes. I'm not sure I could have passed that up. I am however a chocoholic! And the brownie with ice cream and fudge is one of my favorites! I am going to change that however!

Hi Ladies, I'm back. Sorry didn't check in over the weekend hardly. Like i said my husband was home and we spent time together. Went to eat Chinese, movies, walking, and just being together before he had to leave today. Will be 2 weeks before he's home again. Anyway thanks for the encouragement over the Chinese food. We just love it. I have cravings all the time either for salty or choc. Was at Walmart the other day and found these Luna Bars for women. OH MY have you ladies tried these yet. Only 170 Calories, 30 less than Slim fast bars, and their bigger and taste ALOT better. Yes before you ask I'm boarderline diabetic (crave sugar & water), and Bipolar (Crave salt) . I test my blood everyday, and so far it's getting better, that's why I'm hopeing by continueing to lose weight and getting back down were I should be will help that too.

Oh yea we went Yard Saleing this weekend and we found an Elliptical machine for $5.00, and it works nothing wrong with it, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!! Now I work some at home too, while I'm watching TV. I'm so excited:bigsmile:   .

    Ann,
I didn't think I would ever be able to be a runner either....as a matter of fact in April this year I couldn't even run for 1 minute, honest...I just kept telling myself that I could do it and I walked /ran, walked /ran and before I knew it I was running 1 mile, then 2. I did do a 5k in September and I ran the whole time and finished in 30:43, I was very proud of myself, and I hope to try again and beat my time, that's a slow mile....but it's all mine, I earned it!
Hey on the chocolate cravings....you can make the brownied with apple sauce in place of the oil, and a fat free fudge and some fat free yogurt icecream....I've fooled the kids with that before

Okay ladies what is your preference on THE SCALE. I have two one that is the Weight Watchers Digital, and the other is the dial. Sometimes I like the digital and sometimes the dial, then of course sometimes I don't like either. Which one do you think is more accurate, DIAL or DIGITAL?? I've noticed their is useally a 2 pound differance.:grumble:

I use a digital scale by Salter. I am quite satisfied with it.
  • makeitallsue
    makeitallsue Posts: 3,086 Member
I also like the digital, it is usually weighs me the same as the Doctors office, my dial always weighs me a couple pounds lighter....so some days I'll use it to trick myself....LOL
I'll get that brownie recipe on here sometime today, as for the hot fudge and ice cream, I usually pick those up at the store, (fat free or low fat versions..and we stick to the serving sizes) but becareful I have found that I really have to read the label because they sneak that hydrongenated oil into everything!

How do you ladies feel about that? I have found that even if it says "trans fat free", if you read the labels I have found that there is still the hydrongenated oils...it's almost in everything...except fresh of coarse, I suppose that's the whole point, our family should be eating fresh..., I just have been researching it these past months because I have found the scale not to be budging and it is in the creamer I used, the wheat bread & rolls I used to purchase, some of the waffles that I bought for the kids, cool whip....the one good thing that has happened is that the kids are reading the labels too, and I hope they are learning so they can take the knowledge with them.
Off for cardio....good luck today in what ever you do!! Debra

Hello from one Deb to another, Good luck on your journey...I'm new here too. Great job on your loss so far, has that been just from this past month? I have been at a slow loss....I have just taken off 6 pounds in the last 2 months, I have lost 32 this year but most of that came off early in the year, then about June the scale just stopped moving, even though I was running...but my clothes are fitting differently and my stomach is slowly shrinking, and I have supposedly lost 6% body fat since February, so I'm trying to hang in there, I was hoping this site could help with tracking my foods and motivation...it's tough,
    Good luck to you! Debra

    REQUESTED BROWNIE RECIPE

    BROWNIES

2 squares unsweetened chocolate ¾ cup flour
½ cup applesauce ½ teaspoon baking powder
    2 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sugar 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Do not preheat oven. Melt the chocolate and add applesauce. Beat the eggs and add sugar. Add the chocolate and applesauce, and beat. Add flour and baking powder and beat. Add vanilla and walnuts. Bake in a greased 8 “ dish.
Bake at 300* for 55 minutes

Notes* We use butter flavored cooking spray for pan.
I have also used wheat flour…I liked the taste but the kids didn’t, they said it changed the texture too much.
This was a school recipe brought home by my middle daughter and we just tweaked it a little.

I also get a lot of good recipes at discoveryhealth.com, a show on fitTv with Devon Alexander, she is always coming up with ways to cut the fat and calories out of foods, I recommend watching this show and checking out some of her recipes….I had to do this with some of my favorites that I wasn’t willing to give up.

    Have a great day! Debra
