I used to be the biggest cheese-lover in effing world, then I discovered the truth about dairy and it changed EVERYTHING!

Cow milk is meant for baby cows, just like human milk is meant for baby humans. We are the only species that drinks another animals milk. It's not normal. As far as health, the acidity of milk creates an acidic environment in the body and actually LEACHES calcium from our bones. THe milk does a body good campaign is just a marketing ploy for the dairy industry.

Not only that: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows 750 million pus cells in every liter of milk (about two pounds). In Europe, regulators allow 400 million pus cells per liter.

Since it takes 10 pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese, a pound of cheese can contain up to 7.5 billion pus cells. If your American cheese is sliced so that there are 16 slices to a pound, that single slice of American or Swiss can contain over 468 million pus cells.

Eighty percent of milk protein consists of casein, a tenacious glue. Casein is the glue that is used to hold a label to a bottle of beer. Try to scrape off one of those labels, then consider the effects of casein in your body. Casein is the glue that holds together wood in furniture.

Behold the power of glue and behold the power of horrible bowel movements. Casein is a foreign protein and your body reacts to its presence by creating an antibody. That antibody-antigen reaction creates histamines. Anti-histamines (like Benadryl) are used to counter the effects of histamines. Mucus and phlegm are produced as a result of cheese consumption.

Not to mention if you don't drink organic, you're consuming hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides.

Also there's tons of resources and sources here: http://www.notmilk.com

I've been off dairy for 9 months now... it wasn't easy since casein is an addictive opiate-like protein meant to attract babies to eat more to become big and strong... mother nature never intended for us to keep drinking it forever. After 2 weeks of withdrawals, I don't miss it at all anymore! There are SO MANY substitutes, life is good and I feel happier and healthier! :)

They are masochists leading joyless lives.

Cheese. It's good. It's also calorie dense, though, if you're counting calories, a serving is quite small. I don't see how that's bad, though. Just inconvenient at times.

    Wow! That settles it!

You might want to explore the difference between causation and correlation. Just some friendly advice.

People ate less dairy, meat and sugar, and more vegetables. It's generally accepted that rationing improved the nation's health by forcibly imposing a balanced diet.

I LOVE cheese and will never give it up! I dont care if its calorie dense, most of what we love to eat (and probably shouldnt) is calorie dense. Its about portion control. The world would be full of cranky people if we all gave up what we love. Screw that!

The saturated fat in dairy has been linked to increased risk of disease.

once again source? if you are going to quote something like this - no offense but back it up

    I didn't quote anything, I answered the OP's question.

I don't owe you or anyone a source and the tone of your reply suggests you are unwilling to listen to any opinion other than your own. Since everyone on here has Google I don't see why you can't find this stuff yourself, but here a few.

None of these sources are reliable. The Harvard article says soy is healthy. Enough said.

OMG, really you are quoting Huffington Post? You do realize they are the internet version of the National Enquirer right??? If you don't then WOW, read an article or two.

No they're not. They do have a distinctive political slant, however. Much like a certain television station I won't name for fear of my post getting deleted.

    what about wieght watcher cheese

Um... that just sounds gross, LOL
But, seriously...If they take the fat out to make it ''healthier'' then that means they replace it with something else...probably more salt and something weird that's man made.... Just eat regular cheese in moderation if your worried about the calories/fat. Or read the lable on the WW cheese...

at the end of the day, all food is made up of carbs, fat, protein etc. there is no reason why you can't fit cheese, or any other food, into a balanced diet in a reasonable amount.

If they didn't have dairy and meat then how balanced could it have been? Again, it's correlation, not causation.

My approach to cheese is to have small portions, infrequently, but when I do I make sure its super amazing quality, with red wine...

I think cheese is fine but the problem with it is more of a cultural one. Cheese has a lot of fat and calories in it (as you've pointed out). That's a problem because people don't just have a little cheese, they dump it on things: cheese fries, cheeseburgers, queso sauce, whatever... If you have like, an ounce or two of cheese you're fine (though even that is a nice bit of calories, depending on the cheese).

I would equate it with salad dressing. If you put a little salad dressing on your salad, it's fine (like 1 table spoon). But people heap that **** on there, just like people heap on the cheese. Also like salad dressing, it's generally more of an addition to a meal and not any kind of meal itself. Most things you have with cheese could easily be eaten without cheese.

    So why is cheese bad:

    1. It's not really a meal item by itself, more of an addition to another meal item.
    2. People use too much of it.
    3. It's unnecessary calories. I'd rather eat a potato or something.

If you're putting cheese on things, you better be careful to count those calories accurately. A little cheese is a ton of calories.

Hmm, perhaps the decrease in overall caloric intake could be a confounder? And there's just a few other confounders there as well . . ..

OMG have you guys ever grilled feta cheese? You wrap it in parchment paper and throw it on the grill- and it gets delicious grill marks and melts to cheesy salty perfection. Serve over a balsamic marinated grilled portabella mushroom and watch panties drop.

This is the best food idea I have read in a long time -- and I am constantly reading about food. Picking up some feta on my next Trader Joe's trip.

  • You're going to learn that there are plenty of people here who think anything besides lettuce that you personally grow in your back yard is poison that is killing you.

Ignore them. Most of them give up after 3 weeks.

Moderation. The best plan there is.

I agree moderation is the best plan!

I'm with Beezil. 50% or so of my daily nutrition comes from full fat dairy. I like it. :)
    It's healthy for me.

I've given up most cheese because "for me" it is a weakness. I used to buy a big bag of grated mozzerella (and I mean BIG) and just eat out of it for snacks, especially late night. Oh, mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn...so, for me, it was like a crack or something and I had to stop eating it. I, also, usually hold it on most meals because it adds calories and I have NONE to spare to stay under (if I'm under). LOL...I do, however, eat it if it's already on a meal or something, so I"m not opposed to it; I just feel like if I start, I might not stop.
